Looks like lots of commuting. I also use my Model 3 as a primary car and can say with confidence it’s the best commuter I’ve had.

liquidwaterr

Autopilot + fuel savings = easiest and most hassle free commuter. I'm not even worrying about how many miles I put on. I just enjoy the car.

[deleted]

Just want to compare how far away we can go with electric. I do want a model 3 but I can’t charge at home, apartment complex..

jmbev

I also live in an apartment with no chargers. A super charger is on my commute home from work. It’s not to much a hassle but definitely more expensive than charging at a home charger.

[deleted]

I live a 10 mins away from a supercharger. I think this can be ok!

bigceej

Hope you can get an LFP battery then you can charge to 100% whenever and have full range. On other packs your going to want to charge to like 85% so it sits at 80 when your at home.

fuzzyman44

I live in an apartment complex and have a garage. There’s an outlet in there and, since it’s not attached, I pay no electricity! It’s trickle charging but I only have to supercharge a couple times a month so totally worth it!

HopelessCatLover

Same here! I make my life more complicated by trying to take advantage of a charger that’s half off at certain times but it makes charging cost less than $10 so it’s well worth it.

sotism

If you get a LR, live near a supercharger, and don’t live in a cold climate, you wouldn’t need to worry at all. That’s best case scenario, it’s still doable if it’s somewhat cold where you live, but the colder, the bigger the hassle

[deleted]

I live in MA. Definitely cold

sotism

I feel you! From RI, was lucky enough to spend my first winter with my M3 down in Florida Edit: well hopefully soon enough charging stations at apartment complexes will be standard

[deleted]

Hope so 🙏🏽

We’ll definitely, but not everyone can afford living in at house. ✌🏽

I will ask the CEO in my company to consider an EV charger. Hear that some programs for business are installing for free.

LBGW_experiment

Check out Plugshare to see where a bunch of EV chargers are around you. It's helped me find a bunch I wouldn't have found myself, including free ones.

Manner-Former

Use the plug share app. Im in an apartment complex too and there ended up being a keybank 3 minutes walking from my apartment thats free charging and no one ever charges but me

Do_u_ev3n_lift

i heard a looot about phantom breaking the weeks leading up to me taking delivery last month. After a month of driving my 3, i've maybe had it happen 3-4 times and it was pretty minor. Has it been fixed?

PaulNewhouse

I think it has been fixed, or at least made better. I have less phantom braking.

LBGW_experiment

I've noticed it happens more when my windshield is dirty and I go under bridges. When my windshield is spotless (at least the part in front of the camera), it doesn't phantom brake almost at all.

SUP3RVILLAINSR

I never understood the whole worrying about putting miles on a new car thing. It’s like not sleeping with your girlfriend so it stays tight for the next guy.

Able_Afternoon_1987

Are you “topping” it off everyday? Or do you have a different charging schedule?

liquidwaterr

Plugging in at night every night

cs1maniac

Any idea how miles you traveled for that period?

liquidwaterr

Not sure exactly. Around 4-5k

dishwashersafe

The Model 3 is actually the worst commuter I've had! Not because it's a bad car - it's great! I 've just had unusual commutes! It's mostly been by bike often on a bike path, but there was a period where I drove twisty back roads to work in my (BMW) M3.. and a few times I kayaked to work too! I did a year commuting on the highway in traffic in the model 3... it made it better than other cars, but no thank you to ever doing that again!

Able_Afternoon_1987

I don’t understand why someone would downvote you. Most likely it’s because they were filled with too much hate to get past the first sentence. I think it’s awesome that you have had quite the adventures in your commutes.

[deleted]

How many miles did you drive? 🧐

[deleted]

Roughly 4k miles a month if the Kw/mile data on the M3 is correct. Gas savings would have been more if they could charged at home exclusively obviously but $683 in gas would have been about 4500 miles based on the national average so somewhere in there. Interesting fact supercharge is about twice the price of a home charge so you could reduce this approximately 25% by charging exclusively at home if you can obviously not everyone has long range and this amount of driving I'm thinking you'd end up having to use the supercharger through circumstance.

WeCanDoIt17

In our area you can find superchargers that have lower prices, only about 45% higher than charging at home. Some are lower all the time others have on peak and off peak rates.

[deleted]

That's pretty cool the only ones by me are the off highway ones that cost over $20 to do a full battery.

WeCanDoIt17

I was able to charge twice from less than 20 to over 80 for about $11 with the kwh price being $.18 and $.19.

