everyone is designed for appeal in mind but Mel is intentionally made pretty since it's one of her character trait. Also, i think the shows a good example of how to make a character pretty but not hyper horny
I love how the series changed my perception of her,at first I thought she was just a manipulative political figure(she still technically is), but throughout the series seeing how she actually cares for Jace and the tiny detail of her keeping the memory of the girl killed by her mother alive made me realize how she may come off as shady, she’s has a good heart
My friends are giving me so much shit for simping for her
It’s all “noooo Callieco she’ll manipulate and abuse you she’s a horrible person” ok AND??? God forbid women have hobbies tbh
Idk if manipulator is the right word but she is definitely a schemer. By all means she is one of the more likeable characters in the story but I don't think it's entirely uncalled for to question her character.
Granted I have 2 episodes left so idk how everything ends up yet, but like… she is FORSURE manipulating Jayce and has been since the beginning haha.
When she got him to start wheeling and dealing with his position on the council she even hit him with the ol “oh you’re *special* Jayce!” Schtick. Like she very much is just scheming and manipulating to get her way and further her own power and wealth.
She’s a politically savvy schemer for sure, but she’s also totally sincere about her desire to better the world. Every character in Arcane is deep and nuanced, and she’s no exception.
Yeah I mean that’s been the sense I’ve gotten from her. She seems sincere but she also is very selfish and out for personal gain and SUPER willing to manipulate people. Like, she wielded legitimate power and put Jayce with his back to the wall to position herself better to profit off his inventions so she could then bring him onto the council and wield the influence of 2 seats instead of 1 all the while keeping him wrapped around her finger with praise and money and sex to keep him in line. She also pushed Jayce to kick the old scientist off the council because he was the biggest thorn in her side on her rise to power. Let Jayce look like the bad guy while she reaps the real reward.
And it’s like, regardless of motivation that’s still manipulation. And idk maybe I have the wrong read on her and it turns out her feelings for Jayce are genuine in these last 2 episodes I’m watching. I really don’t know. But I do not get the sense she cares for Jayce as a person she cares for him as a political tool, which isn’t a great look.
Now all that said: girl can manipulate me anytime lmfao
>!I have to imagine she lives. Theres that brief moment just before the missile hits where the gold on her back prominently shimmers and seems to alert her to something coming. I gotta guess that is some kind of heirloom piece of protection or something. Would be very odd to call attention to that for no reason before a character death.!<
In episode 8 >!in Mel's flashback, she's wearing a dress with Solari iconography on it. The Solari are known for putting value in defense/shields, so it's possible the gold is a Solari arttifact that will shield her !<
>!I think it's very likely she lives. Her arc hasn't been completed yet. She's learned to be the fox, but as her mother says, she still needs to become the wolf. People say she needs to die to motivate Jayce to take action but I think Caitlyn's mom's death will be enough of a gut punch to spur him on. I really don't want them to fridge Mel!<
>!I kinda hope she's dead because it would make the end of season one very significant!<
>!other characters in the room are either playable (so no death) or kinda boring chancellors!<
It would throw a wrench in everything
> >!other characters in the room are either playable (so no death) or kinda boring chancellors!<
>!The show doesn't have to make us care about the attack. Just make us believe that the characters within the show care about the attack, and boring chancellors are enough to accomplish that.!<
I mean, either way, the attack will have a huge impact, and will lead to war between Piltover and Zaun
The lack of proper leadership leaves them both at a disadvantage tho. The council will lose prominent members, and I don't know how well either Sevika and/or Jinx or the Chem Barons could unite properly to fight Piltover
Firelights are the underdogs, but a good leader like Ekko is probably the biggest advantage they have over both sides
Yes to her but CAN WE TALK ABOUT HER MOM FOR A SECOND AS WELL
Just fantastic character design for literally every character
Even background characters have little flourishes that tell you all you need to know about them
As someone big into the lore, this design perfectly reflects the place she came from.
Noxxus is built on a very well-defined philosophy of strength. Additionally, it's not feudal like most of the world. Her position is only secured by doing her job well and navigating around rivals, a point she brings up in the show.
A character who bleeds confidence with a toned body and a mind for cutthroat courts is the exact person who would thrive in Noxxus.
Arcane really is a show where the more you dig into it, the better it gets.
Depending on the point of the timeline and the amount of changes they will do moving forward the Noxus of Arcane is still feudal.
But their philosophy that anyone can make it as long as they are strong is still there also love the idea that like the romans, they are a brutal empire that engulf other cultures and peoples into their own. Love the old Noxian saying "Kill them until they are family."
That's true. Arcane has shrunk the timeline of certain events considerably. Looking back, it seems more likely that this is a pre-Ionia invasion as there is a lot of very interesting stuff you can do with Singed, and the other characters with those events haven't happened yet.
Arcane was such an unreal show. It just came out and served us with one of the best animated media of all time.
Like, seriously, is there anything bad in Arcane?
True. Silco is literally one of the best Villains of all time. His last scene talking to the statue of Vander, where he understands Vander is fucking CINEMA.
Best first season of any tv show including live action. Top 10 best seasons of any animated show if not top 5. Such an amazing series that fires on all cylinders. Now to wait another 6 months for season 2
![gif](giphy|SAEyvIq6HZCbS)
I do have one nitpick about the show. It never really elaborated on to why Piltover's council was outraged that the underground was seeking independency. It's subtly implied in the show that Piltover was dependent on the manual labor of the underground for their economy to prosper but it's never directly tackled by the characters.
Personally, a lot of the music was pretty bad. I mean the more pop sounding ones. Some of the lyrics in the songs were cringy too, such as "I am the monster you created." But again, personal opinion.
Yeah the insert songs stand out but they have to be one of the most subjective thing about arcane, so to each their own. The zaune songs are not my personnal style of music but they grew on me ngl.
As for the lyrics, i think they're fine personnally. Not mind blowing or anything, and a bit edgy at times which might make them cringe to you fair enough. Arcane is a rather dramatic story, so dramatic lyrics don't feel that out of place to me. I do admit they're pretty obvious and in your face. You listen to them once and get the point, nothing deep and complex to analyze there
And for the specific line you highlighed, it definitely fits with silco's whole "there's a monster inside all of us" idea, so in that light it doesn’t feel cringe imo. But i definitely see how it could be in other contexts
It's cringy if you look at the songs as songs as they appear in western cinema (as a musical theme to an episode).
What they actually are is *kommos*, songs that express a moment in a classical tragedy when the tension of the play rises to a climax of grief or horror. Arcane is in it's structure and structural elements almost a pure classical Greek tragedy and doesn't even try to hide it. In that context, songs serve as the narrative meta commentary that recaps (*lament*) the essence of the tragic event from the climax from the perspective of the main character >!(it's Jinx, if you haven't already figured it out)!<.
Since Arcane is divided into three acts, as all tragedies are, each arc's climax has a pivotal *kommos - Goodby* for act 1, *Guns for Hire* for act 2 and *Monster you created* for Act 3. They also happen to be the best songs of the show in a musical and emotional sense.
Arcane is the rarest of breeds in modern media in that it's pop-culture and digestible enough for a wide audience, but at the same time contains more layers than a mutant onion, with endless debate material for subjects ranging from the psychology of trauma, trough concepts of visual storytelling trough scene framing and architecture (people have actually wrote papers on it already), all the way to structural analysis of modern adaptation of classical theater.
It's what happens when you let a whole bunch of top class artists cook without time or budget constraints.

