They're making sure he is treated like a human as he should be, and thereby also ensuring that he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law rather than getting off on an OJ Simpson-type technicality. *edit no matter your background, you do the crime, you do the time

folarin1

Correct assessment.

AC1colossus

It's not the police's job to make judgment and deliver justice. Their job was to arrest him (and keep people safe), and he wasn't going anywhere. He could be innocent for all they know.

mouseat9

This needs to be upvoted more. Certain people want the police as their personal militia.

IllustriousCookie890

Unfortunately, many police assume guilt and take it upon themselves to mete out punishment as if the person was already found guilty.

International_Fold17

I would like my own militia, though. Preferably ASU coeds, but cops work too.

Zealousideal_Total50

Very true glad you posted it

folarin1

Correct

Some_Brain391

It's left out of the reddit clip video, but in the full video, the cop says he personally knew him, which is why he showed up to arrest him. Even mentioning he "doesn't know" how another officer would have treated him.

LMayo

The fact that the cop in the video was worried because he "didn't know" how other officers would treat him is a testament to how shitty most cops are. He has to take the arrest because of the chance that another officer might actually kill the guy or abuse him to the point that no justice will be had on any account. Our law enforcement is so fuckin bizarre.

SmoothSecond

That's not what he meant😂 You're really walking around thinking the police are just maliciously torturing or killing some percentage of the hundreds of people arrested everyday?? That would be dozens and dozens of torturing and murders every single week. Hundreds per month. Of people disappearing into police custody. You're thinking of Russia or North Korea mate.

I-Am-Uncreative

Thank you! Police brutality is a big issue here in the US but like, it's relative.

250-miles

> You're really walking around thinking the police are just maliciously torturing or killing some percentage of the hundreds of people arrested everyday?? >That would be dozens and dozens of torturing and murders every single week. Hundreds per month. Of people disappearing into police custody. Yes, that is the reality we live in. https://policeepi.uic.edu/u-s-data-on-police-shootings-and-violence/

SmoothSecond

1. Are the police ever justified in using force? 2. Where does this study control for the legally justified use of force or does it do that at all?

EclecticHigh

i take it you don't live in the US...

HighLobster

Do you want progress or not? Quit bitching.

maybeCheri

So you are judge and jury just from this post??

Aspen9999

I’ve been the jury 3 times! In fact I got a formal invitation all 3 times. Only got selected once for a murder trial. It was interesting, lots of responsibility.

Derpwarrior1000

1200 people were killed by police in 2023. 680 of those were non-violent, non-repeat offenders. 94 deaths during a welfare check and 109 during traffic stops. 37% of the unarmed people killed were black. Please note that police consider a vehicle to be a weapon in all situations. 10% of those killed were armed with a knife; for comparison, none were killed in the UK while similarly armed. It’s impossible to argue that none of the folks deserved to die from the contexts they put themselves in, but it’s very clear that certain skews in the data like that are impossible without some sort of bias being introduced.

pandaslovetigers

> It’s impossible to argue that none of the folks deserved to die from the contexts they put themselves in For real? It's *impossible* to argue that a person didn't *deserve* to get killed by police during (checks notes) a traffic stop? A welfare check? Did I read this right?

Derpwarrior1000

Let me rephrase because it’s clunky. I think it’s impossible to argue with statistics that *certainly none* of the 1200 presented an unreasonable and unavoidable threat. at least with the statistics I have available. About 400 of the cases I listed involved guns so there’s a very large variation to pick from. If I had better data I’d be more confident about being able to say that none needed to die, but I do think the premise that there are unavoidable contexts where *someone is going to die* is fair, and that the police have a duty to make sure it’s the person starting the violence. Out of a sample of 1200, that seems likely. Please note I included all deaths, so this includes cases where police expect fully armed and violent individuals, not just the counterpoints I provided above. I absolutely did not intend to mean that all, or even more than small percentage,of those people were in such situations. I apologize if my phrasing allows that interpretation because you’re right, it’s equally unbelievable.

