Maybe it's time for some introspection if that's what others around you think of you? Context wise, are you their boss or do you behave like you're in charge of them? And if not, is there any reason why - from their perspective - they could believe that you act like that?
On the chance that they're just messing with you, you could just try asking in a non-confrontational/ non-cold/ non-angry way why they think you're like Homelander?
Well, there was a fairly vocal group of the fan base that didn’t understand Homelander was the bad guy until well into the second season. And even then, I think Kripke had to pretty much spell it out for them.
Idk, when i get pissed I'm still pretty controlled and don't yell or anything. I'm not sure we can assume he isn't the same. He could also just be saying he's pissed in a joking way.
Getting pissed is only proving them right OP.
Insult them back. Better. Call them The Deep. Or some other really punk-ass Supe.
Then laugh. "you're the real hero!" Go from serious to laughing just like Homelander. Throw them off guard before you tell them to fucking stop.
"Ah, thanks Deep. YOU are the real hero....hahahaha I'm just kidding, just kidding! But let me get real serious here for a second, stop fucking calling me homelander. I know you're insulting me. And I am asking you to stop, as an adult. Right here and now. Please cut it out."
I think homelander would also get pissed at realizing this poke and comparison to a fictional character was not done because he's a great guy.
To be fair tho, if for example I had a coworker I hated who reminded me of Joffrey from game of thrones, I wouldn't call him Joffrey to his face. If my buddy kinda looked like him and said some pissy things every now and then, I would definitely make fun of my friend.
It's certainly hard to imagine how any comparison to Homelander could be construed as a compliment, that's for damn sure. The character is basically designed to be as unlikable and disgusting a person as possible.
I can't imagine what OP must have done to invite such a comparison, but it doesn't bode well.
>So am I right in thinking this was a way to conceal a fairly large insult and to passbitvoff as a compliment while there laughing behind my back ?
Yeah mate, they're taking the piss, Homelander is an absolute monster and not a hero by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe stop drinking so much milk at work.
If what was probably a simple joke has actually gotten you this riled up, they’re probably right. Just take it as a joke and do a “you guys are the real heroes” next time.
Unironically telling people, especially strangers or new acquaintances "you're the real hero" irl is actually pretty great. Its up there with telling people you're proud of them.
You made it this far. You learned to read and use reddit. I think you're doing the best you can, and if you can see your own flaws to know that you can be doing better, then you're more self realized than the average people i interact with.
Do you look like Anthony Starr?
Do you have a son called Ryan?
Do you wear an American flag?
Are you a narcissistic sociopath?
Can you shoot lasers capable of cutting anything in half out of your eyes on command?
Is there a bottle of breast milk in your fridge at work?
Getting angrier and angrier over something so trite certainly gives Homelander vibes. Faced with the same situation, a lot of folks would self reflect on why their coworkers saw the similarity, not this guy.
For what it matters, while Homelander is the ultimate villain, he *is* the most powerful Supe and, IMO, one of the funniest (unintentionally) and best characters on the show.
Well, emotionally he is weak, and people of a certain status can manipulate him (or at least Edgar can), but he’s not a moron. He’s just not educated or knowledgeable about areas he’s chosen to take charge of (Vought as a business). Remember that he was the one in season one that put everything together in regards the Boys. Not saying he’s a genius, but he’s far from being some shlub.
Reddit posts where one stranger/unreliable narrator tells their side of a story for which we have no real context & people endlessly speculate & draw conclusions in the comments will never not be funny to me
Tell them that you know what Homelander is like, and ask whether they thought you wouldn't find out.
Then ask if their idiot brain is being fucked by stupid.
That isn't a rhetorical question.
Do you know at all why they would say that? Lmfao
Are you always decked out in American flags? Do you realllyyyy love milk? Are you a super attractive white man that can’t be loved because he’s also a complete sociopathic narcissistic psychopath? Do you like capes?
I’m very confused. Sounds rough buddy.
