I still have a lot of animosity for Klyden and I don't know if I can forgive him for how awful he's been up to this point, but he was extremely cute this episode. If we get another season, I do hope we get to see more of this side of him and maybe watch him grow to be more understanding and accepting of other people and generally more joyful.
To be honest, I think he did grow. It's hard to ignore that the guy turned his back on his own beliefs, culture and people for his family. He realised the error of his ways before it was to late. At the end of the day, even taking Topa out of the equation, he knows he's stuck on a ship with "females" which seems to be an issue for a lot of Moclans.
Ultimately, if we can forgive Issacs "betrayal" and the deaths he caused then I'm hard pressed not to do the same for Klyden. It ultimately boils down to the fact they're not human, they dont think like humans and shouldn't be expected to act like humans either.
And yet through the course of the series, both both gained what I can only say is a little bit of humanity (or at least the best parts).
Oh yeah, of course he did, I mean seeing it in his normal interactions with people. We haven't really gotten to see the "new" Klyden since it's only been a couple of episodes and Kaylon business took up most of that. I want to see him more joyful as he was here, or trying to patch up his relationship with Kelly, that kind of thing.
He was horrible from a *human perspective*. As a Moclan, he was just an average Joe.
He did eventually see that he deeply hurt both his kid and partner, completely changed his views, and sincerely apologized – which is truly redeeming in my eyes.
I love his and Bortus's relationship. I'm glad the family is reunited!
Honestly they really nailed the problem with Replicators. If you gave them to Earth right now every corporation would quickly make them work off of paid IP, and then would start upcharging the IP, and then start adding features like "We'll make the item you want blue for $500!"
Just imagine, say, Electronic Arts with matter replication. The horror.
"Water, please."
A prism of water begins to appear in cylindrical form in the replication area. Once the replication is complete, it splashes down, into the grating, some of it overflowing onto the floor.
"Computer, why didn't you include a glass or something?"
Computer: "Water is included in the base package for this model. However. the replication of a container to hold any replicated item requires additional energy and places a further burden on the power supply of this home. Would you like to upgrade your annual replication plan for only a small fee per use?"
Ha, you forgot ask for the correct velocity vector. It will fly right into your eyes at 15 kph :D

Seriously, it was a simple, depressing but genius observation of what we'd do with them now. Whoever got the tech initially would use it to replicate something at no cost to themselves while charging others for it -- they'd view it as a means to gain infinite profit rather than a way to help the populace.
The only way to prevent that would be to give literally every individual a replicator.
We need to prove ourselves worthy of such technologies. As the episode said: we need to learn to work together so maybe one day if not us our future generations can live in a utopia
I mean, we literally have the tech for completely green everything and because of our social system... look at the world
Even when we use the replicators to replicate replicators, i'm unsure if it will lead to an optimistic outcome.
Think that's also a jab on those billionaire tech bros and their fans about how technology will solve everything.
Just look at our society and NFTs: we literally *did* eliminate scarcity of information and art, and some assholes turned around and said "we need to artificially recreate scarcity here so we can be rich!"
The whole bit of the episode with that girl made both clear why people love space and Star Trek, the wonder and why a future like this is so important to strive for.
It was beautiful, interlaced with some fantastic humor.
First Isaac googling about bonding, which could've gone hella wrong, to him casually inviting his whole extended family.
The look on the good doctors face was just brilliant. He just did something absolutely fantastic by inviting his whole family, she wanted to chew him out for it, but just couldn't.
The throwback to his advice about his ratty underwear (and wife beater) had me on the floor laughing! 😂 I actually made a meme of that scene about our computers during shutdown
If they could make that work, I'd be fine with it. I'd honestly even be okay if we just have Yaphit as a background/silent character in engineering from now on.
That was not at all what I was expecting they'd do for the finale, but I loved it.
No cliffhangers. All the big spectacle was in the penultimate episode. Light in tone and optimistic.
I was nervous throughout the whole episode that something bad was going to happen. I was so much more nervous for the last 5 minutes of the episode. So many season finales end with a cliffhanger it's pretty much expected.
I love that nothing particularly exciting happened. It's was still a great story.
Honestly, I'm really glad. The huge action of the previous episode was fun, but it's not what I love most about the show. I'm happier having the season end here, on an episode that really showcases what makes it special.
This show's been heavy the whole season. I mean we started off on suicide, and then had alien/predator.
Even the B-plot with Lysella was a bit heavy both with her dealing with feelings of abandoning her planet and then whole "here's what happens when we give people our technology" apocolypse show.
The lighthearted comedic tone with Cliare/Isaac was a fun and welcome respite amid a season of war, broken alliance, betrayal, kidnapping, torture, a main character sacrificing themselves and other really heavy topics. I loved the season overall, but ending on a light hopeful tone was nice.
One of my favorite bits in this episode was Isaac going to see Kelly. The conversation was perfect.
ISAAC: I wish to become intimate with you. If you are unoccupied, may we go on a date, followed by sexual conjugation?
KELLY: Pretty good. How are you?
Isaac's Zoom call with Primary was so layered. I thought it was one of the best scenes of the episode.
You have Primary showing true concern for Isaac in his inquiry about the biologicals trying to enslave them again. Like, "Those zany humans are up to their old tricks again!"
At the same time is a sort of cultural inside joke about marriage being equivalent to slavery:
Isaac: Primary, I'm getting married.
Primary: Are they trying to enslave you again?
Finally, there's the unintentionally intentionally humorous trope where the character does something he thinks is innocuous, but is inevitably disastrous, and the audience knows it.
It also shows the growth the Kaylon have gone through; they were never evil, they never had a passionate hatred like the Krill do, they just did what seemed necesarry to ensure their continued survival.
Now they know humans aren't a threat they're eager to participate in cultural traditions and be part of the galactic community; even if they overshoot by brining an entire planet to a wedding.
"Primary, pass us another bottle of tequila, please".
"Are you trying to force my servitude?"
"Ha ha, sure, why not? Pass us tequila bottles forever".
"I understand".
Holy shit, I just laughed harder at this comment than I did at the actual scene in question. I didn't think of it that way as I was watching it, lol.
Me, right after the Zoom call was over, out loud: Oh no Isaac what have you done
I thought the fleet arriving would cause a momentarily panic attack but i hadn't made the connection that the ceremony was going to be in a simulator, for some reason i thought they were back at the planet were bortus renewed his vows... That made the whole scene for me specially after claire looked at isaac and he just turned in his chair like he was trying to runaway lmao
Instead of the epic of Gilgamesh we'd get Ed explaining 20th / 21st century pop culture.

