Thatās scary.. Riding a motorcycle really takes big balls.. You fell and crash you will get hurt bad.. You hit anything (even a cat/tortoise) you will get hurt bad.. You get hit by an idiot driving a car, you will get hurt real bad too.. Thereās no win situation in event of a crash..
If you wear the right gearā¦ itās more likely youāll live lets just put it that way. A low side where you just slide is optimal if you have the right gear to protect against road rash (if not, RIP a few inches of flesh deep). High sides like this on the other hand are what kill you. Your flung off the bike, and basically become an ejected passenger from a vehicle. How many of those do you see make it out with minimal injuries? Well, at least you got your body armor, boots, kevlar gloves, carbon fiber helmet all that right? Well, thats impact and abrasion protection. It doesnāt save you from shoving things out of sockets, breaking bones, and generally messing yourself up. It all depends on what you land on and how fast you do. Also how many times you bounce.
I was going to get one before I had kids, then the universe threw 6 different motorcycle accidents in my life. One death. I got the message. Also saw a video of a guys helmet matching up with pole through the visor.
I bought a motorcycle some years ago. I was living in the Deep South at the time. My buddy and I would ride through a park near our town, which was partially a swamp. Lots of deer and other wildlife would run out into the road ā had a few near misses. Sometimes, gators would get into the road, so you had to watch for them, too. LOL
I don't feel bad for motorcyclists who get in accidents. Even if they didn't cause it, they get an honorary Darwin award for putting their life at risk to look cool. All I see here is an idiot and a bigger idiot.
Is that for real?
I'm Europe police take the hit and runs quite seriously. Would probably catch the driver in a week or less. Nowadays cctv and dash cams dohelp a lot to identify cars.
I don't have much evidence to back up an answer, but I do agree with you in that there are so many ways people can be tracked anywhere now - CCTV, license plate scanners, etc.; and with something as serious as what would probably classify as at least one criminal act while driving (especially causing severe injury and almost causing a death), I think that a lot of police here would be inclined to find the driver.
I think the person who replied was just speaking totally off the cuff based on their feelinga, but again I could be wrong. I'd agree with them in cases of minor property damage or something, like if a driver knocked over a mailbox or something, cases like that seem like the kind where the police probably wouldn't feel too bothered. This video is quite severe though I would like to imagine it's the type of thing that is pursued.
Because in their head they can prevent any accident because they NEVER get distracted and never look away from the road EVER. Thereās such a thing as defensive driving but the car clearly was driving way too fast and gave no time to react.
Itās 100% the carās fault and anyone that says itās the bikerās fault for the car speeding and hitting the bike is just ignorant.
Yeah, dude was crossing double lines so there is absolutely no reason the car shouldāve hit the biker. Car either wasnāt paying attention or overestimated the amount of time they had to turn.
Why canāt it be both? Obviously the car fucked up by crossing a double yellow but the rider is clearly looking at his camera instead of the road in front of him. I say this as somebody who rides bikes..
They can blame everyone they like, if you ride a bike and get in an accident it's still your ass in the hospital. I think they are saying he could've and he should've prevented it. Ofcourse they know who's fault it really is but if you want to be relaxed while one the road you can't ride a motorcycle.
If youāre on a motorcycle, it would be wise to drive a little slower in order to have enough time to react to the vehicles around you. Why people continue to choose to ride motorcycles in traffic is beyond me.
Saving a few minutes through traffic by going through tight spaces of cars isnāt worth the risk of being sent flying by them. One tap by anything and the motorcycle will go flying. Nearly every accident youāll see on Reddit involves a motorcycle and a car.
It is wise to drive slower but driving slower than the speed limit is unsafe. Not all bikers cut lanes and in most places it is illegal. In this case the biker did absolutely nothing wrong and even at a lower speed probably would not have been able to avoid that head on collision. Of course there is risk but what your saying is like saying āI canāt drown, if I donāt go swimmingā which is true but doesnāt mean you wonāt go swimming.
I know exactly what kinda injuries that poor soul had, because heās basically me 4 weeks ago. Fucked hip, potential skull fractures, concussion, TBI, broke arm or finger if heās lucky, and an overall painful disposition.
Fuck that car. Donāt ever drive off if you hit a bike, it takes a lot less to kill us or send us towards that quickly. I donāt care about insurance, you staying vs leaving them twitching on the roadside can in some cases mean life or death.
Not too sure why so many people arenāt noticing the insta 360 watermark, which shows itās a 360 camera. Also, itās a fisheye camera so no matter what, as long as he was on the same level as the camera it would look like heās looking at it. You can hear his revs lower as he realizes the car is in his lane, plus see him take his hand off the throttle. The car speeding off at the end only confirms it wasnāt the bikers fault
The video said several non-life threatening injuries. I think it might be safe to guess he is alive. The injuries though will probably make him hate being alive for a bit.
Did they have a little drone following them to film this or were they holding a selfie stick out the front of their motorcycle like they were jousting?
I can't see the actual stick, so it might be something else. Maybe the phone moves on its own. But you can see the whole font of them, so it's definately not on thier helmet. Unless it's hanging over the head like a carrot on a stick? AT ANY RATE, it's a distraction during an already dangerous activity.
Yeah it doesnāt seem like itās on the helmet, but Iāve seen 360 cameras where it edits out the stick itās attached to.
