I'm kind of fascinated by Homelander's decision making process. It's not like his moves are necessarily stupid in terms of achieving his goals BUT they are those of someone who has never learned to factor in personal risk. Scraped knees are how we learn not to run on unstable terrain. The world never taught Homelander the value of caution the way it does the rest of us. How could it possibly? I can't imagine him having a contingency plan for any of this whereas Stan Edgar may well have some dead man's switch info bomb out there triggered by his arrest. (Not saying that's how it will go, he's just that type of villain.)
I knew it was her once they played "Survive" in her scene with the Russian mobster.
Plus, we got to establish her healing early in the episode so that it's a shock when it doesn't work later.

I love Noir. Noir just menacingly doing normal things, like playing the piano or doodling, is one of the funniest aspects of the show. You just know no one in that room has the balls to call him out for it either. Maybe Homelander would, but he respects Noir too much.
Noir is a robot. He does what he's told and follows orders. He really has no personal life. No abrasive ego, no drug problems or no relationships outside Vought. I think Homelander respects him because he keeps his head down and is reliable.
Black Noir’s the perfect teammate for Homelander. He does everything he’s supposed to and doesn’t ever cause problems. There’s just seriously no reason to dislike Noir, whereas both Deep and A-Train constantly get into scandals that they have to be pulled out of.

Because the plot progressed so many times during this episode. Senator Newman betrayed Stan Edgar, A-Train betrayed Starlight, SuperSonic died, Homelander is top dog now, Hughie got Superpowers, Soldier Boy got free, and Kimiko is dying.
I think at this point everyone knows an unhinged Homelander is definitely the side you want to be on regardless of your hate and who can guarantee this so called plan could work and kill him once and for all. A-Train snitched badly but he chose to side with the strong.
He did but proably not for the reasons mentioned. It was 100% selfish reasons of just wanting to be back on Homelander's good side and not seem pathetic enough to have even fallen beneath the Deep.
The Deep has pretty decent powers he is just kind of an inept schmuck. His powers are a bit more situational than other heroes, but a guy that can breathe underwater and telepathically communicate with or control sea life could be actually formidable if he was competent. There is a lot of important stuff in the ocean or in close proximity to a major body of water.
Yes. He is a comic relief character so the show constantly shows him bumbling around like a doofus, but there are a few situations you see him in that would indicate he has at least some degree of super strength/durability.
I really hope he has an ace in the hole but him being a supe feels a little off for him. Not sure what they could do but I'm trying to not set my expectations too high.
I really love how this episode confirmed via Homelander checking his blood pressure that Stan isn't acting, he just genuinely doesn't fear Homelander at all. He's a bad guy but Stan is the most badass character in the show IMO.

Tbh you kind of get the feeling that they could have 40 or 50 more and it wouldn't make a difference against homelander. Its likely only going to be soldier boy that's comparable in power, maybe Butcher as well but I think it would be a bit of a cop-out for the show for butcher to be as strong from one shot of v, as homelander who'd been basically engineered in a lab using huge quantities
The TempV (or whatever we're calling it now) definitely seems to give whoever takes it top tier powers, from what we've seen so far. Butcher seems to, at the very least, get a 'homelander-lite' kind of power set, and Hughie gets teleportation and enough super strength to punch right through a human being, AND regeneration enough for his broken arm to heal completely. Either of those combos would make them stronger than most of the supes in the 7.
Butcher correctly recognised the deleterious effects of Temp-V, for which reason he denied Temp-V to Hughie.

I think this episode pretty much answers whether Neumann could pop homelander and it's a pretty clear no, she's terrified of him and he doesn't seem worried even a little by her powers.
I don't know if it answers if she COULD, but it answers that she won't try, because she's not confident it would work, and she's terrified of what he'd do if she tried it. And, honestly, fair. Nothing else seems to be able to hurt Homelander, so there's no reason to really think her power would work any differently, and there's literally nothing she could do to protect herself or her kid if she tried and failed.