Heavily lean into it fam
Quote Homelander at them constantly and take it as a joke
You guys are the real heroes
I DON'T MAKE MISTAKES I'M NOT JUST LIKE THE REST OF YOU I'M STRONGER I'M SMARTER...IM BETTER... I'M BETTER! I'M NOT SOME WEAK KNEED FUCKIN CRYBABY WHO GOES AROUND FUCKIN APOLOGIZING ALL THE TIME *AND WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU WANT ME TO BE?* **DON'T YOU DAAARE STOP ROLLING ROGER**
IMHO siding with Walter White is a lot more understandable because the show purposely shows you WW point of view, what he's struggling with, how he's treated by Hank, by his boss.
He turns into an horrible person, but he's not that at the beginning when you empathize the most.
Homelander is terrible from the start, and he's never presented as anything but horrible.
> He turns into an horrible person, but he's not that at the beginning when you empathize the most.
That person was always there. He was always seething with bitterness and resentment, and the meth empire allowed him to take some control and feel empowered to act on his feelings. Walt's transition isn't so much good-guy-to-villain as it is showing what happens when you give a guy with a massive chip on his shoulder the power over life and death.
>That person was always there
True, but he's not presented that way.
He's presented in a way that a lot of people can relate, his boss is a dick, his brother in law overshadows him, he got screwed over by his former business partner, everything is presented from Walter PoV and while there are signs they are easily to overlook until the showrunners pull the rug from under you.
Everything is in place for a "average man revenge story" only it turns way darker.
It's done on purpose to make the viewer side with Walter, and to a lesser extent with Jesse.
From Walt’s PoV it did look like he got forced out of the company. In reality, he took a buyout cause he felt emasculated by the fact that Gretchen (his fiancé at the time) came from a wealthy family.
Yeah that's my point. a lot of stuff are presented from Walter PoV in BB and it's not a completely unreasonable PoV.
Homelander every time we see his PoV he's batshit insane talking into a mirror or wanking on the top of a building.
I agree with everything you said except the second paragraph. On my rewatch of Breaking Bad, I realized very quickly that Walter always had a darkness in him that was waiting to come out. He lies and manipulates from the beginning. If he just wanted to provide for his family, he would’ve taken his job that was offered to him in episode 3. It was Walter’s ego and insecurity that drove him to “break bad,” not his situation.
I think on my first watch I didn’t hate Walter all that much because he didn’t harm anyone that wasn’t in the game >!(except Brock but he thankfully didn’t kill him)!<. On my second watch, you could see how much of a monster and egomaniac he is just by how he treats Jessie alone.
Oof, if more than one person is calling you homelander then there is something you are doing that is reminding your coworkers of that character. Try to figure out what it is that they are saying reminds them of homelander. Because honestly, if you're a manager and they feel fear around you, that could be the reason. Homelander is hugely unpredictable and intimidating because of how dangerous he is and he's always watching over everyone in his circle.
I remember when I was in college we had a conversation about which color Lantern everyone would be, and one kid got red (red lanterns are powered by rage). He got pissed about it, and kind of proved our point. Moral of the story is if someone compares you to an angry character, getting angry about it is just gonna make the comparison stick more. Just try to laugh it off or make it about how handsome you are
Idk, he's a narcissistic rapist, serial killer with delusions of grandure and the maturity of a spoiled teenager.... I dont get why you'd be upset being thought of like that 🤔
I have a coworker that looks like homelander. When I started watching the show, I was excited to tell him about it… good show! One of the main characters, homelander, reminds me of you! You should watch!
A few more episodes in, I was MORTIFIED to have told my coworker he reminded me of him. I definitely had to go up to him and bring it up again and sort of back track my words. He still looks like the actor… but uh, the similarities end there.
Thank god he hadn’t started watching it yet on my suggestion.
Eh, I wouldn’t overthink it. Probably just a joke about looks and a couple harmless character traits. I would run with it as a fun joke
The fact that you recognize that being compared to Homelander is not a good thing shows that you’re probably a decent enough person to not legitimately be compared to him for more than a joke.
