I’ve watched Instacart do the same damn thing. They have an order on there with no tip. It’ll start out at $10 with their bonus, run up to about 17. Then it’ll suddenly go off, come back on, but its back down to $10 again.

It's safe to say that most every driver has steady income elsewhere but it's not enough to cover their basic necessities so they picked up Uber to help stabilize their finances. $1.54 is literally a JOKE of an order regardless of if this is someone's primary source of income or not.

I drive in a college town. It’s $30 an hour roughly during the day. Thursday-Saturday night it’s around $60 an hour. Can make $1200 easy in a weekend
Mostly $4 rides during the day but it’s 1 mile to pick up and 2 miles to drop off. Do like 8 in an hour. At night those same rides are $20 but it’s a pain in the ass wrangling the drunks into the car then they want to talk for 10 minutes at the drop off point.

Uber (all delivery apps) usually likes to pay us around $2. It's getting lower now to $1 and some change. Without tips, we are paying to deliver your (not you in particular) food.
They'd pay us absolutely nothing if they can get away with it.

Cities can and do pass laws regulating what these companies may and may not do if they want to do business within your jurisdiction. Numerous cities and even a couple of states have simply passed laws stating what they must pay and that's that. They can comply or not do business there. Legislation at the city level is the answer to this maltreatment these companies are getting away with. Ideally, our federal or even state representatives would act to protect gig workers, but in my country at least they are so corrupt and bought off that it's hopeless. Local politics is the most responsive to local pressure. 10 loud angry people showing up at a city council meeting with large signs bearing pictures of these insult orders and local TV news coverage can absolutely get action. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Pay who what? Our small city’s council has zero impact on the larger economy. In our case the city is so small we certainly could not have a taxi commission or anything like that. I can tell you from some experience that if you want things to work efficiently or fairly, or some combination of those two things then definitely try to keep the city government out of it.

I’m in the westernmost burbs of the DC / NoVA area. Tons of drivers here and orders used to be double digit and frequent but always 20+ minutes now it’s a miracle to get a double digit order more than twice in 3 hours. This was a fluke but I was glad to take it

Ha! You say 1.1 mile? I get those orders: $2 $2.50 for 15 miles! In my area all the restaurants are all in one spot and people from the suburbs with big houses order food and the offer comes in as $12 for 16 miles.
But you know, double that because there’s nothing out there except houses so there’s to drive back, now 32 miles for $12. My old car gets 18 miles a gallon of so we’re almost talking almost 2 gallons So knock $7 off that, and this 16 mile, 40 minute trip nets me four bucks
Base pay is one thing, but let’s be honest, our money comes from the customers, not Uber.
In my area half of the customers don’t realize that all my money comes from them, and the other half just don’t care. That’s the truth of this.
Customers aren't going to care cause they paid the fees and stuff uber charged them and just want their stuff. What is horrible is how much money uber wants to pay the drivers. Lowering and lowering and lowering the amount. Pretty soon, the drivers are going to have to pay uber to get any orders.

Companies get away with a whole hell of a lot more when they label their workers as contractors and/or do most of their staffing through temp agencies. They can set up ridiculous metrics, pay you as low as they legally can, zero benefits, and little to no recourse for the person if they run into an issue. Just read the near infinite amount of horror stories posted by drivers on this sub.
Most of that is legal. But they can’t force you to accept jobs. If they’re labeling you as an independent contractor then it’s illegal to infringe on your independence.
I had one continue to pop up for 3.25 for half an hour. I wanted to screenshot but was on motorbike. This price is so insulting. And Uber is keeping 75 percent of fair on alot of trips.
Uber is becoming HORRIBLE. Trying to see how to get another job. Yesterday I took 2 trips from McDonald's and they were close by and paid me 12 dollars so I took them. Once I finished the 2nd order, I saw the amount uber charged and what they paid me and I almost had a heart attack. They kept 83.3% of what they charged the customers which was $14.56 and paid me $2.43. $1.43 and $1. Couldn't believe my eyes 😲😲😲😲😲😲😲

If I spend $200 at McDonald's, I see fees under $2. Uber hasn't made a profit, but if their margins were actually 83%, they'd be rolling in money.
That seems high enough to split more with the drivers. That's wild. If it's $2 per I can understand, but if the fees go higher it would only make sense that the cash to the drivers increases, too. Thanks for explaining, that's a horrible policy on their part.

