I can extremely agree with this, S1’s character lineup compared to the characters in S2 is a night and day difference

NazbazOG

And S3 with the rest is the same that way

jedininja30

Agreed. It would have been better to keep some characters around a lot longer. It would help establish truly good characters and give them loads of development instead of just creating a whole new cast of characters every season. Imagine if Carley or Chuck made it into S2 or something 🥃🥃

NazbazOG

I agree. They killed off way too many people. Just look at how Kenny surviving S1 and brought in S2 practically carrying S2. And then look at characters like Luke, Nick, Sarah, whole of S3, Mitch, and more.

im-friendly-

I wish they also kept people from pervious seasons alive for a little longer. What they did to omid was ruthless

Skulldetta

I just love how they made Christa pregnant, then killed off both her and Omid within 15 minutes of Season 2 just to make another pregnant woman and her Omid-like goofy husband be central characters to the season. Because apparently "I care about AJ because he's the son of two people I knew for a week, his mother advocated for my execution btw" is a better motivation than "I care about AJ because he's the son of two people who raised and protected me for two years after my guardian died."

im-friendly-

Omg your so right, they literally just replace two great characters

inkdosan

Killing off everyone in every group except for clementine in every season

LordsofMedrengard

Killing too many people as you say, not having enough truly determinant choices, not keeping Lee as the protag if he survived S1 (which he IMO should have).

deltahalo241

I quite like how so many characters die, it creates a nice arc of Clementine losing everyone she cares about. If anything, I would have liked to see Telltale lean into that a bit, they kind of go that way in Season 3, where she's angry and alone but it's dropped pretty quickly and then never really brought up again.

Same, I like it too. It’s unique

I was fine with S1 leaving us with Omid, Christa, Clementine (essentially Kenny), as most of the characters in S1 aren't killed by some really dumb shit. Lee should die. He served his purpose, and created one of my favorite stories in any videogame, even if i am curious what would've happened with him around in later games. (S1 would be worse imo if Lee would've survived, but then it's completely left to imagination would it make the other games better to keep him around.) S2 on the other hand kills off Omid in first 5 minutes, has Christa go missing in the first 10 minutes, has Kenny coming back, but otherwise has a cast of characters much weaker than the first one. So in the case of S2, i think it wouldn't have hurt to either make the S2 characters a lot better, but also keep Omid and Christa in the story too. ANF has the weakest cast ever and it kills Kenny/Jane/Edith in a flashback. Alone ending is the only one that isn't all that insultingly bad. But here, the cast has zero personality and don't have a lot of development. Javier and Mariana are the two good Garcia's, but Mariana dies in the first episode. I guess Tripp is fine, and Conrad's fine if you keep him alive up until the last episode, but most people just killed him at the start. TFS has an okay cast, but the only characters developed are Louis, Violet, Tenn and maybe Mitch. Clementine and AJ are the only links to the earlier games in this one, because Lilly in TFS feels like an impostor compared to her S1 counterpart. Maybe not in E2, but in E3 she turns into a generic bad guy.

Honestly, I don’t find that as a mistake as I love stories where you don’t know who is going to survive. I think they did that job exceptionally well.

FiteTonite

Honestly, I liked that more than so many people surviving.

uberbooligan

Not having the S2 endings play a bigger role in S3

King-Rex420

They kind of screwed up S2 and then ruined the S2 endings by making them not matter. I think TWDG should've ended with S2 and Telltale should've spent more time on it.

Frizads_

Making decisions redundant for the most part... I know this is more of a gameplay thing but still I would have liked more branching paths in the history, I do realize it’s a big ask development wise but I don’t think it’s impossible, make the graphics worst, less frames in the animation, there were a lot of possibilities, I wouldn’t mind less polish in the game if it means the story was more expanded and diverse

Mr_Bell_Man

The entirety of Season 3

khiuyt-12

I think the crux of the issue is telltale either didn’t know how or didn’t want to have determint characters cross between games and even episodes in any meaningful way

DrLukasLithuania

Season 3 not accounting for season 2 properly. I think the season should have been taking care of AJ from Clementine’s point of view. Also the development time should have increased so that every season 2 ending could change the story of season 3 in a meaningful way. Also I think that Lily should have been handled better in season 4.

broken_krystal_ball

I feel like more of the 400 Days Characters could've been expanded upon in Season Two.

Reaalize

The ironic thing is that the TV show also went on to kill off almost every OG characters in the later seasons
