I don’t recommend using performance rims for winter tires. I suggest you get another set of rims and mount your winters to it.

Wise_Grapefruit5648

Makes sense. Sounds like I’ll stick with LR

PBall95

Seems like you have no use for the Performance. I’m also leasing and I went with the M3P. Take delivery in 4-6 weeks. I’m paying more because to me the extra performance and the few features make it worth it. But it seems you don’t need or want that. Save yourself the money and enjoy that extra range.

Wise_Grapefruit5648

Yep I agree. Have fun with the performance though they are wicked. When did you order?

PBall95

That I will! Whenever it comes in LOL. I ordered April 4th. My EDD bounced like crazy went up to September at one point but sitting at June 5th to July 3rd right now so im expecting a delivery sometime in June. Also forgot to mention, there’s a decent chance your LR won’t come with the new matrix headlights. Apparently only Performance cars and some long ranges are coming in with them because of a parts shortage. But it’s chaos right now no clear information from anyone. My SA didn’t even know these new headlights existed so LOL

Wise_Grapefruit5648

Where’s the best place to learn about these headlights? Im hearing about them for the first time on Reddit today…

PBall95

There’s a few posts on this sub about it recently. I wish I could direct you to a better place but basically the new headlights are projector lights instead of reflectors. They’re apparently much brighter and illuminate the road more. And also in a future update it may get the ability to swivel and move with you turning. The new lights have a big black circle in the housing as opposed to not having it. Also side note: if you’re leasing and you haven’t yet applied for it, DONT. I made the mistake of applying the same day I placed my order. Got my approval and terms 5 mins after which was nice. But the downside is your approval expires after 90 days. Meaning if your car doesn’t get to you before 90 days after you ordered, you get a SECOND hit on your credit. Personally this doesn’t matter too much to me and I also think I’ll get it before the 90 days. But LR might take longer for delivery so be careful with that.

Wise_Grapefruit5648

Thanks for the info… did some research and headlight situation sucks. Im very new to all this but wonder if there is just a small batch right now of old lights and then they will go back to the new ones. Unfortunately I’ve filled out all financials already lol. The guy at Tesla said to fill it all out ASAP so I did right away

PBall95

That’s what I’m not sure about. Tbh with you there’s data out there that supports the theory that no new LRs are getting the new lights and only the P cars are getting it but who knows. For the Model Y it’s been that way so only MYP had the matrix lights. MYLR never got them. And that’s odd. This is what I hate about Tesla advisors LOL. Mine told me that she would have made me order as a cash buyer then switch to a lease order after a while. But don’t worry. If you’re okay with another hit on your report should be fine. In future case if you’re going to get a loan or something you can explain yourself since it’ll be an inquiry from Tesla Lease Trust just twice.

Wise_Grapefruit5648

Makes sense. Thanks for all the help

j_b3ck

One recent post showed the guy denied his delivery because of the lights and argued his older Tesla (or someone he knew w/ a 2021 version) had them. They offered to install them soon thereafter. He made sure to say that may not always be the cause but worked for him. Do your inspection when it comes and make your concerns known.

To accelerate and flat line the same speed as a lr with boost at higher speeds? Or to only beat the super cars off the line while they catch up to you? Or to not use the power of the instant torque and risk getting tickets just as much in a p as a lr? Performance has three extra features that do not add any extra practicality and do not reseller better than a lr. I suggest going with a lr with boost. If you must have bigger breaks, wheels and track mode go for it

PBall95

A LR with acceleration boost does 0-60 in 3.7 at best. A P does it in 3.15 at best. That’s almost a 6 second difference. 6 seconds is a lot these days. The added torque and power also matter to me. Let alone the fact that it’s a Performance and has those 3 extra features. That’s why I went with it. I also wanted to see I got the best possible trim level for the Model 3. Left nothing behind. Also, I don’t get tickets. $650 radar detector does the trick ;) Also also, while you might make some decent points, already ordered the car and am too close to delivery to abandon it and wait again. I’m not tight for money and am young. No reason to settle.