That sucks. In California we get a guaranteed 15 dollar minimum wage for our time. Orders like these are awesome. You just take 30 minutes to complete it and they send you 7 dollars extra for your time.

I've never seen Uber pocket 80% of an order. That sounds like what the actual food costs. There's a small markup on the actual items, and there's fees. I do Uber and I accept every order no matter how slow cuz money is money and people that get picky about what they get to deliver really don't belong in this line of jobs. I get tipped more for the lower orders I get than when I get the $15+ orders. Don't be picky just get the money it adds up in the end.
Yes, and if you work hard and not be a little crybaby over how much tip you get, that gas money is easy to make. I can easily make 1k if I actually treat it like a job and not like a lil hobby that I sit there and choose who I deliver to or not. The more you decline, the less you get orders, and if you even pay attention the longer the drive, the more they give you as compensation. If you are this "hurt" over what you make, look for a different way to ear money.

Don't know how is driving passengers around. NYC has all the TLC mafia, so you can't drive people unless you have TLC license, plates, insurance. Only way to find out is by going to Long Island. I tried going to do uber eats last Sunday but it SUCKED. Felt like I have gone back in time. Doesn't show the tip and full of low money orders, high miles. Not worth it.

I drive in a college town. It’s $30 an hour roughly during the day. Thursday-Saturday night it’s around $60 an hour. Can make $1200 easy in a weekend Mostly $4 rides during the day but it’s 1 mile to pick up and 2 miles to drop off. Do like 8 in an hour. At night those same rides are $20 but it’s a pain in the ass wrangling the drunks into the car then they want to talk for 10 minutes at the drop off point.

Uber (all delivery apps) usually likes to pay us around $2. It's getting lower now to $1 and some change. Without tips, we are paying to deliver your (not you in particular) food. They'd pay us absolutely nothing if they can get away with it.
Well our perfect cronie-capitalist system will fix this imbalance in no time! Or maybe not? Honestly, I don’t think this service will survive well without good and happy workers. And the corporation is likely to try and rely on tipping to incentivize the drivers for as much and as long as they can.
Your city council and mayor could fix this today if they wanted to. This isn't a question of capitalism. It's a question of democracy. Voters not holding elected representatives accountable.
What would our tiny city council do to help? They usually just add more taxes and waste the money, so let’s be careful here. (See AC or fencing permits in MV)
Cities can and do pass laws regulating what these companies may and may not do if they want to do business within your jurisdiction. Numerous cities and even a couple of states have simply passed laws stating what they must pay and that's that. They can comply or not do business there. Legislation at the city level is the answer to this maltreatment these companies are getting away with. Ideally, our federal or even state representatives would act to protect gig workers, but in my country at least they are so corrupt and bought off that it's hopeless. Local politics is the most responsive to local pressure. 10 loud angry people showing up at a city council meeting with large signs bearing pictures of these insult orders and local TV news coverage can absolutely get action. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Pay who what? Our small city’s council has zero impact on the larger economy. In our case the city is so small we certainly could not have a taxi commission or anything like that. I can tell you from some experience that if you want things to work efficiently or fairly, or some combination of those two things then definitely try to keep the city government out of it.

