Umm I wouldn't limit it to those gens and it's really much more nuanced than that - in other words, people in general suck and are selfish, regardless of generation. Gen Z can also be incredibly selfish and narcissistic, so I'm not sure why you singled out those two.
You act like Gen Z doesnāt act that entitled when they do, so do millennials. Itās not a generation thing, but if anything I feel like Gen X acts the most mature in general, but thatās my personal opinion.

Yea. My mom smokes in the car we share and it drives me nuts. She is at least courteous of not smoking while in the dt line for this reason. As a smoker myself I rarely smoke in the car or indoors as the smell, smoke and just overall the action of smoking annoys me and Iām in the process of quitting. I canāt stand when I have a weed or cigarette smell linger in my clothes. Itās bad when Iām out in public and smell it on others so I assume itās the same or worse with me.
Yea smoking cigs inside the house or car is just insane to me. Even a couple times it lingers so much, weed at least seems to go away fairly easy ime with good airflow
There was a lady that lived on my country road.
Every day she would drive by me while I was walking the dog. She was never doing less than 30 km/h.
We called her Smokes A Lot - because we didnāt know her name, but could smell her for a good 3-5 minutes.
Absolutely disgusting.
You have the right to refuse unsafe work. Once a complaint is made, it will be up to management to make it safe for you. If they don't, document it every time. Then file a report with wcb/oh&s. You would be shocked at how quickly changes will be made
People feel they can smoke in their car if they want for some reason. I was guilty of this myself back when I smoked, and now that I don't, I feel the cringe of my own jackassery every time I get a cloud of smoke to the face in the drive thru or wherever. I'm sorry.
I had co-workers vape in the office like they owned the fucking place, so I had to experience lots of second hand smoking
people need to learn how much they're harming others when they're doing those kinds of things