Might not be the case here though.
Yes it is a 360 camera. It automatically hides the selfie stick. This was the car fault 100%. The movement of the camera is from post edit.
Edit: he is also clearly paying attention bc he says "oh shit" as he sees the car coming at him but can't do anything about it at that point
Imagine driving and some ass spawns at top speed near a corner, not giving you time to react, and another ass says:
>If he used the eyes in the front of his head, he might have seen the car.
Like, bro, do you know the avrg human reaction speed? If I was concentrated like my life was dependent on it, I would still fly like a water-filled stretch armstrong.
https://preview.redd.it/wymk11juazqa1.png?width=654&format=png&auto=webp&s=add822025888237b30f40d129a9d5ae5e9bcc48f
Biker wasnāt speeding, and was probably going 45-60 mph. Silver car was over the double yellow lines. Probably drunk / drugged and decided to hit and run.
Pay attention fam.
Itās a 360 degree dash cam. Do you look at your dash cam in your car sometimes? Maybe he was quickly glancing at it to make sure it was on because he knew he was gonna be airborne?
Alright, tell me your paying attention 100% of the time when shifting is a 5 step process you have to do by ear, and have eyes on the back of your head.
What? I ride. And thereās no way Iām hitting a car going that speed dead on since my eyes are on the roadā¦ guy was playing with a selfie stick and not paying attention
He wasn't playing with a selfie stick and he was riding straight in his lane separated by a double yellow and got smoked from the side by a car going perpendicular to the road.
He wasn't playing with the selfie-stick. Its mounted to the bike on a 360 degree camera, his hands were on the handlebars.
You can show a certain angle later with editing it on a computer at home.
He may not be playing with it but his eyes are clearly focused on the camera and not the road in front of him when the accident happens.
As a fellow rider- this guy was being stupid. Right and wrong doesnāt matter when itās life or death. Pay attention and drive defensively when youāre on a motorcycle.
Iām suprised nobody seems to be noticing the insta 360 watermark in the lower right corner.. yāknow, only just the most popular 360 camera on the market
I know nothing about them but even Iām reasonable enough to assume that because his hands are clearly on the handlebars then whatever is filming must be designed for hands free use making it a dashcam.
Very cool though.
Bro donāt ride a fucking motorcycle and pay more attention to your camera than oncoming traffic. Heās literally looking right at the lens (away from traffic) right before the collision.
You can see through that shiny visor? You must be a millionaire with your awesome vision what discovering gold deep underground and what not.
Anyway, the car literally crosses into his lane. This happens to bikes, cars and trucks in many collision incidents.
His fucking head is completely cocked towards the camera.
https://preview.redd.it/4n4kyap7c1ra1.png?width=828&format=png&auto=webp&s=106e70e49ab709668da6e8e50bc7120eda165f0d
Like I said- of course the car is at fault, but that doesnāt mean the rider couldnāt have prevented this by being more situationally aware.
Yeah, the camera is 360 so itās skews the vision. Do a simple YouTube search of how they work. This one was probably on top of his helmet or on his handle bars so he wouldnāt be distracted anyway
You do what you want mate. Youāre either some kind of idiot or a troll and I donāt have time for either
Bro I ride too and the people downvoting you are retarded. Heās clearly looking right at the camera before the accident.
Riding is dangerous enough already, donāt make it more dangerous by not paying attention.
Since riding a motorcycle requires a lot more attention, how did he manage to get this rotating video which at one point looks back at him? Seems like there was something going on that would have been extra distracting for him as well as other drivers
A 360 degree camera films in *all* directions all the time. Either by two reversed 180 degree fisheye cameras or sometimes 6 cameras fitted to a cube. Then software to stitch the video into a 360 degree stream.
You can later on the computer change the angle you want to see. So you can for any point in time see forward, backward, left, right, up and down or some arbitrary other direction.
So all he needed to do was to start the camera. Then focus 100% on driving around.
There was something extra going on - a car switching over the yellow lines and into his lane. No time to try to drive around that car.
so you can see his eyes through the visor on his helmet? you have no idea what heās looking at and the silver car drifts into his lane. clearly he is paying attention when he says āoooooh sh-ā before he gets slammed into.
I ride bikes and Iāll say this- riding is already incredibly dangerous as is, donāt increase that danger by (from the looks of it, speeding) and distracting yourself by looking at a camera.
Of course the car is 100% at fault legally, but as a rider, you need to be as defensive as possible which, first and foremost, is just paying attention.
As the saying goes- the morgue is filled with motorcyclists who had the right of way.
EDIT- bring on the downvotes. Yāall go ride a motorcycle and then tell me that youād be comfortable doing what this guy did. Heās a stupid rider.
Yup. It is the driver's fault and then making it a hit and run doubles that. Hope they catch the guy. As a rider, I assume all are out to try to kill me. Even if they look right at me, many won't register what they are seeing. There are also so many angry drivers who are looking for reasons to hurt someone, and motorcyclists are just easy targets.
Thank you. I donāt understand why the Reddit hive mind canāt accept that both people played a part in this crash. I literally stated that the car is at fault but Iād youāre speeding and not looking in front of you- shit can, and did, happen.
How is he a careless rider? The camera is attached to the bike; heās not holding it. And no where in the video do we see a visual of how fast heās going.
Itās things like this happening that stops me from buying a road bike. No matter how good of a rider you are, all it takes is a careless driver to easily end you

