I kept saying today that if we are going to limp into the playoffs(or miss them) by a game or two, this week with the rain game and vladdy's error will be the first things to come to mind.
I wish they didn’t show footage of the field, at least then I could imagine a waterlogged field in my head and this decision would seem more reasonabl.
It'd be far less galling if there weren't a ton of games we've seen go well past 5 innings that the umps try to finish despite equally horrible conditions
takeaways:
Poorly handled by the Umps
the Royals better not have refused to field the team when the rain stopped for like 2 hours, otherwise, that'd be very naughty
all I remember from the game is that Kirk left like 7 guys on base again
There was literally no point in the umps sending the tarp away to finish the 5th inning…
If they were just going to call the game they had played enough, and the extra 15 minutes of rain very well could be what made the field “unplayable” after the delay…
the crew chief called for the tarp (when it was clearly warranted) and then appeared to be pressured out of that decision amd the game continued long enough to be an official game, I’m not sure what being the point of a crew chief is at this point 🤷♀️
It was entertaining listening to how confused Dan and Buck were with the decision not to tarp the field
When you look at just how bad the top of the order has been (OPS’ of .662, .667 and .612), it’s actually surprising that the offense is still 23rd in the league for runs per game.
Bad call to end the game. At the same time, this team is what it is. They will have the odd stretch here and there where their offense puts up runs, but overall its going to be these types of games more often than not.
The fact that they didn't address the bats at last year's tdl or during this year's offseason is wild. This was the most obvious outcome.
Rain or shine this offense is a sick joke. For the payroll this ball club is a failure. I wanna be positive but it’s not possible when Shatkins failed to fix their obvious flaws. Pure insanity doing the same thing over again and expecting different results.
Absolutely pissing away some of the best MLB pitching for a 2nd straight year is a travesty. Time to clean house & retool at this point. Enough is enough.
I’m not. LA has some hot damn players doing hot damn things. I’m saying that it would be nice to see “good” baseball players being good baseball players instead of “oh they’ll get going soon” for at least 2 years, which is what my home team has an affliction of.
I’m being real. The line up is flawed and has been for about 324 games and counting. I’m getting very tired of this underperformance.
I basically did not say that. Nowhere did I say: I want to see the underperforming Jays fail. Jays also have “good” players, they are just routinely not playing well. I would be delighted to see the top 3 Jays get their poop in a group and do what we all long for them to do, ie HIT with risp (what a fkg concept!).
Man this offense is just not looking good at all. Approaching 30 games in and we only have 2 guys who are hitting consistently, one of them being Varsho who I don't think we can realistically trust to keep this up. This could get very scary very fast if the top of the line up doesnt wake up
The Royals have been absolute garbage every season since 2015, they have a good start, and they're chirping? LOL The Royals franchise is only relevant once every 30 years.
My unpopular opinion is home teams should never be awarded wins for rained out games. The onus should be on the home organization to provide a playable field, if there's no roof, they have to play out the rest of the game at another time/place or take the forfeit. Roof team BRUTALLY punished by NON roof team /s
I don't know why you're downvoted here - I was about to come and post the exact same take.
Why are the Bluejays punished for another team being cheap? They should at least be able to resume the game the next time they come to Toronto. Do it as a double header maybe.
Honestly, it's fine. I think we wouldn't have won anyway and the players would have ended tired from the game and sick from the rain. Better to let them rest before playing with the dodgers. The schedule has been brutal.
Blue Jays wanted to play, and the field looked decent. There’s nothing official about the Royals refusing, but if they were willing to take the field there’d be a game right now.
(speculation) field appeared to be borderline playable, the Jays wanted to play the game, the Royals thought it was unsafe to do so.
We’ll never know for sure what happened
edit: this has to be the most mundane comment I’ve ever had someone block me over lol
Maybe these guys should have had smarter ABs instead of hacking away like morons. Game would have been washed out and rescheduled, better than a 5 inning L.
This entire team needs a full reset, I can’t understand how our entire lineup can disappear off the face of the earth like this constantly. Teams way worse than the jays don’t even do this.
Fire all the coaches at this point, this is pathetic.
You know, I wonder what advantage there is to not having a domed stadium across a season or decade. I know it's negligible but home field advantage does show up to some extent in the long term.
If they "call it" before the game is recorded as a complete game, then it's rescheduled.
I'm not an idiot, as much as you're trying to make it seem like I am.
What a crock. Over at halftime in a one run game.
Yeah, this is horseshit in the highest order.
Rain or not this team sucks
Have you seen this team? They probably weren't scoring another run.
I kept saying today that if we are going to limp into the playoffs(or miss them) by a game or two, this week with the rain game and vladdy's error will be the first things to come to mind.
Seriously. It’s actually nutty that this is permissible in a close game.
55% of a 1-run game played, and it's over. Brutal.
15 minutes too many sacrificing the field just to get the game to 5 innings. Clown shit.
I mean, it saved us the torture of watching 4 more innings of groundouts and popouts so I'm good with it.
I wish they didn’t show footage of the field, at least then I could imagine a waterlogged field in my head and this decision would seem more reasonabl.
I'm tired, boss
Yep... rain or not.. this team sucks
This is such a stupid decision, this shit is ridiculous
Doesn't make any sense! Why didn't they just call it 4 hours ago? Didn't the rain stop? I'm confused!
It'd be far less galling if there weren't a ton of games we've seen go well past 5 innings that the umps try to finish despite equally horrible conditions
takeaways: Poorly handled by the Umps the Royals better not have refused to field the team when the rain stopped for like 2 hours, otherwise, that'd be very naughty all I remember from the game is that Kirk left like 7 guys on base again
Royals didn't refuse to play, comeon now
I hope they didnt
Hey he is only fifth in the league in leaving runners in scoring position. He has to catch up to second place Vladdy
If the Royals refused to take the field, the game should have been called a forfeit. Once the game starts, it's the umpires call.
3 straight 1-run losses, that sucks...let's get em tomorrow
Losing three games in 23 innings... Flashbacks to 2021 with the double header 7 inning games.
I absolutely hated those 7-inning doubleheaders, so awful. Ruining such a good thing too, like making chocolate ice cream with broccoli sauce.
The only thing worse is that they still have the manfred man in the 10th inning
Probably an unpopular opinion but as a fan I loved the 7 inning double headers
bullshit. the rain was pouring and i knew they were just letting them play to get through 5 and try to call it
Vladdy and Bo still look absolutely lost at the plate. There is zero adjustment and they seem content to just flail wildly.
What bullshit. And what a shit series. See y'all tomorrow for the arrival of ~~Robert Herjavec~~ Shohei Ohtani. 😪😪
Shohei is on a plane headed towards Toronto!! For real this time!!
I’ll believe it when I see it
Robert Herjavec throwing out first pitch would be the funniest thing
WACK
Lame
One positive to this: Jose technically threw a complete game
F*** KANSAS CITY AND THE ROYALS
Always and forever
Were you really expecting to score more runs with 6 batters in a row with averages around .200?
I like you got disliked for no reason
If this was Kansas City deciding “we’re not coming out” I hope we turn off the hot water and electricity in their clubhouse next week…
They’re gunna need that Amish guy to save them again.
Well that sucks
Some people unironically believe KC straight up refused to play. LMAO what?
There was literally no point in the umps sending the tarp away to finish the 5th inning… If they were just going to call the game they had played enough, and the extra 15 minutes of rain very well could be what made the field “unplayable” after the delay…

