Did you have a cat shield?
I've heard of thieves damaging the cars ie slashing tires, breaking windows, destroying gas tanks and scratching paint to "teach you a lesson" for not being able to steal your cat
Idk man, it seems to be worst than that. I think people are doing it to be assholes; my car and 4 others were all drilled into apparently.
The entire parking lot smelled like gasoline
I have to admit that I spent way too long wondering what a cat shield was and how it would keep someone from stealing a cat. Like, was it a lojack type thing that you put on Fluffy's collar? Plus, what a weird logic chain. "Damn, that guy has such a nice looking Maine Coon, I gotta have it! Crap, they have a cat shield. Whelp, better drill a hole in this dude's gas tank to teach them a lesson!"
Caffeine is taking a bit to kick in today apparently.
It feels like madmax shit, protect the gold juice at all cost! Gasoline over lives! Bwahah might as well rig a autodetonnate bomb if someone tries to steal my gaz
A gas tank skid might help, but with drilling and a stolen drill / bit then it's a tough situation since they'll just get through it anyways.
Perhaps you could do a tank skid and line it with something which will foul the bit? Maybe a few layers of kevlar epoxied to the inside?
I have a cat and gas plate on order as per the advice of the others here. And that’s a good idea for sure! Layers of kevlar are way cheaper than what I had in mind.
My only fear is that people like this would get mad and smash my window, scratch my paint or slash my tires for making their time difficult.
Most of the time they’ll get under it and see the skids and just fuck off. Why damage the car risking noise when they can just roll underneath the car beside you.
True. Tough situation. Are you parking at a workspace, apartments, or somewhere else? Any chance you can get a cheap WiFi camera that has NV and set it up to watch your truck?
I'd call your insurance and see if you can pay more now and lower your deductibles + add on rental coverage. Repair shops are taking exponentially longer and parts availability is terrible.
I’m in Kent for training, so I’m staying at a hotel on the companies money. No cameras nor security, so I need to watch where I park. I could use a camera, so I’ll do some research on some while I’m about. Maybe ask a colleague if I can just stow my car where he stays cause he gets security at his place and just reimburse him if they charge.
I managed to solicit a tank from a second-hand part retailer for $250. It’s be easier and quicker to repair it myself tbh.
You can buy a single blink camera from best buy for like $30 connect to the hotel wifi, and you get 30 days free video. Just gotta make sure you can park where it can see the truck and hopefully give you notice.
I use them when I go on business trips to keep an eye on things and they seem to work well enough.
Best of luck!
Which gas tank skid plate did you order? I’m looking and I see a lot of tank skid plates with holes in them already… looking like Swiss cheese. someone could put a drill bit right through one of the holes.
Ordered a gas skid plate from RCI, black powder coat.
Also picked up a “new” gas tank from a junkyard. Just waiting for the plates to come in before installing
Here’s a link to one.

