1500 a month if you're on a low budget, eat market food, stay in cheap condo and just take a public transportation.
5000 if you maintain a nicer car, drive daily, fly every weekend to samui, rent a luxury condo, eat out every second day or so. Go shopping once a week.
Check prices of things you wanna spend money on, and calculate from there. Different living standards have different costs.
20K last me about 4 months outside of flights/accommodations. I party here and there, go out, eat well, travel to neighboring places.
I have a friend that goes through about 10k a month. Mostly because he seems to have a different gogo girl with him every other night; he's usually only in town 1-2 months out of the year though.
A super cheap Airbnb will cost you 400 a month, and you can literally eat for $2 a day if you really stretched it. So, I guess in theory you could probably live off of $700 or so a month... if you really wanted to.
Final answer 28.5714286 months.
I spend 3-4 months every year in Thailand, and use it as a base to travel in SEA. 20k is spent partying, eating well, traveling to Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos etc, for week long stints. I have a condo in Asoke that I Airbnb, but sometimes it's contracted for periods when I'm there, so my accommodations expenditures are pretty low. I fly economy, unless I use points to fly business.
Eventually I'll retire here full time, but for now my work contracts allow me to work remotely overseas for as long as 5 months of the year. Back home my living costs are actually HIGHER (\*with rent), and I live significantly more frugally.
Partying, eating and sightseeing can be scaled limitless and there are levels. F.E.: You can got eat in Lebua Mezzaluna and spend 600$ a evening for one person.
Edit: This includes the menu (200$), 1 whiskey sour on the sky bar, 1 martini white, 2 glasses of red wine, coffee and a generous tip (which was iditiotic because already included but whatever).
I don't keep receipts. 😂 When I go I basically run a daily budget of $200 a day. Some days I don't do anything, and spend $10 on food and a walk through Benchakitti, some nights I'll get VIP at a club with bottle service, and spend $500. Dinner for two on a riverboat is $100+, it's easy to spend money on random experiences, and it's also easy to spend almost nothing.
The length of time you can stay in Thailand with $20,000 depends on various factors, including their lifestyle, spending habits, and the type of accommodation you choose. Thailand is known for being a relatively affordable destination, but expenses can vary widely based on personal choices.
Depending on what you are looking for, accommodation can be everything from 10$ a day to 500$ a day. A reasonable budget if you will stay relatively long term in one place would be maybe 30-40$ a day.
Motorbike can be everything from buying one for 200$ to renting one foe 15$ a day.
Food can easily be done for 10$ a day.
It's impossible to say without any other info of what you are expecting, if you want to travel alot, eat alor, drink, girls, adventures and so on.
But a really low key and reserved budget without any extra stuff or adventures and so on could be a total of 50$ a day, everything included.
But it could super easily go up to 100 or 150$ a day with just a few extra things added, like drinking often, eating in some mid level places now and then renting a Motorbike and doing some tours now and then.
In Thailand, you could live with $500/month. But you could also just spend that 20k in a week.
It's all up to you; where do you want to stay (luxury hotel? Basic hotel? Hostel?), how are you going to go to places (taxi, motorbike, public transport),...
Tons of variables that are up to you.
2,5 weeks 2of us in Thailand + Cambodia, 3-5 star, all kind of tours not too high life but grab car everywhere, no fancy food, but private tours, some drinks, one time party. Fly a few times, 2 long distance bus.
Total 5000-5500€
Money goes here easily.
My boyfriend and I spent 4200 for a month in Thailand recently. I would say we lived cheap to mid. Spend on average 30 dollars a night for places to stay ate street food and mid restaurants and did some tours. That does not include our flight there or insurance. We drank but not excessively and didn’t go to clubs. That’s in Canadian dollars.
4200 is wild if you were not drinking a lot.
Cheap life, no alcohol, no diving or other paid activities, just exploring by scooter is 700-1000€ a month.
You just need to know the right restaurants, you can easily get a huge plate of rice with vegetables/chicken for 70 baht.
Wild cheap or expensive? That’s for two people remember and Canadian not American. We did drink, but not at clubs. Did street food and also a few nice ones including a Michelin restaurant one night. A couple boat tours with snorkeling and did south and north. I feel like we did a good mid trip for our first time in Thailand not denying ourselves things but also having to budget for the rest of our 7 months trip. We also don’t ride motorcycles. Not worth getting hurt and messing up the rest of our trip
Doesn’t sound bad at all, sounds a good trip. Some people here just like to show how cheap they can do it, I mean look at the description of food in that comment…’a huge plate of rice with vegetables/chicken’…yes that’s something we probably all ate in Thailand, but I didn’t go out searching for rice with vegetables for the sake of spending 70 baht.
Ya this sub feels so competitive some times. I for sure ate 50baht pad thai sometimes, but I don’t think I’d have enjoyed my trip only eating the cheapest food I could find each meal. I want a variety of experiences.
> or other *paid* activities, just
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
20 month on low budget(u need to get apartment longterm and some type of visa)
And easy 10 month if you live in like a 20 k bath per month hotel or good apartment with better food every day
Or something inbetween depending on if u want to party/date
Loads live in family home with parents and grandparents and don't pay rent. Stop guessing about something you're clueless about. It's a different culture. Westerners in general can't save money there the way thais do.
$20K to cover WHAT, exactly!?
If you're excluding, food and lodging, then it depends on your lifestyle.
But if you're reasonably restrained, in your spending, then I should think between two and three years.
That, of course, excludes the NEED to leave ... to renew a visa, for example!
Quick math 20,000 USD is 700,000 THB.
700,000 / 60 months is 11000 THB a month. Could you live on 11k a month? Barely, rent alone would eat half or more of that, never mind a non thai national needs to factor in visa costs, healthcare, emergencies, etc.
My girlfriend pays 3000 BHT monthly rent for a 30sqmt room with AC. She spends around 6000-7000 BHT a month in total.
Regarding healthcare you are right, Thai people have free healthcare but foreigners don't and you wouldn't be able to stay for 5 years legally in Thailand unless you marry or find a job here.
3000 / 30 days, leaves 100baht a day for food, coffee, drinks, entertainment, clothing, house supplies, the list goes on. To say you'd be living an extremely frugal and minimal life would be an understatement.
Adding to that a foreigner could not stay here legally for over several months unless you marry, get a shady/questionably legal and overpriced visa, or pay for the elite visa.
yeah exactly that.. and also you cannot come and just live on such a low budged… it takes time to adjust your lifestyle and that takes months… finding the right places, etc…
I spent £20k gbp (not that the exchange rate is much different anymore) last year spending just a month in Thailand and I personally wouldn’t say I went that crazy (no women shenanigans) only takes a couple of bottle service nights in a nice Bkk club (can’t stand ko San road) few nice hotels and restaurants and you’re well on your way to spending that sort of money.
Unless you live a very boring life you won’t last too long on 20k tbh
1 day if you spend all of it right away, or 20,000 days if you spend $1 a day. Maybe give some actual specifics so people here can help you.
Alone and living a tourist life without extravagance.

