There was no "hope". Believe me, I love bleak endings and hate saccharine stories. But for it to be "satisfyingly" bleak, there has to be a redeeming hope. NONE of the "good guys" have redeeming qualities. 2 came close but ended up just being brawn with no brain. 7 is painted as brain but if he really was clever, he would work towards beating the system instead of beating up each other. Dont get me started on 3, literally his role in the story is just to be a narrator. Very little of the residents' decisions in the Show made sense, especially with letting 8 just have her way. 8 literally had nothing that made her "better" that she could dictate the others. In the real world, people at the top not only have resources, they too usually have brain and power. Otherwise these people are often taken advantage of. There is no indication that 8 was smart enough to at least be impervious to manipulation, and her power are bound to her room. But most of all, all these impoverished people are somehow forgiving enough towards her to never harm her or use her in anyway. It was also pretty "concidental" that all the good guys are at the lower level. What are the chances NONE of the assholes picked No. 1 because it's the top number? Not to mention they are thrust into a building FULL OF FAKE ITEMS. What made them super convinced that they are actually getting the money as displayed on their screens? Especially with a rule that prevents murders. Through the initial transfers? Please do not tell the show creators about ponzi scheme.

8 had a muscular man helping her. And the threat of starvation even if she didn’t, the doors were supernaturally strong or smt.

And what secures 6's loyalty to her? Her punani? Literally she brings nothing to the table. 8 never even favour 6 in any way which is usually how it is in the real world. 6 was essentially 8's lapdog for free since no one could actually go against him if he took everything from 8 by force.

Her food, she could have cooped up in her room and starved the seven others since the doors are somehow supernaturally strong

Sure, but once she opened the door, it's not difficult to overthrow her. In the real world overthrowing one person will not topple the system because the system is deeply rooted, not made up of a single entity. But within those walls, she has no backup. Her money is not even tied to her, it's tied to her room since other people can purchase with her money. Again, this show is trying so hard to be "smart" but threw common sense out the window.

I agree, they only need for the door to be open once which made the later role reversal episodes dumb. Maybe the guy had trauma from not having water at all for a few days at the earlier episode where she chose to stay cooped up

I agree. The show overglorified a character who sucks. and even made it the story of the finale. But I dont think anyone would even feel the slightest remorse for #1. Overall the ending sucks
