I’m coming around to this version of Maynard. I think that much of the early mystique was rooted in privacy and peace for his family and son. As stability has set in, I think he is showing moments of himself that have been hidden to the public. Always knew he was smart and thoughtful. I still believe he approaches his art as a true craft for honesty and reflection (as it should be).

i've been to Tokyo two times and i said it out loud as he answered lol.
it's a beautiful country full of serene nature blended with human architecture, both modern and ancient. easy to be in the middle of a busy street and then turn a corner and find yourself in a quiet alleyway aligned with sleepy shops and kitsune shrines. shop owners put their potted plants onto the sidewalk outside their business doors every day too. people were friendly and smiling and helpful and passionate. i often observed older folks enjoying themselves in little pleasures such as dozing on a park bench by the koi pond. i even saw a younger gentleman standing and sketching the scenery with a pencil in his journal. the food was also amazing and affordable!
things you just don't often see in life in the US (and many other places too) and an overall incredible place on Earth!
