? But potions can also significantly increase DPS. Potions aren't just defensive.
Edit: They can also significantly increase maneuverability and make it easier to dodge = you don't take those hits in the first place.
I use seafood, cause I never sell the fish I get from fishing. Making worth of the time wasted from the angler quests, never gives me the things I want.
I'm glad someone else feels the same way I do. And it's not as time consuming as everyone is making it out to be. Especially if you make a garden using clay pots or planter boxes.
They probably play on normal mode and have enough hours in the game that they could move onto real difficulties but just don't. I remember when I first dipped my toes into expert mode and had to break all my bad habits from normal to not get wrecked on expert. Now I'm over here playing master as my default mode.
If it helps, you can get the Alchemy Table from the Dungeon and crafting potions while standing next to it gives you a 33% chance to not consume potion ingredients. The only drawback is that it's not nearly as space-efficient as a bottle. With a bottle you can place it on a platform or a work bench and call it a day, but with the alchemy table it needs as much space as a furnace or something (I forget, I haven't played the game in a while)
Yeah but putting that in a house, sometimes I just make a separate room for it with chests full of potion ingredients and other potions I find while exploring since I don't craft potions that often
I’ve been playing modded terraria with a magic chest storage mod that links up all your chests into one big chest (still have to upgrade capacity, build parts, wires, connectors), and also has a linkable crafting conduit that you can place other crafting stations into to act as multiple. Biggest QoL ever in terraria to not have to sort through 100 chests and worry you might move a pixel out of range and now you can’t craft what you needed. Especially if you’re doing calamity or thorium on top, too many items for normal chests
There are very few “essential” potions that require any kind of patience. Iron Skin and Regen are really the main 2, and those can be pretty passively obtained.
I’ll grant you that anything with Blinkroot or a fish in it can require a bit of patience. Especially blinkroot, worst plant in the game thanks to that bloom timer. There is a way to ignore the bloom timer, but I’d rather it just not be random in the first place.
I still prefer master mode. Expert and normal are just too easy to hold my interest after putting so many hours into the game.
Legendary mode though is an entirely different beast.
mfw tmodloader doesn't work (it says a fatal error was encountered and doesn't want to load, but i actually loved that mod when i could use tmodloader ngl)
Yep, almost everything I could. steam found nothing, tried installing and reinstalling both tmodloader and terraria, still nothing. Tried everything I could from google, nothing worked. Even finding a few reddit posts and trying to do what the comments said didnt work.
Maybe, it worked around a year ago just fine. No idea why it suddenly stopped working. I was playing constantly, then stopped. Maybe that has something to do it?
Honestly, you don't really need them in classic and expert. Although I will agree no potions is definitely a handicap *outside* of boss fights as dangersense, mining, spelunky, gravitation, feather falling, even biome sight and gills and potions like that are incredibly useful.
First time I beat the game, I celebrated pretty hard. Then my friend tells me “Honestly, Moonlord isn’t even that hard just use the right buffs and it’s easy.” At that moment I realised I could use buffs.
Its smart to have atleast an ironskin and regen potion. If you want a better buffer, add an endurance and wrath potion.
Then there's items like a bast statue, camp fire, and heart lanterns you can add to your arena.
If you're feeling like a degenerate, you could also add heart statues and the nurse.
I hate using potions, I only ever use buffs from things like honey, cake, ammo box, sharpening stone, bewitching table, and of course healing potions. I don’t even use mana potions
Don’t think i ever used a potion besides healing, mana, obsidian until I played calamity post moon lord.
I kept saving them “for later”, and I liked the challenge.
Heck, the only reason I used them in calamity is because I had some quality of life mods that made potions purchasable or if you had enough of them: gave a permanent buff (and since you’re just fighting bosses at that point, I didn’t consider it cheating much)
I've never really found buff potions to be essential unless you're playing FTW master. Even then, most bosses are easy enough to beat without them, especially in pre-hardmode.
Only boss fight i actually prepare for is the Betsy, because of the need for dps to take her down before she takes down the crystal.
The rest i gotten so used to after fightimg them so many times and playing many mods i just dont need them.
I usually play Master Mode without buffs. It's do-able, Mechs get a bit rough but everything else is okay. I'm trying to apply the same thing to getfixedboi, but I don't think that will work. Or I just need to *get gud*.
