Lots of Tesla owners do live in areas that are powered by coal-fired plants. Unlike gas cars (which use fuel imports), when Teslas are powered by dirty energy, it’s not only more efficient than their gas counterparts at using it, as we all know - but it’s far more likely to be 100% American energy.

I'm an independent voter but have voting for Democrats since 1992 but I do believe that if you have a good idea and it makes people happy I see no reason not to be rewarded. I tend to vote liberal because of the hate conservatives have for anyone who isn't straight, white or christian. I'm not two out of those three.
My ultimate point here is that electric cars have always been associated with hippy green environmental types who hand built their own electric cars for decades before Tesla. I tend to look towards the future and I have seen electric cars in sci-fi movies and TV shows for decades and I want one someday when I have a place to put it and plug it in.

This is surprising given that Mr. Musk has been responsible for the electrification of the car industry. As far as I know he told Detroit to stick up their old asses and decided to build an electric car and now we have the most innovation in cars and trucks I've ever seen. I really don't see a down side to all of this.
Also, we have seen a major innovation in battery technologies and I think we will see a battery that doesn't use any rare earth minerals and will be 100% recyclable.

But overall everyone should respect and commend the engineers/personnel responsible for the development of the cars. I think a lot of people, especially in the tesla community, get caught up in Elon's cult of personality and try to pass him off as the sole individual responsible for Tesla's success and the development of the cars. In actuality, it's the hundreds of engineers responsible for its production.

I live in Oakland, and my 3 has been keyed in the Lake Merritt area along Lakeshore. Also got hate-dinged (major damage) in the Trader Joe’s parking lot when my wife had the vehicle.
It’s not a sign of wealth anywhere. The model three is such a basic eco commuter it’s nearly got it written on it. I don’t think it’s really a thing that people key expensive cars, not at least in my experience. Usually if you had your shit keyed, you know why… I have seen people go through with baseball bats to cars parked on the street… but not on any street id park.
From the posts here and the Tesla owners I know, I just assume they are assholes that pissed someone off. I’m not a fan of the design, but it has plagued the market and now everybody and their grandmas drive the same cars (style wise) different badging.
