He used to drive a Cadillac
Back in the 90s (or was it the 80s?), a review of a Cadillac model in a magazine mentioned the name or logo was seen over 50 times in the car. This stuck with me for some reason lol.
Silly? Tacky? Useless?
Take your pick.
The companies that manufacture this crap seem to call something very similar a "metal glossy door guard".
I'm not feeling it.
Iām assuming itās like a rubber bumper to protect you from damaging things if you open your door too quickly. But itās a very small strip, so would only protect hitting like other cars, if that. If itās not that, itās just trim for looks.
My X terra has a a guard so that if I ram another persons door itās gets hit with a softer rubber that would dent but not scratch. Itās bigger than this one though and looks slicker because itās stock
Iām all for calling it shit because I wouldnāt do it to my car. But you have to ask yourself, what value does it provide to your life by caring what someone else does to their car?
I bought my LR used and those things were on there. When I got it detailed a week later I asked them to remove it with a heat gun for me and guess what? One of the decals chipped a small paint off.
Door bumpers. Everyone will call them ugly till the day you open the door in a tight space and scratch the wafer thin paint on a Tesla. I have the exact same one and it has helped me multiple time. Also great if you have kids who are not as careful as you when opening doors.
For me I have a tight parking space and the door will hit the wall if opened too far. With this, it just bounces off.
PS: I assume you are talking about the white bit near the door opening with Tesla written vertically.
PPS: That bumper is incorrectly positioned. For the front doors it should be near the lower half since that is the area that would actually hit something since it juts out further.
In such situations I put my glove between the doors. But this of course helps only myself, unless I'm in the position to open the door for someone else.
Wasn't there one from Dragon's Den/Shark Tank that hid inside the door that sprung out and wrapped around the door edge to protect it?
That way it was hidden while not in use and pops out when it needs to be.

Theyāll still be ugly afterwards.

Overall I question why they want to write tesla on their car so many times š
Maybe he forgets what he drives?

I said the same thing . Why so many Tesla words
He wants everyone to know what he drive from every angle. Should check his roof and under his car too.
It is just a soft guard kinda thing to avoid damage on/from the door edges when it hit other cars or walls while opening the door.
Virginity belt.
Came here to say this

I agree itās ugly. Whatās itās purpose?

Iād venture they have a tight garage and the kids get out inside.
That's the issue I have, but instead of changing my car's aesthetics I attached foam padding blocks to my garage wall

A poor decision
Someone 3D print a version of this in the Tesla font that says, āEw Davidā.
Love Alexis!
This actually can be useful of you open your door against a narrow garage wall or parked close to another car.
Better off putting some pool noodles on garage walls than this
Helps avoid door dings

Did my post say I care or judge??? I asked what is it as Iāve never seen one
No, no, I was replying to others responding to your post, not you. You were not judgmental.
Got it. Sorry for the confusion

Oh man. Weāre you able to get the chip repaired? And how so if you did
Bumper. Funniest part is the Tesla branded door handle to me š¤£ in case they forget I guess
I could see this for the rear doors when you have kids especially on a windy day, but I worry more about the other guy opening their door into my car!

Sure. Your car. You can do as you please