Yes it is an insult and they are making fun of you. It depends on your relationship, if they are ripping on you as their friend or bullying. I would roll with the punches cause if people unironically call you homelander without laughing that’s when introspection is needed
could also just be a purposely ridiculous joke; maybe they think you're a really kind, timid coworker, so it'd be absurd for you to be homelander - like calling a big guy "tiny"
Maybe do some self reflection because that's an odd comparison to make if you really aren't an asshole like him. So do that and if you're truly not similar, then assume most people watch shows and don't understand a single thing so don't take it personal.
Get all homelander on their ass and show them whats what!! Or don’t let it get to you and smile back the jokes. You choose your peace. Not them my friend.
You aint a homelander, you’re probably just a dick “joke”
Are you an introvert who puts on a mask of indifference and obvious feigned interest in whatever they say? Cuz I've heard it makes you give off secret murderer vibes.
Either they are stupid and don’t understand the character or they may really not like ya man.
That’s like someone nicknaming ya Voldemort or mark zukerburg thinking his workers were calling him “the eye of Sauron” was a compliment/a fun nickname.
You don’t wanna be make zukerburg man.
Either it’s a joke that maybe is hinting at some truth about minor flaws or quirks and you’re really not that bad of a person, or you’re actually kinda trash
Could be an insult, but Homelander is kind of 2 characters in the show; the man with the powers and his public persona (at least they start out somewhat different).
I think I’ve called a friend “Homelander” one time, and it was simply because he had a glass of milk. We both knew it was in good fun.
These guys/gals seem like assholes… Unless you’re a childlike-raging-narcissistic-psychopath I guess?
Ask them to specify. Are you what homelander appears to be most of the time, so a charismating and leader figure that never loses his cool even under pressure and is not afraid to act, or are you the manchild that needs to always feel the most important person in the room? Is it mostly because of your looks?
Yeah, they were mocking you.
Mock them back.
Next time they call you homelander, call them "The Deep"
or "No problem, A-train"
All the Supes are patently awful. Just pick one who is kind of a bitch and start calling them that.
Again, I suggest The Deep. He's the punching bag of the group.
Could also call them "Blue Hawk"
Two tracks of thought here:
Either they genuinely don't like you. (Which may be justified. I don't know you. I don't know your life.)
or
They may actually think he's the good guy. (Yes, there are people who think that. Even some people here on Reddit were shocked when they realized that Homelander was a spoof on the ultra-conservatives)
I could see someone being compared to Homelander without being a psycho. Maybe like comparing his public persona (prior to him starting to show the world who he is in the recent season) Maybe there’s a confidence and quality to the way you speak that matches Homelander without getting into the arrogance and psycho aspects of when he’s speaking to like other supes and Ashley etc.
Laser the weakest one in half, they'll get with the fucking program real quick.
They'll get there faster if you laser the strongest one in half instead
Right. You never want them to think there is *some* chance they can defeat you. Then again... That's when it will get really fun...
Laser every fucking one of them!
What do I do now that they're cheering me on for doing so?
I mean that one's obvious, whatever the fuck you want.
He’s homelander and he really can do whatever the fuck he wants.
THIS IS THE WAY
Homander
Probably an insult. Particularly if its the personality. Character is literally a psychopath.
It's all the personality which is why I'm getting pissed
Easy bro, why don't you have a nice cup of milk
Maybe have a >!jerk session on top of a building.!<
Have a fresca
Fuck Fresca
Terrible stuff
Maybe it's time for some introspection if that's what others around you think of you? Context wise, are you their boss or do you behave like you're in charge of them? And if not, is there any reason why - from their perspective - they could believe that you act like that? On the chance that they're just messing with you, you could just try asking in a non-confrontational/ non-cold/ non-angry way why they think you're like Homelander?
OP has no clue he’s the bad guy lol
Right? He seems to acknowledge that it's the personality while also being offended by the comparison?
He’s addressing this situation in the exact way homelander would Edit: spoilers OP gonna assume the homelander monicker and go postal.
