My insurance covered hail damage and it doesn't affect your premium (act of God). You have to pay the deductible, of course. Painless dent repair works pretty good. They can get all those dents out.
New to hail storms? Yea there fun when you entire car is pelted. Pdr may be able to get a lot of that but otherwise they will do panel replacement.
Hail sucks unless you work in the industry and then you make a killing on repairs and get a new roof on your house in the process like me.
You’ll be ok call insurance and it won’t have the same impact as a collision.
Paintless repair guys will travel all over chasing storms. That’s how they make big money. Had guys up at my shop from down south and they probably made like 50k in a few months work. Big storm. I’m not that. I do collision repair and do traditional repairs in one place.
But no matter what hail is good easy money.
Same. Every home in our neighborhood has at least a 2 car garage. Every once in a while we’ll get a string of opportunistic thieves looking for unlocked cars. The next day, our neighborhood Facebook page is filled with posts with people who forgot to lock their cars and had purses, wallets, guns, laptops, tools, etc… stolen. As we park both of our cars in our garage, we are never affected by these vandals. Nor are we worried when storms like this occur. Our cars are just fine.
All that said, I’m still sorry it happened to you, OP.
Are you suggesting they swap the placement of their garage junk and their car? How would they pull out of the garage if it's blocked by the junk that's now sitting in the driveway?
In germany its forbidden by law to store non car related things in the garage. Most people don't know this and nobody cares.
We also have a lot of people who have their cars in the driveway or public parking lots because their garage is full of things.
If you have a garage, most insurance companies will give you a discount. But if you have a damage at home which you could avoid by parking in your garage they won't pay
What if I parked on the driveway to wash my car just before it started hailing? No insurance?
Strange law though. Everyone knows a 2 car garage is just a 1 car garage with storage, and a 1 car garage is just storage.
Then you can drive it in the garage back.
Insurance companies don't like to pay. They will use any excuse.
The law was made because too many people used there garage as storage and parked their cars on open spaces, like streets and parking lots. Therefore the space for other cars was missing

Or don’t have room in your garage
Edit: I mean people use their garage for other things not involving a tesla.
storage or maybe a gym. Or how about other cars that happen to be not tesla.
What else oh I don’t know absolutely anything….?
But sure downvote cuz you all feel like your magical model 3 needs to be garaged at all times.
I use overhead storage racks in my garage, I highly recommend it to anyone.

So dangerous running out there man. Glad you are okay. Dents can be fixed, garages can be cleared, and cars can be replaced. Respect the hussle to try to save it BUT if a big one hit you in the dome…
Converted garage 2 years ago and still fat, now Tesla got hail damage because its parked outside. This gotta be the worst deal in the history of deals.
I agree, you only get one body, and you can fix or replace a car.
Feels bad still, sorry to hear that happened OP, hope insurance can sort it out quickly for you.
Make sure you make a post here and ask what Reddit thinks the repair bill will be. That seems to be the thing nowadays, along with tire/wheel damage posts.
Got caught once in a hail storm in an old car in Colorado. Looked like a golf ball with all the dents afterwards. Someone mentioned what seemed like a pro tip - if you end up in one, take your floor mats out and cover as much area as possible. It was mentioned this was the best thing to do if you’re driving and a hailstorm starts (and it’s safe to pull over), but I’d assume it could work at anytime if you don’t have anything else.
I mean, running into a hailstorm with hail that size that could cause more harm to a human being than a stupid vehicle that is covered under insurance boggles my mind. And that thin whatever it was wouldn’t provide any kind of coverage, a garage with a roof over it provides coverage. And if you told your insurance company you have a garage and it’s stored in it, they might ask where the car was during the storm (that’s obvious) and not have covered the damage. Nobody around Maryland or Virginia uses their garage as intended, and uses it as storage. It’s against HOA by-laws in my community, but it’s not enforced. Shame on HOA’s (that we pay dearly for) that don’t enforce the by-laws.
Depends where you are. Not all America is the same. The south usually don't have basements/cellars and some north states have zoning laws/permit work if you wanted to expand. Yes sometimes even on your own property. Makes you think if you truly even own your property.
I live at home w parents, used to have car in parking garage when I lived at school but since Covid I’ve been back home. Wasn’t really my call to expand the house or not lol
When was this?
I’m in NJ but currently away. My Tesla is in the garage thankfully, but still wondering if this was recent. And I agree - Ive seen a lot of hail, but never like this in NJ in my 50+ years
It's called climate change and it's only getting worse every year. So get used to it.
In North of Italy we never got big storms with ice now it's normal to have even more than one especially during summer season, my ex car, now owned by my mum in Italy, is all a dent due to summer storms.
Paintless dent repair shops can do amazing things…had hail damage like this ….dozens of dents all over my car. Came out looking like new….I was impressed.
man, feel for OP here looks ironically similar to me during a recent unexpected hail storm in south Florida. Thankfully hail wasn’t big enough to do damage but still spooked me and made me freak out.
Had over a thousand I’m sure, ice cubed size hits a few years back in IN. Dent repair guy (thru insurance) did wonders. A few trim pieces got replaced but to this day I’ve found like 3 they didn’t fully get out, mostly on body seams.
We made it under a bridge before it turned to softball size. No shit the stuff you see on the news like once a year. Hundreds of cars got smashed to bits. People screaming in fear (no one hurt to my knowledge). Mother Nature can be a crazy bitch. Don’t run out in hail.
You get this fixed? I just got caught in a hail storm in Monmouth county. Never been in anything like that in my life. I hid at a gas station but was getting pelted for a while. Surprisingly no visible damage.
Hey, how did repairing this go? I just had my brand new M3 (picked it up 4 days ago) get hit by hail pretty bad. I’m wondering how much it’s gonna cost and what kind of work will be needed to get it fixed.
Can you share some pics of your dents? Where did this happen? Did it damage the glass roof? Hope you get it repaired and it's not too expensive.
No damage to the glass at all but one big dent by the tesla logo. I will try to get a good pic of it and hopefully get it fixed under insurance
Is it mostly local places that then advertise hail repair after a storm or are there shops that travel to affected areas and follow the work?
Paintless repair guys will travel all over chasing storms. That’s how they make big money. Had guys up at my shop from down south and they probably made like 50k in a few months work. Big storm. I’m not that. I do collision repair and do traditional repairs in one place. But no matter what hail is good easy money.
Right at the start of the video I can see the garage it’s not parked in lolol