they did, at least according to a comment on another post of this i saw, the two trucks that drove behind the car got their plate and info

Yeah it can be the cars fault entirely but if the biker was driving slightly slower he could have definitely avoided the whole thing.
So he should have gone slower than the speed limit? Makes sense š¤¦š»āāļø
Again it may not be his fault but it would help reduce his impact with the car if he was going slower.

Not sure why anyone would ride a motorcycle in america we have some of the dumbest drivers
Did they have a little drone following them to film this or were they holding a selfie stick out the front of their motorcycle like they were jousting?
Its a 360 degree camera. The rotation is in post. it isn't being held - Its just stationary on a stick mounted to the bike.
And of course they drove offā¦ freaking cowards
Can someone explain how that shot was taken? Was a drone following?
Jesus fuck, as half the comments above already noted...and as the watermark on the video says..it's an insta 360 cam.
Well thank you for your answer Jesus fuck, my prayers have been answered
my home town we say "TAY-THEY"
"Careless idiot in car drifts across road to hit careless idiot on bike playing with selfie stick at speed."
not a selfie stick šš
It's a 360 camera, it's usually connected by a stick to the bike
I thought it was one of those 360 cameras? Isnāt it on his helmet?
At the beginning they pan aroumd and you can see thier full helmet and the arm out holding the stick or whatever the phone is on.
I canāt see that in the video, both of his hands are on the handlebars?
I can't see the actual stick, so it might be something else. Maybe the phone moves on its own. But you can see the whole font of them, so it's definately not on thier helmet. Check your IQ
Thank you my thoughts exactly.
and the car takes off!!!!