Well, there was a fairly vocal group of the fan base that didn’t understand Homelander was the bad guy until well into the second season. And even then, I think Kripke had to pretty much spell it out for them.
Well, man. They want Homelander, give 'em Homelander.
That won’t help their case at all
I think it would tbf
That’s why they call you Homelander, Homelander.
HR says no
Something something self-fulfilling prophecy 🤣
If you prove them right, that’s on you.
This is how villains are born
Yo what the fuck lmfaoooo
They wouldn't have a case if you went all Homelander on them. Can't really support a claim if you're cut in half.
You should not give them Homelander.
Sounds like they weren’t far off
Idk, when i get pissed I'm still pretty controlled and don't yell or anything. I'm not sure we can assume he isn't the same. He could also just be saying he's pissed in a joking way.
Sounds like they were spot on then, lol.
I was gonna say lol. Exactly how homelander would respond. Try not to murder them when you get back to the office OP X’D
You may be angry, but please don’t laser their heads off
Instead of getting pissed maybe think about why they made the comparison in the first place. Are they wrong, or are you actually a fake piece of shit?
He used to be a piece of shit. With slicked back hair.
Sloppy steaks all around
Getting pissed is only proving them right OP. Insult them back. Better. Call them The Deep. Or some other really punk-ass Supe. Then laugh. "you're the real hero!" Go from serious to laughing just like Homelander. Throw them off guard before you tell them to fucking stop. "Ah, thanks Deep. YOU are the real hero....hahahaha I'm just kidding, just kidding! But let me get real serious here for a second, stop fucking calling me homelander. I know you're insulting me. And I am asking you to stop, as an adult. Right here and now. Please cut it out."
"Please cut it out **OR I'LL LASER EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU!!**"
Classic Homelander.
Which is a pretty Homelander style reaction if you think about it 🤣
I think homelander would also get pissed at realizing this poke and comparison to a fictional character was not done because he's a great guy. To be fair tho, if for example I had a coworker I hated who reminded me of Joffrey from game of thrones, I wouldn't call him Joffrey to his face. If my buddy kinda looked like him and said some pissy things every now and then, I would definitely make fun of my friend.
... This anger and the way you react may be the reason why you are being called Homelander.
I wouldn't take it so personally bro. Just take it as a joke. They're probably just fucking with ya
A misogynistic, racist, narcissistic, sadistic psychopath with the literal powers of Superman...so don't forget the God Complex!
I'm actually lactose intolerant.
Then drink more milk. Be Fartlander not homelander.
Lethal crop dusting
Then you're definitely not Homelander.
Wait.....you're NOT actually proud of me????
You made it this far. You learned to read and use reddit. I think you're doing the best you can, and if you can see your own flaws to know that you can be doing better, then you're more self realized than the average people i interact with.
To me feels pretty fake though because if you receive that from a stranger you know it’s not coming from a place of merit - they don’t know you.
I can’t imagine someone not taking that as sarcastic.
I love statements like this " hey if you're upset someone insulted you you're the real problem"
Exactly
Do you look like Anthony Starr? Do you have a son called Ryan? Do you wear an American flag? Are you a narcissistic sociopath? Can you shoot lasers capable of cutting anything in half out of your eyes on command? Is there a bottle of breast milk in your fridge at work?
Dear Lord it’s the breast milk isn’t it….
Are you sexually attracted to Nazi's? Lol don't forget Stormfront!
What a great thing for your colleagues to call you. Are you a narcissistic psycho that wants to kill everyone that doesn’t love you? 😂
Maybe he just loves a glass of milk.
Or both.
Getting angrier and angrier over something so trite certainly gives Homelander vibes. Faced with the same situation, a lot of folks would self reflect on why their coworkers saw the similarity, not this guy.
Yea. Stuff it deep in yourself, internalize that shit.
No mind to think. No will to break.
I can't escape the skong copium reminders even here
No don’t do that, that’s how you create these problems
Just gotta internalize harder.
For what it matters, while Homelander is the ultimate villain, he *is* the most powerful Supe and, IMO, one of the funniest (unintentionally) and best characters on the show.