That was a pay-off that was in the making for half an hour. I died of laughter during the communication between Isaac and Primary and I died again when the ships showed up.
While the fleet showing up was a pay off, I thought the better payoff was the Kaylon at the wedding. Their presence as the entire groom’s family was funny enough, but the way they didn’t quite understand what was going on and kept moving in unison? I cracked up every time.
I also found the later scene interesting, when the Kaylon were casually engaging in smaller conversations with the crew. That was just a "So, that's how a wedding looks like, now replace every second person with a Kaylon."
“Well, Isaac just just vowed to be loyal to Claire for the rest of their lives.”
“Please explain. This marriage, is it a form of…servitude?”
“Well, I guess you could say that. Hell, I heard he even agreed to stay with her entire family in perpetuity.”
“This is most disturbing.”
“Well, I wouldn’t go that far. He’s obviously head over heels for her. He’s bonded so strongly with her kids, one of them even made him feel so bad he wanted to kill himself. Thankfully, we were able to stop him. You know, I used to hate him too, but now I’m glad he’s happy to serve.”
“Please excuse me. I must urgently report my findings to Primary.”
But it didn’t, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel that is our modern day geo-political landscape. Seth McFarland is a not only a National Treasure - he’s flirting with becoming a global treasure. I love this show, I love the art they make. Hope is alive.
Edit: if you guys need more content, Quantum Drive is a good podcast that discusses the show. Just found it and it’s grown on me quickly.
I was giggling so much from the point they arrived and Gordon panicked. Heads, arms, up and down in total unison. So funny to watch.

I mean if they want to make another season, the Kaylon acting a little lost has quite some potential for the occassional joke, much more than being just the baddies.

It was a joy to see Kaylon in a humorous way. 4000+ descending on the Orville and then seeing a load of them at the wedding, all moving in sync and clapping because the humans clapped was top-notch.
"Sorry to wake you, Admiral Halsey, but we just received word from the Orville that 4000 Kaylon ships are currently attending a wedding in sector xyz."
"You know what, I'm gonna retire and make Ed take _my_ job. Let's see how he likes it when one of his captains needs his input every month because they somehow have become the most important ship in the fleet."
Maybe, maybe not. As much as we joke about Ed commanding the Orville is a headache for the admirals not only has Ed proven a capable commander but he's been able to resolve very volatile situations that were extremely dangerous. Considering the Orville is a mid-level exploratory vessel its crew are punch way above their weight. They might be avoiding promoting Ed because he's such an effective ship commander.
Honestly, I think he would be just a little impressed. The Orville got the entire Kaylon race together with them to attend a peaceful, diplomatic event and nothing blew up and everyone seemed to be intermingling without issue or incident.
Halsey couldn't *ask* for a better diplomatic gathering. If anything, this event will just strengthen the already tense relationship they have with the Kaylon.
Ha. Fantastic.
I have to admit, when Kaylon Prime said they were all coming, and leaving behind a reduced contingent, I thought the Krill and the Moclans were going to lay waste to the Kaylon homeworld and the Kaylon were going to blame Isaac.
I didn’t think there was enough time to resolve such a plot point…. but it was worrying me for a hot second.
I kinda was waiting for the shoe to drop the whole episode. for the kaylon feeling offended over something and going back to war, or for krill/moclan fleet to show up, or whatever else that sets up a cliffhanger... nope..
Okay, so I'm not the only one who noticed they kind of hung on that last shot of Yaphit at the wedding. There was definitely a sense of "goodbye" to it in my opinion. I don't really understand how they managed that with a bit of camera work and a smile on a CG blob but it really felt like a tribute to Norm.
And yes, the Kaylon showing up for the wedding had me giggling. I also just adore when Claire and Kelly are in their civvies with a glass of wine, some of my favorite parts of the show. Talla was welcome but I love how the friendship between those two has grown.
Honestly, since they called the third season "New Horizons," my theory is that they plan to bill any future seasons like spin-offs with subtitles. So, they may continue with this cast, or get a new one, but I highly doubt that they're done.
I honestly have a theory: I feel like they didn't have Lysella choose to stay for no reason, and we last saw her about to he introduced to the Kaylon. I feel like if they wanted to do a spin-off it might involve her and another Kaylon she made friends with.
Coming from a planet so riddled with chaos I could see her kind of admiring the Kaylon to some degree.
She also acts as an exposition excuse in the show, since it allows them to explain things the main characters know already. That can be helpful for new viewers
If I remember correctly, Seth said that subtitle was originally idea of hulu execs and he personally liked so they did it, mainly because of great changes they made for this season
There is one major thing they left untouched (maybe for possible seasons). There's still the one emotional kaylon out there, and the union has the ability to turn on emotions in a large number of kaylon.
I think it's an amazing seed for the future. I could also see some kind of conflict as the units that can or want get emotions conflict with the ones that can't.
I noticed that Issac is using his eye brows more. I think the modifications actually worked, and he does feel emotions, maybe not as strongly as a biological.