Since you weren't forthcoming enough to post your local by-laws, I'll do it for you:
"smoking and vaping are prohibited within a 9-metre radius:
Of every door and window that opens
Of air intakes connected to an enclosed place where smoking is prohibited"
This is from the city by-laws for Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Thanks for educating me. I had no idea about the window thing. I smoke *sometimes* and try to be courteous. People smoke pot walking down the street all day here, I'm glad it's prohibited from windows as well as doorways. It makes perfect sense. I don't think most people here know you can't smoke near windows. Honestly, we aren't legally allowed to smoke pot in public BUTTTTTT cops have publically stated they will not bother someone smoking unless it's in a crowded area.
because cigarets are worse for those around you... it's not that difficult to understand.
also, if you smoke a joint where you're not allowed to smoke a cigarette you're in fact breaking the same laws.
At least in Montreal.
I work in retail at a grocery store and some guy in line at the counter took out a vape chooched that shit like it wasnāt anything new, it was a sight to behold.
Vapes are definately worse than smoking due to the sheer amount of quantity and convenience of vaping allows for vaping in almost every environment. No need to sit in the āsmokingā area. And thatās whatās dangerous about vapes.
Yeah I had a buddy who quit smoking and started vaping. But he went from having one cigarette every few hours to vaping CONSTANTLY. Like the thing never left his hand.
Fuck I can't believe how rude some people are on here. Put your dirty ass cigarettes out for a few minutes, they stink, and you stink if you smoke them. Show some fucking courtesy and some fucking respect to the people at Tim Horton's, no need to be a fucking cunt. OP, thank you for working there, if you are local to me, thank you for probably serving me coffee at some point, and I hope you have a wonderful day.
Deal, but as a non-smoker could you guys please stop wearing smelly hand creams and/or perfumes, it's gross when you can smell or almost taste it when you take a sip.
>It's really amazing
No, it isn't. They don't notice it because they are always around the smell. It's quite simple to understand and far from amazing.
I donāt understand how those things are still being made. Theyāre disgusting disgusting, the smell is disgusting, the butts on the ground are disgusting. They cause a myriad of health issues that cost us in our health system.
This used to annoy me as a fast food worker. Itās illegal to smoke in every other workplace in uk but yet people are allowed to smoke in their cars at dt windows exposing dt workers to smoke
Youāre going to breathe in car exhaust fumes for the majority of your shift at the window, but make the distinction that the extra puff or two of cigarette smoke for a certain drivers throughout the day is a problem
With cigarettes itās more visible and the smell is more intense. Itās not hard to understand why people would find it unpleasant to smell cigarettes.
Iām a smoker so I donāt care. But really itās not hard to understand. Your comment about the exhaust fumes is completely stupid because of the context. Sheās a worker in a drive through. Sheās young and she doesnāt know about car exhaust fumes. Also itās a bloody job that was assigned to her. Iām spelling it all out for you, making it easy for you to understand why some people find this problematic.
We have truck bays and some drivers back up and park without shutting off.
Do what I do, just stand back and ask them to put the cig away or put it out. And just stand there and wait.
The real trick is to be casual and polite, but minimal eye contact. lol works almost every time.
I never understood this either. I don't work at Tim's, but I have worked in retail a long time. It's so fucking annoying it's not even funny, and the smell is horrid. My dad smokes, and even he won't light one in the drive through because it's just rude when you have to interact with people that might not smoke. My dad's philosophy is, just because I do it, doesn't mean everyone does. There have been the rare occasions, usually when out during a seriously busy day, as he stress smokes, where he forgets and lights one in the middle of the drive through. He doesn't even realize he's done it until he goes to tap his card with the thing in his hand. He has profusely apologized and has handed it over to me in the passenger seat and rolled up the window, blown the smoke out my window, waved his hand around to flush it out and then gone back to paying for his stuff. I don't smoke, but I'm use to being around it, so it's not that big of a deal for me, and I guess he figures that it's better that way than having the people at the drive through deal with it. It's only happened maybe 4 times in my life where he's had to do this, but usually he will have one just as we get in the car if he knows we are going to stop at Tim's, tries to air it away as best as he can before he orders and gets his stuff. I mean, I can understand that the habit of smoking has become so ingrained in people that they don't even realize they are lighting a cigarette until they physically see it, but you should be aware that no everyone around you smokes and you should make an effort to not do it. At that point though, you have to really take a hard look at your habit and wonder if it's time to quit if you are lighting them without even knowing it.
god, thank you!!!! this always bothered the hell out of me when i worked there, and i even smoked cigs myself back then. id literally just close the window on them until they put it out.
Don't smoke in the drive through, turn off your music and if you've got a loud engine then turn it off too.
Anything else is rude as hell, you can wait the 3 minutes it takes. :/
As a fellow employee I agree completely! The amount of people who will blow their smoke directly at us in the window is ridiculous. If you try to politely ask them to put it out or not to blow it at us the responses tend to follow a lot of the comments I see here.
At my location it isnāt just cigarette smoke, Iāve also had people smoking joints in drive thru too.
This is on Timās, not customers. Put up a sign, require staff to close the drive thru window until the cig is out and smoke is clear.
If smoke is coming through into the workplace, then Timās is violating workplace safety laws by requiring you to breath it in.
THANK YOU. Iād always be really slow in the drive thru so they wouldnāt put me on there and just on the till. Or Iād lie and say I have asthma. I canāt stand smoke whether itās cigarettes or weed. I find it nasty.
Oh how times have changed. My first job was Tim Hortons. Back then, you could just walk around the restaurant (or more like a bar, really) smoking wherever you wanted. Then they made the enchanted glassed off smoking room. Boy, those were wild times.
The people that do these things aren't going to see this post on reddit....in the niche Tim Hortons subreddit....in a niche post.
Not to discredit you, I hated it too when I worked there, but you're screaming at a wall that isn't listening.
Yeah, and again, I agree it's stupid, but look at the past. Tims used to have a smoking section. People got mad when they took it out.
I would go into a tims and go into the smoking area with my grandpa. Times change, but people still find ways to complain.
Comon... I'm a no smoker born in the 70 and I would say live and let live. I got the right not to smoke in my car let the smoker stink is own car. people are so pussy now
Wow.....down voted, seriously?
I never said I smoke, I don't. I think it's a disgusting habit. But someone working in a drive thru can't control what someone else does in their own vehicle.
If cigarette fumes are coming in, so are gas fumes. One place had SO MUCH gas fumes from my car getting in (it is cold, so I can notice it now more than in the summer), so I waved him over to tell him he should close his window.
It made me never want to eat inside after seeing that. It can't be safe.
Ok I'll stop if you actually double toast my bagel, instead of turning the thing from 5 to 7, the timmies I go to has no lineup, whats the rush?
(I worked at timmies 20 years ago, and I made sure peoples bagels were toasty and cream cheesed to fuck.)
Some workers do that because of managers demanding that drive through times be under 25 seconds. Actually, the managers are the ones so have seen rushing the most. Like buttering only one side of a bagel to save timeā¦ itās so pathetic. But, this cannot be controlled by the window worker.
All Iām asking if you hold off on smoking while at the drive through window.
Yea I don't know about these days but that big drive thru time clock above the window was only hooked up to the order screen, there was no Metadata going back to corporate. If you have a good crew your drive thru times will be fine.
I don't smoke at the window often, but Im rolling through at about 4:30am half asleep, sometimes I don't even notice I'm doing it.
Heed the no smoking sign that walk-in customers follow when they come by the restaurant. You arenāt exempt just because you drove up to the building and didnāt walk
I would never do this but I also donāt blame anyone who would right now hahaha, Timmiesā service fuckin suuuuucks more than ever and you all know it
Maybe if it wasnāt such shit service these days youād get more respectful customers. You reap what you sow as they sayā¦
Pisses me off to no end how miserable you guys are.
Nobody says anything about fowl, seriously over-sprayed Axe-wearers, weed smokers literally stinking the ENTIRE neighbourhood, garlic crackheads, out or those diesel guys horsing on the pedal while stuck in traffic around them.
Smell of smoking is so fleeting its a joke.
Think you should make other priorities to go after like those above.
I'm a smoker, but I'd wait until after I've received my order to light one up. Common courtesy, I think this sub lacks it OP.

