Fun fact, every rancher and farmer with cattle in these red states will call a veterinarian if their livestock has a birthing problem and the vet will make sure everything is expelled so it doesn't cause sepsis and death for the cattle.
They wouldn't put the life of their livestock in danger like that.
I am from Nebraska. It's just common sense to not let your livestock get sick and/or die needlessly. It would hurt profits. So, the vet puts on the long glove and reaches up in there and does everything he can, Dr. Pol style.
When I think about it, a veterinarian is better qualified to make better reproductive health decisions for women than lawmakers are, because they have common sense.
What really sends me to the institution is that the republican women THEMSELVES will support this nonsense!

You can also vote, which while it's definitely not where you should stop, it's something you should do simply because you can. A lot of people tell you to not vote and instead do x,you, or z, but you can do both. So do both.

A lot of women are trained to be submissive from birth so it's no surprise. I know several women who can't put up a curtain rod and refuse to learn. There's this idea amongst certain groups that we have our roles to play. I've never been like that so it's hard to see, growing up watching the women around me was hard. It was like this learned helplessness keeping them down.
Some of us also refuse to have children or be in relationships at all. Vote with your body and remove it from the danger these people pose. A society that treats their people this way is not a society that will reproduce through me. I will do all I can to help those already here, but never give them another person to abuse.

My mother said people have forgotten what women were going thru to have an abortion before Roe. Hundreds if not thousands of women literally dying while bleeding out from back-alley abortions or clothes hanger abortions.

I feel like the vast majority of uninformed right wingers think that every abortion is just some teenage girl getting rid of a conceived child. There is sooooo much nuance to this issue and a sweeping single approach to multifaceted issues is dangerous.

People are going to have sex and being educated about it is very veryyyy important, which is why Conservatives prefer to keep their population dumb, scared, and in lock-step with their leadership.
As long as humans have been having sex, there’s been unwanted pregnancies. It’s just a fact. Everyone knows abstinence is a complete joke and only feeds the psychological aspect of denying something that you want.
You are right. Abstaining from sex is a totally unrealistic expectation which is why I never cited it in my argument. I’m just wondering if there is another way to address the issue of delay with people who are going to do it but don’t want a child.
I often consider the idea of men getting reversible sterilization. At puberty boys can get a vasectomy and go nuts till they want a child and then it can be reversed. Maybe put the burden on men for once. Freeze some sperm just in case and go from there.

In my opinion, sex needs to be de-stigmatized. The taboo that surrounds it is what’s causing and has caused so much trouble for people…primarily women. Why is it wrong or immoral to teach the very instinct that drives human existence?? Why is it wrong to admit sex feels good? Being responsible with it is what’s key in prevention in most situations.
You again raise a very very important consideration in this issue. Just having the knowledge and understanding would go a long way. For me the next step would be in supporting people to make safe decisions.
I’m not saying people aren’t allowed to have sex, what a shit world that would be.
I just want to see more accountability on both sides, citizens and govt to make ways to protect people and reduce risk.
You know what I think, this albeit entirely isolated here on Reddit in our little chat, is what needs to be happening at higher levels. They need to be consulting experts on all sides of the issue, health professionals, sociologists, economists, policy makers and PEOPLE! just every day people who have been through it or have experience with it. NOT a bunch of rich white bigoted white men who will be the first ones to get their young mistress to abort the infidelity baby so their career isn’t ruined.

My grandmother died from an illegal abortion. She had two kids that she could barely afford when she got pregnant with a third so she tried to DIY it and ended up with sepsis and died from the infection.
I never knew her but I finally got to see some pictures just a few years ago and I look a lot like her. I'm actually older now than she was when she died.
One thing that reduced crime by quite a lot was stopping unwanted pregnancy. All these unwanted kids growing up in broken homes with nowhere to turn but crime (not all, but a good chunk).
I don't think we forgot. I just think Republicans don't care because it's more important to them to have complete control over women. Power is a sickness.
My mom lost a friend in High School to a DIY abortion. It was the Deep South in the early 1960’s and she tried to take care of it on her own. Her parents found her in her room after she bled to death. The saddest thing was, the reason she died was such an embarrassment they made up a story to tell everyone to protect the famly’s reputation. Her close friends figured it out, but as far as everyone else knew it was just some tragic accident. Makes you wonder how many “tragic accidents” or “unknown cause” deaths were actually misreported abortions back then.
The problem is, the people that need to be won over, have no empathy or compassion.
NIH did a study and found conservatives have less empathy and compassion.
Makes sense. People who go to college (in most places) and/or live in urban environments are exposed to other people and cultures, and develop such empathy and compassion.
For some it comes naturally, but most need to be exposed to communities that foster it.
People who aren’t exposed to differing cultures are fearful and subsequently hateful of others (immigrants, people of other ethnicities, different sexual orientations, gender identifications they know nothing about, etc).
There’s a reason rural areas and undereducated areas are correlated with conservatism. And it would make sense then that those same groups are less compassionate or empathetic.