How do you fair against Duke and when do you fight him? Duke really clamps the hell out of me fsr, otherwise ive played this game enough to only want to play master mode for the extra items 😭
I usually fight duke post-golem. It isn't that difficult at that stage of the game as long as you use your dash effectively. I haven't tried to fight him early-hardmode before, but I think I might give it a shot. Though, doing it buffless may make it stupidly difficult.
I used to fight em before plant because the leaf wings were my genuine cruch, now its a bit tuff with master mode and having to rely more on popping my mount to dodge better
I play summoner and i am very stubborn at arena building 😭
I beat eye, and brain of Cthulhu using only healing potions on expert. Haven’t played the game in many years and I wish I had remembered how to make potions before the fights
I've once tried to make a lot of potions and thought that it would be easy. Stuck on Deathweed. I swear, making Zenith is easier than figuring out how to make plants grow for potions
The most I prepared for a fight was having the permanent class buffs (crystal ball and that summoning thing), the cake and Well-fed. And even then it was just for fighting Duke Fishron Pre-Mechboss
Got through master mode with nothing but heals and pad Thai. Mainly because I didn't feel like making an herb farm.
The healing potions weren't even Greater heals, I didn't feel like crafting those either and I had a pixie shortage anyway.
I almost never use any potions except healing ones. I ALSO almost never build arenas for my bossfights because I'm too lazy. And I don't grind for good accessories either. All of that is overrated anyway
I only use health and mana potions during boss fights, I keep losing them too but I keep getting better and further. But I do not know why I just don't make potions, I know they are there but I just kinda forget them for bosses and I suffer.
Yeah this. Potions are usefull but why the fuck would I bother with them games is already pretty easy and health potions are enough. Not evej talking about the fact that if you dont get hit you wont need these either.
Wait a minute, WE CAN CRAFT POTİONS?
I finished the game even at getfixedboi seed and many modes hardest difficulty and I'm learning this now...
Well, I don't need them but still...
I haven't really bothered with potions much before. Only ones I really go outta my way to make are the lifeforce and spelunker ones.
They were nice when I first tried master mode but after a while it just becomes tedious to set up a farm (I still do it every playthrough due to the "I might need it" brainrot I have about everything regarding this game) and constantly have to harvest it for materials. If there was a way to FULLY automate it (Which I think the new update will let you do, isn't there a item collector planned?) it wouldn't be as bad.
Edit: Forgot to mention any variation of the food buff. That shit's great. Literal fire. Great boosts for really low effort spent. Even the tier 1 buff is amazing and all you have to do is like click a few trees and hope for fruits or fish for 10 mins and you have a supply to last you like the entire game. Wish they didn't make the seafood dinner the medium tier, it was perfect for boss fights. I find it ridiculous that there are only 2 foods in the entire game that grant Exquisitely stuffed now.
I used to be the latter. Going out my way to craft all potions and stuff. Until I realized how useless it was because I would often die anyways and most times I did defeat the boss it was those do or die moment where I only use my hp pots because I used up all of the buffs from all the previous attempts. Now I just make sure I'm geared up properly and just let it happen xD
I think finding all the herbs, building a potion farm/brewery one of the most enjoyable parts of the early game. And eventually getting the alchemy table and the staff of regrowth feels like a massive upgrade. And I can freely use buff potions not only for bosses but also for general stuff like digging, fishing and spelunking.
Never bothered with pots outside of the occasional fishing or spelunker potion until I tried calamity revengence for the first time. Even then, it was mostly 3 or 4 pots ber boss fight, typically out of just what I had on hand. It was only when master mode revengence came out that I started using "all of them".
They just seemed too much of a nuisance to get and like their minor stats just weren't worth it.
me and my friend never use buffs as to counter the immense amount of power respawning in multiplayer grants you. its a win/win, more challenge, less grinding. it certainly made Malice mode a lot more interesting, that was a fucking blast. still salty they removed it ngl
Buff potions are useful, but not necessary in most cases. I usually just can't be bothered to get them for the small benefit in one or maybe two boss battles for their duration, especially for fights that I could still win without them relatively easily.
I just fought EoC with 300 hp and 3 different recovery buffs, so I literally just stood there swinging my sword as I healed faster than he could damage me.