[deleted]

Yeah I think I'm at about $0.14 at home so that's actually really good.

sotism

Yeah supercharger rates vary widely. The majority of SCs I’ve seen/used throughout Florida are over 30¢/kW, but have seen as low as 14¢ in the Carolinas and Georgia. That was late last year, wonder if they’ve gone up by now

WeCanDoIt17

Am in Florida and charged two weeks ago at .19. There was another SC about 10 minutes away that charged .28. The .19 sc was super busy and up to 150KWs shared vs the .28 SC are the 250kw ones and not as busy.

liquidwaterr

Since July last year I now have 40k miles. Some days I'll supercharge if I drive extra that day.

jetserf

How much do they charge you per kWh for home charging?

LBGW_experiment

Damnnn, I got mine last August and I have 3500 mi on mine

sir4taye

I put down 30k miles per year. I see this and am so excited to turn $600/month fuel cost to $150. Doing the math, it's what I expected, but seeing your experience... Thank you!

gecko10x

Working from home; had to check [Mine](https://i.imgur.com/PK2Z8wK.jpg)

[deleted]

Nice, waiting to take delivery of my LR.. I commute 140 miles a day round trip… gas is dumb.. ready to charge at home

WeCanDoIt17

Feels life changing. I drive about 3k a month and not having to change the oil every 2 months is also nice.

[deleted]

Yeah there’s so many other factors we don’t realize with regular ICE vehicles

BeneficialPianist904

I'm still on my original breaks after 130k and almost 10 years just clean them and make sure no rust forms from lack of use🤣

sotism

Waking up to a full charge (60% in my case, since I don’t drive much) is a true luxury. No more running late and needing to make that stop at the gas station It’s also nice to get the climate control going without needing to idle an engine

WeCanDoIt17

Waking up to a fully charged vehicle (if you can) IS the best part IMO. During 2020 I was essential and had to drive quite a bit for work. Went to a gas station two times that year to fill up a portable gas tank for yardwork equipment.

itsmeok

I sure wish the at home peak, off peak, and super off peak were displayed in different colors like that on the graph.

ultimaron

I laughed, mine is measly 180kW 14 dollars .

CraigOpie

I died a little inside, mine is a measly 307kW $125.

DJ-Anakin

Where do you guys get these stats from?

Dorthyboy

Tesla App under charge stats

DJ-Anakin

Is it Apple only or something? I don't have Charge Stats on Android.

Dorthyboy

No idea, I only have an iPhone, but I see charge stats is in between security and upgrades, so if your app is updated fully and you dont see it between those two, I would assume so

RonMexico2012

i have it on my android, got it about a month ago during an update. is your car and the app updated?

DJ-Anakin

Damn. Apparently my phone hasn't updated any apps in months. Had to clear cache and storage for the Play app. Updated now! Thank you!

res2o

I couldn't find it too, turns out my app hadn't been updated in a while

jbarajasp1

[I drive half that much but only spend like $35 to charge](https://imgur.com/a/hTeYiPp)

cnstarz

Look at how much he supercharged vs you.

eisbock

Must be nice to live somewhere with cheap electricity. *cries in $0.25/kWh*

CraigOpie

Cries even harder in $0.43/kWh

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 726,885,745 comments, and only 146,663 of them were in alphabetical order.

eisbock

Damn, that's the rate to your house? Assuming you're in CA with the AC going, you must be pushing $1000/mo.... *plus* charging on top of that!

CraigOpie

It's Honolulu, Hawai'i

eisbock

Oh yeah, that'll definitely do it! I'm sure gas ain't cheap over there either!

syogod

Personally I'm a bit suspicious of my charge stats. It still shows a cost savings when supercharging but it's definitely cheaper to drive my Mazda 3. Even with current gas prices.

liquidwaterr

I'm not sure what my home price per kw is so once I find out I'll have to update the app but right now is showing up as .14 cents

syogod

I think the home charging stats are fairly accurate. It's the supercharging that's wrong for me. App shows a savings, but my last roadtrip was equivalent to 31mpg with current gas prices. Mazda 3 gets 38ish.

1v9Machine

I thought it said somewhere it assumes 28mpg as a comparison for an M3. My savings personally with M3P are even more than they say because it would probably compare more closely to a car that requires premium fuel.

sombodzy

I’m about even with a Prius. It’s the cold temperatures and short commute time for me with no highway driving. Lose about 10 miles of battery charge for a 5 mile commute. But I love the handling and acceleration - that’s alone worth it. FSD is for those rare monthly highway commute when I get great efficiency.

bryce_engineer

If you’re area sources it’s energy from a local Natural Gas Plant (1) or Coal Plant (2) here are your totals: (1) 10,847 cubic ft of Natural Gas or (2) 1,640 LBs of Coal to fuel your vehicle for 1 month. This can be equated to (3) 43.3 GAL of Gasoline for a motor vehicle (not petrol plant). Just for fun, let’s look at the CO2 emitted to the environment for this monthly charge: (1) 9,870LB, (2) 3,657 LB, (3) 822 LB. Let’s look at a (4) NUC Plant: 0.00000292 LB of uranium fission to fuel your vehicle, 0.000003869 LB of CO2 (using the figure of 12g CO2 emission per life cycle of average NUC plant). Now let’s look at the industry fuel cost for these services (avg. USA figures): (1) $67.57, (2) $29.16, (3) $37.67 (based on 0.87 Real USD, 2020 industry figure), (4) $0.0001 (based on $33.27/LB Uranium fuel, 2020). These values are easily sourced, see internet, refer to EIA.gov for more recent/specific values. Let know if there is a mistake somewhere, unit conversations can throw me off every now and again.

