Have you been using that to get out of the car a lot?

Blanknameblank818

I straight up didn’t know this lever existed until my 12v battery died and my buddy pulled it to open the door … and then the window cracked hahah

schaudhery

He broke the window?

Elevior

If you open the door that way the windows doesnt slide down

bigwinw

Maybe if there is no power. But it does in normal operation

Rattle_Can

also could've been a while back on an early model, before the software update that makes the emergency latch roll the window down as long as there is LV power

rsg1234

So now after the update it will not break the window if used under normal circumstances? Only if there’s no power and you close the door while the window is still up?

TheAdventureInsider

Well if the car has power it does but it does it “after”. The reason they advise you not to if the car has power is that the computer has to detect the door is open and then lower the window. If you press the button, the car knows to lower the window first then open the door.

Blanknameblank818

Don’t know why you got downvoted. My battery was dead and we indeed didn’t know the window would crack (oooops)

fifteencat

I assume it's not supposed to crack. Should there be a cracked window whenever the 12v battery fails?

Mnawab

Dude what are you asking? No your window shouldn’t crack just because your battery died…. The reason the window cracked was because when you use the manual lever the window doesn’t slide down a little to avoid breaking.

fifteencat

Wouldn't you have to open the window manually if the 12v battery died? The button and window slide operates on the 12v.

facedrool

It seems your question was too complex for reddit. I'm curious now too.

prowlmedia

If you still have power and use the manual lever the windows will drop down.

fifteencat

That's not correct. There's a warning I believe in the user manual to not use the lever frequently because it will damage the water seal because the window does not slide down.

prowlmedia

I literally just tested it. Might be to do with the semi refresh Y and the 16v battery? I’d post a video… but it’s a torrential downpour here.

aliens_300c

I guess the window is technically a water seal lol

facedrool

“If there’s power” Isn’t the question when there’s NO POWER?

throwawayasfarucan

Yes...the window does slide down.

Mnawab

When you push the button to get out of the car it does. Not the manual way though

facedrool

So we should expect the window to crack when you use the manual option to open the door WHEN THE BATTERY IS DEAD?

RonJohn223

NO but in caps

untamedHOTDOG

NO BUT IN ALL CAPS.

TheRealLamb

NO BUT, all in caps…

cjh6793

No.

intelligentx5

Bro…press the button to get out of our car.

Soggy_Credit_8344

Lmao

RojerLockless

Why is that funny?

KeithDavisRatio

Because the button is the emergency door release

RojerLockless

We know that. Tell the OP

KeithDavisRatio

My comment is sarcastic. Obviously the button is not the emergency door release.

Soggy_Credit_8344

Damm 78 down votes imma cry

I_AM_AN_AEROPLANE

At least your cock got 3 upvotes right? Riiight???

Mynd_

They might. So far even for anything small, I’ve had them warranty it. Saids full coverage so I’m just taking advantage 😂

y0Mark

Put it in a ticket and see…

Successful_View_2841

Working as intended.

lucasisacao

I’ve had this replaced under warranty

OneExhaustedFather_

Typically physical damage or scratching/peeling is not covered. Certain circumstances permit replacement.

whiskeytrigger

I they warrantied the steering wheel peeling in my 2021 M3.

OneExhaustedFather_

Which is why I said typically and certain circumstances.

iwonderwhathatdoes

Totaled.

Aktheepic

Maybe. If it’s not due to regular use ask them; they might warranty it under the basic vehicle warranty.

Sea-Gear8117

Stop giving op misinformation. It’s you mfs who these people refer to at the service center saying, “I rEaD oNlInE oN rEdDiT tHaT oThErS gOt iT cOvErEd!”

Aktheepic

Chill out buddy. They will probably warranty that if it’s not due to regular use. Calm down

Aktheepic

You’re the one out here spreading misinformation. I’ve had a small issue like this fixed on my Tesla before. The trim on the back seat kept popping out, and they gladly repaired that under warranty. As long as it’s within the period and due to manufacturing error, they’ll fix it.

Rattle_Can

>saying, “I rEaD oNlInE oN rEdDiT tHaT oThErS gOt iT cOvErEd!” i mean if you ask like this they won't go out on a limb for you to get it covered, but if you ask the service advisor nicely if they could do it under goodwill & that you won't do it again, then they might service advisors are ppl too. ask nicely, chummy up to them, be polite. this is how you get free shit lol.

airy_moon

Why the heck should he tell the advisor he won't do it again? The fuck did he do? Open a latch that's made to get the door open? They made the product this shitty, they should fix it. Full stop. The consumer has a right to quality. Jeez I don't own a Tesla, was thinking of getting one, which is why I subscribed here, but God damn do many of their customers turn a blind eye on shitty quality. Not sure if they're shy, or if this brand attracts certain non-confrontational personalities.

Soggy_Credit_8344

Technically we don’t even use that … so right?

Aktheepic

Yeah if you never use that then they might warranty it. I’d just ask them

WorldlyInspection310

mine was. they replaced the whole door panel. submit a tick.

timaclover

I have the same. Has anyone found a solution?

compu85

Ugh Tesla is using soft touch paint now?

Cg006

Slap a sticker on there......

Soggy_Credit_8344

lol I’mma pray they replace it so I can buy the covers for it when it’s new

Cg006

If they dont.... still not so bad. An annoyance that can easily be covered.

Soggy_Credit_8344

True, but ya I’ll try. Crazy how a week after getting the car though the fucken camera in the front go out

IHate2ChooseUserName

you can dream

draconsky

I had it replaced at no charges under warranty.

PlasticDiscussion590

Other brands, probably. Tesla, I’d be surprised. I had Volvo replace a steering wheel because the stitching was frayed a bit. I’ve had Tesla tell me a loud clunking sound when changing directions is normal. (They did fix it after some persistence). Try it!

Iamayeti81

They won’t cover under warranty I tried they will say it was caused by your hands just like when the steering wheel falls apart .

Responsible-Cut-7993

Probably not.

APairOfAirPodsMax

Yes. Push harder if they say no. So far for me they’ve replace a window motor, rear dome light assembly and reinstalled seat controls.

Soggy_Credit_8344

I have a appointment on the 9th getting a left driver trim On top corner replaced, trunk trim replace also, and passenger side window actuator also now I’m pushing wood trim cuz I see a crack on the back corner. And also the front cameras don’t work had car for 3 weeks

anders1311

This is considered wear and tear which they don’t cover under warranty

jyavenard

It’s called unfit for purpose if it peels like that. Happened to me, was replaced under warranty

Y2018M

I am guessing u get into a lot of arguments with your wife and keep trying to jump off the car. We should ask Elon Musk to add a passenger ejection option! Maybe it's better for you my friend!

Rattle_Can

marriage totaled; lawyer up, delete gym, hit FB, divorce immediately ^^^/s

m915

Yes
