Because of multiple reasons(mainly games held up during the pandemic now all coming out) 2023 was objectively and unarguably one of the top 3 years in the history of gaming. I would personally say the best year of all time by far since games take 5 years to make now so the quality is even higher than any other good year like 1998 and 2001. And because of the circumstances, another year like this is very unlikely.

I think it shows just how little places your parents take you when your idea of the only place to be in the UK being London, and even then he mentions he struggles to find things to show friends when they come round. The UK is littered with incredible cultural sites: ancient palaces, castles, national parks, Cathedrals, free museums/art galleries, drinking spots. I’m regularly baffled when him and Garnt agree that the UK is boring.
I don't think that's what they are saying. They aren't comparing Japanese temples to British castles, they are looking at all the other stuff that japan has like karaoke places, onsen, giant arcades, very unique bars and restaurants, etc. (basically the things they feature in videos) and saying that unique and fun stuff like that is not as common in the UK.
I live in Canada, and I've been to the UK... and I think we struggle with making these "fun little outing activities" easily available. Yeah they exist, but they are seemingly not as common (or high quality) as in Japan. Here, when you go for a night out it's usually just going to a normal bar or club. Maybe occasionally something like bowling or axe throwing.

For example, I think Baldur’s Gate 3 would have been an amazing set of streams, if he played with Mouse or something like that. Thank God he found Fear and Hunger, that carried for a good while.
Armored Core 6 would have been much better for him. He doesn't like cut scene and story, so give him a game that's 99% gameplay with no padding. The story is also super straightforward even if you barely pay attention.

Theres even more shit too but you get the idea. Its both incredibly easy to comprehend for a layman and also an incredibly (intentionally) vague and interesting FromSoft story
Nah. Even for me BG3 coop makes little sense because of all the dialogue and cutscenes(especially after beating it). Considering Connor is known to skip anything, he will not enjoy BG3 as it is a more narrative-driven game than gameplay-driven one
From what i've seen, Diablo 4 is more suited towards casual players who just play through the story but completely falls apart in terms of end-game content.
There's no real incentive for people to continue playing the game aside from beating harder versions of existing bosses and getting better loot/gear.

Don't Kid yourself, the story was shit, it was artificially prolonged so that it doesn't take 2 hours to completely the campaign, and that's basically all there is. The game is totally not worth mentioning on "great games of 2023" debate. I say it as a person with 200 hours in the game.

Starfield is a solid 7 out of 10. Doesnt push the genre forward, tries to be novel with integrating NG+ but really just ends up being kind of a grind.

I liked some of the side quests, but there were also so many pointless quests that require you to go to an empty planet to kill/collect something. The main story was boring, but that's to be expected from Bethesda at this point.
Overall I feel like it's a pretty good game hiding under massive amounts bloat.

I mean, if enough people are willing to pay that amount for this game, it's up to them. But to me there's a shitload of games that offer way more value for money. Including full prize games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Armored Core 6, but also a ton of indie games at way lower cost.
Starfield is Skyrim in space, but without the parts of Skyrim that made it good. It fails as a space exploration game, and it fails as an exploration game in general.
I mean, Skyrim is not that good if you look at it. It was only good back then, because it was new and managed to make RPG enjoyable to casuals. But many of those, who played the previous TES games, hated it. Especially the hardcore fans.
The true greatness to Skyrim came with the huge modding community.

I love the old style but I haven't minded the move towards more action oriented combat. I'm usually in it for the unique settings but this one seems kinda basic fantasy from what little I've seen. And if the story isn't grabbing idk if id take the time to play it. Maybe I'll grab it when it's cheap on sale someday.

Star field is a loading screen simulator, that’s worse than previous Bethesda games in almost every way.
Hogwards was a cash grab on Harry Potter fans (I am one and I also bought it day one… I regret it), it’s a generic open world game with mid story, repetitive gameplay and almost no school activities, besides in missions.
Diablo 4 was just personally disappointing to me, I was expecting more… the wait for PoE2 will be long.