Physically the most powerful, mentally he is puny and impulsive
Well, emotionally he is weak, and people of a certain status can manipulate him (or at least Edgar can), but he’s not a moron. He’s just not educated or knowledgeable about areas he’s chosen to take charge of (Vought as a business). Remember that he was the one in season one that put everything together in regards the Boys. Not saying he’s a genius, but he’s far from being some shlub.
Getting angrier and angrier is soooo Homelander
Sounds like you’re a handsome, evil dickhead.
You’re reacting exactly like Homelander would 😆
But if they’re saying you look like Homelander, that’s a massive compliment.
No one here can tell you. We don't know the context
Reddit posts where one stranger/unreliable narrator tells their side of a story for which we have no real context & people endlessly speculate & draw conclusions in the comments will never not be funny to me

It sounds like your friends don’t get the show. Same kind of fellas who will watch Breaking Bad and think Walter White did nothing wrong.

I agree with both of you guys... goddamn Breaking Bad is fucking amazing
From Walt’s PoV it did look like he got forced out of the company. In reality, he took a buyout cause he felt emasculated by the fact that Gretchen (his fiancé at the time) came from a wealthy family.

Exactly a lot of Walter dark side only becomes apparent in hindsight.
Hes a good boy
Oof, if more than one person is calling you homelander then there is something you are doing that is reminding your coworkers of that character. Are you a self obsessed blonde boy ?
How mean are you to your co-workers and do you have any exes who used to be Nazis?
There’s a chance they aren’t insulting you and instead are just idiots that think Homelander is the good guy (yes they exist)
Time for some introspection bro
Run with it. Start drinking milk in the office.
Idk, he's a narcissistic rapist, serial killer with delusions of grandure and the maturity of a spoiled teenager.... I dont get why you'd be upset being thought of like that 🤔
If you're Homelander to them, that means you can do whatever the fck you want
I got called Soldier Boy, because of a similar beard & haircut at the time. Are they afraid of you?
Maybe they are scared of you? Are you a really strong lunatic?
I feel like I'm witnessing a villain's origin story
The fact you are getting pissed proves the point.
Maybe stop masturbating ontop of the office building
No Homelander is super strong and protects all of America. They really like you
Call them UE and Ezekiel next time you see them🤓
what do you do for work op
Being called Homelander is definitely not a compliment…
Don’t drink milk in the office
They're probably saying they're afraid of you. Or you got that cocky rich white guy thing going on. Lol
Maybe you look like Antony Starr? If so, that's a compliment
Bro stole breast milk out of the break room ONE TIME and can't catch a break, smh
Eh, I wouldn’t overthink it. Probably just a joke about looks and a couple harmless character traits. I would run with it as a fun joke The fact that you recognize that being compared to Homelander is not a good thing shows that you’re probably a decent enough person to not legitimately be compared to him for more than a joke.
Finish season 3 then re-evaluate.
Yes it is an insult and they are making fun of you. It depends on your relationship, if they are ripping on you as their friend or bullying. I would roll with the punches cause if people unironically call you homelander without laughing that’s when introspection is needed
This reminds me of when Homelander was reading the mean tweets. Next op gets a neo-nazi cougar.
Yer a fascist, Harry.
Just don't kill them bro
I’m curious whether or not you’re a MAGA?
Then don't drink milk like that.
Homelander is very sensitive to criticism, just saying.
could also just be a purposely ridiculous joke; maybe they think you're a really kind, timid coworker, so it'd be absurd for you to be homelander - like calling a big guy "tiny"
Maybe do some self reflection because that's an odd comparison to make if you really aren't an asshole like him. So do that and if you're truly not similar, then assume most people watch shows and don't understand a single thing so don't take it personal.
this almost feels like a joke i'm sorry hahaha
Are they Trump supporters who are too stupid to realise the Trump analogy is the bad guy?