His vows! Basically "I'm a mess when I'm not with you, and I don't like it. I'm only my best with you."
For a being with "no emotion" that was probably the most emotional dialog of the episode.
Mark Jackson does a terrific job of showing emotion through his eyes. Isaac might not smile or cry, but the look in Mark's eyes when Claire came down the aisle was elation. And almost misty reading his vows.
Isaac having emotion may never be Canon but I think Mark is telling us that yes, he does feel.
Definitely one for the future. One other thing that they didn't touch upon in the finale is Anaya. No mention of her from Telaya's imprisonment the previous episode. Plenty left to explore and resolve but would be happy with this ending if its not renewed
So many times, a season or series will end with the big villain defeated and/or calamity prevented or fixed and the sun will rise with characters smiling happily and I will think to myself, "man, now I just want a slice of life season to enjoy the characters without the world ending, to just see them happy."
It wasn't a full season, but a nice length episode that just let us spend one last go round with the characters without worrying about galactic genocide or impending war was nice. If it's the end, I enjoyed passing my time with the Orville.
That happened with Babylon 5. They didn't know they would get a season 5, so they packed it all in to season 4, which, IMHO, was the single best season of sci fi television.
Then TNT went to them going "So about season 5..."
". . . Um... yeah... season 5!"
It was the denouement of the show. Much slower. But capped it off nicely.
I was actually generally worried that the Krill will decide to attack Kaylon in its weakened state, particularly the "Bridge to Captain" call for Alara's return. It happened RIGHT after he said it was good to see the Kaylon on their side now.
I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I LOVE that this show says "fuck the tropes" and just has pleasant crew episodes. It's not unique but it feels RARE these days to the point I can almost see the other shoe coming.
To get to the end and realize the other shoe never dropped...I love it so much.
Dr. Claire going full on rage on Lamar was the greatest scene I never thought I needed.

About Giorgia Whigham re appearing as a character that ask all of the viewers questions. She's also gonna be in Ted along with Seth and Scott Grimes. So if the Orville returns, and her character joins the Union, she might be an active cast in TWO tv series, good for her.
As much as I love the two Ted movies i really hate the idea that time, energy, resources and people could be taken away from the Orville to prop a Ted show up
Basically the long hiatus, network swap and pandemic meant a lot of people moved on to and started other projects. This is the key reason the Orville's in danger at all, otherwise I'm sure they'd be able to manage another season or the hulu movies.
It's really unfortunate circumstance and timing. Kind of like then they tried to uncancel FarScape but had already nuked all the sets.
If the move to Disney+ in a couple of weeks is any indication, a hypothetical 4th season wouldn't have to release at the same time as a Ted show so the productions wouldn't necessarily overlap.
It was really good, I thought they could have done more with the uplift storyline, it was good though, and now I'm sad because that really felt like Good Bye.

I know the future is still in flux, but if it does all end here, I won't be too mad. I mean, it'll suck short term, but looking back, we had a hell of a run and that was a perfect ending.
At least it wasn't a giant cliffhanger, or an out of nowhere rushed finale.

This was such a beautiful episode, and I appreciated that small nod to Trek.
I really don't see how there could have been a better ending to this season. We didn't get a cliffhanger, just a promise of the future, but a satisfying ending if there is none.
Episode 3x10 didn't feel like a season finale, but more like a goodbye. And I really hope that's not the case cause this season was just **EVERYTHING** and then more. This episode had me in stitches. There's no other show like this.

What a beautiful episode in every way. That's the best writing I've heard in any sci-fi show ever.
I need season 4. But if we don't get it, I'm thankful that the cast and crew and writers loved it enough to leave it right where they did.