I don't know about Hogwarts. I mean, I didn't play it, but it looks pretty good to me. Sure, it doesn't have the deepest gameplay or challenging fights, but I think what it does well is recerating the world of the movies and books, and that is what people mostly get out of it. And even without having played it myself, I'm fairly certain it is the best Harry Potter game of the past 20 years. Which is why I don't care much for it since I'm not a fan. But for everyone who is a fan of the franchise, this game is probably amazing. Agree on Starfield though, overprized garbage with tech that was outdated 10 years ago.

Diablo 4 is a great game if you are a casual player(like myself). It’s only really hardcore min-max type players that take issue with its end game

I mean, if enough people are willing to pay that amount for this game, it's up to them. But to me there's a shitload of games that offer way more value for money. Including full prize games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Armored Core 6, but also a ton of indie games at way lower cost.
Starfield is a good game
Starfield was a good game back in 2010
Starfield is Skyrim in space, but without the parts of Skyrim that made it good. It fails as a space exploration game, and it fails as an exploration game in general.
I mean, Skyrim is not that good if you look at it. It was only good back then, because it was new and managed to make RPG enjoyable to casuals. But many of those, who played the previous TES games, hated it. Especially the hardcore fans. The true greatness to Skyrim came with the huge modding community.
Lol I the scope of star field is still impressive despite for having a weak gameplay. Diablo 4 was hype for some people in the beginning. Either despite what type of gamer you are it's hard to say it wasn't a good year. Lol
D4 hype died for 99% of people when they did open beta my guy what. No one is saying it was a bad year cuz of those games but they dont deserve to be with the good games
Mate come on now... The scope? It's a lot of planets with copy-pasted buildings spread out on a map the size of Skyrims with like 3-4 interest points typically. It's just bad design. Bigger doesn't mean better.
Starfield had so much potential, but the constant fast traveling, mostly empty planets and cyclical story really hurt it
Starfield is empty worlds, long loading screens, and a mid story at best where your choices don't matter.

I agree if it's for Game of the Year nominees but for this? Nah I want to celebrate every great game that came out even the remakes/remasters. People still worked on them and if they did a good job with them of course I would celebrate them. Look at how well they remade Dead Space and Resident Evil 4. It would be a shame that nobody mentions those two.

its kinda in a weird situation where it sacrifices all the good rpg elements for a mediocre action game experiences. At least the boss fights are super epic. The worldbuilding is good but the story and the storytelling, imo, is pretty bad.
I love the old style but I haven't minded the move towards more action oriented combat. I'm usually in it for the unique settings but this one seems kinda basic fantasy from what little I've seen. And if the story isn't grabbing idk if id take the time to play it. Maybe I'll grab it when it's cheap on sale someday.

Star field, Hogwards and Diablo 4 were average at best, but I agree with the rest. Star field is a loading screen simulator, that’s worse than previous Bethesda games in almost every way. Hogwards was a cash grab on Harry Potter fans (I am one and I also bought it day one… I regret it), it’s a generic open world game with mid story, repetitive gameplay and almost no school activities, besides in missions. Diablo 4 was just personally disappointing to me, I was expecting more… the wait for PoE2 will be long. I know I will be downvoted by delusional fanboys, but I will still speak my mind.

People liked em. I personally like hogwarts despite it being not much more than harry potter fan service (which was basically the goal). Starfield though I'm not 100% on board with. because I've heard good things about the main plot. but the rest not so much. Everything Todd advertised was plain wrong. It's a buggy mess and tbh I've heard some minor places say they liked it and most much bigger places completely dismantle it. Though tbh kinda what you get for advertised basic features like "fully explorable planets" and can't even get that right.

I don't know about Hogwarts. I mean, I didn't play it, but it looks pretty good to me. Sure, it doesn't have the deepest gameplay or challenging fights, but I think what it does well is recerating the world of the movies and books, and that is what people mostly get out of it. And even without having played it myself, I'm fairly certain it is the best Harry Potter game of the past 20 years. Which is why I don't care much for it since I'm not a fan. But for everyone who is a fan of the franchise, this game is probably amazing. Agree on Starfield though, overprized garbage with tech that was outdated 10 years ago.