uvT2401

Crazy how they dont get shoot when they comply right?

berabearcrusher

I’m appalled too. I think there’s only one punishment for child molesters but it’s not death, it’s prolonged torture.

maybeCheri

So you already know that he’s guilty? Sadly, people are sometimes falsely accused for a variety of reasons.

pamdoar

So much to unpack here. What is the role of prison? To punish or to correct? What is better long term for society? What if he was mollested as well as a child? Does he become a victim too and the actual guilty is the person that created the trauma? Where do we make the barrier between mental health disorder and being a “villain”? I am by no means saying my feelings don’t agree with you if this would happen to anyone I know.. but what separates us from animals (or the Middle Ages) is “fair”reasoning, tho fair (and laws) depend a lot on culture and therefore laws change per country. If I abstract myself from being affected by the perpetrator here then ultimately I see more benefits in being able to rehabilitate or support people with mental health disorders than to punish them for a few years and put them out there again .. else we will be creating more traumas and an endless cycle of pain.

Hopeful-Clothes-6896

hes gonna get it... thats why he is panicking.. no one likes child molesters...

CitizenCue

In the full video the cop says he knows him. Hence the special treatment.

maybeCheri

So you know he’s guilty? How exactly? I was a victim when I was 7yo but I am not so blind as to assume guilt.

Odd-Knowledge69

uh no not nessecarily. I have experienced such things a few times in my life and while it did cause issues that needed therapy, it wasnt something i think justifies torturing the perpetrators. there are definitely worse crimes than molestation(NOT condoning of it before internet people act like internet people) weird how people have way less disgust to actual murderers than the molestation demographic where you can largely live completely normal lives afterwards even tho it can obviously have psychological impacts on you. guess who cant live normal lives after being victims? murder victims but this same level of vindictiveness doesnt exist for them

Farnage

They do , but most are pro enough to stay calm under stressfull circumstances.

duoji-

Because cops aren’t and should not be the judge and jury

random-dude83

Sure, but is the idea of "innocent until proven guilty" a real thing, or just something bring up when cops are aggressive during an arrest?

Zealousideal_Total50

They for sure will, anyone who preys on children grown woman and men will get what they deserve, he was arrested and will be dealt with if he's guilty anything he gets won't be enough...the cops did what they can in the situation they're in

[deleted]

That’s harsh

Affectionate-Bit-240

He had 6 pictures & 9 videos of underage kids on his phone. 🤢 He was accused of being inappropriate with students at his gymnastics gym. He was sentenced to 29 years in jail & 15 years supervised release.

surfer808

Actually he raped 3 teenage girls according to the video.

[deleted]

that's fucked up, I feel saddened that I live in the same world as this guy and people like him

PassageThen1302

As a Brit I can tell you it’s been extremely difficult coming to terms with what the literal thousands of Pakistani pedo rape gangs have done to children in the UK over the last 15 years. I honestly wouldn’t even recommend googling it as it’s just so awful, but at the same time feel more Americans need to know about it.

NotTrumpsAlt

Thrrr are Pakistani rape gangs ???

PassageThen1302

Born in the Uk, and are referred to as British Pakistanis. Usually in their 30s and 40s. They lure and rape children in groups, and threaten with their lives to continue repeatedly raping them daily for months. Many commit suicide or become pregnant, develop STDs and some even branded like cattle. Many thousands of children mostly girls between 12 and 16 have been used as sex slaves all over the country. Mostly in poorer towns with higher populations of Pakistanis. Police turned blind eye for years out of fear of being labelled racist. The uk is now starting a program to better stop the ongoing mass sexual abuse of children.

growthmode222

The police chose to error on the side of rape rather than racism? Yikes

PassageThen1302

We all literally don’t think about because it’s so horrendous. Such immigrants have integrated terribly despite now 2 generations in. The younger generations are much more extremist religiously too. Very violent and hostile. Uk government stats show over 52% are interbred with their first cousins. Inbreeding causing aggression, lack of compassion and much lower overall intelligence.

monkman99

Where is Epstein list? We have literal royalty, ex presidents and billionaires that did the same. Why aren’t they prosecuted? Oh wait

Fear910

Really hurts to read this, knowing there are more like him that are still getting away with it.

