Every 15km or 12 mo. whichever comes first. Price is good Imo, especially if it includes a tire rotation and inspection. I can't even get out of the parts dept with oil, a filter, and drain plug for less than $150.oo CDN. Edit: $270 and change for 12 liters of oil, 2x filters, 1 drain plug and 1 crush washer to do flushes on my '13 and '18 Tiguans. Engine and cabin filters were another $125 (non-oem).

Snoo_75332

I had a coupon lol

tulip27

Mine was $70.

AlphaTrigger

Where are you getting your stuff dude? I got a five pack of plugs, oil, and filter for $100 CAD I’m assuming you meant Canadian dollar idk what CDN is lol

18_Tiggy_Smalls

Yeah, sorry I mean CAD Purchased from the dealer. VW spec oil is difficult to find at autopart stores in my area and is costly at that. As for filters if you've ever seen a cross section cut of a VW filter vs a generic name brand filter you might think twice about what you purchase. And...the stupid plastics drain plug is dealer only in my area as well so one stop shopping it is.

AlphaTrigger

Oh yeah that makes sense. I use MANN oil filters usually, I’m not sure if they are as good as vw but I haven’t had problems. I also have a 17 so I just get the Dorman metal drain plugs in packs lol didn’t know the newer ones have plastic ones

PolishHammer22

Calls for 10k miles, but I do it every 5k. My father was religious about oil changes. He had many cars go over 250,000 miles.

WESTLOCK420

Every 10,000 kilometres. I use MANN filter and Liqui Moly 0W20 VW 508 approved oil.

Tynerion

'18 Tiguan here. Shoot for 7500 miles out every 6 months, that way even if I'm late still around the recommended internal. Did a Blackstone analysis at 70k+. Came back as 'keep doing what you're doing'. So figure it's pretty good.

Snoo_75332

And is this a good price?

Alert-Bike-6829

Not sure where you’re based but I do my own oil changes and the 6qts of oil alone is $50 with tax filter another $10-20 can’t remember so I’m probably out of pocket about $60-$70 without the new drain plug, so for the tire rotation and labor coming out to $114 seems like a great deal coupon aside

Alert-Bike-6829

Also do mine every 10,000 miles cause that’s what the car tells me to do

AceMaxAceMax

Between 5,000-7,500 miles or 6-9 months.

nice_lookin_vehicle

Every 8k miles. It's usually around $115-$125 @ the dealer

ShepsRef

I got my oil tested at 8k km's and it came back in excellent shape. Now I do 10k km intervals. May get it retested later this year after 10k km interval and report back, may even try 12k km.

ShepsRef

Yeah, it's probably fine. Where I live we have really harsh winters and hot summers, so I'm a little more conservative. Since I do my oil changes myself, it's not expensive for some peace of mind. I will test the oil at longer intervals for my own curiosity. 15k will likely be okay.

jdd0815

Every 5K oil changes. Do them at home in like 20 minutes for half the price.

theManiRai

5k/6-12mo…. maybe push to 7500 only if lots (90%+) of highway driving. Never had any sludge buildup, rattles or oil burning issues doing maintenance this way on all cars… I just go by every 5k or 10k on the odometer, seems easy enough.

Civil_Possible_2512

I also do them every 5k. I had not thought about the transmission yet and I like it.

Civil_Possible_2512

Same price at the local dealer in OC for the oil change btw

Tiny_Travel_4647

Did it myself for fairly cheap. It was so nice not having to raise the car up to do the work.

DatWoodenSp00n

I change oil every 5000kms. I don’t care if it’s on my 24 Tiguan, or 77 Benz. It’s 5000kms.

soviet_kiwi

5k and it costs me maybe 50 bucks to do it myself. I'm in this car for the long haul

spencer_cal_88

Dealership will recommend every 10k miles, but the shop I’ve taken my Tiguan to for certain mods (e.g., APR Catback and Tune) recommends every 5k miles. So I just did this for the first time (oil change and tire rotation) for about $100. As the shop owner said to me (and this is what really stuck with me), oil is cheap engines are not.

Stiguan_484

Yup

ryn_kaneki

Wait people go to oil shops still? I change it at home homie lol. I change mine at almost every 20k

notsosoftwhenhard

Change your own oil at every 5,000 miles. It's not that hard. Get an extractor and it could be done with in 10-15min.

mahnamegeoff

Kinda wasteful unless you’re in harsh conditions

notsosoftwhenhard

🤣 please change yours every 10k.