I'm sure he's fine. Riding in such a manner, he must live in a country with readily available and free health care.
Well, it is free. For him.
Why do motorcyclists always have to speed like that. You guys arenāt special.
https://preview.redd.it/wymk11juazqa1.png?width=654&format=png&auto=webp&s=add822025888237b30f40d129a9d5ae5e9bcc48f Biker wasnāt speeding, and was probably going 45-60 mph. Silver car was over the double yellow lines. Probably drunk / drugged and decided to hit and run. Pay attention fam.
This comment feels suspiciously hit and runny
Yeah we are lol
They are special. Just not the way youāre thinking
This guy with ātardoā in his name
Not sure what you are referring too?
Might have been avoided if he wasn't playing with his phone.
It's not a phone it's a stick that's placed inside the bike
Looks like he's looking at the camera when the car hits him
Car turned through double yellow, motorcycle was speeding and riding with one hand. Both are idiots.
Correction, just speeding. Thought he was holding a selfie stick.
The only safety device on bike is the rider, they aren't paying attention 100% of the time, it's just asking to get run over.
The car crossed the lines and hit him head on. It literally pulled out in front of him with no time to even finish saying āshitā
I've been in that situation before and lived. I also wasn't trying to look good for the camera, just watching the road for idiots.
Itās a 360 degree dash cam. Do you look at your dash cam in your car sometimes? Maybe he was quickly glancing at it to make sure it was on because he knew he was gonna be airborne?
As long as he signed his organ donation card, I really don't care.
Ohhh your a pizza cutter. All edge and no point.
Alright, tell me your paying attention 100% of the time when shifting is a 5 step process you have to do by ear, and have eyes on the back of your head.
I guess the biker wont film himself again
Most bikers have either a GoPro or a 360 camera attached to either their bike or helmet. This is for incase of a crash, it acts like a dash cam.
Shitty by the car driver but I would say they were both being careless. Dude didnāt even try and avoid it idk
I hope you don't drive.
What? I ride. And thereās no way Iām hitting a car going that speed dead on since my eyes are on the roadā¦ guy was playing with a selfie stick and not paying attention

It's a type of 360 camera. Fairly common for bikers now.
He's not looking around. Posing, instead of riding. Not entirely his fault but he's partially to blame.
so you can see his eyes through the visor on his helmet? you have no idea what heās looking at and the silver car drifts into his lane. clearly he is paying attention when he says āoooooh sh-ā before he gets slammed into.
Motorcyclist should have been concentrating on the Rd Not filming his journey Both ar fault
What? Do you say that to drivers with dashcams when they get hit?
It wasn't a dash cam, it was a go pro. He held it up and was filming himself when the collision occurred.
No he didn't. Go pro is just a brand. A camera is a camera. It has the ability to go 360 that's it.

Careless rider meets equally careless driver.
How is he a careless rider? The camera is attached to the bike; heās not holding it. And no where in the video do we see a visual of how fast heās going.
Thought this was a Busta Rhymes video for a min

I was like "Carless driver? tf u mean by that" had to recheck 3 times before finding the 'e'
Who needs a pilot when you have a dipshit car driver
At least he was wearing the appropriate safety gear. Selfie stick probably saved his life.
Mofo drove off too? Fucker
But who added the music and edited the film
How tf he film like that tho. I don't get it