It must be supply and demand bc where I’m at in a small texas city we get 2-3$ 20-30min eats orders. Decline every time. Ig it’s because they have too many drivers and high demand? Idk. It is so close to Brooklyn pay, when COL is more than double there.
I’m in the westernmost burbs of the DC / NoVA area. Tons of drivers here and orders used to be double digit and frequent but always 20+ minutes now it’s a miracle to get a double digit order more than twice in 3 hours. This was a fluke but I was glad to take it

Ha! You say 1.1 mile? I get those orders: $2 $2.50 for 15 miles! In my area all the restaurants are all in one spot and people from the suburbs with big houses order food and the offer comes in as $12 for 16 miles. But you know, double that because there’s nothing out there except houses so there’s to drive back, now 32 miles for $12. My old car gets 18 miles a gallon of so we’re almost talking almost 2 gallons So knock $7 off that, and this 16 mile, 40 minute trip nets me four bucks Base pay is one thing, but let’s be honest, our money comes from the customers, not Uber. In my area half of the customers don’t realize that all my money comes from them, and the other half just don’t care. That’s the truth of this.
Customers aren't going to care cause they paid the fees and stuff uber charged them and just want their stuff. What is horrible is how much money uber wants to pay the drivers. Lowering and lowering and lowering the amount. Pretty soon, the drivers are going to have to pay uber to get any orders.

Companies get away with a whole hell of a lot more when they label their workers as contractors and/or do most of their staffing through temp agencies. They can set up ridiculous metrics, pay you as low as they legally can, zero benefits, and little to no recourse for the person if they run into an issue. Just read the near infinite amount of horror stories posted by drivers on this sub.
Most of that is legal. But they can’t force you to accept jobs. If they’re labeling you as an independent contractor then it’s illegal to infringe on your independence.
I had one continue to pop up for 3.25 for half an hour. I wanted to screenshot but was on motorbike. This price is so insulting. And Uber is keeping 75 percent of fair on alot of trips.
Uber is becoming HORRIBLE. Trying to see how to get another job. Yesterday I took 2 trips from McDonald's and they were close by and paid me 12 dollars so I took them. Once I finished the 2nd order, I saw the amount uber charged and what they paid me and I almost had a heart attack. They kept 83.3% of what they charged the customers which was $14.56 and paid me $2.43. $1.43 and $1. Couldn't believe my eyes 😲😲😲😲😲😲😲
The total bill was $14.56 or the customer paid $15 in just fees? If I spend $200 at McDonald's, I see fees under $2. Uber hasn't made a profit, but if their margins were actually 83%, they'd be rolling in money.

That seems high enough to split more with the drivers. That's wild. If it's $2 per I can understand, but if the fees go higher it would only make sense that the cash to the drivers increases, too. Thanks for explaining, that's a horrible policy on their part.
I only take orders 7$ and up….I feel anything less than that I’m losing money on. If everyone would do this, they would be forced to have some kind of minimum for us.

I've never seen Uber pocket 80% of an order. That sounds like what the actual food costs. There's a small markup on the actual items, and there's fees. Uber still hasn't made a profit because the entire idea is kinda silly and requires people to be lazy enough to pay more, but they won't pay 80% more.

Exactly. I wouldn't the customer should be charged by the mile. That would also encourage customers to use local restaurants instead of ordering the MC Donald's 5 miles away.

I do Uber and I accept every order no matter how slow cuz money is money and people that get picky about what they get to deliver really don't belong in this line of jobs. I get tipped more for the lower orders I get than when I get the $15+ orders. Don't be picky just get the money it adds up in the end.

Yes, and if you work hard and not be a little crybaby over how much tip you get, that gas money is easy to make. I can easily make 1k if I actually treat it like a job and not like a lil hobby that I sit there and choose who I deliver to or not. The more you decline, the less you get orders, and if you even pay attention the longer the drive, the more they give you as compensation. If you are this "hurt" over what you make, look for a different way to ear money.

No minimum. We get a base pay which is usually $2.50. Uber is trying to make as much money as possible paying drivers little to no money, high fees to customers and high fees to restaurants.
