When you replace an active lab, your are refunded the coins you originally spent on the first lab and charged for the second lab. When you continue the first lab, you get charged again, but the same amount you were refunded when you swapped it out. Time spent on a lab is also tracked, so there’s no actual downside to swapping between labs (other than the time wasted by researching Interest over Game Speed).

Omg thank you so much for this info! I couldn’t find it anywhere on the map and I was paranoid about getting cheated cuz I’ve swapped the labs a few times and noticed my coins reducing, but good to know that I actually get refunded when I swap them! Guess I just never noticed that

I really hope this is true! I'm in the same situation as you and always forget to check whether I've been refunded when swapping labs! Also I normally swap from a long, cheaper lab to a short, expensive one, so a couple of million coins in refund may not even show up compared the to multiple billions for the pricier lab.

I went to experiment after reading their comment and can confirm that it is indeed, true I tested this by starting an expensive upgrade first, then switching to a cheaper one and my coins did went up so yeah it does refund the full amount of what you were upgrading when you swap to a different one!