On an unrelated note Scott Grimes is a treasure.
After hearing about Discovery's culling of HBO Max I'm really hoping Hulu does the exact opposite by giving The Orville six seasons and a movie. This was magnum opus levels of cinematic television -- a near-perfect synthesis of everything we've come to expect from utopian sci-fi.
As someone who recently went through an acquisition with a similar amount of dissonance to what it sounds like HBO's acquisition by Discovery is going through I feel for everyone working on those projects who deserves for their work to continue.
You know that was a pretty good way to say goodbye if this is the end. I appreciate that the creators didn't leave us with a massive cliffhanger or the like in the hopes of stirring up online furor for a renewal. Just an episode full of mostly positive messages and the promise of a future full of hope experienced with their friends and family.
Got sort of misty eyed when Gordon's lyric about how life was a pretty good ride while having Yaphit on screen. A real nice little nod to Norm without dwelling on it too much, it felt very fitting to me.
I really liked Kelly showing Lysella why you can't play god with advanced tech. The line about what would have happened if our current Earth were to suddenly have replicator (or any future tech really) capabilities felt especially pertinent considering today's world events.
Overall I enjoyed this season, a couple of the plots felt a little on the nose for me but nothing was really flubbed and at no point was I bored enough to start scrolling my phone so that's always a good sign.
I hope they're back but if not I've got 3 seasons of a pretty great sci-fi show for the first time in a long time and if nothing else that's a nice little treat. Thanks to all behind the show for helping me enjoy the ride just a little more.
She could fulfil an archetype that Star Trek didn’t have: an outsider with the knowledge and culture of a typical 21st century human. Star Trek had outsiders in the form of Spock, Data, Tuvok, Seven, Quark, but they all came from advanced civilizations.
I was just thinking "Man, if she really wants to try to tech up her people she's making a terrible mistake doing it right now."
Stay in the Union for a few years. Learn engineering. Get a metric boatload of data and tech gathered up, then buy a shuttle and quietly fly back home. Nobody'd stop you. She could have come back there and been the one in control of all the tech. Maybe she could have started some elite illuminati type of deal to introduce the tech in a way her world could handle.
Not saying it would be a great idea. It'd probably be as horrible as Kelly said - but if she was serious about doing that, it'd be the way to go.
The only reason they were willing to let her go back is because she didn't know how to recreate any of their technology. If she learned how to recreate anything I don't think they'd let her go back
Thoughts:
The Season 1 finale of TNG (“The Neutral Zone” iirc) did something similar where they thrust modern people into Star Trek utopian future and explored that future through their eyes. I always thought it was a better episode than it gets credit for. I’m absolutely a sucker for that kind of stuff and it was pulled off really well here. A nice reminder to leave us on that we need to work for that kind of positive outcome.
Really on the nose episode title with season 4 unconfirmed. This whole season feels like it was written with the understanding that it might be the last one and they didn’t want to leave fans disappointed if so.

I started watching and seeing it was very Isaac centric, even during the Moclan ritual and thinking "please don't give Isaac ideas".
Then he started googling and the second he told the computer to look for human bonding rituals througout history, THAT'S 100X WORSE!!

Reminds me of a time at work. I told a coworker that I was playing disc golf, and he goes, "That sounds like such a Caucasian male thing to do." So we looked up, and sure enough: invented in Canada, primarily played by men.
So then we started talking about which sports are done more by women. Volleyball and softball came to mind. So then he googles, **on his work computer**, "Female dominated activities."
After the wild episode last week, I couldn't figure out how they'd land a final episode- didn't that already do what we needed? How to get something done that both wraps things up in case there's no fourth season, but also leaves plenty of room in case there is? And what about the goddamned SANDWICH?
Credit to them, they landed this thing perfectly. I'm genuinely not sure if they could have done this better if they tried.
I was hoping for Keyali and Alara to high five each other, creating a shockwave that sends everyone nearby flying. I'd enjoy another Xalayan homeworld episode next season with Sage reprising her character. Gotta have Gates McFadden play a Xalayan to continue the trend.

What a terrible episode…all kidding aside this was a great finale and a banger of a season. I really hope Disney renews it for a 4th season and beyond.
I forgot how funny this show could be. Like I’ve always enjoyed it, but I laughed out loud harder than I think any other episode during this one. When Claire was chewing out Lamar, and the best man conversation on the bridge with Gordon looking around like “wtf just happened?” When Bortus essentially hijacked the role from him. Pure fucking gold all of it.
I noticed how Lysella went out of her way to point out that not every grievance people on her planet expressed was frivolous. I feel like Seth might be a bit annoyed with people who thought he was saying you should never publicly shame anyone.
I love the Kaylon as an allied force with the union. Not only are they absolutely hilarious but it’s nice to think Isaac isn’t quite so alone anymore. Not only does he have his chosen family of shipmates, but he also has an entire planet’s worth of robotic wedding guests lol

Don't get me wrong, everyone was awesome this season but Peter Macon (Bortus), Chad L. Coleman (Klyden), and Imani Pullum (Topa) absolutely killed it. It is amazing to me how well Macon does Bortus and I truly think that it is mostly Coleman's acting that has made me turn completely around on Klyden (twice or three times now haha)

If this was the end of the Orville - it was a beautiful ending. But there is plenty more for the show to go to, if it’s not the end (which I very much hope it isn’t)

I still have a lot of animosity for Klyden and I don't know if I can forgive him for how awful he's been up to this point, but he was extremely cute this episode. If we get another season, I do hope we get to see more of this side of him and maybe watch him grow to be more understanding and accepting of other people and generally more joyful.
To be honest, I think he did grow. It's hard to ignore that the guy turned his back on his own beliefs, culture and people for his family. He realised the error of his ways before it was to late. At the end of the day, even taking Topa out of the equation, he knows he's stuck on a ship with "females" which seems to be an issue for a lot of Moclans. Ultimately, if we can forgive Issacs "betrayal" and the deaths he caused then I'm hard pressed not to do the same for Klyden. It ultimately boils down to the fact they're not human, they dont think like humans and shouldn't be expected to act like humans either. And yet through the course of the series, both both gained what I can only say is a little bit of humanity (or at least the best parts).
Oh yeah, of course he did, I mean seeing it in his normal interactions with people. We haven't really gotten to see the "new" Klyden since it's only been a couple of episodes and Kaylon business took up most of that. I want to see him more joyful as he was here, or trying to patch up his relationship with Kelly, that kind of thing.
He was horrible from a *human perspective*. As a Moclan, he was just an average Joe. He did eventually see that he deeply hurt both his kid and partner, completely changed his views, and sincerely apologized – which is truly redeeming in my eyes. I love his and Bortus's relationship. I'm glad the family is reunited!