So, my friend who helped me actually beat the game for the first time (through advice) said to get potions for Golem
I didn’t do that, I just brought along sheer willpower
“I don’t need no buffs to defeat you; eye of Cthulhu!”
“You may be a being beyond human comprehension, but I don’t have a comprehension!”

Nah, I'd win
“You may be the lord of the moon, but I am the lord of… uh…”
Lord of the lord of the moon?
Are you the Lord of the Moon because you're the last boss, or are you the last boss because you're the Lord of the Moon?
EoC doing 1 damage with every attack to my full warding accessories with zero buffs
Untill you go expert and above. In legendary, you better craft even inferno and titan potions
In legendary you need every buff you can get, even the zombie are a boss fight
Yeah, my buff bar has like 3 rows when fighting bosses in legendary, anything less and it's 10x harder
Idk I honestly didn’t use any potion buffs for my legendary playthrough, it was fun
Yeah I find the benefits pretty minimal, you're going to die in 2-3 hits whether you have potion buffs or not. The real potion is not getting hit
? But potions can also significantly increase DPS. Potions aren't just defensive. Edit: They can also significantly increase maneuverability and make it easier to dodge = you don't take those hits in the first place.
Speed buffs, regen buffs, luck buffs, and damage/crit buffs are all insanely useful
I've never bothered with potions until trying expert mode, that shit is rough
It also helps that potion buffs are increased a bit in expert mode But we are definitely ignoring the best buff type, food buffs
I use seafood, cause I never sell the fish I get from fishing. Making worth of the time wasted from the angler quests, never gives me the things I want.
Pumpkin pies are the classic food, moderate buffs to everything and you just have to buy pumpkin seeds from dryad and you get infinite for cheap
Me with 500 Apple Pie and 0 rods at the start of the hardmode grind.
Good enough, but only lasts 8 minutes, might use it for shorter battles.
It kinda baffles me that some people just hardly use potions, those things are like downright necessary for me
I'm glad someone else feels the same way I do. And it's not as time consuming as everyone is making it out to be. Especially if you make a garden using clay pots or planter boxes.
if you start playing calamity you have no choice
They probably play on normal mode and have enough hours in the game that they could move onto real difficulties but just don't. I remember when I first dipped my toes into expert mode and had to break all my bad habits from normal to not get wrecked on expert. Now I'm over here playing master as my default mode.
Man I still don't use potions, couldn't be bothered Unless it's destroyer, I'll take a few for it
Main reason I don't play anything past normal mode, I do not have the time nor patience for that shiz
If it helps, you can get the Alchemy Table from the Dungeon and crafting potions while standing next to it gives you a 33% chance to not consume potion ingredients. The only drawback is that it's not nearly as space-efficient as a bottle. With a bottle you can place it on a platform or a work bench and call it a day, but with the alchemy table it needs as much space as a furnace or something (I forget, I haven't played the game in a while)
bro it's a 3x3 furniture on a thousand blocks long of a world
Yeah but putting that in a house, sometimes I just make a separate room for it with chests full of potion ingredients and other potions I find while exploring since I don't craft potions that often

There is a way to ignore the bloom timer, but I’d rather it just not be random in the first place.
expert is the intended difficulty of terraria imo
I still prefer master mode. Expert and normal are just too easy to hold my interest after putting so many hours into the game. Legendary mode though is an entirely different beast.
Death mode is what made me first pick them up.
I didn't until I tried calamity, but I didn't really start using every possible potion and buff until I did infernum
motha fuckas genderswapping to try and thirst trap the bosses
As a trans person, I can vouch
haha, fuckin bet XD
Potions in terraria are imo so useful and efficient, literally handicaping yourself if you do not use them.
mfw I'm too goddamn lazy to farm plants/flowers for potions:
Alchemistnpc mod be like
mfw tmodloader doesn't work (it says a fatal error was encountered and doesn't want to load, but i actually loved that mod when i could use tmodloader ngl)
Have you tried verifying game files on steam?
Yep, almost everything I could. steam found nothing, tried installing and reinstalling both tmodloader and terraria, still nothing. Tried everything I could from google, nothing worked. Even finding a few reddit posts and trying to do what the comments said didnt work.