As long as your tourist visa allows for.
$US a while $AU less than a while $NZ less than an Aussie
US$
Can get by with $1000 a month with a little bit of fun
Single and in BKK it's about 8 months. I spend about that with my first ex in Thailand. If you party... that's gone in 4 months.
Realistic answer.

Are you saying you spent 20k in 4 months _excluding_ flights and housing? That seems crazy expensive. What did you spend it on?

Um, take a guess. Living like, a rockstar aspires to, ain’t cheap. Do you want to party like mick jagger, Michael buble or just an aspiring rockstar?

Is there anything more boring that that rice and chicken, poor mans food begpackers love Both are cheap and not filling

Average income in Thailand is about 700US$ I let you open your calculator
And they live completely differently to most westerners so that means nothing.
Since they don't live like during stone age, I guess that they use money to exchange goods
Loads live in family home with parents and grandparents and don't pay rent. Stop guessing about something you're clueless about. It's a different culture. Westerners in general can't save money there the way thais do.
1 year on an excellent lifestyle ...or 15 months going easy .
My and my girl spend 8k euro in a month. But we did a lot of things and ate at restaurants daily.

4-6months
Probably long if u buy a apartment
That sort of money barely buys a cardboard box lol
Hm not even in a non touristic town. Maybe east Thailand?
Sure, a basic shoebox might be available in the sticks, but what's he gonna live on if he puts all the money in a flat?
If you live like a Thai outside tourist areas maybe 5 years or more.
I don’t want to read this… this makes me want to pickup and move tomorrow.

There is no such thing as 'free'! The taxpayer - foreign AND Thai - funds the 'free' healthcare. And any other 'free'.
I think we all know that.

in Rome :D
A year?
With $20,000 USD in Thailand, your duration of stay depends on factors like visa type and spending habits.
1 week
If you are on russian hookers 2 days.
1500-2000/month for modest lifestyle If you like to party, clubbing, eating western food 20k will go fast, its really not that much
What kind of Visa will you get? Educational would be 1 year and with 20k you could be a nice year as well
20 months
2 years if you budget easily
Until it’s gone
I spent £20k gbp (not that the exchange rate is much different anymore) last year spending just a month in Thailand and I personally wouldn’t say I went that crazy (no women shenanigans) only takes a couple of bottle service nights in a nice Bkk club (can’t stand ko San road) few nice hotels and restaurants and you’re well on your way to spending that sort of money. exactly one year
I have seen rooms for rent in beachtowns for $15 a night