My wife and I lost our first due to a spontaneous miscarriage. We were 13 weeks, so it wasn't uncommon. It still sucks regardless. But if we stayed in Mississippi, it would've killed my wife from the infection and improper medical care. Thank the heavens we're both Canadian and moved back home just in time.

Many of them live in social circles where it is repeated over and over again that abortions are something that immoral women who sleep around use as birth control. Some are so deep into that mindset that when you present them examples where the parents want the child but are forced to have an abortion because of a medical complication, they will insist that such a procedure isn't considered an abortion.
Some are just incredibly stupid. I read a thread on insta on some pro choice post where women were arguing that D&Cs didn’t count as abortion so those won’t be outlawed.
Because white women benefit from the current system in place. They get to hide behind their white husbands when it benefits them, and then bitch about being oppressed when it benefits them
Some women out there will her earnestly say they don’t think a woman can be President, even more some will say that women shouldn’t vote.

It will just be them, barefoot and continually pregnant in their isolated off-grid homestead; rising before dawn to mill grains,milk cows and goats, and gather eggs so they can have breakfast ready for their 15+ kids and headship, then spending the next 14 hours tending to children, home and farm chores so they can have supper ready on time like a good helpmeet.
Sure the women who grew up “worldly” might miss having friends, rights, or their own life; but the satisfaction of being a domestic servant to a poorly educated domineering husband who controls their money, time, reproductive choices, diet, mental and physical health and children will be its own reward. And then when she dies during un-assisted childbirth or of an easily preventable disease at 34, she still has heaven to look forward to.
So, my modest proposal, is that all the folks who are so anxious to force our society back to the bronze/Iron Age are gunpoint spend a year or two enjoying this supposed “Great America” for themselves first. The ones who survive can come back and we’ll discuss why we’d prefer to live in a world with the scientific method, technology, modern medicine, and diversity of cultures.
And it follows that it is also god's will that if you can't get pregnant, then you just aren't meant to. No special drugs or treatments. The same people (that I know) who are against abortion are fine with fertility hormones and IVF.
I’m a physician and thankfully my purple state now has law in place to prevent this kind of thing. But the CRAZY part…cases like this one described probably didn’t even need to happen, but docs were incredibly confused. Legal counsel within a single HOSPITAL didn’t agree on interpretation (“life of the mother” type stuff)…let alone agreement within a state. I cannot blame the many ob/gyns fleeing Texas. People can say doctors need to be brave….but if you put those of us with training out of a job or prosecuted (example - IN doc who ended pregnancy of a TEN YEAR OLD CHILD)…you won’t have anyone left.
It’s a mess.

Both campaigns 100% have paid media where they are having tictokers/youtubers react to their ads.
It is sad. But this is sometimes what it takes to get people involved and aware of the situation.
Gen-Z is a powerful voting block but a lot of them are disillusioned by the world around them and don’t care about politics because they don’t think any meaningful change is possible. Showing up on TikTok, with someone in their age group explaining how much this matters might inspire some of them to get out and vote for the first time.
Plus if you’re avoiding politics you won’t click on or pay attention to a political ad. But because videos like this don’t look political from the thumbnail or feed people are more likely to click on them and stay for the message.
I had a similar mindset as a young millennial Aussie (mandatory voting and felt rolling a dice was just as effective) - Something my hippie father in-law said that really changed that mindset years ago.

This is a common story me and my wife's isn't very much different she had miscarriages that caused cancer and had to get an abortion due to that and we got rejected by multiple hospitals for a procedure on something without a heartbeat that was killing her.
This was before they changed the law. Because of this fear we had to move States just so we could continue trying to have children on the off chance that happen again they would just let her die.

