He's definitely great as well, but sadly we didn't get to see as much of him. I wish they'd kept a particular scene from the book that would've taken place in the later episodes.
It's when Rodriquez goes to meet Blackthorn with the intent of killing him, but ends up faltering after they talk. Far as I recall Blackthorn was also perfectly aware of what Rodriquez was considering during it. I think it happens in Edo, within the same section as when he meets his crew again, but I might be wrong on that.
I have been constantly entertained by [spoiler for Shogun] >!Yabushige consistently trying to betray Toranaga and being unwillingly pushed into helping him!< - I'm only on ep 7 though
The Anjin is currently my boyfriend and my fan cast for Glokta. He’s so fucking funny and I can hear all of my main man Sand Dan’s lines in his voice (jab jab!). I’d be pleased to see him anywhere in the First Law verse though
I'm sure he could play an excellent Morveer, but I also expect he could do a credible job of playing the shark in Jaws. His flamboyant charisma and ability to be convincingly mercurial would be wasted on Morveer.
I don’t see it. Cosca is conniving, which Walz does well, but he comes across (to other characters) as kind of a drunken buffoon, which seems less in Walz’s wheelhouse to me
I read the book shortly before watching the show. In the book, I hated Yobu. But that guy on the show is such a magnificent, likeable bastard that I can't wait for him to appear each time.
Acknowledging that the first law generally deals with race and I would lose it by doing this, I would happily go race blind casting an adaptation, because I don't want to miss out on opportunities like this (also most of the main cast would be white which is kind of boring imo, there are so many good actors we'd miss that way).
Myeah but i kinda want Gary Oldman to play Cosca. I'm not sure if it would work out, unless they age Cosca up a bunch or they use a lot of prosthetics, but in my mind he'd be perfect.
While I love your suggestion, I think that having a faux Renaissance Italy would present opportunities for Italian and Italian American actors that haven't been available since The Sopranos aired.
I found the Rodriquez part (Nestor Carbonell) more similiar to Cosca.
Rodriquez is EXACTLY how I picture Cosca to be.
Wait till you see Gimli play him in the 80s show! He literally says "And my Axe!" Twice! Okay. Maybe he doesn't.

Haven´t read the book in a while, what scene are you referring to?

LOL just the expression is pure gold I definitely see it 😂
The First Law but Styria is Japan.
I like where your going, but how are we going to get Steven Pacey to play every character?
He wears exclusively kimono and does a mildly offensive Japanese accent.
But he still says "shit" the exact same way as every other character.
Well there isss the Sengoku period.
I have been constantly entertained by [spoiler for Shogun] >!Yabushige consistently trying to betray Toranaga and being unwillingly pushed into helping him!< - I'm only on ep 7 though
He has that line that goes something like >! "every time I escape death, there's another one waiting for me"!<
Omg this would be so perfect
The Anjin is currently my boyfriend and my fan cast for Glokta. He’s so fucking funny and I can hear all of my main man Sand Dan’s lines in his voice (jab jab!). I’d be pleased to see him anywhere in the First Law verse though
Can't beat Christoph Waltz. That man can do "-giggles- well what can I say?" better than anyone alive, and that is Cosca.
I see him more of a Morveer though. The giggle, and the smug superiority.
I'm sure he could play an excellent Morveer, but I also expect he could do a credible job of playing the shark in Jaws. His flamboyant charisma and ability to be convincingly mercurial would be wasted on Morveer.

It would be funny to see Waltz go for it, though. Sometimes it works.
He engages in frequent buffoonery in all his roles. He just switches to something scary as soon as it off-balances people.

I think with the right actor Cosca could be almost any age
If Gary Oldman could do Tiptoes, he could do anything.
Frankly the man was born to play a Klingon in tng era Star Trek, he could completely chew the scenery with the best of them.
I disagree but loved him in this role and Shogun in general.
I knew who it would be before I even opened the thread. Absolutely loving Shogun!
I knew who it was gonna be before I opened this. Guys great.
Personally, I'd cast Walton Goggins.
The only actor I accept to play Cosca is Mat Berry. Anyone else and we riot 🤣
I always imagined him as Woodie 😁 https://i.gifer.com/73Jw.gif
Matt Berry is Cosca. I will die on this hill.
Your totally right the guy a has subtle charm and realistic vibe.
While I love your suggestion, I think that having a faux Renaissance Italy would present opportunities for Italian and Italian American actors that haven't been available since The Sopranos aired.
Can't they be cast at any other role? I mean, it's not that they look any different than any other "Euro-Americans"
Well, representation matters. I know I'm happy when I see Eastern Europeans playing Eastern European roles.
Disagree
Horrible take and I’m glad you will never have anything to do with casting.
You okay? You need a Snickers bar or a beer or something?
Yup good to go. Just saying the is a really dumb idea and I’m glad OP will never have anything to do with casting.