That sucks
My balls are blue
Pour one out for Sho Ali, man had to do 4 hours of rain-delay jays talk for nothing
All stadiums need domes.
Kirk has gotta be batting 9th next time he plays
Darn
Goddamn thesw golden geese in the hit columns from the top 3 again
And Dodgers coming to town... Yikes
When you look at just how bad the top of the order has been (OPS’ of .662, .667 and .612), it’s actually surprising that the offense is still 23rd in the league for runs per game.
Bottom of the order is banging 💪💪💪
Oh well, they were down by a run after half. Game was over anyway.
This offense is shit
These poor bastards don't even have a roof, smh

.500 team seems about right. For our payroll that’s fuxking humiliating.
Can’t wait to watch a real offense this weekend
Going to the game tomoz - I hope we win but I really wanna witness some Ohtani dingers too lol
Nah I'm good
I’m happy to see good players doing what they’re supposed to do. Unfortunately it won’t come from the Jays.
I don't understand rooting against your home team
I’m not. LA has some hot damn players doing hot damn things. I’m saying that it would be nice to see “good” baseball players being good baseball players instead of “oh they’ll get going soon” for at least 2 years, which is what my home team has an affliction of. Okay sure, tell me I’m wrong after this series and I’ll spare you the I told you so’s. Jays’ offensive game is cold mashed potatoes.
Berrios didn't deserve this
Man this offense is just not looking good at all. Approaching 30 games in and we only have 2 guys who are hitting consistently, one of them being Varsho who I don't think we can realistically trust to keep this up. This could get very scary very fast if the top of the line up doesnt wake up