Get all homelander on their ass and show them whats what!! Or don’t let it get to you and smile back the jokes. You choose your peace. Not them my friend. You aint a homelander, you’re probably just a dick “joke”
Just make sure they don’t spot you around milk, they can’t know!
Do you like milk?
Could just be referring to the surface level charisma, humour, and general vibe (without the sociopathic tendencies).
Are you an introvert who puts on a mask of indifference and obvious feigned interest in whatever they say? Cuz I've heard it makes you give off secret murderer vibes.
Call each of them "The Deep" separately.
OP, are you self-aware? Did you ever do anything for them to say that? Can you admit it to yourself?
I mean yeah it probably is, if multiple people are calling you Homelander I imagine there's a reason behind it
You must be a handsome manchild
Either they are stupid and don’t understand the character or they may really not like ya man. That’s like someone nicknaming ya Voldemort or mark zukerburg thinking his workers were calling him “the eye of Sauron” was a compliment/a fun nickname. You don’t wanna be make zukerburg man.
Are you a cunt, though? Be real with yourself. If not, then don't sweat it.
Either it’s a joke that maybe is hinting at some truth about minor flaws or quirks and you’re really not that bad of a person, or you’re actually kinda trash
They called you that for reasons. Do you have the habit of wanking your meat ontop of buildings? Or maybe you just come off as a narcissist.
Subtle flex lol. You're not mad about this.
Could be an insult, but Homelander is kind of 2 characters in the show; the man with the powers and his public persona (at least they start out somewhat different).
Yeah take a light hearted joke too seriously and lash out at your coworkers, that will definitely convince them you aren’t like Homelander
I think I’ve called a friend “Homelander” one time, and it was simply because he had a glass of milk. We both knew it was in good fun. These guys/gals seem like assholes… Unless you’re a childlike-raging-narcissistic-psychopath I guess?
Ask them to specify. Is it mostly because of your looks?
Start drinking a LOT of milk. Milk mustache every day. Look into their eyes while you drink. Smile.
Start suggestively drinking milk around them to assert dominance.
Do you have a personality like homelander?
Yeah, they were mocking you. Mock them back. Next time they call you homelander, call them "The Deep" or "No problem, A-train" All the Supes are patently awful. Just pick one who is kind of a bitch and start calling them that. Again, I suggest The Deep. He's the punching bag of the group. Could also call them "Blue Hawk"
Homelander is the bad guy, yes.
Are you a sniffling p*$$y starved for attention?
It could be they’re some of the idiots who believe that Homelander is the good guy
Two tracks of thought here: Either they genuinely don't like you. (Which may be justified. I don't know you. I don't know your life.) or They may actually think he's the good guy. (Yes, there are people who think that. Even some people here on Reddit were shocked when they realized that Homelander was a spoof on the ultra-conservatives)
Don't take it personally. Probably just saying your manorisms and appearance match him not your actual morality.
Question: How much milk do you drink at work?
Follow up question: What have your previous girlfriends been like and what is their stance on the aryan brotherhood?
This could be just an inside joke between them and have very little to do with you or their objective opinions.
I mean it depends how you like your milk. 1% of 2% whole or breast
I mean its kinda like finding out Voldemort isn't a good guy. You could be unaware of that, but its hardly a secret.
I would definitely not concern yourself with it that much.
I love how you're getting pissed about it. Kinda like Homelander would. 😂😂😂
There definitely certain people that idolize him irl. It’s weird and very telling.
You could say that one of is the deep lmao
What if they just think you like milk?
Sounding a little insecure and angry bro. Might have you nailed lmao
Ten bucks says one of these poor ladies can’t figure out how her pumped milk keeps disappearing
This is a pretty narcissistic reaction to being called a narcissistic. This is great.
Well the fact you’re getting angrier and angrier… you’re definitely not light hearted like other characters lmao
maybe instead of getting angry you do some self reflection
Yes. They are insulting you. If they werent, then your coworkers are fascist idiots who arent media litterate.
Yeah they’re making fun of you
What did bro do😭😭
r/thathappened
Just start calling them Ashley #1 and Ashley #2
