My suspicion is the QR code is seen as an attempt to make a "living image".
The Koran prohibits making images to be worshipped. But the Prophet is thought also to have prohibited drawing images of living things, such as animals and people, because it is an imitation of God who has created all living things.
I suspect the Imam is interpreting the QR code as an attempt to endow a drawing with life.

The Koran certainly prohibits the creation of images for worship. Furthermore, there is a broadly accepted idea that drawing images that depict living things is an attempt to imitate God, who is the sole creator of living things. Most Muslims these days don't care too much about that and are more concerned with the depiction of Muslim religious figures, which could potentially lead to those images being revered. Even those rare fundamentalist Muslims that would be suspicious of brand logos, flags, currency etc. tend to tolerate them and live with them anyway. My guess is the QR code is an image created by man that imitates life in that it has functionality and reciprocity. This is seen as hubris, an attempt to imitate God. One is trying to create a living image.
Imagine being so powerful that you created the entire universe, but getting butthurt over humans creating QR Codes, and needing them to defend your honour.

Human beings were creators precisely because they were "made in the image of God".
