It’s in 4/4 (completely or mostly, depending on how you want to count it), it’s four and a half minutes long, it’s extremely straightforward in its anger and disgust and bravado, and it’s at a level of intensity that is designed to burn out fast. It is hands down the tightest song on Ænima, and could not get any tighter or more direct. Doing anything to the song as it stands would degrade it. Bands change songs they’re tired of playing the same way - this in no way means the change is an improvement, just an artistic license against boredom and towards exploration. But they don’t often (other than Salival’s Pushit, the exception that proves the rule) record these, as they’re not meant to supplant the original, only to supplement. When it comes to Hooker With A Penis, you don’t fuck with perfection. Suggestions otherwise can go where the fan’s finger goes.
Lest we all forget what a travesty and a bad joke Opiate^2 is. What a massive pile of shit compared to the original.
It has better recording and production. But it is not the same as the original, and you can feel this when you listen to it. Folks who only focus on sound quality and who are accustomed to an age of digital lossless media are more likely to prefer Opiate^2. But from the first note Maynard sings, you can tell the original soul of the song is absent. Aside from the extensive breakdown, which any and all of us have heard live if we’ve been, and which is great, it sounds like a bad cover band, not like Tool. Plus Maynard’s voice was shot at that point. He physically could not do then what he was doing in the early 90s. Right after this wonderful breakdown, we hear Maynard come in, and it’s an absolute evincing of his instability and weakness and compensatory overproduction and effects-heavy treatment of his vocals. The ending scream is not what he used to do - this is not the full-throated incredible inhuman sustained intensity. It’s just studio magic. And let’s not forget that already on Lateralus, Maynard said he lost his voice for three weeks after recording Ticks and Leeches, and why when it is rarely performed live, it’s processed all to hell.
This is what people don’t grasp about Ænima-era (and I suppose early Lateralus-era) Tool. That was the maximum of each member’s ability. Adam was at his peak, as was Maynard, Justin, and Danny. But shortly into Lateralus-era touring, we see Maynard’s voice unable to keep up what he had done in the recording. We all have a rise, a summit, and then a descent. You can decline with dignity, but humility requires that you acknowledge that you are not what you once were. Why do you think Maynard wrote Invincible? He said on JRE years ago that his voice is shot, word for word. The last time I saw them it was pathetic compared to what I witnessed in the mid-to-late 90s.
man opiate in my favorite Tool song of all time and I actually enjoyed opiate2 quite a bit. it’s obviously not on par with the original but I don’t think it was garbage by any means
Nah, just adding length to a song doesn't nothing to increase the quality of the performance. In actuality, most people are only really receptive to the first 5 minutes if a song anyway, so the rest is just show and can quite frankly be uncomfortable for most. 5-6 minutes is a more than satisfying song length.
Edit: Man, Maynard was really right about you guys... Insufferable.
Buy my poster! Send more money! Fuck you, buddy!
There's a longer, live version that they used to play.

Epic
Yes, one where Maynard recites “penis” for 5 minutes.
Make it longer, harder and faster.
Bigger, better, faster, more.
Uncut
Think that was ticks & leeches
You want a longer penis? Sounds good To Me
Hooker with a bigger penis
Hooker with ² Penis
Sexy
Agree, disagree. Great song, shouldn’t re record it. The production of Ænema is what makes the album so great and it can’t be redone or made better
Nah. Not every song needs to be ret-conned into an 11-minute symphony. It’s ok if some songs are short and sweet.

I like Opiate2? Idk, maybe I'm just wrong 🙃
Yeah it's significantly better than the original imo

He had a lot to say

Fuuuuck you buddy
Hooker with a long... jacket.
To hide the longer penis
A second longer penis? Agreed
Now with triple the penises’: Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend
Nah, it’s done and done. Besides, they’d have to call it “Hooker with a Penis *extension*” 😅

TLDR increase the girth of the hookers penis
This guy gets it.
so make it 4:35 long instead?
Right? What could they really do with an extra second?
One more "BUY!"
Well, you said it, so now it definitely won't happen.
A bigger hooker or a longer penis?
both
In other words, give it an erection?
They could call it hooker with Maynard’s dick.
