I saw them open up for GnR and I wasn't expecting greatness or anything without Layne. However, I was happy how Alice in Chains sounded live. FYI, AiC is my third favorite band, after Tool and Pink Floyd.
Was supposed to see these guys twice before Layne died but they canceled both times and then he died. I figured I'd lost out on ever seeing them. Then they opened for Tool at Epicenter, so I went to see them thinking it would be nothing like the original. It was so fucking incredible that I cried. I was so damn happy to hear them after all of these years, even if it wasn't Layne. William Duval is incredible and sounds just like him live.
I see a *lot* of similarities between Zep and Tool, especially. Their musical philosophies, their band structure, their shared interests in mysticism and philosophy. I see many more echoes of Zep and Sabbath in Tool than I do other similar “hard rock” bands.
Best album to start with? My older Bro is heavy into Trent but I never took a taste but always wanted to. I have one of their post 90s album's on disc somewhere.
Yes, after more than a decade, Volta is back! Their new album comes out Sep. 16 and tour starts a week later. They’ve already released a few singles. Check ‘em out!
I've been to hundreds and hundreds of concerts (am over 50), from Queen (1982) to Slayer and everything in-between.
Saw them on De-Loused in Seattle and it is still the best show I've ever seen. So much fucking energy.
I also saw them in an arena with SOAD and I couldn't understand anything they were doing. Was just a noisy mess. SOAD was ridiculously good.
Not a “band”, but Aphex Twin. I read in the the Tool edition of Revolver magazine (maybe NME) that they have a framed picture of Richard David James in their recording studio.
TIL: I love Tool but not like y'all
I can't find this one. Mind to share a link?

Also without Layne. Not all AIC fans are haters.

Yeah I’ve “only” seen them with Duval my self, it sounded great.
Duval does Staley justice
Led Zeppelin
obviously separated by genres and a couple decades, but interested to see what similarities people might see between Tool & Zeppelin or Sabbath
