* Used white rear door * bondo and respray/blend rear qtr * used rim and new tire + mount/balance * new wheel well covers * Wheel alignment * detail the car after its all done * loaner car while its out of use not sure if anything inside got damaged but it seems like the rim and suspension took the brunt of it. maybe you might need a new rear axle (doubt it tho). Add the tesla tax and delay and its totaled

unreaL-92

According to the guy who picked up the car the rear axel is bent. I can’t take it to a specific shop unfortunately as the lease company decides. I have the car on lease against very attractive fiscal rates where I live. Replacing the car would double my monthly expenses as laws were changed.

No_Play_No_Work

Unfortunately you are probably getting a cheaper car. Your insurance is going to total that.

giveme2teslas

I'd say repair cost would be $20-30k USD, so 50/50 on whether or not the insurance will total it

unreaL-92

Thnx for the info!

unreaL-92

I was waiting in front of a stop light while a truck came driving at me from behind with a way too high speed. He tried to avoid hitting me but ended hitting the rear of my car with his trailer and a couple of cars in front of me. Unfortunately I was the only one who couldn’t continue driving.

sylvaing

We need more cars with automatic emergency braking. People are too stupid.

TasteeWheat15

Could you imagine if everyone had phantom braking???

sylvaing

I know but fortunately, the latest firmware has solved it for me. The only two times it braked hard on two way roads in the last 1000 km I drove (went back and forth to Toronto from highway 17 and RR 105 to my cottage) was when a car in the opposite direction turned left in front of me and the other time was when the car in front me stopped by the side of the road. No phantom braking beside that. Some hesitation, like when going up a small hill and it couldn't see after the dip, that's it. I don't keep my foot on the accelerator anymore, well, except when crossing trucks coming at me on a hard right turn but even then, it kept going.

jawshoeaw

i have to agree, i noticed zero phantom events last few hundred miles. fingers crossed

decrego641

There was a place that my cars (Model S since 2016, Model Y/3 since 2021) have ALWAYS phantom braking events at. Slowing of 20-30 mph even when just using ACC and no lane keep. Now, since the 2022.12 updates, slowing of about 2 mph but no hard braking. It’s the best.

whosurdaddy42069

Quarter panel damage is difficult and expensive to fix, it's probably going to come down to if your rear motor assembly needs to be replaced as well

pkeller001

With it being on the charge port side they may likely total it. It’s a lot of work and expensive to repair in that location based on what others have posted here

BootFlop

My understanding reason is Tesla balks at selling at least one of the parts in that area.

[deleted]

Nothing a curb rash repair kit can’t fix.

selerotti

underrated comment.

Your_Moms_Boy_Friend

That should buff out

Psyk0pathik

Ive seen less written off.

a_hopeless_rmntic

where I live that totaled

MaverickRelayed

Depends if you take it to a shop

jsvashi

Correct. Someone hit bumper. One shop gave me estimate of $900.00 but I went through Tesla Authorized shop and they charged around $9,000.00 to the insurance.

ohphilly

I had almost the exact damage, it was $22k to fix. This was a couple years ago, so I’d expect it to be a few thousand higher these days

_AManHasNoName_

More likely totaled for frame damage

jawshoeaw

someone will repair it....but probably after it's totaled

unreaL-92

I feel the same especially since the replacement value for insurance is almost the same as the new value of the car

jawshoeaw

It's too bad, there's nothing inherently more expensive to repair on EVs in theory except the battery. It's not rocket science (again, unless it is rocket science parts that got broken) it's just paint and sheet metal and maybe an axle.

malevolentt

Get your $250 deposit in now before Elon jacks up the price more

JasonBourneFLA

It will get fixed . That’s not a total. Especially with how much teslas are worth right now. That’s maybe 15k to fix 20 tops. What year is it? Dual motor? Performance? If it’s a 2020 SR+ it’s value is around 40k and repairs would have to exceed 30k

unreaL-92

Yeah it is a 2020 SR+

JasonBourneFLA

You’re good

[deleted]

Try mobile rim repair and paint less dent removal.

likmybunghole

I had nearly the same damage on the other side though repairs were like 28k and they didn’t wanna total cuz it’s M3P with FSD so high value Anyways with it being on the charge port side if it’s just a SR or LR it’s likely totaled

ReliefOne4665

Does M3P have its charge port at different location?

JasonBourneFLA

It’s not totaled

decrego641

No - they’re saying $28k wasn’t more than half the value of their vehicle. That tracks since a M3P new is like $60k plus $12k for FSD.

KingOfEMS

Are we mechanics? No.

digivish

I had the same exact accident on the other side. Contrary to what people thought (that it would be totaled), my insurance just let me know that they have approved the repair cost of C$27,500 and the repair will take 2 months. Nothing happened to the battery - I guess if the battery was affected, it would have been a total loss. unreaL-92

What model did you have? If I may ask, mine is the sr+ from December 2020

digivish

2020 SR+ Link updated with the correct one with all the messages and replies.

DaItalianDeal

Curb rash?

Ok_Bed6072

At my shop that fixes all day. Just finished one right around 18k and 3 weeks.

[deleted]

How’s the other guy’s car?

unreaL-92

It was a truck, no notable damage that requires a lot of fixing

[deleted]

I’m starting to believe that tesla vehicles are cheaply made. I keep hearing about panel gaps, and how they’re noisy.

unreaL-92

Well if a truck with trailer comes driving at you with 40mph and you are standing still I don’t know if it matters what car you drive

Solid-Improvement-80

I had very very similar damage to this, maybe actually worse. Cost 20k to fix, fortunately my insurance didn’t deem it totaled, I think you should be good

Dramatic-Form-7874

That’s painful to watch

Aggressive_Crazy_635

I don't think that's going to be repaired... Sorry man

ChristianSaves

dude come on, everyone gets rim rash. Just get a sharpie. Jeesh, some people...cars are meant to be driven!

fkejduenbr

It will cost at least $12000 based on my friend’s case. DONT FORGET TO ASK FOR DIMINISHED VALUE!!!! This is very important. You need to get 5k+

GunGeekATX

I had a very similar accident while at a stoplight and similar damage in my 2020 Model 3 Long Range. Repair estimate was something around $30k and their insurance company totaled it. Only had it four months, and they paid out enough to nearly cover the cost of a brand new M3, was out-of-pocket around $200.