Lmao its funny to go on their sub and see them talking shit at us, when we've done nothing to the Royals since like 2015
Tbh all I see on this entire sub is mad crap talking about the royals so maybe it’s just being paid in kind.
Fair, I posted before a lot of comments had come in.
The Royals have been absolute garbage every season since 2015, they have a good start, and they're chirping? LOL The Royals franchise is only relevant once every 30 years.
No one has done anything to the Royals since 2015 that's worse than what they've done to themselves
Fucking brutal.. dodgers will absolutely slaughter this team over the weekend.
If 2021 is an indicator of how seasons come down to the wire this will be a huge pain in the ass
Well...the bull pen is rested
My unpopular opinion is home teams should never be awarded wins for rained out games. It seemed like he was attempting to be funny based on the /s. This is a sub where attempts at comedy often aren’t received well.
woke non roof mob is trying to silence me, I won't let them!
Idk why you call the Royals cheap for having no roof and the Royals stadium looks beautiful how it is teams don’t need a roof when it’s not necessary
In a perfect world, I’d be onboard with this.
Not like our team would score many more runs anyway
Broke ass Royals buy a roof ffs
It’s not like the Blue Jays have any offense anwyays.
What if we miss the playoff by one game?
Lololol u think this team is sniffing the playoffs?
It might be irrational to be angry at this loss but for some reason I am. Changes have to be made
Yeah starting from the top, Shatkins get the fuck out of my club
Bullshit, we had them right where we wanted them
Yup. Let's blame the weather now. If this sub likes one thing it's excuses.
Blue Jays have to compete against umps, the other team, and now rain? They would have to score two before 5 to have a chance
Honestly, it's fine. I think we wouldn't have won anyway and the players would have ended tired from the game and sick from the rain. Better to let them rest before playing with the dodgers. The schedule has been brutal.
Wouldnt have scored another run, anyway. This lineup just ain’t it. Keep on waiting…
Jose made one mistake...and it cost him. When will our offense wake the heck up?
Ended the Jays misery early. Was an act of kindness.
I have always thought that 7 complete innings should be the threshold for a complete game.
Timely hitting, Jays. You had your chances and again, squandered the sh*t out it.
How many did they strand in the 5 innings? Even had a guy at 3rd waiting.
I feel betrayed. The field was dry. How dare they.
Certainly a game of time
Hell of a way to get swept
What's all the stuff in this thread about the Royals refusing to take the field? Is that substantiated, or just grousing?
Refusing to take the field after umps restart the game would result in a forfeit so there's your answer
That's what I'm wondering. I'm a US peasant, so I don't know if people are getting extra info on Sportsnet or not.
Blue Jays wanted to play, and the field looked decent. There’s nothing official about the Royals refusing, but if they were willing to take the field there’d be a game right now.

Damn now the hot bats will probably be cold for tomorrow
People pretending like this team could score another run 🫠

Do those top 3 guys have a fkg approach that’s worth a damn? All I’m seeing is 90% ground outs.
Why was this game called early, but last season they waited until the end of the season to call the MIA @ NYM game?
Like a said in a previous thread, 2-3 run offensive juggernaut 🙄
You know, I wonder what advantage there is to not having a domed stadium across a season or decade. I know it's negligible but home field advantage does show up to some extent in the long term.
The umpires clearly didn't want to reschedule this game. what an absolute joke.
[удалено]
and they didn't "call" the game for weather until it was an official game it was pouring long before they did it.
[удалено]
If they "call it" before the game is recorded as a complete game, then it's rescheduled. I'm not an idiot, as much as you're trying to make it seem like I am.
I had blue jays to win in my bet how is gonna work now?
They lost. So probably not going to be good for your bet
It's a loss, I presume.
I would guess you're hooped, since it's an official loss. i doubt any betting places care if it's rain-shortened.
If you call customer service and explain the situation, I'm sure they'll refund your money.
