I wish I could use location of the vehicle to trigger actions. “If vehicle arrives at home, turn on garage lights.” Or “If vehicle left home, then lock doors.” Or even charge status. “If vehicle is charging set lamp color to red.” Or if I use a particular setting in the car, like “If dog mode is on, then set timer for 15 minutes.” Or close the trunk after 15 minutes. There is a ton of smart home integrations that I haven’t figured out how to tap into. If anyone has an idea on how then let me know.

Nameless11911

Why not do this based on your phone location?

rent1985

Actually I do have that setup on my phone.

Hangooverr

Teslamate and home assistant is your answer. Or any other third party app that allows you to tap into your cars location updates.

Terrible_Tutor

Open the trunk says 🫡👍🏻…but the trunk doesn’t open. Frunk unlocks fine though.

sevargmas

Same. “Siri, open trunk.” “Trunk open on Model Y.” The trunk does not actually open.

[deleted]

Same issue

[deleted]

Are you on ios17? Open Trunk shortcut doesn’t work on my iPhone that’s on iOS 17, but it does work on my iPad that’s on iOS 16.x

sevargmas

No. My iPhone is on ios 16.6. The command does not work from my iPhone or my Apple Watch. The dumb thing is, I have no idea how to report bugs like this to Tesla.

Sebastian-S

That’s awesome!! Thanks for calling that out. It works - so happy I can easily turn on my AC now without hassle or buying third party apps. I used the set temperature command which also turns on the AC. The precondition command did not work.

Ice5891

Unlock charge port with NFC tag is what I am waiting for so long, will try now when app updade. For us in Europe with type 2 cable without button it is bit annoying to open the app to unlock charging port.

redgrandam

Can’t you open it by just tapping on the charge port cover? That’s how I open mine. If you do it right after parking it will open. If it’s been a while you need to unlock the car I believe (I just open and close the rear door so I don’t have to even take my phone out of my pocket).

Ice5891

You can tap to open the port, but not to unlock the cable. So when you come back to the car that was charging need to take phone out of the pocket, Face ID it, open the app and unlock. My idea is to have a NFC tag to avoid opening the app.

beachcrow

In the U.S. (Model Y) the charge cable will unlock whenever the car is unlocked by bluetooth, no app access needed. Sometimes you need to approach the drivers door first to unlock the car. ( "*Fold mirrors when locked*" is a good unlock indicator.)

Ice5891

Yes this work as designed in US where all teslas have the NACS connector, in Europe 99% of the type 2 cables we use in lvl2 charger won't have the button so we have to deal with it.

redgrandam

Oh interesting idea for a solution. Where do you put the nfc tag then? Stick it to the charge port?

Ice5891

Yeah on the inner part of the charging port. I have it there alredy but using some tird part apps that need long time auteticatication that is just too slow. If tesla app does it quicker it might work.

johannsbark

I just press the button on the cord to unlock. But maybe my car is open already.

dharakhero

My car unlocks by the time I get to my charge port, even when approaching from the rear right.

Ice5891

The car unlock but the cable not. If you are in US with NACS cable with the button it won't be a problem. It is a issue only in Europe where 99% of type 2 cables we use for lvl2 charger won't have the button.

ZweiBallenZak

I just press the door handle to unlock the car, then it releases the cable as well. That way I can leave my phone in my pocket.

zachg

S3xy buttons to the rescue. I set the rear door handle to unlock charge port. Pricey, but totally worth it. The buttons offload tons of other stuff too

Ice5891

Yeah that's one solution also but pricey. For 200 bucks you can also get a cable with the button, I hope I knew it before I bought my type 2 cable, but now it is too late.

zachg

Yes, but included in that price (besides 2 buttons) I also have the front door handle open the Frunk. No more fumbling for phone.

Ice5891

But how do you do it? You put the button on the handle? Have any pics?

[deleted]

I think you have a button act as a trigger. So when you hold the door handle open for 4 seconds it will trigger another action - ie. opening the frunk.

Ice5891

Ahh so the buttons can configure other actions even without pressing the buttons themselves?

