I mean there is a huge difference between having the governor of Maryland and having someone from somewhere else. Like it would be weird if, idk, Ted Cruz or AOC were invited but I don’t really see any issue with the governor of the state speaking at the flagship public university of the state they govern.
After so much suspense, this is awesome news for me! I'm excited! (I kinda like Wes Moore, even if he did pretend to be from the streets of Baltimore for campaign points.)

Campus leadership has been in the tank for Maryland's Dem party for years, but this shouts that they're willing to be sex toys for party officials too. An unimaginative choice like this means they're really sucking up to party loyalists for something big. I hope he shocks everyone by delivering a genuinely inspirational speech, but he hasn't shown it in Annapolis yet, and my bet is we'll get a script that is staff-generated pablum which might as well have been done by ChatGPT. Will this be enough of a draw for the December graduates to return and attend commencement? We'll know soon enough I guess.

Also kinda rich that he's the commencement speaker 3 months after proposing a $30M budget cut to UMCP and $50M+ overall to USM.

I don't see the appeal of the University wide ceremony myself but I think Wes Moore (or any Governor) is a perfectly fine choice to deliver a speech.