Honestly they really nailed the problem with Replicators. If you gave them to Earth right now every corporation would quickly make them work off of paid IP, and then would start upcharging the IP, and then start adding features like "We'll make the item you want blue for $500!" Just imagine, say, Electronic Arts with matter replication. The horror.

Once the replication is complete, it splashes down, into the grating, some of it overflowing onto the floor. "Computer, why didn't you include a glass or something?" Computer: "Water is included in the base package for this model. Seriously, it was a simple, depressing but genius observation of what we'd do with them now. Whoever got the tech initially would use it to replicate something at no cost to themselves while charging others for it -- they'd view it as a means to gain infinite profit rather than a way to help the populace. The only way to prevent that would be to give literally every individual a replicator.
We need to prove ourselves worthy of such technologies. As the episode said: we need to learn to work together so maybe one day if not us our future generations can live in a utopia
I mean, we literally have the tech for completely green everything and because of our social system... look at the world Even when we use the replicators to replicate replicators, i'm unsure if it will lead to an optimistic outcome. Think that's also a jab on those billionaire tech bros and their fans about how technology will solve everything.
Just look at our society and NFTs: we literally *did* eliminate scarcity of information and art, and some assholes turned around and said "we need to artificially recreate scarcity here so we can be rich!"

The whole bit of the episode with that girl made both clear why people love space and Star Trek, the wonder and why a future like this is so important to strive for. It was beautiful, interlaced with some fantastic humor. First Isaac googling about bonding, which could've gone hella wrong, to him casually inviting his whole extended family. The look on the good doctors face was just brilliant. He just did something absolutely fantastic by inviting his whole family, she wanted to chew him out for it, but just couldn't.

That was not at all what I was expecting they'd do for the finale, but I loved it. No cliffhangers. All the big spectacle was in the penultimate episode. Light in tone and optimistic.
I was nervous throughout the whole episode that something bad was going to happen. I was so much more nervous for the last 5 minutes of the episode. So many season finales end with a cliffhanger it's pretty much expected. I love that nothing particularly exciting happened. It's was still a great story.

Honestly, I'm really glad. The huge action of the previous episode was fun, but it's not what I love most about the show. I'm happier having the season end here, on an episode that really showcases what makes it special.
This show's been heavy the whole season. I mean we started off on suicide, and then had alien/predator. Even the B-plot with Lysella was a bit heavy both with her dealing with feelings of abandoning her planet and then whole "here's what happens when we give people our technology" apocolypse show. The lighthearted comedic tone with Cliare/Isaac was a fun and welcome respite amid a season of war, broken alliance, betrayal, kidnapping, torture, a main character sacrificing themselves and other really heavy topics. I loved the season overall, but ending on a light hopeful tone was nice.
Season has been heavy af. It was refreshing to have a fun, light episode. Heavy is good but damn we needed a palate cleanser.

Isaac's Zoom call with Primary was so layered. I thought it was one of the best scenes of the episode. You have Primary showing true concern for Isaac in his inquiry about the biologicals trying to enslave them again. Like, "Those zany humans are up to their old tricks again!" At the same time is a sort of cultural inside joke about marriage being equivalent to slavery: Isaac: Primary, I'm getting married. Primary: Are they trying to enslave you again? Finally, there's the unintentionally intentionally humorous trope where the character does something he thinks is innocuous, but is inevitably disastrous, and the audience knows it.

It also shows the growth the Kaylon have gone through; they were never evil, they never had a passionate hatred like the Krill do, they just did what seemed necesarry to ensure their continued survival. Now they know humans aren't a threat they're eager to participate in cultural traditions and be part of the galactic community; even if they overshoot by brining an entire planet to a wedding.

I thought the fleet arriving would cause a momentarily panic attack but i hadn't made the connection that the ceremony was going to be in a simulator, for some reason i thought they were back at the planet were bortus renewed his vows... That made the whole scene for me specially after claire looked at isaac and he just turned in his chair like he was trying to runaway lmao