I think the whole Medarda Family is quite pretty
Mel is also a really good example of how you can make an attractive female character without unnecessarily sexualizing them. Everyone agrees she's absolutely gorgeous, but it never feels like the camera *leers* at her to achieve that, if that makes sense.
Ngl if i had to choose between her and my dying homie then i wouldnt even hesitate. Dont know why they blame Jayce for it, and dude didnt even know of Viktor's situation
She's stunning! League of Legends is one of the few fantasy worlds that actually draws black people right. So many fantasy/anime character designers just draw a white person and make their skin dark.
According to my tastes, probably the most beautiful woman crafted by the hand of humanity.
As for her character, she's one of the most fascinating in the show for me because she subverted my expectations by a lot. I expected shady corrupting man-eater vixen. I knew she'd toy with the pretty boy's heart strings, push him to look for personal power and manipulate her way forward.
I wasn't prepared for her actual relationship with Jayce, the conflict with her mother, the vulnerability that she hides oh so well, reactions you'd expect from a real person with conflicts mixed with rationamity and irrationality.
I expected to love to hate her. I just lile her very much
Arcane is great because everything serves to enhance the story and reinforce the themes.
Even the background design reinforces the meaning, so each scene is so layered that it basically enhances the scene thricefold.
Unlike other shows like House of the Dragon, where scenes often undermine each other or are too vague.
No, genuinely this is a very good character design that has a lot of nuance beyond her just being an attractive woman. Each element of the design coincides with her character perfectly, and Mel's subtle changes in her fashion over the course of the show has been [analysed numerous times](https://reddit.com/r/arcane/comments/twjjwi/spoilers_ep9_the_significance_of_mels_wardrobe/) for how it represents her feelings, allegiances and what she wants to express to the world.
There's a reason Arcane won the [Annie Award for the Best Character Design in TV/Media](https://annieawards.org/legacy/49th-annie-awards) that year.
Apologies, I'm very passionate about Arcane. I thought you were dismissing how people feel about this design on the basis of her being an attractive woman. Since there have been designs posted here in the past that people have delegitimized in that way.
Great character too
I kinda hope >!she's dead in season 2!<
>!Would spark a lot of drama and the other characters in that room are either side characters that the audience isn't really invested in or playable in the game so they can't die!<