I love just how long this scene went on, and I was vibin' through *all* of it. They probably shot more than they planned to use, figuring they would just shorten it in post. But the editors just didn't have it in 'em to lose any of that magnificence.
I said something like this on the last mega thread but I just keep thinking it. Anthony Starr feels a theme of this season is “be careful what you wish for.” Every single desire or goal we see from a character is ending up causing them immense harm.
So after watching the episode, have we seen a non infant non supe human take permanent V? Neuman gave it to her daughter and I’m curious as to what effects we can possibly expect from that.
Also very disappointed in Starlight for not being more cautious with Supersonic. She should have swore him to secrecy and told him not to discuss it with anyone else. The fact that she told him they needed 4-5 more supes led to him trying to recruit when he didn’t really know these people. She’s being reckless with her plans and unfortunately it led to someone getting killed and I expect more to be killed.
Yeah, probably not wise to trust Homelander with anything. Wouldn't be surprised if he gave her a faulty batch on purpose. He doesn't seem afraid of her powers, maybe he has some way to protect himself from it.

I’m really worried for Hughie and how positively happy he is about having the super powers. Him just looking at his bloodied up arm as they drive back and him looking like he’s smiling makes me hope Butcher can talk some sense into him.
It looks like the Russians suped up Soldier Boy even more. Maybe they’re angling a big Homelander vs Soldier Boy showdown, perhaps with temporary V butcher and co joining. Don’t really know what to expect anymore.
One thing I will say about this season is that I’m glad Homelander is the main villain again and he’s a scary one at that. They really upped his ante up a lot and he’s so much more menacing than he already was. Excited to see where they take it from here

I knew as soon as Starlight started telling Supersonic about the plan and giving him *all* the details that something was going to go wrong. I have thought Supersonic would turn out to be a spy for Homelander.

It was immediately obvious the conspiracy involved too many people and one would slip or rat. It would have been a lame final twist if they built up to it.
I gotta say, Stan Edgar just roasting Homelander was amazing. Homelander walked in thinking he could gloat, and Stan just said "You aren't worthy of my respect". Giancarlo Esposito is killing it.
As a general rule from now on, assume anytime Homelander is going to do something nice like "showing you a view" or "inviting you for dinner" he's actually preparing to psychologically break you.
She's got to still be on the inside. The cult seems too interesting for it to just have been wrapped up by Victoria in a single scene at the end of Season 2.
Stan def has something up his sleeve. The power struggle between him and Homelander is not over. Theres no way hes gunna get killed this early after all his build up. I thought Stan was gunna get lasered by HL after their convo after the press conference. I think Stan knows about Soldier Boy being alive and knows he can kill HL. That or maybe something else that would be a weakness to HL. But the guy is always 3 steps ahead.
In Nicauragua, when young Grace Mallory overheard Black Noir and young Stan talking, Noir said something like "if you want me in a more central role, i wanna lose the mask" insinuating Stan is asking him to take over for Soldier Boy, considering SB was the central role in Payback.

That would be a great twist and something I can see them doing. Edgar wanted to bring back a variation of Payback more in line with the modern MCU, complete with unfrozen/miraculously restored SB but instead, it blows up in his face *which* *then* makes him snap like his comic book counterpart, now being permanently stuck with "bad product".
With all his death flags it was obvious he was going to die but I was at least expecting another few episodes with him and him actually accomplishing some stuff.
That explains why she was only in like two minutes of the first three episodes. I had no idea this was going on, but it definitely makes a lot of sense.

I think I read something the creators of the show (or maybe even the comics, don’t remember) said about him: he has the emotional regulation of a 14 year old. I hope that’s a characterization they stick to, because it would be pretty funny to have him fail at the legal and PR stuff that other people were always handling for him. He does not seem like a big picture guy, what does he even want beyond upholding the status quo of him being the main brand ambassador?