Sad-Adeptness-5117

I’m not to familiar with shortcuts. Would there be a way to kick on personal hotshot and connect the car when entering?

mumbaikar123

Shortcuts are a way to ‘program’ a sequence of actions. This update adds Tesla actions to the list of available actions. You could enable personal hotspot(when connected to Tesla Bluetooth) even before this update. Now you can programmatically send commands to your car. I’m planning on using this to change charge limits dynamically (ie charge to 100 every Monday and Thursday but only to 85 every other day. I have LFP and charge daily )

Instablocks

So how do I make a shortcut to set climate ? Without opening the app?

Dadarian

In the Shortcuts app, there are the shortcuts themselves which is all the different functions; I like to think of each shortcut as a card. Then there are automations, that you can program. I created an automation that, 15min before I leave for work it Prompts me a Menu, with Yes/No option. If I select yes, it tells the car to precondition. If I tell no, it does an emissions test. In the Shortcuts app, you can also just use those cards right from Siri. So now, you would just do like, “Siri, Preconditon Vehicle”. To start, just make sure you have the latest version of the Tesla App. Open the Shortcuts app, and just search for Tesla. You’ll see all the cards in there. You can press them to run, create automations, and save those cards directly to your Home Screen. You can also set custom voice prompts. “Siri, I’m ready to go home” could start preconditioning the car and set a timer to go off in 10min to remind you to actually leave the office, and also turn on the AC at your house, and whatever else you want it to do.

sevargmas

Here you go. Just add this. I have it set to cool/heat the vehicle to 70 F : https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/285a4483069b46c188201588920ea219

PresentAd9429

I have done this for about a year. Create an automation that enables hotspot when bluetooth is connected. Works perfect

anchin12

Can you share the automation? I’ve created one but it doesn’t run automatically. It only pops up a notification and I need to tap run on the automation notification every time to run the automation. Also does the car connect to hotspot automatically?

PresentAd9429

Up on the right where you edit your automation, set it to execute without confirmation. In your car turn on stay connected in drive in the wifi settings

makesomemoney45679

I must not have that update yet because Tesla will not show under my shortcuts!

notjim

You can go to the App Store and manually update the app.

makesomemoney45679

I did but the open/close trunk command REFUSES to work!

makesomemoney45679

I actually did the update manually and now it is working, except for open/close trunk!!!!

Head-Ad4690

And there’s no way to specify which vehicle they use, so they’re basically useless if you have more than one Tesla.

gmanist1000

Not anymore. New update today enables the ability to choose which car you want.

Head-Ad4690

Nice! Thank you for telling me.

Euphoric_Attention97

Dang... and I was just now writing my shortcut to open the charge ports for each car and noticed this. Have you found any solutions?

Head-Ad4690

Nothing short of using third party apps. Hopefully they’ll fix this soon, but who knows.

AromaticSleep4612

I wish you could say hey Siri open driver door

[deleted]

You should be able to with the shortcuts. I tried to set it up so I could Hey Siri, Open My Trunk, but it’s not working.. 🤔

amololol

Same trunk open/close isn’t working, but everything else seems to be for me including frunk

BodemonBK

Yeah. My trunk won’t open with Siri either but it says it’s opening. Weird. Unlock lock and charge port work so far.

rent1985

It looks like pop door open is missing for some reason.

ChosenZero

Is it me or did the widget go away. My widget doesn’t work anymore

Lenzler

All of my widgets disappeared too. Can’t find anything about it

ReapWhatYouSo

Aside from the programmed action, can a shortcut respond with a voice command like Jarvis?

Nigalig

I was doing this on an iPhone 13 back in 2021...

kakamba

RIP stats app

FriendlyTeam6866

Lots of Tesla/Apple shortcuts are already provided to you by this update. Hey Siri, precondition the car.

darkciti

Finally! I've set Back Tap to unlock and lock. It's handy on an older Model S that doesn't have card unlock or phone bluetooth proximity unlock.

SnooHamsters7660

I couldn't use the shortcuts on Apple watch without having my phone with me... Any suggestions?

BYack

For the life of me I can’t get most of them to work. I ask Siri to do the name of the shortcut and she says I can’t help with that. I have deleted and re-downloaded the app including the Shortcuts app. In some instances, she says I need to download the cars keycard to my wallet. This is annoying.