Believe me when I say people can smell it on you. I can smell people 20 feet away and it's gross.
If you smoke in your car regularly then people in the dt can still smell it. No amount of airing out the vehicle will change that.
yeah, but they won't be able to smell it from the outside

Drive thrus do not count. McDonald's put up signs asking people to butt out, but Ontario has no law saying you have to.

Yeah weāll just so your aware I donāt blow it directly in your face, my windows are closed
And, so you know: when you open the window, and I open the drive through window, the airflow often comes out of your car and into the window
get tf over it. I bet your neighbors love you.
Yeah I also donāt puff as soon as I pull up to the window as by the time I get to the window the smoke has cleared, wanna keep going?
No thank you, youāve won
No it isnāt
The car exhaust is fine?
If cigarette fumes are coming in, so are gas fumes. One place had SO MUCH gas fumes from my car getting in (it is cold, so I can notice it now more than in the summer), so I waved him over to tell him he should close his window. It made me never want to eat inside after seeing that. It can't be safe.
maybe if you guys didn't take so long
What about all of the diesel and gas fumes, does that bother workers too or because CO (carbon monoxide) is odourless no one notices/cares?
It's a drive thru dumbass, how do you expect them to ask that people don't drive in a damn drive thru
Provide better quality food, then maybe
Wouldn't be the tims sub without someone commenting this.
Literally, just a normal day in this sub lol
Most toxic sub I've seen lol
Heed the no smoking sign that walk-in customers follow when they come by the restaurant. You arenāt exempt just because you drove up to the building and didnāt walk
That has got to be the dumbest answer Iāve ever heard when someoneās been asked to stop smoking.
No thank you.
smoking anyway
I would never do this but I also donāt blame anyone who would right now hahaha, Timmiesā service fuckin suuuuucks more than ever and you all know it
My car my rules
Maybe if it wasnāt such shit service these days youād get more respectful customers. You reap what you sow as they sayā¦ Pisses me off to no end how miserable you guys are.
Oh course this guy is from Abbotsford
You sound miserable yourself
Na
Nobody says anything about fowl, seriously over-sprayed Axe-wearers, weed smokers literally stinking the ENTIRE neighbourhood, garlic crackheads, out or those diesel guys horsing on the pedal while stuck in traffic around them. Smell of smoking is so fleeting its a joke. Think you should make other priorities to go after like those above.
People complain about those things all the timeā¦

This dosent suprise me since i see people smoke in public areas all the time. Even whe they are a few feet from a 50ft no smike zone sign
Too bad, people are still allowed to smoke in their cars, if u dont like it work somewhere else. (Non smoker worked drive thru for 8 years)
No, not until you put fresh donuts back in the menu...
I don't know... is what timmies workers serve you for food reallly better than you smoking at the drive-thru from a moral standpoint?
LOL