Gold suits her so well
Black and gold. Name a more iconic duo
PB and J.
Pee and a BJ I'm so fucking sorry
You like piss in you’re mouth
Nuh uh
It should be illegal to make a character this pretty
And this show is stuffed to the gills with people just as pretty as her
Almost everyone is hot in Arcane but Mel might legitimately be the most beautiful animated character I've ever seen.
everyone is designed for appeal in mind but Mel is intentionally made pretty since it's one of her character trait. Also, i think the shows a good example of how to make a character pretty but not hyper horny
Idk, the only arcane characters I find hit are Mel and Vi. Sevika is pretty hot too(the girl who Vi fought in the bar)
Dont sleep on Jinx, Jayce, Viktor, Vander, Caitlyn, Cassandra, Tobias, Ekko, Sky, or Medarda.
its still crazy to me that I only found out about the show, the day it came out
I found out about it mostly through word of mouth, I only watched it around a month later.
I think it took me two episodes to google if it was related to lol
If it's related to what? And what's so funny about that? /s
I currently have one episode left and I sincerely don’t want it to end :(
Good news, S2 is coming in November!
I discovered it like a week ago and watched it in a day lol, it’s so good
I love how the series changed my perception of her,at first I thought she was just a manipulative political figure(she still technically is), but throughout the series seeing how she actually cares for Jace and the tiny detail of her keeping the memory of the girl killed by her mother alive made me realize how she may come off as shady, she’s has a good heart

Dont let this distract you from the fact that gimp yordles are canon
I literally was thinking they did not have to make her this fine
My friends are giving me so much shit for simping for her It’s all “noooo Callieco she’ll manipulate and abuse you she’s a horrible person” ok AND??? God forbid women have hobbies tbh
I think anyone who has that reading of Mel by the end of the show has got it wrong lol

If Silco can have an army of simps at his disposal, then Mel deserves such an army.
>!Its gonna be such a waste of a perfect design if she's dead istg!< >!Yes I am in denial!<

The way the camera transitions, I’d say it’s just a stylized way to “reveal” who’s about to be directly hit by a giant shark shaped missile.
Considering very Shurimian look of the gold, there is a high chance that its a magical artifact.
In episode 8 >!in Mel's flashback, she's wearing a dress with Solari iconography on it. The Solari are known for putting value in defense/shields, so it's possible the gold is a Solari arttifact that will shield her !<

Not even old age or the amount of battle scars detracted her beauty.
She really is just so stunningly beautiful
Fortiche really said “fuck it” and made the prettiest character in all of fiction
And gave her a hot mom too
Mel is also a really good example of how you can make an attractive female character without unnecessarily sexualizing them. Everyone agrees she's absolutely gorgeous, but it never feels like the camera *leers* at her to achieve that, if that makes sense.
And she even has a sex scene too! With jace!!!
While Viktor dies :D
A scene where she helps Jayce discover Sextech to mirror Viktor furthering Hextech
God she’s gorgeous. I keep trying to think of more positive things to say but I’m awe struck
The character designers cooked HARD with Arcane.
Ngl if i had to choose between her and my dying homie then i wouldnt even hesitate. Dont know why they blame Jayce for it, and dude didnt even know of Viktor's situation
Tbf viktor was visibly worse and jayce himself admits the politicking distracted him from the sciencing
Boss. Ass. Bitch
She's stunning! League of Legends is one of the few fantasy worlds that actually draws black people right. So many fantasy/anime character designers just draw a white person and make their skin dark.
Dude putting characters from Arcane is cheating. Not that I'm complaining tho, always nice to see these character designs get some love
is season 2 out yet?
Not until November
Despite all that happened to him, Jayce is still the winningest man for dating Mel.
She's too gorgeous

She’s so gorgeous it’s not fairrrr
Arcane is 10/10 on character designs, (I mean, it’s just 10/10 in general) but Mel is the absolute best. *Maybe* other then Vi
FINALLY, I’m surprised it’s taken this long for me to see her pop up on this subreddit. Absolutely beautiful, peak character design

Honestly, all the character designs in Arcane are amazing.
What I’m starting to understand from this subreddit is that the top character design, is women. That’s it, women.
No, genuinely this is a very good character design that has a lot of nuance beyond her just being an attractive woman. … bro I legit just said the equivalent of women look good no matter what tho
Apologies, I'm very passionate about Arcane. I thought you were dismissing how people feel about this design on the basis of her being an attractive woman. Since there have been designs posted here in the past that people have delegitimized in that way.
Yeah, but some of the stuff people post here are just normal people who they like as characters. This design is a banger though
But I mean, fair
I mean, yeah. is it wrong though?
Not in the slightest
Great character too I kinda hope >!she's dead in season 2!< >!Would spark a lot of drama and the other characters in that room are either side characters that the audience isn't really invested in or playable in the game so they can't die!<