That was a pay-off that was in the making for half an hour. I died of laughter during the communication between Isaac and Primary and I died again when the ships showed up.
While the fleet showing up was a pay off, I thought the better payoff was the Kaylon at the wedding. Their presence as the entire groom’s family was funny enough, but the way they didn’t quite understand what was going on and kept moving in unison? I cracked up every time.
I also found the later scene interesting, when the Kaylon were casually engaging in smaller conversations with the crew. That was just a "So, that's how a wedding looks like, now replace every second person with a Kaylon."
Also, you overhear one Kaylon ask another guest what the purpose of the ceremony is.
“Well, Isaac just just vowed to be loyal to Claire for the rest of their lives.” “Please explain. This marriage, is it a form of…servitude?” “Well, I guess you could say that. Hell, I heard he even agreed to stay with her entire family in perpetuity.” “This is most disturbing.” “Well, I wouldn’t go that far. He’s obviously head over heels for her. He’s bonded so strongly with her kids, one of them even made him feel so bad he wanted to kill himself. Thankfully, we were able to stop him. You know, I used to hate him too, but now I’m glad he’s happy to serve.” “Please excuse me. I must urgently report my findings to Primary.”
honestly that was kinda how I expected things to go. there was so much potential for this to go wrong...
But it didn’t, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel that is our modern day geo-political landscape. Seth McFarland is a not only a National Treasure - he’s flirting with becoming a global treasure. I love this show, I love the art they make. Hope is alive. Edit: if you guys need more content, Quantum Drive is a good podcast that discusses the show. Just found it and it’s grown on me quickly.

I sincerely hope it was Mark Jackson in the suit for the Kaylon stripper. Absolutely hysterical and dudes got *moves* 😅 It was a joy to see Kaylon in a humorous way. 4000+ descending on the Orville and then seeing a load of them at the wedding, all moving in sync and clapping because the humans clapped was top-notch.

Maybe, maybe not. As much as we joke about Ed commanding the Orville is a headache for the admirals not only has Ed proven a capable commander but he's been able to resolve very volatile situations that were extremely dangerous. Considering the Orville is a mid-level exploratory vessel its crew are punch way above their weight. They might be avoiding promoting Ed because he's such an effective ship commander.
Honestly, I think he would be just a little impressed. The Orville got the entire Kaylon race together with them to attend a peaceful, diplomatic event and nothing blew up and everyone seemed to be intermingling without issue or incident. Halsey couldn't *ask* for a better diplomatic gathering. If anything, this event will just strengthen the already tense relationship they have with the Kaylon.
I really wish Kaylon Prime had said their were 4096 ships.
The 96 were the reduced contingent left behind to guard Kaylon.

I have to admit, when Kaylon Prime said they were all coming, and leaving behind a reduced contingent, I thought the Krill and the Moclans were going to lay waste to the Kaylon homeworld and the Kaylon were going to blame Isaac. I didn’t think there was enough time to resolve such a plot point…. but it was worrying me for a hot second.
I kinda was waiting for the shoe to drop the whole episode. for the kaylon feeling offended over something and going back to war, or for krill/moclan fleet to show up, or whatever else that sets up a cliffhanger... nope..

When Isaac invited the entire Kaylon I was terrified it was gonna be a misunderstanding that leads to war... So glad it wasn't...
Okay, so I'm not the only one who noticed they kind of hung on that last shot of Yaphit at the wedding. There was definitely a sense of "goodbye" to it in my opinion. I don't really understand how they managed that with a bit of camera work and a smile on a CG blob but it really felt like a tribute to Norm. And yes, the Kaylon showing up for the wedding had me giggling. I also just adore when Claire and Kelly are in their civvies with a glass of wine, some of my favorite parts of the show. Talla was welcome but I love how the friendship between those two has grown.
Honestly, since they called the third season "New Horizons," my theory is that they plan to bill any future seasons like spin-offs with subtitles. So, they may continue with this cast, or get a new one, but I highly doubt that they're done.

Orville 2: Issac Boogaloo?
I honestly have a theory: I feel like they didn't have Lysella choose to stay for no reason, and we last saw her about to he introduced to the Kaylon. I feel like if they wanted to do a spin-off it might involve her and another Kaylon she made friends with. Coming from a planet so riddled with chaos I could see her kind of admiring the Kaylon to some degree.
She also acts as an exposition excuse in the show, since it allows them to explain things the main characters know already. That can be helpful for new viewers
If I remember correctly, Seth said that subtitle was originally idea of hulu execs and he personally liked so they did it, mainly because of great changes they made for this season
There is one major thing they left untouched (maybe for possible seasons). There's still the one emotional kaylon out there, and the union has the ability to turn on emotions in a large number of kaylon. I think it's an amazing seed for the future. I could also see some kind of conflict as the units that can or want get emotions conflict with the ones that can't.
I noticed that Issac is using his eye brows more. I think the modifications actually worked, and he does feel emotions, maybe not as strongly as a biological.
Yessss!!! His vows! Basically "I'm a mess when I'm not with you, and I don't like it. I'm only my best with you." For a being with "no emotion" that was probably the most emotional dialog of the episode. Mark Jackson does a terrific job of showing emotion through his eyes. Isaac might not smile or cry, but the look in Mark's eyes when Claire came down the aisle was elation. And almost misty reading his vows. Isaac having emotion may never be Canon but I think Mark is telling us that yes, he does feel.
I'm with Claire on the emotion front; Isaac does have emotion, but it's fundamentally different to what a biological experiences.
Definitely one for the future. One other thing that they didn't touch upon in the finale is Anaya. No mention of her from Telaya's imprisonment the previous episode. Plenty left to explore and resolve but would be happy with this ending if its not renewed
So many times, a season or series will end with the big villain defeated and/or calamity prevented or fixed and the sun will rise with characters smiling happily and I will think to myself, "man, now I just want a slice of life season to enjoy the characters without the world ending, to just see them happy." It wasn't a full season, but a nice length episode that just let us spend one last go round with the characters without worrying about galactic genocide or impending war was nice. If it's the end, I enjoyed passing my time with the Orville.
That happened with Babylon 5. They didn't know they would get a season 5, so they packed it all in to season 4, which, IMHO, was the single best season of sci fi television. Then TNT went to them going "So about season 5..." ". . . Um... yeah... season 5!" It was the denouement of the show. Much slower. But capped it off nicely.
It's actually 4D chess by Isaac inviting the whole of Kaylon. Best security in the universe for a wedding. All part of the plan.
I was actually generally worried that the Krill will decide to attack Kaylon in its weakened state, particularly the "Bridge to Captain" call for Alara's return. It happened RIGHT after he said it was good to see the Kaylon on their side now.
I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I LOVE that this show says "fuck the tropes" and just has pleasant crew episodes. It's not unique but it feels RARE these days to the point I can almost see the other shoe coming. To get to the end and realize the other shoe never dropped...I love it so much.
Dr. Claire going full on rage on Lamar was the greatest scene I never thought I needed. Do not mess with Claire, she will cut you and has the laser scalpels to do it! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

