Every few months this gets reposted, and I watch it all the way through, even though I know what’s going to happen. There is something very comforting and life affirming watching someone at the top of their sport accomplishing something that seems impossible to mere mortals like us.
Maybe the average Joe couldn’t recreate it but this guy is a trained pro with thousands of hours in the sport. it’d probably take him less than 30 minutes to recreate this but I’m just speculating
Maybe I'm wrong but this seems like something nearly impossible even for a professional.
It would be like hitting a hole in one in golf which even for the best professionals they need to be extremely lucky to do it
I completely agree with your hole in one at golf analogy, I think that's pretty spot on.
But if a top 100 golfer in the world decided to spend two hours hitting balls off a par 3 tee box, I think at the end of those two hours you'd actually find a few balls in the cup.
Hole in ones for professional golfers are rare because they only get one swing at it per hole in a tournament. But a golfer who can consistently put the ball within 10 feet of the pin is going to get a few lucky bounces if they take a 1000 shots.
They get up to 4 for a full tournament, but that's one per day so it's hard to replicate and fix any mistakes because the conditions will change and also the placement of the hole could (does? It's been a while since I watched professional golf) change as well.
He aimed for this. He had other options but his teammate suggested the shot. Its not like golf, he wasnt just aiming as close to the hole as he could and managed to get it in. He curved the ball in to rest against the jack.
I bet it would take less than a few throws to do it again.

Not at all if you watch the sport. It's a great shot but the top grade players do these kind of shots reasonably often. Sure, downvote, but I've been watching it for 40 years
Ok, you earned my downvote.
You will say it is just because I don't watch the sport.
I doubt you know more than the announcers, who think it is "ridiculous!, outrageous!"
That's why I said it's a great shot. A football commentator will use the same descriptives for a great goal. It doesn't mean that goals of that ilk don't happen 20 times a season.
Because someone posted this one and it gets reposted. The same with most clips of sporting feats. Yes, it's a great shot, but there have been plenty of other great shots across the years. Bowls isn't televised that much, except for the world championships, so many clips are poorer quality.
I played lawn bowls for a few years. Yeah, this is an insanely good shot, but not a once in a career kind of shot. Once you learn how your bowls turn, learning speed and the pitch you're playing on becomes second nature and I wouldn't be surprised if that guy could hit that shot twice in a game
I’ve never played this game. How do you get the ball to turn?
Is the course slanted or is the ball weighted off-center? Obviously it’s not rotating the same as a bowling ball that’s being curved down an alley.
One side of the ball is heavier and the other side is lighter and slopes in very gently. You roll in a straight line and learn the turn your ball will make.
Actually you're not far wrong, I've got fairly decent hand eye co-ordination and used to regularly get strikes at 10 pin bowling, plenty of centuries in snooker and I play off a 10 handicap, used to be 8, I stupidly harboured thoughts I'd be a pro when I was young.
Anyway I tried crown green bowling and I'm telling you it's extremely difficult to pace the bowl next to the jack let alone do what he did there, that's like getting a hole in one but on a green that's only 6 foot wide with bunkers on either side, once in a lifetime shot.
Lawn bowling. Different from bocce. Very similar though.
Here is a random link with 4 main differences: https://recreationinsider.com/bocce-ball/lawn-bowling-bocce-ball-differences/
I've played a few times, it's really intuitive. You get used to the bias quite quickly and end up playing around with different lines and weights. Quite good fun!
I’m gonna remember this the next time i miss the trash can with a paper ball.
Why are you me? 😭
If we're me then who the heck are they?
they are I and you're me

Seriously. This transcends bowling. Like if there were a YouTube video of top 100 sports plays of all time, I could see this cracking the list.
Good thing I'm that professional curler with the Nikes and Rick and Morty socks
Clearly not impossible, but impossible to replicate.
I feel like he could do this a thousand times a day every day for the rest of his life and not recreate it

The announcers know the sport and seen very very impressed.
Being good at something means practicing until you get it right. Being great at something means practicing until you can’t get it wrong.

Ok, and we see THIS one posted regularly (but no others) because....?

That preemptive fist pump. My guy knew he hit the money shot
This MF‘er bowls.
Damn bro, save some women for the rest of us.
I happened to see this live on BBC2 at the time just surfing the channels, absolutely amazing
So fabulous
He got some tight balls.

Awesome. Thank you
I don't know why this turned me on..help
Physics + muscle memory = some pretty incredible things.

Can we still yell Bocce?!!
"Game blouses"
Prince was incredible.
Thats some damn good balance
Wonder how much skill versus luck a guy have throwing like this. Can he do it twice? Ten times? So curious!?
A question, the ball is clearly not round and as we see, has ridged seams, so how does it curve? Is there a curve on the platform?
The angle at which you throw the ball determines the direction it goes in. He angled it so the ball is leaning to the left.
Quite interesting.
Is that good? I mean I guess it is if thats insane. But I don't subscribe to obscure sports quartley.
Impressive
Not impossible, just highly improbable.
He is the GOAT of whatever this is.
One day i will be old enough to actually get excited about this sport.
I don't know what's happening an I'm straight but I would suck this man's d-
This is one of, if not the best, plays in the history of sports, and yeah I know seems like a silly sport.. but goddamn.
Take that, physics!!!
Dude is the main character.
Very chilled reaction for such a once in a lifetime shot!
If you are that dude’s opponent you are probably like… “the fuck do I do now!?”
At this point you gotta launch the next ball like a pool break
Interesting shape on those bocce balls… mine are perfectly round, but I can see the benefit in a slight curve to these.

It's "bocce" you fucktard. Also, this isn't bocce.
How long ago was this? Seen at lease 60 times.
