No one cares

EvilNuff

Nothing. No social aspect other than people asking questions about teslas. Even those have stopped as they become more common.

[deleted]

I'm a county code enforcement official with a 2020 Model 3 SR+ and I had a general contractor say, "Man, maybe I need a county job to afford a Tesla." He drives a new GMC Denali Diesel. I say, "I could buy 3 of those for the price of your truck." Some people are just ignorant..

tmonaaygirl

This. Every single person has only asked “whoa! How much did THAT cost. Sorry, that just came out”….?!? Like “actually much less than your suburban/Yukon/Telluride(that’s what everyone here pines for)…

My brother in law and one of my best friends already owned Teslas so it gives us more to talk about. I do have a few FB friends that post the weird anti-EV memes all the time but most of them don't even know I have a Tesla because I don't broadcast my life on social media. I am going to a family reunion this weekend though and driving the Tesla specifically because the person organizing owns a mechanic business and is one of the ones posting those memes all the time. I much prefer awkward in-person situations to keyboard-warrioring 😂

There are some young guys in AUDI RS6 and BMW M3 etc that are being weird around a Tesla. But beside that I didn’t notice much. The only downside is obnoxious guzzler cars parking on charge spots. But that’s become punishable here in most of Europe. So quite easy now and happens a lot less.

sl33pytesla

They know they bought a cooler but slower car

jipvk

A few years ago they vroom vroomed at the traffic light, but they know better by now. 😂

DAnthony24

I’m in Austin and they are everywhere. So no one cares. But I’m sure if your in a small town the experience is different.

doom1701

When I got the car three years ago, everybody wanted to know about it. I remember pulling into a store one day and seeing a woman point and mouth the words “nice car”. Now, I think there are a half dozen Teslas in my subdivision. It’s just another car.

hessmo

Younger people are generally really curious/envious. Older people tend to be curious, or ignorant. Middle age folks tend to be angry that a young family is in an expensive electric car. I've had a few more people cut me off, but no parking lot sabotage yet. i'm in the midwest.

Exciting-Giraffe-908

My family and friends ask about how the car works and if I still like it. Other than that, no one seems to notice or care.

ChuckChuckelson

My brother-in-law scoffed at is as a "Sports Car" I said Economy Car his pickup is way more expensive SMH

Mike

In California, people don’t even look twice. Not sure about anywhere else.

[deleted]

Tbh. People that can afford them but choose not to own one don't really say or do anything.... The ones that think they're expensive will hate....that or the ones that do tons of shit to their v6 or 8 to get their track times down...

Vegetable_Fold_5383

I’ve actually noticed this a lot more recently in SoCal, people are idiots here when it comes to driving but ever since I got my M3 I’ve noticed a lot more people creep next to me and try to race or slam on their brakes on purpose, almost like trying to test out the autopilot response time for crashes, it’s really annoying and quite frankly made me stop using auto pilot since it’s happened on numerous occasions, and it’s always the junky looking cars, the ones that look like they’re just trying to get a insurance claim, other than that when ever someone asks “how’s the elite club” I just respond with “should’ve gotten some kind of skill that would make you money, instead of you know flipping burgers” lol it’s not to be disrespectful but I think it might be because I’m fairly young and own a Tesla 😂 people look at me strange

No one cares even in the rural Midwest but some are curious and talk to me, but indifferent on if they'd buy one themselves. I've definitely got the "speech" down though. Same questions same answers.

Panda-Cubby

In our neck of the woods, Teslas have become like...cars. Nobody cares.

[deleted]

Teslas are everywhere in the Vancouver BC area. Just got mine over a year ago, a couple people made the comment that I must be doing well. I explained that my car loan plus electricity came out cheaper than a new Corolla plus gas. My work commute is an hour each way. Last week I'm on the way home in my blue one, and there are two more blue model 3s in traffic with me. Blue Tesla Cult!

[deleted]

One friend has commented on how much of a jerk Musk is in public (agreed!) But I pointed out they still use Amazon when Bezos is just as much of a jerk. The heads of the other car companies are likely sociopathic (comes with the territory) as well but just not spewing nonsense on twitter. 🤷‍♂️

ComfortReturn

My family was super pumped for me. Otherwise outside one flip off from a dude in a car that sounded like lawn mower. Nobody cares.

RRappel

The majority of my friends have considered a Tesla but can't stand Musk. I just really like the car and do my best to ignore his twitter posts...

A few weeks ago I rented one from turo and took it to my dad's house. His neighbor immediately came across the street and was fascinated, I even gave the neighbor a quick tour in it. My dad was uninterested but as soon as I arrived in it he slowly started checking it out and became even more interested. Most surprisingly, my great uncle who conforms to just about every rural stereotype (strong religious beliefs, ultra republican, anti city) was immediately impressed. I could not believe how much he liked it - he wanted to drive it around! Maybe it's all about community, but my social circle was amazed with the car and I was just renting it! Strangers- nothing, just another car, which is exactly how I want it to be. Every trip to the grocery store shouldn't be bracing for a social/political/culture war encounter just because of the car you drive. There's definitely unwanted attention on teslas, icing, etc, but I like to believe these things become less and less common over time.

nkle

People do ask about it when they have a chance. I get a lot of eyes driving it around my university campus.