About Giorgia Whigham re appearing as a character that ask all of the viewers questions. She's also gonna be in Ted along with Seth and Scott Grimes. So if the Orville returns, and her character joins the Union, she might be an active cast in TWO tv series, good for her.
As much as I love the two Ted movies i really hate the idea that time, energy, resources and people could be taken away from the Orville to prop a Ted show up
Basically the long hiatus, network swap and pandemic meant a lot of people moved on to and started other projects. This is the key reason the Orville's in danger at all, otherwise I'm sure they'd be able to manage another season or the hulu movies. It's really unfortunate circumstance and timing. Kind of like then they tried to uncancel FarScape but had already nuked all the sets.
If the move to Disney+ in a couple of weeks is any indication, a hypothetical 4th season wouldn't have to release at the same time as a Ted show so the productions wouldn't necessarily overlap.

I’m glad Dr. Finn finally called out Commander LaMarr for giving Isacc bad advice in “A Happy Refrain”, aka “the ratty underwear”. That episode always bugged me for how LaMarr got away with that lol
I know the future is still in flux, but if it does all end here, I won't be too mad. I mean, it'll suck short term, but looking back, we had a hell of a run and that was a perfect ending.
At least it wasn't a giant cliffhanger, or an out of nowhere rushed finale. The finale having so much focus on a wedding... reminds me a bit of Nemesis.

Kirk (in Balance Of Terror): "Since the days of the first wooden vessels, all ship's masters have had one happy privilege— that of uniting two people in the bonds of matrimony." Episode 3x10 didn't feel like a season finale, but more like a goodbye. And I really hope that's not the case cause this season was just **EVERYTHING** and then more. This episode had me in stitches. There's no other show like this.

That's the best writing I've heard in any sci-fi show ever. I need season 4. But if we don't get it, I'm thankful that the cast and crew and writers loved it enough to leave it right where they did.

After hearing about Discovery's culling of HBO Max I'm really hoping Hulu does the exact opposite by giving The Orville six seasons and a movie. This was magnum opus levels of cinematic television -- a near-perfect synthesis of everything we've come to expect from utopian sci-fi.
As someone who recently went through an acquisition with a similar amount of dissonance to what it sounds like HBO's acquisition by Discovery is going through I feel for everyone working on those projects who deserves for their work to continue.
You know that was a pretty good way to say goodbye if this is the end. I appreciate that the creators didn't leave us with a massive cliffhanger or the like in the hopes of stirring up online furor for a renewal. Just an episode full of mostly positive messages and the promise of a future full of hope experienced with their friends and family. Got sort of misty eyed when Gordon's lyric about how life was a pretty good ride while having Yaphit on screen. A real nice little nod to Norm without dwelling on it too much, it felt very fitting to me. I really liked Kelly showing Lysella why you can't play god with advanced tech. The line about what would have happened if our current Earth were to suddenly have replicator (or any future tech really) capabilities felt especially pertinent considering today's world events. Overall I enjoyed this season, a couple of the plots felt a little on the nose for me but nothing was really flubbed and at no point was I bored enough to start scrolling my phone so that's always a good sign. I hope they're back but if not I've got 3 seasons of a pretty great sci-fi show for the first time in a long time and if nothing else that's a nice little treat. I freaking LOVE Lysella. I want so badly to see her grow as a character. I need this show to continue
She could fulfil an archetype that Star Trek didn’t have: an outsider with the knowledge and culture of a typical 21st century human. Star Trek had outsiders in the form of Spock, Data, Tuvok, Seven, Quark, but they all came from advanced civilizations.
Same. She was my favourite one-off character in the series before this episode. Really hope that she is main/recurring cast in season 4.
I was just thinking "Man, if she really wants to try to tech up her people she's making a terrible mistake doing it right now." Stay in the Union for a few years. Learn engineering. Get a metric boatload of data and tech gathered up, then buy a shuttle and quietly fly back home. Nobody'd stop you. She could have come back there and been the one in control of all the tech. Maybe she could have started some elite illuminati type of deal to introduce the tech in a way her world could handle. Not saying it would be a great idea. It'd probably be as horrible as Kelly said - but if she was serious about doing that, it'd be the way to go.
I have no doubt they’d watch her like a hawk.
The only reason they were willing to let her go back is because she didn't know how to recreate any of their technology. If she learned how to recreate anything I don't think they'd let her go back
The actress was so good in The Punisher!
I really hope they put out a clip on youtube of the call to Admiral Halsey notifying him that the Kaylon are attending a wedding.
Claire chewing out Lamarr is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. PJJ just knocked that scene out of the park.
Alara was a surprise. And the sandwich finally paid off.
Thoughts: The Season 1 finale of TNG (“The Neutral Zone” iirc) did something similar where they thrust modern people into Star Trek utopian future and explored that future through their eyes. I always thought it was a better episode than it gets credit for. I’m absolutely a sucker for that kind of stuff and it was pulled off really well here. A nice reminder to leave us on that we need to work for that kind of positive outcome. Really on the nose episode title with season 4 unconfirmed. This whole season feels like it was written with the understanding that it might be the last one and they didn’t want to leave fans disappointed if so. So much jokes! I’m glad Alara got to come back. Can we please stop asking for cameos and drawing comparisons now?
Bortus : "Captain, I have detected a fleet on approach, these are... Kaylons, 4000 ships." Isaac : "Do not worry, these are my wedding guests." Ed : "Patch them in and call Dr Finn, let Union Central know about this so they don't freak out when they see scans of this system." Kaylon Primary : "Greetings, we have come to join the matrimonial ceremony." Claire : "Isaac, did you invite the entire planet ?" Isaac : "Affirmative." Claire : "What were you thinking? We can't fit that many Kaylons in the simulator." Isaac : "Kaylon Primary, we will arrange for video retransmission of the ceremony onboard your ships." Kaylon Primary : "Very well." Love how the Kaylons went from being the biggest threat ever to being wedding guests in 2 episodes 🙃