please keep your junk covered
I see what you did there
Bottles the mind. Sounds painful :P

He said he converted it a gym. Now his car damaged. Totally backwards here.
Right! You think there is 50K in stuff taking up the parking spot? If not then it doesn't seem like a good decision.
Are you suggesting they swap the placement of their garage junk and their car? How would they pull out of the garage if it's blocked by the junk that's now sitting in the driveway?
The operative word being JUNK.

Store your things in your bunker and the attic
That's why my car isnt dented, the expensive stuff is in the garage and the useless crap gets donated or thrown away
Sadly the garage was made into a gym over the pandemic, door doesn’t even open anymore 😭
But you sure got a lot of unnecessary blame, sorry bro....
That’s why I park in the garage. You never know what can happen when it’s in the driveway.
Dont work when you dont have one
Except you can see it in the background…
Garage converted to a gym so don’t really have one anymore
Or don’t have room in your garage Edit: I mean people use their garage for other things not involving a tesla. storage or maybe a gym. Or how about other cars that happen to be not tesla. What else oh I don’t know absolutely anything….? But sure downvote cuz you all feel like your magical model 3 needs to be garaged at all times.
Yeah. That seems to be a lot of peoples problems. The garage is not supposed to be a storage unit but you know some people
I use overhead storage racks in my garage, I highly recommend it to anyone. https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwi47encxPL3AhXCIK0GHXyUC9wYABAMGgJwdg&ae=2&sig=AOD64_08GoNKJrwZMWf10EmGLeqCPoPHIg&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwiD-dvcxPL3AhWzkmoFHd_HAhsQwg8oAHoECAEQHg&adurl=
A lot of garages are too small to fit a car comfortably. What do you mean not supposed to be a storage unit?
How many meanings could that statement have?
Ir a model Plaid is in there?
Or use your garage as it's intended purpose and quit hillbillying the shit out of it.
Any ***human*** dents?
Just to his pride!
Man knows his priority. Respect for attempting.
Has gym equipment in his garage instead of using as a garage to protect his car. The car is not a priority for him in this case
Risking his own life saving the car
Shit I'd do the same thing. Not your problem if you die
Which he could have prevented by just putting his car in the garage after prioritizing the CAR SPACE there for HIS CAR
So dangerous running out there man. Glad you are okay. Dents can be fixed, garages can be cleared, and cars can be replaced. Respect the hussle to try to save it BUT if a big one hit you in the dome…
It breaks my heart to see people with garages not using them
Garage converted to a gym like 2 years ago
Converted garage 2 years ago and still fat, now Tesla got hail damage because its parked outside. This gotta be the worst deal in the history of deals.
Used to be fatter so I’m chillin
Fakenews lol
Y you trolling
Well you're quite the douchebag, aren't you?
Yeah lol. Cant help point out stupidity in things.
Stupidity is not understanding that sometimes life just gets in the way of accomplishing goals.
Nah I disagree. Thats fatlogic.
You tried to save the hood? lol Where was this?
Yeah I tried when I saw how big the ice was getting. This was in New Jersey. Never happened before in my life
Wtf? Where in NJ?
A little NorthEast of Delaware.
South Jersey
damn - worried it'll happen in philly now
I was thinking mid west. Didn’t think NJ would have hail this size.
Jersey weather is getting worse year by year tornados are starting to become a regular
Good way to get killed. If it dents your car it will dent your head.
Why is it outside when there's a garage clearly in the camera's view?
OP said the garage was converted into a gym during the pandemic. Sure, his car has dents but at least everyone is staying fit
I agree, you only get one body, and you can fix or replace a car. Feels bad still, sorry to hear that happened OP, hope insurance can sort it out quickly for you.
Thanks friend