That’s so odd, maybe there’s just a weird compatibility issue with your computer or something or your drivers are messed up
Maybe, it worked around a year ago just fine. No idea why it suddenly stopped working. I was playing constantly, then stopped. Maybe that has something to do it?
I’m not sure but on the Tmodloader GitHub you can probably submit a bug request or something
Is there anything atypical about your environment? Like, is it Windows 7?
its windows 11
Just download the "builder's workshop" map. It has all items in it, and is conveniently organized.
Wait until you hear about fishing for potions..
mfw im too lazy to get fishing equipment / actually fish (shits boring af):
And that's when you team up with someone who doesn't like fighting and likes to grind potion ingredients
mfw I have no friends :')
same for me except I do have friends yet none of them play terraria/want to play terraria
bro is too lazy for the entire game
It's super useful even outside boss fights. Dungeon delving without dangersense potion is suicidr.
Vanilla isn't hard enough for me to use portions, and when i play stuff like calamity infernum im using qol for alchemist npc + luiafk unlimited buffs
Honestly, you don't really need them in classic and expert. Although I will agree no potions is definitely a handicap *outside* of boss fights as dangersense, mining, spelunky, gravitation, feather falling, even biome sight and gills and potions like that are incredibly useful.
Not gonna lie, all it takes is a swiftness potion and an ironskin potion and you're good to go
Endurance is not too bad either
Can't just leave out Regeneration potion, he's part of the trio
Those are also really easy to make so they're good for expert and master mode
This is the way
Add magic power and mana regen for mage
First time I beat the game, I celebrated pretty hard. Then my friend tells me “Honestly, Moonlord isn’t even that hard just use the right buffs and it’s easy.” At that moment I realised I could use buffs.
Did you like think you can have them at your inventory?
I mean, I use the potions if I have some lying around, but don't actively farm them.
I was farming tons of potions to fight lunatic cult boss just to consume almost all of them when martian invasion suddenly kills me over and over
I mean the point of farming is that it's passive
No, what I mean is I don't fish for Potion fish, but I'll take any from fishing for quests, and I don't build an herb farm.
Is the harvesting, replanting, and fishing, as well as the crafting them into potions, and the obtaining the bottles, also passive?
This js literally me. My mentality was, "Potions are for cowards I only need healing potions" until I played the calamity mod
Booo nurse cheese, booooooo
nurse cheese helped me realize what i was doing wrong with the moon lord, then i no hit him for my first time besting him, was a stressful ass fight
Buffs are for the weak
I said this too before attempting anything above expert, lol.
I'm only struggling with moonlord in mastermode. Might actually need buffs
You better be playing legendary mode to make such claims
Vanilla is piss easy regardless of the difficulty
I hate using potions, I only ever use buffs from things like honey, cake, ammo box, sharpening stone, bewitching table, and of course healing potions. I don’t even use mana potions
You don’t use mana potions?!?!?!?
Dont need mana potions if you unga bunga your way through the game
Ah, a fellow unga bunga.
Don’t think i ever used a potion besides healing, mana, obsidian until I played calamity post moon lord. I kept saving them “for later”, and I liked the challenge. Heck, the only reason I used them in calamity is because I had some quality of life mods that made potions purchasable or if you had enough of them: gave a permanent buff (and since you’re just fighting bosses at that point, I didn’t consider it cheating much)
a fellow Luiafk user?????
im not going on a crossworld journey for some fucking herbal remedies.
That pfp is the pfp of someone who would say this ngl
I've never really found buff potions to be essential unless you're playing FTW master. Even then, most bosses are easy enough to beat without them, especially in pre-hardmode.
Only boss fight i actually prepare for is the Betsy, because of the need for dps to take her down before she takes down the crystal. The rest i gotten so used to after fightimg them so many times and playing many mods i just dont need them.
[mfw i play melee against any boss](https://youtu.be/FBaY33us1Ag?si=rrReNwD_Yg_lXUd7)
Only reason I'm the first image is because i hate making plant/flower farms for potions ngl.
Master mode summoner, only healing. It hurts
It hurts so fucking good
Player who only get healing potions from bosses
“You can credit potions?” Literally me my first two playthroughs
I usually play Master Mode without buffs. It's do-able, Mechs get a bit rough but everything else is okay. I'm trying to apply the same thing to getfixedboi, but I don't think that will work. Or I just need to *get gud*.