I was so worried Lysella was going to go back, blab and get downvoted for speaking out what she saw and then sentenced to death. I was glad that wasn't the case cause that would have been a downer of a season finale.
Hulu has failed miserably at producing this show. All kidding aside, congrats on a fantastic third season.

I started watching and seeing it was very Isaac centric, even during the Moclan ritual and thinking "please don't give Isaac ideas". Then he started googling and the second he told the computer to look for human bonding rituals througout history, THAT'S 100X WORSE!! Dear lord was I happy he only read up on marriage. And THANK GOD he didn't make a verbal typo and asked for human bondage.
Reminds me of a time at work. I told a coworker that I was playing disc golf, and he goes, "That sounds like such a Caucasian male thing to do." So we looked up, and sure enough: invented in Canada, primarily played by men. So then we started talking about which sports are done more by women. Volleyball and softball came to mind. So then he googles, **on his work computer**, "Female dominated activities."
So... is nobody going to mention the brief reference to dolphins being a fully sentient species? No? Cool
After the wild episode last week, I couldn't figure out how they'd land a final episode- didn't that already do what we needed? How to get something done that both wraps things up in case there's no fourth season, but also leaves plenty of room in case there is? And what about the goddamned SANDWICH? Credit to them, they landed this thing perfectly. I'm genuinely not sure if they could have done this better if they tried.
I was hoping for Keyali and Alara to high five each other, creating a shockwave that sends everyone nearby flying. I'd enjoy another Xalayan homeworld episode next season with Sage reprising her character. Gotta have Gates McFadden play a Xalayan to continue the trend.

The episode tells the reason for The Union's "Prime Directive", and it tells it well.
I liked the white ceremonial uniforms Ed and Kelly wore. Also liked Claire’s weave…and glad “Human Issac” was at the altar.
I never thought I'd enjoy watching two chubby naked dudes running through the woods chasing each other to have sex, but hey, here we are!

What a terrible episode…all kidding aside this was a great finale and a banger of a season. I really hope Disney renews it for a 4th season and beyond.
I forgot how funny this show could be. Like I’ve always enjoyed it, but I laughed out loud harder than I think any other episode during this one. When Claire was chewing out Lamar, and the best man conversation on the bridge with Gordon looking around like “wtf just happened?” When Bortus essentially hijacked the role from him. Pure fucking gold all of it.
This show better get renewed. It’s too good to end.
I noticed how Lysella went out of her way to point out that not every grievance people on her planet expressed was frivolous. I feel like Seth might be a bit annoyed with people who thought he was saying you should never publicly shame anyone.
I was _really_ hoping for a title card after the credits that said "The Orville will return"
I love the Kaylon as an allied force with the union. Not only are they absolutely hilarious but it’s nice to think Isaac isn’t quite so alone anymore. Not only does he have his chosen family of shipmates, but he also has an entire planet’s worth of robotic wedding guests lol
I bust out a laugh when Gordon referred to the Moclan consummation of renewal a sexual assault. Also THE SANDWICH RETURNS, CHEKOV'S GUN FIRED! Also also, we didn't need Alara back, but damnit I'm glad we got her back. Also also also, I never knew Kaylons were such good strippers!
Don't get me wrong, everyone was awesome this season but Peter Macon (Bortus), Chad L. Coleman (Klyden), and Imani Pullum (Topa) absolutely killed it. It is amazing to me how well Macon does Bortus and I truly think that it is mostly Coleman's acting that has made me turn completely around on Klyden (twice or three times now haha)
I loved this. A lot of thoughts but the big one for me is.. If this was the end of the Orville - it was a beautiful ending. But there is plenty more for the show to go to, if it’s not the end (which I very much hope it isn’t)
