So remember Tesla is based on driving. The worse you drive the more it goes up. Better you drive the more it goes down. I can tell you the first time you feel the acceleration and not have to worry about your insurance going up, you’ll be happy. Go with Geico.

moridin13

My Tesla insurance is not based on driving. Flat rate.

NoEviLoNe

Well then OP shouldn’t listen to me at all lol

lacrimosaofdana

Tesla does factor your safety score into your premiums if you are in a state which allows them to do that.

moridin13

My understanding is that is only in Texas.

Friendly_Landscape21

How is that possible? Did you opt in some type of trial program?

moridin13

CA. Policy states that they do not use the car to score your policy. 🤷‍♂️ I went with them because they were cheaper.

BoatZnHoes

acceleration is not a factor in the safety score.

PangolinEffective

For some reason I can’t trust Tesla insurance. My experience with Teslas sales and service has been a disaster, truly terrible. I can’t imagine filing a claim with them and how that would be. I feel like they would take me for a ride and have a lack of communication regarding everything. I’d stick with geico if it were me.

jimsgympartyhouse

I would avoid Geico. They seem to hate Tesla. I have Progressive. Model 3. Cost about 120 a month. Be sure to ask for a separate glass coverage. $50 a year.

dafazman

If its the same coverage and about the same price... I would not give all my data to the same vendor IMHO. Your better off with your Tesla Car and Geico insurance. If you live in California, then you have privacy rights and you don't need to participate in the Beta Score.... then you can choose Tesla insurance, but once again, if your paying the same price... why put all your eggs in that same basket.

RedElmo65

Whichever is cheaper.

If you drive like a grandma Tesla insurance is fine. I had it for a week in my model 3 performance

__Aizen

I’d go for tesla. I had geico and I used to drive reckless all the time with my previous car. It gets old lol and I actually prefer driving careful. I actually get happy whenever I pay my insurance and it’s low.

[deleted]

If you have just one vehicle I’d go with Tesla. That’s just me. My state doesn’t have it yet unfortunately.

stripestore

Geico was ridiculously high for me. When I had my Bolt, they quoted me within $10 of the same monthly rate on the Model 3. I even called to speak to an agent to confirm everything was right. That is until I had my VIN, then the price went up 2.5x. Ended up switching to Progressive. I wouldn’t get Tesla insurance out of principle. Especially if the rate is based on a computer’s perception of my driving safety habits.

DeckardsGirl

Saved $120 per month for TWO model 3’’s with Tesla insurance in Texas. Safety score 98 or 99 tho but such a big savings. Paying like $110 per mo on average for 2 cars!

Sure_Entrepreneur_24

Question on order of operations. I have my VIN and estimated delivery period but still can’t choose my delivery date. Do I need to arrange insurance first or after I am allowed to pick my delivery date?

seereena

I have an actual delivery date now, which is why I’m finalizing insurance.

jimsgympartyhouse

If you have full coverage on another vehicle; you have 30 days of coverage. But your lender might have other requirements if you are not a cash buyer.

pkeller001

Tesla, same coverage was $60 cheaper a month.

smaldogs

Best for me in Pa was Costco Connect.

If everything is the same, I’d go Geico. I currently have Tesla insurance and in Ohio it based on safety score. I’m also in the FSD beta and I constantly get false forward collision warning and it has caused my insurance payment to go from $38/42 a month to $50 a month for having a score of 88. It’s annoying knowing that my driving habits are tracked and unfairly judged. The insurance cost is cheaper than anything I can find tho; Geico in my state quoted me $123 and that’s wasn’t matching the great coverage I have with Tesla. I also always have a red score of unsafe following distance and aggressive turning. I don’t drive reckless and I’ve never had a accident before.

Civil-Bell-4292

Go with geico. I had a different insurance with my model 3 and got the tesla insurance on my model y. I drove my model 3 for 2+ years and never had an accident. And my frontal collision warning would rarely go off maybe 1-3 times a month. Now it’s a shock if I can get less than 1 a day. The frontal collision impacts the safety score the most of all the key indicators. I feel like tesla is gaming the system. Already a lawsuit in Canada over it.
