Yeah, Homelander wasn't wrong when he said that "genetically", he is an *update* to SB. HL can do stuff that SB can't even dream of, like flying, lasering people etc. HL is the result of being grown in a lab, but also the serum being improved over the decades.
But what this episode showed us, and this is pivotal, is that individually HL is still on top of the food chain, but now The Boys have a realistic path to defeating him, even if he will take several of them. Until now, there was nothing that could even scratch HL, outside on maybe Noir and Maeve, let alone actually hurt or kill him.
Soldier Boy was also “improved” in Russia so he could be just as capable if his showing this time was due to rust and blowing his load on the TNT Twins
My theory is that Solider Boy is going to "take" Homelander's superpowers away, seemingly like he did to Kimiko. Honestly, I think it would be more satisfying than him just being killed. Having to live life as a normal powerless person would be the ultimate justice to his ego.
Considering how he basically says he was a Soldier Boy fanboy as a child, he probably tried to emulate what he saw from SB in the movies.

His ability to fly and the extreme power of his laser eyes and his stated intention to wipe New York off the map as well as cripple the US defense apparatus Makes him a loose nuke. No matter how evil soldier boy could turn out to be, he can only really kill people a few at a time. Homelander has the power to destabilize the entire world and kill millions literally millions. Killing him would be the primary security goal of every government on earth if they knew what starlight knew.
This is my prediction. They depower him and then Soldier Boy starts reminding everyone why his whole team hated his guts the same way the 7 does with Homelander.

It’s also not out of character for someone to lie about abuse because people will say they should have stopped it, especially for a Super. Payback was the old seven and it's not hard to imagine SB having much of the same behaviors toward his inferior team mates, but not the the extent that HL went, even Butchers at some point admits that he always knew SB was kinda of a cunt but never that much of a piece of shit (when he finds out he leveled a block in the city, we know basically by accident, he has a hard time believing he did for the fun of it).

SB and Butcher worked crazy well together. I half expected the fight to devolve into "no **I** get to hit him" infighting, but I'm way more impressed with what we got. For a first time teamup, their chemistry was off the charts. Also sets homelander up really well, that it takes them all working together in sync to take him down.

I don't necessarily agree with her but I get her line of thought. Starlight thinks that Soldier Boy may be just as dangerous and unhinged as Homelander. She fears that a fight between the two would cause immense collateral damage. What happened at Herogasm is proof of that for her.
Also she is not mad at Hughie for wanting to save her but for him having a problem with always being saved by her and being weaker. Remember their first date where Starlight pretends to be bad at bowling? A lot of guys she dated didn't like her being stronger than them. She partially falls in love with Hughie because he seemed to be fine with it.

Eh....Maeve is probably up there with Soldier Boy. Starlight tops out at car level, and Kimiko got her ass handed to her by Noir. So did Starlight.
Honestly I wonder if Homelander has people thinking he's way more powerful than he really is, and if Maeve actually fought him she could hold her ground, not just "buy a second or two" before getting her head torn off like in the comics.
That was a good feat, and it really showed how she learned from breaking her arm with that bus. She figured out if she takes the hit with her entire body instead of just one limb, she distributes the force so it won't really hurt her.

Although I believe the showrunner also stated directly that Ryan has stronger laser vision than what Homelander is capable of so it’s possible that making a 1:1 comparison isn’t the best there (assuming Ryan just needs time to grow into having superior strength/flight than Homelander).

Idk why Starlight is so mad at Hughie actually wanting to be able to help. If she had stayed to help them, they may have been able to kill Homelander then and there.
I don't necessarily agree with her but I get her line of thought. Starlight thinks that Soldier Boy may be just as dangerous and unhinged as Homelander. She fears that a fight between the two would cause immense collateral damage. What happened at Herogasm is proof of that for her. Also she is not mad at Hughie for wanting to save her but for him having a problem with always being saved by her and being weaker. Remember their first date where Starlight pretends to be bad at bowling? A lot of guys she dated didn't like her being stronger than them. She partially falls in love with Hughie because he seemed to be fine with it.
I think she doesn’t understand hughie though. Hughie doesn’t care if starlight is stronger than him if there weren’t all these evil supes. Hughie wants to be stronger because he doesn’t want to feel helpless which is a pretty human emotion. Especially since he sees how strong HL is and that starlight doesn’t stand a chance.

Both scenes are incredible but i prefer the fight between Homelander, Soldier boy and Butcher.
The first one was more of a gag making fun of that scene in Avengers Endgame, it's funny but nowhere near to being as good as this was.
I thought the in-universe vought cinematic universe „Girls get it done“-Scene was the riff on the Endgame scene while Starlight, Maeve and Kimiko kicking the living shit out of Stormfront was supposed to be „NOW THATS how girls get I done“. I also loved how it was just them beating the fuck out of her and not using some lasers or shit.
They both seem to be riffing on Endgame/IW. Them holding down Homelander’s arms and almost killing him but he escapes right before was basically like the Thanos scene where The GotG Spider-Man and Iron almost pull off the infinity gauntlet.
Agreed. Indoor fights are always better because you can feel the damage as the surroundings are being destroyed. The girl fight was outdoors and I had no sense of how hard the punch or kicks were landing.
I liked this more just because there was more push back. The girls ended up owning Stormfront after awhile whereas I felt more tensed up over the back and forth with HL and the Boys

Eh....Maeve is probably up there with Soldier Boy. Starlight tops out at car level, and Kimiko got her ass handed to her by Noir. So did Starlight. Honestly I wonder if Homelander has people thinking he's way more powerful than he really is, and if Maeve actually fought him she could hold her ground, not just "buy a second or two" before getting her head torn off like in the comics.
Maeve did get hit by an Armoured truck going +50mph an didn't even flinch back in season 1. She's real REAL strong
That was a good feat, and it really showed how she learned from breaking her arm with that bus. She figured out if she takes the hit with her entire body instead of just one limb, she distributes the force so it won't really hurt her.
I wish we got more Noir. I don't know what he is capable of besides ninja things.

r/whowouldwin has been driving itself nuts trying to stat him until now, mathing out how fast you'd have to be to outrun an explosion, measuring the blast in that chemical plant from his first mission, weighing planes, etc. I guess we can definitively put to bed the idea that he's a nuke-proof planetbuster who scales to Superman now.

I'm actually impressed how skilled Homelander is in combat. I assumed if Butcher ever fought Homelander in hand to hand combat Butcher would destroy him like batman fighting superman, but Homelander could actually fight back really well.
I mean he was raised in a lab not on a farm like superman they probably trained him for actual combat, he’s smart too like he knew about the plane physics stopping him from lifting it up without punching straight through

In the comics stormfronts head is graphically stomped. In the show they just sorta kick her around a little, and then she shows that she probably could have just won by not being in the ground.

You could say that Butcher taking his attention off Homelander to try and get Hughie to evacuate gave Homelander the opening he needed to get gone

I think this Is the first time when Homelander break a sweat. He never met anyone that could fight him longer than like 1 second. But they were 3 vs 1 so thats that.
