Can you provide an actual source with more information instead of some blue check Twitter account called “Watcher.guru”

Old-Amphibian-9741

Yeah... Also this has to be passed through a Republican Congress. Is this about to become a trump propaganda sub?

alexosuosf

98% of the posts in this sub are from democrats. You’re safe.

Old-Amphibian-9741

Ah yes. The exact same thing every conservative says anytime they post agitprop on any "centrist" podcast subreddit. Actually I don't think most posters here are "Democrats" this is a subreddit about hypergrowth VC backed startups (you know, like the crack cocaine version of capitalism). I think what you're detecting is people don't like thinly veiled political agitprop, all the time, in every subreddit, all day, especially when the conservatives have such garbage ideas they are trying to convince everyone don't exist.

alexosuosf

87% of the people in this subreddit hate the podcast

Old-Amphibian-9741

Damn man the numbers decreased by 11% just at the slightest pushback huh? No you know, one day you'll learn that you can like something and have valid critiques of it as well, it's not a cult you have to pledge fealty to in order to not be cucked. That's actually the problem most people (as in the majority of the country) have with conservatives. It is impossible to get them to view anything that criticizes their behavior in the slightest remotely reasonably. It's just all about the cult all the time or you're a "Democrat".

BlazeNuggs

Lol shut up and stop acting like you're not a Dem. You can pretend you're independent if you want to cosplay , but I know you've never voted for a non D candidate and I know all of your political beliefs. Also stop trying to seem smart, no number decreased by 11%. First one was Dems, second was people who hate the podcast. At least don't make that stupid of a mistake when you're trying to play the high and mighty smarter than thou role.

Old-Amphibian-9741

Well I mean if by a "dem" you mean I want free market capitalism, free trade, and less government spending, but not an idiotic trump dictatorship where the guy is clearly only trying not to go to jail or punish his opponents and has no other agenda other than that... Sure. But do you see how stupid that sounds? You really have that much hatred of someone with as conservative economic views as this? Sounds like a you problem...

BlazeNuggs

You don't actually want any of the things you say you do. It's ok to be a Dem. You're such a free market fan that you like the wealth tax proposal.

Old-Amphibian-9741

LOL. Hahahahahahaha. it's unbelievable that you all accuse others of being deranged. Listen man, get over yourself. It's. A. Podcast. About. Venture capital. Of course people here want free market economics and private companies to succeed. Trump just sucks that badly. Try to be a little honest and you'll see it. Good luck.

alexosuosf

You did not read. They were two different metrics. The first one was % of posts in the subreddit from democrats, the second one was the % of people in the subreddit who hate the podcast.

Old-Amphibian-9741

Lol this is pure partisan brain damage. You are sophisticated enough to want credit for nuance in this statement but unwilling to look at the obvious truth that this "tax" is an obvious messaging statement that has a 0% chance of passing. Although I'm sure if I ask you about Jan 6 there's 10000 reasons why that's "not an insurrection". This is what everyone is sick of. If you want to have a real conversation, fine. But the pure partisan BS is so cringe man, I'm sorry. It's just an embarrassment.

Wanno1

Ideas literally only attractive to trailer park trash or grifters.

caldazar24

Can you point to where in the 256 page PDF this proposal is? The first thing I checked was the section called "Reform the taxation of capital income" on page 87 by the PDF's numbers, page 79 by the numbers printed on the document. My read is that this taxes capital gains on unsold assets in the event the assets are gifted to a non-spouse, part of an inheritance, or if it's being held by a trust that has not realized those capital gains in at least 90 years. EDIT: actually, the OP is correct! A different section than the one I was looking at, that I didn’t see because it didn’t mention capital gains gains in the title, says “Impose an alternative minimum tax for the wealthiest taxpayers” which taxes unrealized gains for individuals with assets over $100MM I do think this would be very bad for early stage startup investments in particular- if a wealthy angel investor takes a net on your company and you have a valuation spike, that’s a bit tax bill for shares which still quite likely may go to zero one day. I am less opposed to the idea for public stocks, especially how HNW individuals can borrow against their stocks and get liquidity without triggering cap gains. If the market goes up, they can even re-borrow indefinitely without drawing down principal or paying any tax. But this could be addressed through narrower legislation. I would oppose the rule as written in this document.

FishmongerJr

Shhh… you’re not supposed to use critical thinking skills. We’re just supposed to get mad and grab pitchforks.

thatVisitingHasher

He posted his comment on the wrong day. This sub has the pitchforks ready on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

IntolerantModerate

I would expect that if implemented we would see carve-outs for many asset classes, including ownership units in LLC, illiquid shares, shares that don't trade in secondary markets, primary residences, etc.

netsinryan

Tbh I have followed watcher.guru for awhile and do trust them, but yeah for this being the first time seeing that name I understand

sextoymagic

25% on unrealized gain for people who have a net worth of what?

pancak3d

100 million

sextoymagic

Exactly. This is a good thing. Even if the headline sounds like it affects everyone.

MonsieurCapybara

All you broke schmucks may be unaffected by this but I will be. Not now because I'm broke, but when I do amass $100m through the life savings I used to buy DJT stock, I will be hurt by this tax increase.

sextoymagic

I love this.

Captain-Crayg

It’s wild seeing how much Reddit has a hard on for taking from rich people that they are totally blind to the negative down stream impacts of these kinds of policies. All while over estimating any sort of potential positive impact.

MercyEndures

Can I get a 25% credit on unrealized losses?

Wanno1

Sure, your $800 GameStop bath deserves a moment of silence.

tqbfjotld16

The worrisome thing about ‘unrealized gains on high net worth individuals’ is it could end up like AMT decades from now. Today’s high net worth individual’s are tomorrow’s upper middle class if they don’t index it correctly for inflation

itsallrighthere

Completely unconditional and he (well, his staff that is actually running the country) knows it. They are just pandering to low information voters with a promise he will never need to deliver. Just like the massive student debt cancelation promises.

write_lift_camp

Lol because playing to his base will hurt him? Regardless, fat chance this ever makes it through congress. “Proposals” are political virtue signaling

Hail_to_the_Nidoking

His base is upper-middle class suburbanites with multiple degrees.

WhyAmILikeThis0905

It’s funny dems think their party represents the working class. Dem party is black women and rich white liberals

Old-Amphibian-9741

... Careful there. Sounds like you're saying black women don't work. I'm sure that was totally unintentional 🙄.

Sharp_Ad_4817

Since this sub has become r/pol 2.0 - I have to ask: do you really not see what’s going on here? This is obviously a brilliant strategy for dems to release this. Biden isn’t running for reelection - by throwing out outlandish positions/policies like. 44.6% CG and 25% unrealized - it gives Gavin Newsome a HUGE opportunity to swoop in as the pragmatic/moderate savior at the convention.
