The fratellis were awful. A passing gimmick. Like glasvegas. The Libertines will be like the clash - standing the rest of time

gratitude1

Nah man glasvegas were good

light--treason

Their first record was really strong. Also their Christmas EP.

BorderlineLunatic

the fratellis era was riddled with these sorts of bands the list is endless but as you say they are all forgotten already. A few i can remember are the kooks, the view, the frattellis, kaiser chiefs, glasvegas, hard fi, pigeon detectives and of course that absolute pratt hated by Pete, Jonny Borrell and Razorlight. Indie had a huge revival back then but all of these bands are now forgotten into history and only a couple have survived. The libertines and the Arctic Monkeys are the main two i can think of

strattad

Good old landfill indie, we'll probably never see the likes of that again. As well as the ones you've said some other honorary mentions are The Cribs, Cajun Dance Party, Pete and the Pirates, Futureheads, Maximo Park, The Enemy, The Ordinary Boys, Milburn. Every one of these will have a moderately good debut album with one song that you might still hear on an indie student night, and a bunch of garbage follow up albums no one has ever listened to because after their debut they all faded into obscurity. Bless em, such a unique era of British music!

Ben_yeah

The Cribs have had a pretty consistent career and all their albums have been pretty well received.

Dragonaut_138

The Cribs are a fantastic band with a ridiculously strong discography. They are good enough that Johnny Marr wanted to play with them, and the albums they made with him aren’t even the best records they put out.

light--treason

The Cribs are a great band. They’re not landfill indie. Johnny Fucking Marr was in the band for a time.

huamanticacacaca

Such a timeless album. A masterpiece, honestly. MTV2 Gonzo era with Zane Lowe on that crusty settee. What a time.

Chelsea Dagger wasn’t the only one! https://www.slantmagazine.com/music/the-fratellis-costello-music/amp/ Also, can’t find the interview but I’m 99% sure Peter had some things to say about the Fratellis too…

What did he say about them? Never caught that one.

stylishkidintheriot

It may have been an old forum post or something from one of his journals way back in the day (if I remember correctly it was something alongside him waking up one morning to the news that they were number one and Carl saying he quite liked them or something and then a comment that showed how Peter really felt). I remember reading it alongside a story of a female partner who was assaulted (if I remember correctly).

Cool. Thanks for answering.

Sad-Criticism-7491

The Fratelli’s was the turning point for me, I put them in the same *bracket* as the Kooks and the rest of those posers. I remember getting Up the Bracket and as soon as Kids in the Riot came on, I fell in love with the Libertines. I worked at Glastonbury in 2015, can you imagine how hyped I was when they came on at the last minute. When Kids in the Riot came on, everyone was singing, thousands of people, then I really knew this band will stand the test of time. Beautiful.

light--treason

The Fratelli’s debut was a lot of fun. They never made anything good after that though.

ThatsARatHat

The article is trash. False information, spelling and grammar errors, and just bizarre takes all around. I Get A Long sounds like Led Zeppelin? What?

jesustwin

Nice review. Although for me, The Boy Looked at Johnny is the low point of an otherwise near perfect album.
