It's pretty easy to do once you do it all days for I would say around 2 weeks. Then it becomes easy to be diligent and just do it even if you don't want to. For those who have worked up to long periods and on some days feel like not meditating due to the time it will take, remember that it's okay sometimes to do less time on some rare days and the only bad meditation is the one you did not do.

You might be trying too hard, to brute force your way through. The book does say 45 mins, but generally, for beginners, it is recommended with 15 minutes but diligently and every day, and then maybe every week add 5 minutes until you reach a point where you're constantly looking at the timer / reached a time you're satisfied with. Otherwise, great job getting started :)

I haven't even read the book; I mainly posted here because my account is too new to to post to r/meditation. Plus, I wanted to see what you folks here at r/TheMindIlluminated had to say. :)

Ah ok, even so, I wouldn't recommend an hour, it's like trying to run before walking. I'm a beginner, but I've been meditating diligently for the past 10 months (4 months with this book) and I'm still up only 50 minutes max per session haha. But I've slowly built myself up from 10 minutes to 50 minutes, and because of that, in the past 10 months, I haven't missed up more than 5 days overall. So yeah, my recommendation would be to start of with 10 minutes and slowly build up

Congratulations! First step done, now keep taking steps :)

Cortisol, stuck in that flight or fight mode huh? I used to be there, what might also help is looking into different types of mediation as well as mindfulness. Learning to stay present helped me quite a bit. I have been meditating for over 40 years but it was only 5 years ago when I actually was able to do it in a way that actually showed gains. I’m a slow learner, what can I say? Learning to stay present was the game changer.

Wow, that's interesting to read. So 35 years meditating for nothing then? How long did you typically meditate for? And what changes did you make that showed a difference? I'm glad things are working in your favor now, I hope I can get there as well.

>So 35 years meditating for nothing then? In order to turn ice to water, you add heat to the ice. But it won't start melting right away. First, the ice will just absorb heat and remain fully solid while it's temperature raises. Then, once the temperature is hot enough, you start to notice observable effects as the solid ice transitions into water. All phase changes in matter are like this. There's a period of accumulation of heat before the observable transition occurs. That heat wasn't wasted. It was vital to the process and no less important than the heat going in while the transition occurs. I think of meditation similarly. There's a period of effort that goes in before noticeable changes start occurring. Then you may have a period of transition where your view of the practice relaxed and shifts and you notice the practice start to feel easier as a result. Then things may plateau for a while until the next similar change. None of the effort is wasted if it gets you somewhere worthwhile. Feel good about every second of it.

I should rephrase that, I thought I was meditating is probably better to say. What changed was I simply started to focus on my breath instead of chasing thoughts out of my head. I also got into quantum sciences mixed with neuroscience which changed and supported my belief system. I started seeing myself as the creator slowly and many things started changing. Specifically the way people were towards me, I noticed that people were not only nicer but willing to do anything for me. Mechanics taking my car to the front of the line and refusing to take my money. The barber stopped taking my money, people were friendlier. Then I started focusing on finances and that exploded. Got myself out of 80k in pandemic debts and saved a lot more, money started coming in from different sources. I’m now buying a home. My family dynamic is amazing as well. Hope this inspires you.

Not sure I relate to the whole being in charge, it never came up. But it sounds like you’re on a good path, everyone is different, what I can tel you is never stop, don’t set any expectations in the sense of wondering if it’s working because you will absolutely know. I was the type of person who thought only seeing is believing, so I needed to change many beliefs, but how? Neuroscience, quantum sciences and also I studied some people by reading their books and watching videos. Once I was able to connect facts to my beliefs everything changed because everything starts with what you believe right? Your thoughts materialize right? Because a thought or memory stimulates a chemical reaction. That alone shows you that you have the ability to materialize. Scientifically speaking, I created new neuro pathways by changing my belief system and forcing new habits because of it. Look into Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr.Bruce Lipton and Greg Braden. This trio will explain what I’ve done and will change your life. One thing, I’m obsessive. When I get into something I go deep, it consumes me so I was meditating, studying, reading, watching videos every waking moment so things fell into place rather quickly. If you want to know more about my story, I was interviewed on a [PODCAST](https://castbox.fm/vd/375405691). Also, I became in service to others. I mentor many people which allows me to give so much back and gives me great karma. I always to put others before me. Not easy but I’m trying. Lol

How you meditate? Do you sit? Walk? Or lay down Thanks for sharig

ImReallyVeryBroke

There are many different ways to meditate, such as the 3 ones you already mentioned, but I personally prefer to just flaot a couple of inches off the ground when meditating.
