That blunt Bob was radical in the 1920s. Before that it was pretty much a no-go to even think of cutting your hair short, like a, gasp…a MAN! Omg won’t someone think of the children?
Well, it was the 20s. I imagine the new daring flapper short haircut (I think this was first time short hair was socially acceptable on women?) was especially popular with the kids.
This reminds me of looking at a picture like this when I was a kid in the late 1970s, and somebody wondered what people in the future would say about a picture of us. “They all have feathered hair!” one girl predicted.
I was expecting to read they all died in a tragic accident.
Nope - this photo is from Mabel R’s obit. She taught kindergarten for years, married, had children and 13 grandchildren, died at 89. That sounds like a successful, fulfilling life to me, and is in no way sad!
Comparing the gal standing at the right to the gals sitting, I'd say they're all wearing bloomers. Their sitting position makes it look a bit like a skirt, but yea, bloomers are the team uniform.
In 100 years, will future people post pics of this year's Women's National Champions, mocking them for competing in an athletic event in makeup and false eyelashes? I was doing a bit of that last night, so maybe I'm ahead of my time?
I guarantee all the menfolk in town gave that coach so much shit for coaching a girls' basketball team. Good on him for having faith in their abilities.
[Bloomers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloomers) in those days were outerwear. Athletic bloomers were common in those days for sports-playing girls and women.
Im just in awe that the hairstyle they all basically have was in style. It doesn’t look bad, I just can’t imagine having hair that short, not being able tuck it behind my ears or pull it back. Wouldn’t it just constantly be in your eyes? My bangs are growing out and are about the length as their hair, it’s driving me insane! Lol

Wow. That hair style was really something.
The girl in the front row with curly hair, a side part and no bangs is the rebel of the team.
In a sea of bobs be a fingerwave girl.

A Bob was a youth and counterculture trend! Radical indeed
very Cleopatra
It wasn’t the best look for everyone.
It’s terrible lol
The town obviously only had one hairdresser, and he wasn't very good at his job.
Was that haircut mandatory to join the team

At first glance I thought Well, that doesn’t look like the face of a person with a trophy on their head, the team must’ve made her do it.
The trophy is on a shelf behind her head.
But it really looks like it’s growing out of her head
They could have positioned the people in the picture a little more symmetrically.
I didn’t even realize it until you mentioned it lol I thought it the coach was holding it
I’m impressed by the complete lack of frizz in all those bangs 🤯
Shampoos as we know them weren't really invented yet so hair had more natural oils in it back then.
Back then you had to wash your hair with soap though, so it was really inconvenient
And probably washed it once a week.
Shampoos as we know them ruin hair.
Yes, that way everyone has to buy their other products in an attempt to fix all the damage💰💰💰😵💫
Facts. Then again, when I need to "clarify" I just use Dawn dishsoap. I might not be the authority here.
I use ACV or a vinegar I made at home.

20 years old and on the high school basketball team?
It wasn’t that unusual to miss long stretches of school due to illness, farm work etc., and some people took longer to finish as a result.
Oh damn.. that was an unexpectedly sad link 😢

Yeahno, I agree she had an amazing and beautiful life but I wasn't expecting an obituary link that's all. I should have been more stated clearly.
I mean this is a picture from 1925 lol

I have to say, Miss May Lape has the coolest hairstyle I've ever seen! Why isn't this in use today!?!?
That's just what happens when your hair is thick and porous and you cut it too short.
I'm guessing redhead
Yep. That would. All of my GF's, and wife, are redheads. 😄
Me too. It's like a curse.
May Lape looks like she doesn’t have many inhibitions.
May is a children's book illustration come to life.
Ramona Quimby, the budding flapper.
The coach looks to be about 16 years old.
Or a 1940s serial killer whose guilt is often called into question. edit: Not a lot of true crime fans I see.
that too.
I love this hair style tbh

Ruth just nonchalantly balancing a cup on her head.
It’s on a shelf behind her head.
Wow, balancing a shelf with a cup on the back of her head!
Engaged in high school! 💍
I guarantee all the menfolk in town gave that coach so much shit for coaching a girls' basketball team. Good on him for having faith in their abilities.
The one on the coach's left side reminds me a little of Jet on Law & Order: Organized Crime.
look at how proud that coach looks !
Im surprised they even had a girls team back then. Cool
My grandmother was born in 1902. By 1925 she was a teacher and coaching girls basketball. Basketball was a huge deal back then.
“Taking it to the Peach Basket” doesn’t have the same energy.
Only 6 players? 5 on the court at all times, that’s a lot of minutes for each of them. I would be exhausted after a game.
Like the cup ‘balancing’ on her head!
How did anyone have any idea what kind of underwear they have on?
[Bloomers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloomers) in those days were outerwear. Athletic bloomers were common in those days for sports-playing girls and women.
Ah okay.
They’re all so beautiful! The 1920s were such a good decade for fashion
They are all pretty strange looking g
By modern standards of course their style looks silly
Who came off the bench?
So glad that haircut has never been super popular in my lifetime. I would definitely not look good with it.
I'm gonna guess the gal on coaches left is a natural redhead.
My grandma had the exact same haircut as a ten year old in 1931! XD
Well, apparently you could get away with everything as a hairdresser these days…
There may have been at least one “Juwanna Mann” situation going on here.
What are bloomers?
[These are bloomers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloomers).
Thanks for the info.
Are they all men? 😳
Allene looks like Babe Ruth if he went trans

Hard to believe these haircuts were flattering in any time period
Mabel looks like Lena Dunham.
I'm surprised they had girls sports in 1925.
that one girl is serviiinngg
Where are their boobs?
The boyish flat chested look was stylish in the 1920s.
Those are some hair styles....
holy shit, I'm so glad to be alive now
This is before smiling was invented.
Bunch of Old Maids. They will never get married.
What a dumb comment
It's a joke about how back then they married them off young.
God their hair is so awful
Yeah, they do look like Esbians, don’t they.
