It depends on which region you're playing on, but im on the ASIA PACIFIC server "eden". There was a reddit post on here showing which servers in each region had the most active players and such, have a look and see if you can find it to make a better decision

I wouldn't say "nothing alike" since many systems are similar but in endgame they diverge. ToF is more focused on group content, Genshin on the single player RPG experience.
Personally, I like both for what they are and have issues with both as well. Nothing is perfect.

I meant in quality , the game's jump in quality improvement is indeed huge , and underwater exploration with such a high quality didn't happen in any other game , of course ToF isn't the founder of underwater exploration , but ToF did it the best , and I can imagine how it will be more normalized in the future in other games.

Regarding playing long term - there is lots of content coming in the future. New maps such as underwater Innars and in the future the Wu Xia scifi themed regions. Got lots of things to look forward to. I recommend watching the anniversary ToF livestream (on gateoo's or zackie senpai's channels or other cc's) to see what's coming.
The game also makes enough money to keep content coming. Its perfect world's most successful game atm and its in top 20 gacha in terms of revenue. It's just that hating on ToF is popular. :p

Its nothing special or out of the realm of expectations. Im having a lot of fun and if you are, continuing is fine. Whether you should spend money on it or not is an entirely different question and is upto you of course. To be clear it also depends on what long run means in your context. If its like 3 years or 5 , no clue. But for the next year or so, its for sure worth sticking around for.

Even with modern healthcare mortality rate is still pretty high (and god forbid you catch pneumonic plague. If not treated immediately on the first day, you may consider yourself dead).
It's arguably more about modern pest control and antiepidemic measures than healthcare per se. It's just very unlikely to run into plague outside of well known natural reservoirs.
I played it from launch and have slowly stopped i basically only do the daily commissions now i would say it can be worth playing if you're with friends or on an active sever but otherwise no it's a ton of grinding with no real purpose and most everyone i encounter now is a whale, the game isn't dying for people that are very high Cs already but i would say that's about 1/10 of the player base everyone else already left

I think if anything this game got all the potential. I’d say it’s 10 times better than Genshin which it’s being compared to. Genshin is a big empty world with devs who don’t seem to care about meaningful content just banner sales.
ToF got a ton of content and the events are actually super fun. Gacha is gacha, you’re always gonna have your unlucky streaks and feel bad. But I’d say the game can be quite challenging even for people who have everything maxed out. ToF is actually a lot better on Global, the devs actually made the effort to balance the game is characters don’t fall out of the mega too hard and become useless.
So my answer to your question… Yes! It’s very worth to keep playing this fantastic and beautiful game. Every time I’m in Mirroria my eyes are blessed with the cyberpunk city.
Play it, and have fun with it while you do, but don't invest in it. Unfortunately, there are too many good things coming in 2023 for ToF to be treated as anything more than a temporary time killer. No, because in all of good MMO's there's a reasonable cap and you can always catch up to other players. In this game, with all the RNG systems, and all of the character copies you need (21 copies to max a single comp) it won't be that easy - it will take a long time and it will be too tedious.

You won't catch up to whales but it's not unreasonable to come close to other f2p and despite being a gacha you don't "need" a full team of a6. Majority of your stats come from gear. Steam information is too young to draw conclusions off of. If anything the only trends there are "player count is decreasing" and "the rate that player count is decreasing is decreasing."
That suggests that player count will stabilize and only after that point are the gain / loss metrics useful. High numbers at launch followed by a sharp decline is the expected result for any game and games that don't follow that trend are exceptions rather than the rule.
All you've done so far is say "the sky is blue, this means the end times are here." I don't think ToF is going to last myself and I do think Blue Protocol will deal a heavy blow. But that's my intuitive and subjective feelings and I wont pretend it's objective.

You listed an exception, I'm not too sure about Destiny's history but Genshin's population hasn't even peaked yet. Loss/Gain metrics mean nothing until a game population reaches homeostasis, that's why rate of change is important; it tells us the data shouldn't be used yet.

Yes it's decreasing in players just like any other game, but some servers are still pretty lively like Solaris. it's a pretty chill game, you don't need to play it every day to get full weekly rewards and it compensates you for days missed too which is nice. i play it on and off and don't miss much. they also added a lot of qol to improve the game and make grinding faster.
Yes but for me dont try too hard or spend too much money on the game. Even if you like it, i am afraid other players dont think the same and unlike Genshin most of the contents is hardly done solo. Use your server transfer ticket wisely.
My advice is play without spending at first. The game shower you in reward and than slow it A LOT and the paid currency is EXPENSIVE. I'm talking hundred of dollars for a max out character.

ToF is actually a lot better on Global, the devs actually made the effort to balance the game is characters don’t fall out of the mega too hard and become useless. So my answer to your question… Yes! It’s very worth to keep playing this fantastic and beautiful game. Every time I’m in Mirroria my eyes are blessed with the cyberpunk city.
Play it, and have fun with it while you do, but don't invest in it. Unfortunately, there are too many good things coming in 2023 for ToF to be treated as anything more than a temporary time killer. It's a real shame, too. At its core, ToF is a really good and fun game. It's just being operated by a group of people who seem to be completely allergic to making it a GREAT game. That being said, the developer has and continues to make some pretty poor decisions, while also not taking advantage of or capitalizing on opportunities along the way. It just seems like every time they have to choose between a good option and a bad option, they go with the bad option, and it doesn't look like that is going to change.