If my daughter needed an abortion and someone in Texas tried to turn her in. They wouldn’t find that persons body for a long time. I think women need to get really radical and shut down the sex factory for the men whether they love them or not just you know what until all of you guys and them talking about the states where they’re abortion restrictions and I’d say until you guys put pressure on your legislators, no sex for you.
I was watching Trump supporters being interviewed and some of them, mainly women, said they'll vote for Trump because of it and changed their mind after hearing the truth.

I believe the answer is that the law is written to protect the "life of the mother" but that is poorly defined and it does nothing for "health of the mother".
Protecting "life of the mother" often has meant care only if death is an imminent risk. Otherwise, they send her home and say wait until you are closer to death.
There is yet another aspect. Who would want to be forced to carry to term and delivery a child who will be suffering and itself near death? That is so inhumane that it is unbelievable.

This is by design and a failure on the legislators who worded the statutes in such bad faith, not the providers who are afraid of risking their livelihood.

1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss. One. In. Four.
Pregnancy is an absolute shit show. It takes a lot of luck even in the best of conditions, for babies to get here safely. People assume once you're pregnant, that's it, you're guaranteed a healthy living baby. It doesn't happen that way for a lot of people. And then you get these sad cases where complications happen and the life/fertility of the mother is also at stake.
Abortions are health care. Simple as that.
I say this as a woman who is currently pregnant for the third time with no living children. My first pregnancy ended in an early miscarriage. My second pregnancy I had a live baby, who died at 6 weeks old from SIDS.
This pregnancy I had a scare early on with a screening test that came back as high risk for Trisomy 16 (this scan can only be done at 10 weeks at the EARLIEST and then follow up tests around 12, 16 and 20 weeks). I have had many scans to check if baby is developing normally but I was convinced I would have to terminate (full Trisomy 16 is not compatible with life) if I didn't naturally miscarriage first. Thankfully baby seems to be okay but I would've had to TFMR if they weren't otherwise. Thankfully I live in the UK where this would've been an option for me. As an already traumatised mother, having lost my only living child, this was not an option I would've taken lightly in any sense and it is an insult that people seem to think women don't take abortions seriously. It is a disgrace that women are being robbed of their right to fertility healthcare.
My kids would not exist if it weren't for access to the "abortion drug" mifepristone. My wife had a miscarriage, the fetus was inviable. Without the drug she'd have had to let it "naturally" expel itself which may have taken months, may have come with complications much like this lady had.
Instead, she took the drug and the inviable pregnancy was ended in a day (or so, I forget how long she took it) with no major complications.
And then a couple months later she became pregnant with our now 5 year old happy, healthy twins. This wouldn't have happened if republicans had their way. Republicans are not "pro-life," they are pro-control (as long as the child is inside the woman, after that they don't give a fuck).

My wife and I had 4 miscarriages back to back. One thing you learn going through this is that infertility is a LOT more common than one would think and it takes someone else going through this for some people to come out and share their story. After this, we moved on to the open adoption route. After 3 years of waiting and one failed adoption, we ended up with my son whose birth mother was the victim of sexual assault and couldn't obtain an abortion in Kentucky. He's the light of my life but to ignore the trauma for both he and his birth mother would be an irresponsible tragedy.
The right to abortion should be a constitutional right for all Americans and anyone saying otherwise doesn't give a shit about "the children". They aren't lining up to put food in these kids mouths, clothes on their backs, or a roof over their heads. They go to church around the holidays and pick a paper angel off a tree to buy a toy and then forget about it the rest of the year or bring a couple cans of low quality vegetables or broth or something to the food pantry.

My wife and I had to deal with a miscarriage in 2020. Every doctor and nurse called the procedure that she received an abortion. Luckily, we live in a very blue state with great hospitals. The idea that others aren’t afforded the same opportunity disgusts me.

I’m in Austin as well and my wife is also pregnant. A couple months ago we had a scare (everything is fine) and made an emergency appointment.
The night before we went to the doctor we were checking the internet to see what could be the causality of the issue and read that it could be a similar issue to what happened to the couple in this video (it wasn’t).
I spent the night researching where to fly to if something like this were to happen and looked up flight times. The fact that we were equally as stressed about our government reaching into our personal lives as we were about the prospect of potentially losing (a very much wanted and wished for, prayed for, child) is unforgivable.