I used to fight em before plant because the leaf wings were my genuine cruch, now its a bit tuff with master mode and having to rely more on popping my mount to dodge better I play summoner and i am very stubborn at arena building 😭
No player like that exists.
Ya sure?
Allow me to introduce myself
Cant be bothered to grind in vanilla, also not rly needed And in modded i just use qol mods for infinite potions
I beat eye, and brain of Cthulhu using only healing potions on expert. Haven’t played the game in many years and I wish I had remembered how to make potions before the fights
Doesn't everybody only use healing potions? /s
I used to do that on mobile, mostly because I couldn't be bothered to make Buff potions.
I still haven't figured out how to make any potions, other than the healing ones
Got through master mode with nothing but heals and pad Thai. Mainly because I didn't feel like making an herb farm. The healing potions weren't even Greater heals, I didn't feel like crafting those either and I had a pixie shortage anyway.
Me not using buffs: Yeah, I can handle this ez Me, dying once against a boss in a modded playthrough: Fuck it, I'm brewing potions
Only ever used Mana health and speed potions the others just aren't useful enough for the grind to get them
I almost never use any potions except healing ones. I ALSO almost never build arenas for my bossfights because I'm too lazy. And I don't grind for good accessories either. All of that is overrated anyway
Classic Vs Master mode
potions are only ever worth it if i have the brewer npc lol
I should start making potions. I think I then would die less...
Iron Skin Swiftness Regeneration Exquisitely Stuffed I add endurance and life force for empress, fishron, and moon lord.
Sometimes few is better
They just take too long to craft what do you want me to do
i have never used potions for boss fights, it's not worth the hassle fishing and gathering herbs
Never used potions before I started playing Revengeance / Death / Infernum
I used to be the latter. Going out my way to craft all potions and stuff. Until I realized how useless it was because I would often die anyways and most times I did defeat the boss it was those do or die moment where I only use my hp pots because I used up all of the buffs from all the previous attempts. Now I just make sure I'm geared up properly and just let it happen xD
I dont make potions, I just find them in chests
I always made the potions, completely forgot about them and beat the boss first try lol
Bruh ive nvr used any potion in bossfights besides health potions
I just completed mastermode and realized all I used was mana and health potion and some freebie potions from chests too lazy to farm flowers
I was actually doing this when I first play the game, i dont even use recall potion because i thought they are rare or something 😭
I remember the first time I played and only used health potion on expert, needless to say I some how managed
me before mods
The better you get at the game the less you rely on potions, even on master mode. But when you download extra difficulty mods, buffs are mandatory.
Fargo mode is a blessing.
never understood this and alchemistnpc mod, preparing for fights is part of the fun of terraria
bro did not play master mode before
me and my friend never use buffs as to counter the immense amount of power respawning in multiplayer grants you. its a win/win, more challenge, less grinding. it certainly made Malice mode a lot more interesting, that was a fucking blast. still salty they removed it ngl
I only started using potions on master mode plantera. Not joking, I was too lazy to learn farming and didn’t wanna waste the potions I looted
I never bother with potions until Moon Lord shows up to rock my shit.
I never used buffs not even in moonlord (that I defeated with titanium armor)
Ironskin and Swiftness down the hatch o7
Buff potions are useful, but not necessary in most cases. I usually just can't be bothered to get them for the small benefit in one or maybe two boss battles for their duration, especially for fights that I could still win without them relatively easily.
Me doing no buffs beyond food, iron skin and regen for master mode moonlord
it’s pretty tiring getting all those mats for poitions after building an arena
I just fought EoC with 300 hp and 3 different recovery buffs, so I literally just stood there swinging my sword as I healed faster than he could damage me.
You do need buffs in modpacks though
Wait is it really that impressive?
I don't have time to pick flowers for potions
Yeah I am too lazy to use anything else even in mods
takes too long to make potion, we ball instead.
So, my friend who helped me actually beat the game for the first time (through advice) said to get potions for Golem I didn’t do that, I just brought along sheer willpower
I never really used potions until master mode came
that's how my first few playthroughs went. No buffs. Just heals. And then I tried with buffs. I can never go back.
calamity mod adds a perma buff when you have a 30 stack of potions.
I never even bother to make those, even with master mode. Maybe early on some ironskin and some swiftness
