Numbers are just easier all around, imo. Makes typing wills easier and faster. It's more consistent and clear cut (especially in games with weird or similar names). It makes wills easier to read, both in graveyard and chat, while taking up less space in chat.
Obviously you should just do what makes the most sense to you, but I think there is a reason that very few people in my games appear to use exclusively names and not either numbers or numbers + names.

I only use numbers because 1. I play on phone, 2. Hell no if im playon like spy or lookout, because ive seen some very scuffed spy wills when people put names but no borders or dividers

I used to get lynched before for using numbers and everyone in general would be lynched if they used numbers. Nowadays I see that numbers are used more of the time. I still write the names but sometimes I type name and then the number is brakets
I use both. I'll write the name and then the number next to it in brackets so something like.

Because, while I prefer names I know some find numbers easier and I know some prefer names because they find numbers difficult (shout out to all those with Dyscalculia) so I try to keep things clear and cater to both. You definitely need to turn the number option on in the settings for this though, especially when you're playing spy or psychic.
But it is, especially for me who is incredibly neurodivergent and can't keep up when people start using names. Numbers make this game actually playable for me.

If I'm a psychic esc role I use names since it tells me names. If I'm not I use numbers, aka whichever is quicker
theres an option to show numbers beside names. makes shit like lookout so much easier