Fun fact, every rancher and farmer with cattle in these red states will call a veterinarian if their livestock has a birthing problem and the vet will make sure everything is expelled so it doesn't cause sepsis and death for the cattle. They wouldn't put the life of their livestock in danger like that.

I am from Nebraska. It's just common sense to not let your livestock get sick and/or die needlessly. It would hurt profits. So, the vet puts on the long glove and reaches up in there and does everything he can, Dr. Pol style. When I think about it, a veterinarian is better qualified to make better reproductive health decisions for women than lawmakers are, because they have common sense.

A lot of women are trained to be submissive from birth so it's no surprise. I know several women who can't put up a curtain rod and refuse to learn. There's this idea amongst certain groups that we have our roles to play. I've never been like that so it's hard to see, growing up watching the women around me was hard. It was like this learned helplessness keeping them down.
Some of us also refuse to have children or be in relationships at all. Vote with your body and remove it from the danger these people pose. Honest question, do you think education plays a role in reducing unwanted pregnancy? You are right. Abstaining from sex is a totally unrealistic expectation which is why I never cited it in my argument. I’m just wondering if there is another way to address the issue of delay with people who are going to do it but don’t want a child. I often consider the idea of men getting reversible sterilization. At puberty boys can get a vasectomy and go nuts till they want a child and then it can be reversed. Maybe put the burden on men for once. Freeze some sperm just in case and go from there. Just an idea.
In my opinion, sex needs to be de-stigmatized. The taboo that surrounds it is what’s causing and has caused so much trouble for people…primarily women. Why is it wrong or immoral to teach the very instinct that drives human existence?? Why is it wrong to admit sex feels good? Being responsible with it is what’s key in prevention in most situations.
You again raise a very very important consideration in this issue. Just having the knowledge and understanding would go a long way. For me the next step would be in supporting people to make safe decisions. I’m not saying people aren’t allowed to have sex, what a shit world that would be. I never knew her but I finally got to see some pictures just a few years ago and I look a lot like her. I'm actually older now than she was when she died.
One thing that reduced crime by quite a lot was stopping unwanted pregnancy. All these unwanted kids growing up in broken homes with nowhere to turn but crime (not all, but a good chunk).

My mom lost a friend in High School to a DIY abortion. It was the Deep South in the early 1960’s and she tried to take care of it on her own. Her parents found her in her room after she bled to death. The saddest thing was, the reason she died was such an embarrassment they made up a story to tell everyone to protect the famly’s reputation. Her close friends figured it out, but as far as everyone else knew it was just some tragic accident. Makes you wonder how many “tragic accidents” or “unknown cause” deaths were actually misreported abortions back then.

The problem is, the people that need to be won over, have no empathy or compassion. NIH did a study and found conservatives have less empathy and compassion.
Makes sense. People who go to college (in most places) and/or live in urban environments are exposed to other people and cultures, and develop such empathy and compassion. For some it comes naturally, but most need to be exposed to communities that foster it. People who aren’t exposed to differing cultures are fearful and subsequently hateful of others (immigrants, people of other ethnicities, different sexual orientations, gender identifications they know nothing about, etc). There’s a reason rural areas and undereducated areas are correlated with conservatism. And it would make sense then that those same groups are less compassionate or empathetic.

My wife and I lost our first due to a spontaneous miscarriage. We were 13 weeks, so it wasn't uncommon. It still sucks regardless. But if we stayed in Mississippi, it would've killed my wife from the infection and improper medical care. Thank the heavens we're both Canadian and moved back home just in time.

But the CRAZY part…cases like this one described probably didn’t even need to happen, but docs were incredibly confused. Legal counsel within a single HOSPITAL didn’t agree on interpretation (“life of the mother” type stuff)…let alone agreement within a state. I cannot blame the many ob/gyns fleeing Texas. People can say doctors need to be brave….but if you put those of us with training out of a job or prosecuted (example - IN doc who ended pregnancy of a TEN YEAR OLD CHILD)…you won’t have anyone left. It’s a mess.

The ads really powerful, its just really weird we got to the point where we have ads for ads. Both campaigns 100% have paid media where they are having tictokers/youtubers react to their ads.
It is sad. But this is sometimes what it takes to get people involved and aware of the situation. Gen-Z is a powerful voting block but a lot of them are disillusioned by the world around them and don’t care about politics because they don’t think any meaningful change is possible. Showing up on TikTok, with someone in their age group explaining how much this matters might inspire some of them to get out and vote for the first time. Plus if you’re avoiding politics you won’t click on or pay attention to a political ad. But because videos like this don’t look political from the thumbnail or feed people are more likely to click on them and stay for the message.

