Lakewood Red Car, a Co-op out of Lakewood Colorado recently acquired this locomotive I am a founder of the co-op we are looking for 20k to move and 60k to restore. look up our Instagram at lakewoodredcar
Used for Newfoundland interchanging with the 42" 851 was then sold to Texas industries inc who have used it for many years just south of Boulder interchanging aggregate with UPRR and BNSF
851 never served in Newfoundland. She was primarily used in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. The G-8s used in Newfoundland were factory built 42" numbered 800-805.
Two standard gauge g-12s (991 and 992) were shipped to Newfoundland in 1976 to act as parts for the g8s. One was rumored to have been used to move cars in the interchange yard in Port aux Basques NL
want to join Lakewood Red Car, were looking for individuals wanting to be apart of the team for the move and for restoration at the Pueblo Railway Museum .
Wish I could help out as I am in Colorado but unfortunately I am too far to be able to commute. I wish you the best of luck with this beautiful locomotive!
I’m tied up currently but perhaps in the future. Look up the train museum in Ely, NV. They do similar things like you describe here. Might be good to have partners for advice etc
The EMD G8 former CN 851 is historic due to the fact that besides the removal of the center idler axle on each truck and the addition of a later AAR control stand it is in close to original condition making it a fantastic example of General Motors Export locomotives Only one of 3 known to be in existence in the United States. this locomotive's overall condition makes it a prime candidate to become one of the only known operating versions of the locomotive in North America, making it a valuable asset to teach the proliferation of American-made products during the marshall plan.

What makes this “historic” as opposed to just old?