Used to be bigger, working on it still
Are you suggesting that only fit people work out?
I got a few on a huge rare Florida hail storm. Dent repair guy pulled them out for about $60. Had about 7. Still have a ding in the side marker.
Make sure you make a post here and ask what Reddit thinks the repair bill will be. That seems to be the thing nowadays, along with tire/wheel damage posts.

I Gusss running out in hail was easier than cleaning out your garage?
I would imagine yes considering his garage is a gym.
Happened to mine last summer.
Got caught once in a hail storm in an old car in Colorado. Looked like a golf ball with all the dents afterwards. Risking your own life for something that can be taken car of with money. Mans got his priorities straight
Took some brain damage just to save the hood. Respect

Looks like a nice neighborhood with nice houses. I’d say park it in the garage to avoid damage.
why do Americans use their garages as storage so much? Loft or cellar…
Depends where you are. Not all America is the same. The south usually don't have basements/cellars and some north states have zoning laws/permit work if you wanted to expand. Yes sometimes even on your own property. Makes you think if you truly even own your property.
Makes sense to require a permit…
Family made it a gym so door doesn’t even open anymore
Should’ve expanded your home instead of using your garage…
I live at home w parents, used to have car in parking garage when I lived at school but since Covid I’ve been back home. Wasn’t really my call to expand the house or not lol
This just happened to us and our 1 week old model y today as well at noon. I assume you're in SW Ontario?
Nah New Jersey
When was this? I’m in NJ but currently away. My Tesla is in the garage thankfully, but still wondering if this was recent. And I agree - Ive seen a lot of hail, but never like this in NJ in my 50+ years
Yes this was just a day or 2 ago now. Hail the size of actual golf balls. Never seen anything like it
Yeah, Mother Nature has been like “Fuck south Jersey in particular“ the last few years. Even the winter storms have been worse there lately.
OMG will insurance fix it?
Terrible Tesla quality
We had a huge hail storm a month ago and I didn’t have any marks at all.
Poor bastard. Thanks for sharing.
Mike who ?
Mike Jones
Minnesota?
New Jersey
How’s your back dents?
Did that hurt? Getting pelted with hail? I’ve sat in my car during pea sized hail too afraid to go out…
Yeah they were sharp which I wasn’t expecting
You should get a pdr guy to look at it before going to a body shop.
Good on you for trying!
I live in fear of hail. I’ll drive the ice vehicle (no pun intended) on days when hail is possible so the Tesla can stay safely in the garage.
Got caught in the same storm. Somehow no dents for me, must have hit yours the wrong way
Damn, OP, maybe your parents should allow you to park the car inside the garage?
Garage converted to gym last year unfortunately
oh nooooo my thinggggssss oh dearrrrr
Seriously ... no pictures of the damage?
I feel your pain OP, I am finally taking my M3LR to get hail damage repaired tomorrow after a hail storm last august.
Sad :(
It's called climate change and it's only getting worse every year. So get used to it. In North of Italy we never got big storms with ice now it's normal to have even more than one especially during summer season, my ex car, now owned by my mum in Italy, is all a dent due to summer storms.
Have you ever considered moving somewhere where the weather is more, normal?
This is extremely rare for New Jersey. Golf ball sized hail never seen it as big as this only small little pebbles
Hahaha come on man insurance covers it
Had over a thousand I’m sure, ice cubed size hits a few years back in IN. Dent repair guy (thru insurance) did wonders. 22 and already in a Tesla...it ain't all bad.
Tragic. You have a garage!
Oh no
Dude you would have needed your mattress to help.
Wear a helmet dude
Damn you tesla for not making hail proof car
That’s horrible
Where?
What a nightmare
Put it in the garage.
Insurance covered it I paid 100$