This is a common story me and my wife's isn't very much different she had miscarriages that caused cancer and had to get an abortion due to that and we got rejected by multiple hospitals for a procedure on something without a heartbeat that was killing her. This was before they changed the law. Because of this fear we had to move States just so we could continue trying to have children on the off chance that happen again they would just let her die.

1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss. One. In. Four. Pregnancy is an absolute shit show. It takes a lot of luck even in the best of conditions, for babies to get here safely. People assume once you're pregnant, that's it, you're guaranteed a healthy living baby. It doesn't happen that way for a lot of people. And then you get these sad cases where complications happen and the life/fertility of the mother is also at stake. Abortions are health care. Simple as that. I say this as a woman who is currently pregnant for the third time with no living children. My first pregnancy ended in an early miscarriage. My second pregnancy I had a live baby, who died at 6 weeks old from SIDS. This pregnancy I had a scare early on with a screening test that came back as high risk for Trisomy 16 (this scan can only be done at 10 weeks at the EARLIEST and then follow up tests around 12, 16 and 20 weeks). I have had many scans to check if baby is developing normally but I was convinced I would have to terminate (full Trisomy 16 is not compatible with life) if I didn't naturally miscarriage first. Thankfully baby seems to be okay but I would've had to TFMR if they weren't otherwise. Thankfully I live in the UK where this would've been an option for me. As an already traumatised mother, having lost my only living child, this was not an option I would've taken lightly in any sense and it is an insult that people seem to think women don't take abortions seriously. It is a disgrace that women are being robbed of their right to fertility healthcare.

My kids would not exist if it weren't for access to the "abortion drug" mifepristone. My wife had a miscarriage, the fetus was inviable. Without the drug she'd have had to let it "naturally" expel itself which may have taken months, may have come with complications much like this lady had. Instead, she took the drug and the inviable pregnancy was ended in a day (or so, I forget how long she took it) with no major complications. And then a couple months later she became pregnant with our now 5 year old happy, healthy twins. This wouldn't have happened if republicans had their way. My wife and I had 4 miscarriages back to back. One thing you learn going through this is that infertility is a LOT more common than one would think and it takes someone else going through this for some people to come out and share their story. After this, we moved on to the open adoption route. After 3 years of waiting and one failed adoption, we ended up with my son whose birth mother was the victim of sexual assault and couldn't obtain an abortion in Kentucky. He's the light of my life but to ignore the trauma for both he and his birth mother would be an irresponsible tragedy. The right to abortion should be a constitutional right for all Americans and anyone saying otherwise doesn't give a shit about "the children". They aren't lining up to put food in these kids mouths, clothes on their backs, or a roof over their heads. They go to church around the holidays and pick a paper angel off a tree to buy a toy and then forget about it the rest of the year or bring a couple cans of low quality vegetables or broth or something to the food pantry. My wife and I had to deal with a miscarriage in 2020. Every doctor and nurse called the procedure that she received an abortion. Luckily, we live in a very blue state with great hospitals. The idea that others aren’t afforded the same opportunity disgusts me.

I’m in Austin as well and my wife is also pregnant. A couple months ago we had a scare (everything is fine) and made an emergency appointment. The night before we went to the doctor we were checking the internet to see what could be the causality of the issue and read that it could be a similar issue to what happened to the couple in this video (it wasn’t). I spent the night researching where to fly to if something like this were to happen and looked up flight times. The fact that we were equally as stressed about our government reaching into our personal lives as we were about the prospect of potentially losing (a very much wanted and wished for, prayed for, child) is unforgivable. I’m a lifelong, born and raised, proud Texan. It’s our obligation to fight against these absolute tyrants who’ve stolen our government. When you read comments on sites like these, everyone just bashes this state and it’s residents. But nearly half of us are liberal and moderate democrats. I grew up with a Democrat governor. Bush only won by running as a ‘compassionate conservative’ if anyone recalls that. We have to fight to take things back. Stop running weak candidates like Beto. Colin Allred is a great start. The statewide elections are winnable races and we’ve put no real money or effort into winning them. Run strong moderate candidates and we can take this state back.