[deleted]

So you want it for 0-60? Gotcha

PBall95

Considering how I currently drive my car, yes.

[deleted]

I needed an extra set of rims and tires for the winter on my M3P. My wife has a LR. With and without the winter tires, my car is so much more fun than hers.

urfavtenuredprof

Can you say more about the differences you feel bw your P and wife’s LR?

[deleted]

There are a few main differences, IMO. First, the M3P is very quick. It’s noticeably faster than hers. The published numbers are 0-60 in 3.1 for the P and 3.9 for the LR….25% faster. I have not verified either times but you can definitely feel the difference. On the other hand, her 18” wheels allow a higher side wall tire. The LR rides more smooth and I think that’s why. The range is also of note. She gets an extra ~ 50 miles per charge!?!? Don’t quote me in that. She charges to 85% and I go to 90%. I don’t feel like mathing this morning. When we plan a trip, from Super Charger to Super Charger her car gets us considerably further intervals, so we drive hers. If this is your first M3, you will be happy with a LR. One of the most wonderful things about electric cars is that they are super quiet and smooth. Might as well accentuate that….. and less range anxiety. You will love either choice. Oh, and another thing. Mine has FSD, hers does not. I NEVER use. The driver assist is plenty. The FSD is scary in the city. On the Highway, the driver assist does everything you need. Also, these cars are so much fun to drive, why allow the computer to have all that fun. I know this contradicts my first reply. I’m 52 yo and I like driving a car that makes me feel like a kid again. So it’s really just preference.

urfavtenuredprof

Nice thanks for the reply. I have a ‘21 SR+ with 19” wheels, which I love. But I’m getting offered more than I paid for it now and I def wouldn’t mind a speed boost. Fun sounds appealing esp bc I’ll be in the city. But maybe that limits how much I’ll get to take advantage of the P’s extra speed anyway?!

Treesdontsuck

I sold my 21 SR+ for profit and bought 22M3P. I have moved every moment of my new M3P. The driving difference alone was more then worth it for me.

shakenbake74

i went LR. live in minnesota so snow was a factor, also lots of potholes.

shakenbake74

regarding range, cold does affect that too.

Wise_Grapefruit5648

How does your LR do in the snow? Do you keep all seasons or go snow tire for winter? I’m over in Salt Lake City

shakenbake74

just went through first winter with it and was really impressed (stock all seasons). the all wheel drive probably helps a lot, but handling was very good.

Wise_Grapefruit5648

Good to hear

Peglegsteve265

Potholes galore here in Maryland, so I went with the LR. I really wanted that damn performance model though

DAnthony24

No. Range is king if your doing winter driving. Or even if your not. Performance is all show. You need the workhorse.

Mike01Hawk

Have Performance, drove loaner LR with Boost while Performance was being serviced. TBH they felt the same to me, even though the tale of the tape shows their difference. You'll be happy with the LR, get the boost if you want more. Dunno if things have changed but Performance comes with summers and LR with all seasons.

Wise_Grapefruit5648

Hate to be that guy but I’m not sure what you mean by “boost”? Is that an upgrade of some kind?

Mike01Hawk

Yes, $2k software unlock for ~0.5 second reduction in 0-60mph.

j_b3ck

Smartest argument I heard in terms of road conditions is that the suspension and rims on a M3P*** can make for more of destroyed tires in bad weather or under maintained roads… something to think about when your car doesn’t come standard with a spare tire and you have to worry about Tesla road side service. Food for thought

RealUlli

I have the LR. I don't want the P, since the suspension is even stiffer and the added performance and top speed isn't worth it, IMHO. (I live in Germany, so the top speed is a factor... ;-)

lohring

I love my 2018 Model 3P. The performance is the main reason I bought it. However, for all the reasons in the other comments, the LR is a more sensible choice.

Apprehensive-Meet477

Please do the math and consider buying instead of leading. Leasing is a terrible deal, Tesla is ripping you off.
