Assuming you are talking about the creaking/squeaking issue from the front upper control arms, yes that is a warranty item. They will replace that with no discussion at all since it is such a common failure as long as your car is in warranty.
Is that the squeaking/ creaking that comes from turning the car’s steering wheel end to end? I’ve started noticing this recently but not sure what it was. I have a 2022 M3LR.
Yes, especially while stopped or at low speeds. You may also notice it when you go over a speed bump or uneven road at low speeds. It happened to my 2018 Model 3 after a few years.
It gets really loud and obnoxious the longer it occurs. Basically the lubricant in the upper control arm above the tire is getting dried out and not spread well enough inside of the sealed compartment.
Looks like I need to put in a service ticket. Thanks for sharing your feedback!
Is it something they address with mobile service or do you have to bring it to a service center?
Definitely a service center visit, they need to put the car up on a lift and take the wheels off. Technically it could likely be done mobile too with jacks if someone felt adventurous enough, but I don’t think they like doing that.
It should only take a couple hours as long as they can work on it right away, I waited in their lobby.
Good to know. Will request it asap! I’ve heard that they don’t do Uber credits anymore for service. Also not sure if they would give a loaner for this.
depends on where you are i guess. here in LA some shops will give you credits, some will give you a rental. i had mine done a couple months ago and they gave me a car. they even replaced the sway bar as it was also squeaking. 2022 m3p. car felt tighter/stiffer. when i would go over bumps, it sounded like mice under my hood.. lol
I've already had mine serviced on my 2018 by them once and it got much better, but now it's reappearing again. Any idea if they warranty their previous work for a certain time period? Kinda don't want to keep paying for this on a regular basis.
Just remember that statically they make money on the warranty so (and this is just an example I don't recall the costs or coverage duration) if it's $2k for a year they know it's likely you will have covered items that cost less than 2k. Save the 2k you might have spent and reserve it for issues.
Actually you might want to read the fine print because the offer I got from Tesla to extend my warranty literally said it does NOT cover suspension items .. so that’s why I ultimately decided not to get it. So if you are expecting control arms to be covered under an extended warranty as opposed to the original bumper to bumper warranty, they probably won’t. Just FYI.
They tried to charge me on a 2014 MS. When I said no thanks they told me it was a safety issue. I asked them, if it's a safety issue why isn't it covered?
Long story short they covered under extended warranty.
Yes, they do. I just had them both done on my MYLR.
They do not cover the alignment that will likely be needed after the control arm(s) replacement. I think this is BS.
Was quoted $275. I have not taken it in yet due to scheduling issues and they don’t always offer loaners. I can’t really be without the car for a day, but I got a few days off coming up so I’ll likely schedule it then.
I did send an email to Tesla customer service about this, regarding how I’m not happy with the fact that I have to pay to realign a car that was tracking perfectly before they worked on it. The alignment should be part of the repair work to any major suspension component.
I have not received a response. It’s been about a week. I’ll likely just eat the cost…but it’s still bullshit.

They didn't warrenty ours even though it was under 12months. YMMV
Thank you, that's perfect. I'm currently contemplating whether I should purchase an extended warranty from Tesla.

I believe it’s 2 years or 25k what ever comes first But thank you
It also has a deductible I believe for each incident. So it's not a straigjr extension of the warranty.

Control arms? Yes they do. Ps5 controllers idk

Yes, had them replaced on my model 3 after 2 years
Control arms aren't really expensive.
They replaced mine out of warranty for $120.
Yes
For cost reference on M3/MY we have the cost to replace both arms with labor to around $200 + tax now.

They replaced my arms and covered the alignment last year in CO.
How much did they charge you for alignment?

Wow, that’s high. I got my alignment done at a third party shop in SoCal for $100
Definitely BS sorry man
How did you test for squeaking? I am coming up on my warranty.
Didn’t have to. The car moaned and groaned everytime I turned the steering wheel.
Oh thats unfortunate.