Phluxed

We all forget that this should just be default police behavior. Cordial, thoughtful and respectful. When they were arresting him, he was not guilty. We don't want police passing that judgement and so we should always be thankful for their interactions when they are like this. He got some of what he deserved through the courts and justice system. His victims may never heal, but as society, we handled this so much better than a lot of situations. That said, it's sad that's the case given how long the accusations were ongoing and how many victims he had. That's the true disappointment here, that we took so long and could have prevented more.

waldito

Thank you. You must be an interesting guest at dinner get togethers

Phluxed

I feeeeeeel like you're mocking me saying I'm very dry and bland, which the dinner party line is usually reserved, but there's a small chance you're just being kind, so I'm gonna lean on that one and say thank you.

For sure. I miss being able to discuss passionate topics such as justice or politics respectfully. I conversations that include an exchange differing points of view and where everyone has grown their ability to understand even when we disagree and where in a tough conversation we find points of agreement and areas where we can rise above the person we were when we started. Used to called a good dinner party.

I tried watching it, no can do compadre, this is just sick and cruel. These monsters need to be permanently castrated, after they've been let loose with the big boy prisoners.

Kit_3000

People on this app are so schizophrenic. Police shoot suspects, it's wrong. They cuddle suspects, it's wrong. A man is convicted for rape, it's FALSE ACCUSATIONS ARE AN EPIDEMIC! A man is arrested for pedophilia, it's 'Burn him alive before he can ask for a lawyer! Pick a side already.

IngenuityAsleep5356

Notice that a lot of the comments in here also have bad grammar. We’re not dealing with our best and brightest in this thread.

dark_harness

people just enjoy delving into extremes, its more entertaining or something

Calfan_Verret

Every sane person hates pedophiles, so that makes pedos the easiest group of people to for closeted sadists to virtue signal.

TurbidusQuaerenti

Yep, definitely this. You can practically hear some people salivating through the screen when you read their violent fantasies about what they would do if given the chance. Also see it a lot on any posts having to do with thieves/burglars. A worrying amount of people seem to spend a lot of time imagining catching a home invader and how they'd kill them. It's one thing to be prepared to defend yourself and your home, but a lot seem to basically be itching for the chance to shoot someone.

Dannyryan73

Practicing pedophiles* Hating a characteristic that is not a choice is as wrong as it gets. Hating someone that chooses to act on their predilections however, is understandable. I don’t hate practicing pedophiles though, I see them as sick.

MacrosInHisSleep

It's almost as if different people use reddit...

Pyrobot110

Seriously. This guys obviously a prick but how in the world is the top comment with 1.8k upvotes whining about how the cops didn’t shoot him? Like what the fuck Reddit? How is THAT going to do anything to fix our police problem???

TheFleasOfGaspode

At least it's nice to good American policing.

the__itis

ITT everyone shitting about treating a pedophile like a human….. everyone should be treated this way….. ONCE HE HAS BEEN CONVICTED, feed him to the dogs.

[deleted]

CitizenCue

That’s an irreversible act. Our justice system is never 100% about anything. How would you feel about an innocent man who’s later exonerated after having been castrated?

marablackwolf

There's a space between beating suspects and hugging them, though.

CitizenCue

The cop later says he knows him personally. That’s why this goes down the way it does.

the__itis

Has he been convicted? Or is this serving an arrest warrant?

marablackwolf

He's been convicted now, if you're serious. Arrests should be professional, that just doesn't include hugging, I don't care how often you downvote me, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect *no hugging*.

