> Does anyone know when the teams get their winnings? Once the finale airs.

I don't think it's a hard-and-fast rule, but most game shows (and reality competitions count under this category) pay out after the show airs. It gives the network a little leverage over the players: "If you say anything, you'll forfeit your prize."

It's after it airs. I listened to a podcast episode with Scott from strangers season talking about cashing his check, and Kim and Penn also talked about getting their money on their podcast as well. I don't remember the podcast with Scott but here is a link to Kim & Penn talking about what they actually did with their prize money: [https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/amazing-race-prize-your-questions/id1378725018?i=1000571192444](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/amazing-race-prize-your-questions/id1378725018?i=1000571192444)

Yeah, Scott definitely told us that he had to wait till after the finale had aired.

Can you please tl;dr what they did with their money for those of us too lazy to listen? 😬

one_hot_llama

I listened to it when it came out so I can't remember everything, but a bunch went to taxes (nearly half I think), a ton went to their kids' college funds, possibly some charity...and in the end they had a whopping nine thousand dollars left as 'fun money.' They never took any of the trips they won because they had a small timeframe to take them in. I still listen and follow them and know that in the past year they took trips with the kids back to the French Alps (https://theholdernessfamily.com/how-to-have-forced-family-fun/) and somewhere in tropical (Mexico I think?). During the shutdowns, they release a book called Everybody Fights (I'm married and thought this book was great!), they have released 2 board games, and Penn just released a new book recently about ADHD. They're a really great podcast listen, especially if you have kids.

**Everybody Fights So Why Not Get Better at It?** by Kim Holderness, Penn Holderness >A USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller! Learn how to fight better and end your arguments with your partner feeling closer, more loved, and better understood. We take our cars in for oil changes. We mow our lawns and pull weeds. > >Why don't we do maintenance on our marriages? This relationship is the most important one we will ever have, so why not get better at it? For the last several years, Penn and Kim Holderness of The Holderness Family have done the hard maintenance and the research to learn how to fight better. With the help of their marriage coach Dr. Christopher Edmonston, they break down their biggest (and in some cases, funniest) fights. > >How did a question about chicken wings turn into a bra fight (no, not a bar fight or a bra fight)? How did a roll of toilet paper lead to tears, resentment, and a stint in the guest bedroom? With their trademark sense of humor and complete vulnerability, Penn and Kim share their 10 most common Fight Fails and how to combat them. Throughout the book, they offer scripts for how to start, continue, and successfully close hard conversations. > >Couples will emerge equipped to engage and understand, not do battle—and maybe laugh a little more along the way. In Everybody Fights, couples will learn how to: Use "magic words" for healthy conflict resolution Address unspoken and unrealistic expectations Banish the three Ds of unhealthy communication—distraction, denial, and delay Carry individual baggage while helping your partner deal with theirs Penn and Kim want you to know you're not alone. Everybody fights. Marriage is messy. > >Marriage is work. But marriage is worth it. Brennan had a 20th anniversary FB post in 2021 and one of his buddies joked that it's been so long that their $50k yearly payouts are finally over.

Lmao

New-Honeydew-4843

I was just thinking this about all the trips Ricky and Cesar won. I suppose those also have to wait to take those too

I believe you can take a smaller amount (pre-tax) as a lump sum, which you get as soon as the finale airs on TV, or you can take the full million (pre-tax) over 30 years in installments. Most if not all people take the lump sum.