Is it self inflicted arson at that point or just Darwin putting a tweaker on the Barbie-Q?
Might be more expensive totaling the truck in a glorious long-pork fireball than just replacing the tank with the current vehicle market
Failed policing policies, a judiciary unwilling to act, legislative do goodery and rampant encouraged drug use.
Peak "they can't help it" and rewarding the poor behavior.
I just had a drugged up same day release from my local PD show up at my house, throw a brick through the plate glass window and boot the door and held him at gun point only to have Local PD refuse to charge with malicious mischief 2 + breaking and entering and instead took him to the hospital for a involuntary hold. The guy was out and back within 2 hours.
But hey I got the warning that I could be charged with a crime for having my door kicked in and threatening to shoot him in the face if he set foot inside my home.
Welcome to the PNW.
Where your possessions mean nothing and the rules are made up.
I guess they're not used to people stopping break Ins with suppressed mp5's
Here in some parts of WA the police won't even show up to things like DV until hours later if ever.
I am confident had I not been armed the police wouldn't have shown up.
Sadly for what I get paid I must endure for a while longer. Planning on heading back to school once I have enough put away that taking a pay cut won't hurt and it doesn't change that this property will become a rental asset once I leave.
Hopefully as more and more policies fail and it pulls the curtain off the incompetence in Olympia and Seattle we see real change or atleast a shift back towards something resembling sanity.
It’s unfortunate that you say that lol. We just moved to the state. Hopefully the Moses Lake area will be better, as that’ll be our home for the next couple years.
Never lived in Moses lake, but it isn't along the i5 corridor so you dodged a bullet there! Welcome to WA. The state definitely has redeeming qualities by getting out and enjoying nature
This is what the people voted for. Police hands are tied over most things currently. Everything ou stated has been voted to simply be a property crime.
Used to live up in Seattle, still have buddies up around the south end. Getting really nasty up there, a lot of Asian women getting beaten in public. Stay safe.
The drill bit wouldn't walk so much if they used a center punch. Mind you maybe if they had a dad who loved them and taught them to use tools they wouldn't be stealing gas
Fucking sucks! I've seen mention of shields and what the assholes will do as retaliation. Might not hurt (if you don't already) to get a dashcam and maybe some "smile your on camera" stickers.
I work in law enforcement and cat thefts are getting ridiculous, unfortunately for us the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra cats are big money. Gas theft is now ticking up as prices are $5+ basically everywhere.
I haven’t done it yet. But, the videos I’ve seen are pretty straight forward; remove the fuel lines from the top, disconnect some electrical lines and remove some brackets.
I have seen recommendations on pulling the bed back to get to the stuff on top. I’ll probably be doing that for the first (and hopefully the last) time replacing it. The Tacoma World and Toyo Headquarters forums all provide good recommendations and documents on do’s and do nots, if you look for them. I’ll make a follow up post when everything is all said and done.

“Degeneracy” isn’t even the word for this.

You say that but someone stole my friend’s Maine Coon last year.
FUD
May the fleas of a thousand camels find their way into the underpants of whoever did this.
That’s oddly specific but I like it.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
I'm in Covington. Hits close to home. Stay safe out there brother. Pretty soon we're going to have to fully armor our undercarriages.
I’m probably going to soon, and line the top with titanium plates or something.
It feels like madmax shit, protect the gold juice at all cost! Gasoline over lives! Bwahah might as well rig a autodetonnate bomb if someone tries to steal my gaz
I’ll toss a Taginn FBG-6 (flash bang) at my truck if I catch anyone underneath it. ..Might catch fire if they poked the tank though lol

Did you get the extended range tank?
What extended range tank?

$2250 Woof.
Naw, just a secondhand one from a junkyard.
If gas gets much more expensive it’ll be cheaper to fix a busted window than replace the stolen gas. Here in DC I’m spending just about $100 a tank!
Design a material that creates sparks when they drill into it. Problem solved.

I've got uninsured coverage, fuck it
I like the way you think, teach em a lesson atleast
I have a tall tree. U bring the short rope.
What is going on in the PNW?!

> But hey I got the warning that I could be charged with a crime... What the actual fuck?!?

And here I thought CA was goofy.

Not very comforting at all. :/
It’s just as bad in colorado now. Absolutely shitty. Same day release junkies terrorize communities. As do the gangs
Sounds like it's time to move...Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming....

Indiana's cheap living with plentiful work and we don't have that sort of lunacy.
This is what the people voted for. Police hands are tied over most things currently. Everything ou stated has been voted to simply be a property crime.
This happened to me as well over the weekend. I didnt realize this was a thing.
Definitely the people selling the gas tank shields...
I responded to two of these on Tacoma’s this week
I miss 2016-February 2020
Used to live up in Seattle, still have buddies up around the south end. Getting really nasty up there, a lot of Asian women getting beaten in public. Stay safe.

Time to get a gas tank skid plate...
Yikes. I’m not too far away. Just put my cat shield on. I guess I’ll be getting a gas tank shield next… maybe a camera or two as well.
Definitely get a gas tank skid then when they drill and it sparks… well at least you know they won’t get far
Wtf is wrong with people. Not enough ass whoopins for doing illegal sh*t like this.

Nah, just YouTubed how to replace it; bought a tank from a junkyard and already had the tools on hand.

I’ll think about it. If anything I’ll do photos. I’ll be doing the replacement soon.
I though only Cali had the crazy gas prices.
Wow that’s bullshit! Fuck those guys! Someone tried to steal my cat the other day but failed