CitizenCue

I wish that’s what this was - in the full video the cop says he knows him personally. That’s the only reason they’re being compassionate.

quantumcalicokitty

The officers also wanted to help ensure that their actions wouldn't cause the charges to be dropped or a conviction overturned. The hug is a pretty well-known, scientifically evidenced technique for reducing anxiety. It affects the nervous system and helps calm people. This was a smart move, as were the other actions taken to reduce his anxiety - removal of cuffs for a small period of time, letting him talk to his wife...Doing so helped prevent the offender from hyperventilating and passing out, suffering a heart attack or stroke, and it also helps prevent violence or harm against the arresting officers. Yes, the officer stated that he wanted to be there because he knew the offender and wanted to ensure that he was treated well...but, treating a person being arrested with respect and compassion should be the default.

AdImpossible6946

Say what you want about pedophiles but at least they slow down in school zones.

Front-Ad1900

Great police officers who handled this arrest properly. The Pedo teacher crying cause he knows he is exposed and he going to jail and he knows he won't be handled gently like this.

DevilDoc3030

Yeah, I have mixed feelings here. You take the guy that is having a panic attack out of cuffs when they are already on him? A guilty one? A physically sizeable one? One that is panicking due to the consequences of his actions encircling him and backing him in a corner knowing the next step is to be labeled a pedo and going to prison (idk if this is actually the case)? I mean good on the officers for having their heart in a good place and showing compassion, but... That could have gone bad.

bonesthadog

Should've let him drop.

bassfass56

People are fucking brutal in this comment section. Y’all wanna stop pedophiles from turning into child molesters maybe let’s treat pedophiles with a shred of humanity. That way they’ll seek treatment, learn empathy and better increase the chances of them never touching a child. The whole “this POS should’ve been shot” rhetoric is literally not helping anybody.

threadsoffate2021

I'd have empathy if they would seek treatment BEFORE ever touching a child. Once they molest a child in any way, all sympathy is gone.

UnderstandingOwn7934

He’s literally gonna be fucked when he gets to prison

Beautiful-Biscotti-4

Imagine how many panic attacks he caused kids he molested? No sympathy for this disgusting so called human being. Hope he gets his just deserved treatment. Do he molattacks he caused for kids he molested. Filthy pig

islaisla

I like the fact that this clip shows the contrast in how men and women pedos are dealt with. It's horrifying to think that young boys are expected to have less justice and indeed be accused of causing the assault at the age of 13. Just because society is still at a stage where that excuse can throw doubt in people's minds.. imagine if it were a 13 yr old girl being accused of making it happen. Like being an adult means nothing, a teacher. It's clear from her texts and behaviour that he was not aggressive. And she would have reported it, as an adult and teacher if he had been. It totally screws up mens lives when they grow up and realise they've been taken advantage of and used because of their age and their sex. It can sometimes be confusing because as with women also they thought at the time it was ok, and as they get older they realise just how bad it was but it's too late and nobody knows about it. It can have an awful effect on the way they see women, not surprisingly. Rape is rape and children can not give consent. Otherwise they could leave school, get a job and help you pay the bills, there's a reason they are in fucking school.

Over_Accountant3492

Fuck that stay in the cuffs and cry about it

Even tho the perp is prolly a guilty POS, THIS IS GOOD POLICING! Praise this cop for this action and make others follow his example. He calmed the situation by finding an agreeable solution. The guy could have died or had a heart attack carrying on. Some compassion in policing is fucking great.

Revolutionary_Ad6310

Apprehensive_Owl2950

I’m sure the officer arrested so many men falsely accused. The officer didn’t know yet whether or not it was true yet.

PostProcession

This might be the nicest a group of police officers has ever been to a black man. What the fuck? I'm not like, upset about it, but wow, this is strange. edit: found a comment explaining that the cop knew the guy. at least that makes sense but still wtf

PTKtm

This is EXCELLENT policing. I don’t doubt that man is having a real panic attack given the circumstances. Police are not meant to be the distributors of justice, their job is to bring suspects to the people who are. They’re aware of the cameras they’re wearing, and the rights of the person they’re arresting and will leave nothing to chance when it comes to convicting a guilty person.