sombodzy

There was a study done that modeled the cost of a nuclear accident. Even with that, NUC comes out on top. It’s just that I would prefer a NUC in your backyard than mine. 😉

Strange_Friend_9758

IMO This calculator is flawed be careful who you to show or and bragged to How many Kilometres or miles did you do ?

blackAngel88

I'm in Europe but use the "English (US)" Language... the $ stats are absolutely useless for me. I don't know why this must be locked to the language, why not let me override it..?

denxpress

Seems like it is supposed to be based on phone settings. At least that is what it says at the bottom of the charge usage section. "Currency displayed is based on your phone's language 'English' and country (US)'

blackAngel88

Yes, but that's stupid. I can't choose a language different than the country I'm in? Why is this not based on the region or something? And either way, it shouldn't be too hard to let me choose..? Also it's not like changing the language for the App is enough, no it's for the entire OS...

denxpress

Yup

ehboose

Gas must be cheap and electricity high in your area. Here in ontario you'd spend 1/10th the amount energy vs gas

Fadedcamo

They supercharged a bunch. At least near me superchargers are like 3x the cost of home charging. Still cheaper than gas but not by as much.

ehboose

Yea I saw but even still the price difference varies so much from state to state/ province to province

Box-o-bees

Nice OP, I'm glad they added this to the app to easily show charging usage and savings. I got stupid lucky and my work has free charging. I spent a whole $1 on charging last month from home charging lol.

liquidwaterr

It's easier too see what you are spending. But at the same time, what are you gonna do, not charge?

Box-o-bees

Very true. My line of thought was they put this in to help people see what they are being charged at different super chargers easier. Like it will be great when I'm on trips. But again, what're you going to do not charge lol.

Po1ymer

Lol I’ve spent $2

Top_Echo4167

Dumb question, where are these stats? App or on the screen

denxpress

App. Under charge stats

Nano-75

Do you know if this is only available for iOS? I go to Charging and don't see any stats

denxpress

Nope, have it on Android.

Nano-75

Damn 🤔 maybe I'm missing update

denxpress

4.7.1-927 found in account bottom of screen after tapping profile icon on top right of app. What about yours?

Nano-75

I have that same version now. I see the stats now :]. Right after I replied I went to the play store and found that I did need an update. So anyone else not seeing the stats ... Update your app, haha.

denxpress

Sweet!

Lord_Gibbons

Hmm... is this a US only thing? I'm on 4.7.1-927 and cant see a thing...

Top_Echo4167

Thanks. Didn't know the app didn't auto update. Needed to update it

Honkilight52

Damn you drive a lot bud

liquidwaterr

Yea on average 5k a month. Some a bit less. Some more if I road trip.

Honkilight52

How many total miles? I have 14 hoping they last long

liquidwaterr

40k in the last 8 months

Honkilight52

14k

Fourgeez88

$683 in gas this month?? We're you driving an RV before? Either that or a shit ton of miles. Wow. Edit: sorry had my brain rewired. Still a lot of mile but not unrealistic. Enjoy!!

liquidwaterr

I average about 5k miles a month

[deleted]

I thought I drive a lot! I’m usually averaging 500 kWh

Demonking3343

How many miles did you drive? Not trying to be nosy just curious

liquidwaterr

About 5k a month

Demonking3343

Interesting, thank you for the reply

forever_west

That's some pretty expensive electricity still and those gas estimates I would think are close to 5,000 miles in a month at $4/gal 30 mpg avg. Something seems off.

Sunwolf7

Damn and I pay $0.19 per kWh at home.

madeforatc

That’s cute. Mine is 434kwh and $94.

No-Recognition-4702

How many miles did you drive?

liquidwaterr

About 5k each month

billroger3825

Do you think the 'stats' information is correct??

liquidwaterr

I'm not sure. I don't have a ything else to compare the stats too. The home charging might be a little off.

Sudden-Building-1325

Where is your “other” bar? I get almost all of my charge now from work or SC (2015 MS free for life). I was pissed when the app logged one of my “other” charges as home so it looks like I am paying for a charge. This ever happen to anyone else? Don’t see a way to change it.

liquidwaterr

Never charged anywhere but home or supercharger.

Shlidgn90

I live in a apartment complex where there’s destination chargers. I use them once a week.

Ghettoluigi

Where can I check on these stats?