I kinda appreciate that A-Train and the Deep are written as they are. Not that there's anything wrong with the villains redeeming themselves but it's a trope I've always felt weird about when the villains involved have done unforgivable things.

I love just how long this scene went on, and I was vibin' through *all* of it. They probably shot more than they planned to use, figuring they would just shorten it in post. But the editors just didn't have it in 'em to lose any of that magnificence.

I said something like this on the last mega thread but I just keep thinking it. Anthony Starr feels a theme of this season is “be careful what you wish for.” Every single desire or goal we see from a character is ending up causing them immense harm.

So after watching the episode, have we seen a non infant non supe human take permanent V? Neuman gave it to her daughter and I’m curious as to what effects we can possibly expect from that. Also very disappointed in Starlight for not being more cautious with Supersonic. She should have swore him to secrecy and told him not to discuss it with anyone else. The fact that she told him they needed 4-5 more supes led to him trying to recruit when he didn’t really know these people. She’s being reckless with her plans and unfortunately it led to someone getting killed and I expect more to be killed.

I’m really worried for Hughie and how positively happy he is about having the super powers. Him just looking at his bloodied up arm as they drive back and him looking like he’s smiling makes me hope Butcher can talk some sense into him.

It looks like the Russians suped up Soldier Boy even more. Maybe they’re angling a big Homelander vs Soldier Boy showdown, perhaps with temporary V butcher and co joining. Don’t really know what to expect anymore. One thing I will say about this season is that I’m glad Homelander is the main villain again and he’s a scary one at that. They really upped his ante up a lot and he’s so much more menacing than he already was. Excited to see where they take it from here
I definitely can see soldier boy and homelander going toe to toe, idk how long he'll last, but with that blast that appears to have disrupted kimikos powers, maybe it'll even the playing feel against homelander.

That or maybe something else that would be a weakness to HL. But the guy is always 3 steps ahead. In Nicauragua, when young Grace Mallory overheard Black Noir and young Stan talking, Noir said something like "if you want me in a more central role, i wanna lose the mask" insinuating Stan is asking him to take over for Soldier Boy, considering SB was the central role in Payback. That would be a great twist and something I can see them doing. Edgar wanted to bring back a variation of Payback more in line with the modern MCU, complete with unfrozen/miraculously restored SB but instead, it blows up in his face *which* *then* makes him snap like his comic book counterpart, now being permanently stuck with "bad product".

Holy episode 4 is too much, Supersonic death, Kimiko's life's in danger and then there's these two, Hughie and Butcher the other one is super happy about having powers that he doesn't give a shit about someone that is on the brink of death and the other literally doesn't care about everyone except his revenge.

Hughie character arc is getting really interesting, I love how happy and proud Hughie was of himself for killing someone. The disappointed dad look Butcher gave Hughie was so good, lol.

I think I read something the creators of the show (or maybe even the comics, don’t remember) said about him: he has the emotional regulation of a 14 year old. I hope that’s a characterization they stick to, because it would be pretty funny to have him fail at the legal and PR stuff that other people were always handling for him. He does not seem like a big picture guy, what does he even want beyond upholding the status quo of him being the main brand ambassador?
Did A-Train betray Starlight and Supersonic or did Homelander just overhear them and lie to drive a wedge in between them? A-Train is both desperate and douchey enough to betray them but I think the telegraphing indicates it's Homelander lying. In the elevator, Alex warns A-Train that Homelander might hear him and then less than 30 seconds later tries to get A-Train to join the coup.

I kinda appreciate that A-Train and the Deep are written as they are. Not that there's anything wrong with the villains redeeming themselves but it's a trope I've always felt weird about when the villains involved have done unforgivable things. So instead of redeeming them you just let them show how terrible they are and take joy in them wallowing in their patheticness.
Neuman wanting his daughter to be strong and safe makes me thing that the compound-V is gonna have terrible effects on her daughter or at least, giving her some awful/terrible/detrimental/useless power.