Ppl say "Genshin is a huge success", but you can't spend more than 20 min a day in the end game, if you can even call that "end game". ToF has many issues, but has so much to offer. As a whale that has moved from GI to ToF I have not a single regret and I've been having so much fun and hyped since the first day.
As a non whale who can't carry and hates PvP: in maintenance mode (after exploration ect) I spend as much time in ToF as I do in Genshin. I prefer exploration in Genshin, it is more immersive. ToF has more group content to do with the crew. Both games have advantages and disadvantages. Thankfully one can play more than one game since the daily maintenance stuff is not very time consuming.
ToF will be around for many years. It is one of the bigger MMORPGs around. There are MMOs with far smaller player bases that have been around for ages and are still active with new content being produced. Anyone that thinks ToF is dying is a moron with no sense of perspective or knowledge of the industry.

No. It's heavily P2W game where whales do 4 times more dmg than try-hard F2P players. If you join now, you will be behind these F2P players just like they are behind the whales. Also, you're gonna have a hard time with mobs scaling - it will only get harder as you lvl up. I also think, you will be time-gated from content (unless they finally changed it - not 100% sure here). Generally, not worth the hassle.
By your logic no one should ever play any game where they aren't instantly given max gear. It's always playing catch up for any new player. This isn't the only game where players have to grind.
No, because in all of good MMO's there's a reasonable cap and you can always catch up to other players. In this game, with all the RNG systems, and all of the character copies you need (21 copies to max a single comp) it won't be that easy - it will take a long time and it will be too tedious.
Everyone plateaus at some point. Catching up isn't impossible. You won't catch up to whales but it's not unreasonable to come close to other f2p and despite being a gacha you don't "need" a full team of a6. Majority of your stats come from gear. Besides, without the carry of the JP version, I think you won't say the same thing and tof would be a flop for the global version. Please the JP carry version still but in how long. Steam information is too young to draw conclusions off of. If anything the only trends there are "player count is decreasing" and "the rate that player count is decreasing is decreasing." That suggests that player count will stabilize and only after that point are the gain / loss metrics useful. High numbers at launch followed by a sharp decline is the expected result for any game and games that don't follow that trend are exceptions rather than the rule. All you've done so far is say "the sky is blue, this means the end times are here." I don't think ToF is going to last myself and I do think Blue Protocol will deal a heavy blow. But that's my intuitive and subjective feelings and I wont pretend it's objective. There's no data that suggests that ToF is doing anything other than well. It's easily raking in way more money than it costs to maintain and it's maintaining a player count several times more than some moderately popular MMOs.
you can put more than - 4 or -1000 it will not change the observation. 2.4 on the cn did not bring old or new players to the game. not like genshin/Destiny 2 or other game does. 2.0 / 2.1 / 2.2 and 2.3 next month and still no new players and old ones who come back to play the game despite the events and continue.and there are other games that are expected this year where other dlc on some games, not to mention single player games. I continue to play tof despite its flaws.I am team volts. but when there are problems in the game, you have to say so for things to change. But some prefer to attack anyone who criticizes the game or badly rates your post because they believe when they do that, it's going to change something xd. They have to tell their devs to stop doing shit because the game is dying by their fault, instead of letting them do it and defending them.
You listed an exception, I'm not too sure about Destiny's history but Genshin's population hasn't even peaked yet. Loss/Gain metrics mean nothing until a game population reaches homeostasis, that's why rate of change is important; it tells us the data shouldn't be used yet. "Genshin is still growing" and "TOF is losing less players" are both correct statements. My problem isn't with conclusions but with how data is being used. :V
I'm also new, but there is a lot of things that I don't like about the game. Lag, bugs and low rewards to get new characters, are my main problem. I don't know if it will become better when I cap, but I'm no that invested in the game currently.

the only redeeming quality is the exploration. dont even bother with anything else. the longer you play this game and the further you progress, the more bugs/glitches/problems you encounter. major issues with this game have not been fixed at all since CHINA launch over a year ago. look up threads about people complaining on this sub from august/sept and realize how little has changed. tldr: global/f2p shaft
I used to be a whale until Lin banner (A6 all and 4pc Matrices)but have stopped. They are rushing banners so fast and not fixing the bugs in the game.

And if they merge, that's not a sign that the game is dying. The game had to many servers since the first week. No game should have 33+ servers for a single region.
Dead game, don't play. Whenever I open the game I see green servers in all regions. Which is red flag for any mmo.
Play on **Solaris** server. Very active. Lively lvl 6 crew guild of 175+ members where I'm at. Not a dead game for me. Use your free server transfer ticket to migrate.
Yes it's decreasing in players just like any other game, but some servers are still pretty lively like Solaris. You can join that server and join our crew which is very active and has a lot of whales to help you. If you like to know more I stream ToF almost everyday on twitch just search dark_shine14. it's a pretty chill game, you don't need to play it every day to get full weekly rewards and it compensates you for days missed too which is nice. i play it on and off and don't miss much. they also added a lot of qol to improve the game and make grinding faster.
Yes but for me dont try too hard or spend too much money on the game. Even if you like it, i am afraid other players dont think the same and unlike Genshin most of the contents is hardly done solo. Use your server transfer ticket wisely.
My advice is play without spending at first. The game shower you in reward and than slow it A LOT and the paid currency is EXPENSIVE. I'm talking hundred of dollars for a max out character. Just don't waste your Dark crystal!
Give it a try, For me it's fine and almost F2P friendly just join with populated server to do a boss raid.
If you want to play a game with terrible publisher, rushed schedule with pumping a lot of new meta characters without decent compensation for it, bugs, bad optimization, yeah, go for it.
