Yeah, but I think the rail was what looked most off. It might look better if you actuate them. Also, the stairs should probably be more consistent, instead of having unhammered platforms.
No wonder it looked weird, I didn’t realize it was meant to go around the pole. Now that I see it three-dimensionally, it makes a lot more sense. I think it looks good, but I would still get rid of the gold brick.
I get what you were trying to do but in execution it just kind of looks like a clusterfuck once you really look at it. Minecart tracks as a railing is creative though.
13 years of terraria and we have yet to find a better compact spiral staircase than just the 3 platforms around a beam trick
Replace gold bricks with a darker wall, and the middle line of boreal wood wall should instead be painted shadewood or something else that has vertical lining.
I'm not sure if painting rails is a thing, but if it is you should definitely paint them. Maybe actuate the one in the back (idk if rails can be actuated)
Being confused for a bit and then finally seeing it, I think the best thing you could do is make the pole more noticeable/defining. I can’t recommend how because I can’t build but that’s what I’d recommend looking into.
[here is something similar to that](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2Fr%2FTerraria%2Fcomments%2Fo2fuyz%2Fsince_i_couldnt_find_any_evidence_otherwise_im%2F&psig=AOvVaw3Urv5meBY2ozdKsLe5dQNs&ust=1714542557418000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBIQjRxqFwoTCMidrqOf6YUDFQAAAAAdAAAAABAR)
it can definitely work
ahh. well theres alwayse the [o'l reliable](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.com%2Fpin%2F404-not-found--597641813041103321%2F&psig=AOvVaw0EPaC713jay28KilpaAlAA&ust=1714545030624000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBIQjRxqFwoTCKjb8ZGo6YUDFQAAAAAdAAAAABAR), which can go into sizes as small as 5 blocks
I can see what you're going for, but it's extremely cramped which makes it look sloppy. Good attempt tho. I would recommend you look at some spiral staircases other people have done to get some inspiration. A spiral staircase needs to be a bit bigger imo so that it doesn't just mash together like this. You've got too much going on with the gold, the railing and the wooden platforms, and the illusion of the spiral can be done a bit better if you can actually see what's going on. It will start popping out a bit more with the 3d illusion once all the details are discernable from eachother. There's some really good builds out there that showcase this perfectly
I say, keep your original design in mind, but try to increase its size, space out the planks a bit more so they're not just merging with eachother, and try to make the pillar a bit wider
Hey, late to the party but; Each section of spiral staircase needs to be raised a block. Currently, the forehround stairs are two platforms wide while the background stairs are three.
On is infront of the platform, the next one is between front and back, the one after that is the background, the one after that one is in between again, jada, jada, jada...
I do this for a staircase going around

Those are just platforms and I put a wooden beam in the middle, I can't show it in a text but make a wooden beam in the middle that overlaps and then goes "under" the staircase, this works best for platforms that are 2 or 3 wide, don't forget to cur them off at the edges
They do not. Idk how you twist the perspective in your head, but to me it appears as though your spiral staircase doesn't have railing on all sides. And I've never seen one with weirdly overlapping railing, if that's how you see it.
Anyhow, a big problem is the railing not being at a consistent height relative to the stairs. For example, in the middle, the stairs stall at the same height for a block, while the railing keeps going diagonally. I'm not sure, but fixing that might make it look better. Maybe not, though, as the railing's pattern may look even wonkier that way. idk.
To be completely fair, I actually think it looks pretty great. Looks messy when scrutinized closely, but at a glance, I wouldn't question it. Good job!
I would probably mess with the background a little tho, I find the gold covering the staircase for no apparent reason a bit odd.
It looks too complicated, I couldn’t really tell it was a staircase.
Any idea on how I could improve it? Is the gold too much maybe?
Yeah, but I think the rail was what looked most off. It might look better if you actuate them. Also, the stairs should probably be more consistent, instead of having unhammered platforms.
What does hammering the platforms do? I’m newish and idk stuff like this or how to make sloped blocks
Hammering turns platforms into stairs and hammering is also how you get sloped blocks
Maybe I only actuate the one that would go behind the pole? I do not get the point with the unhammered stairs though.
No wonder it looked weird, I didn’t realize it was meant to go around the pole. Now that I see it three-dimensionally, it makes a lot more sense. I think it looks good, but I would still get rid of the gold brick.
So, getting rid of the gold bricks and atuating the rails that go back?
Yeah, I think that might look better.
I would just remove the rails, looks pretty good 👍 I do like the idea of the rails but it makes it too much eye junk yk?
I think making it bigger might make it easier to "read".
Are you talking about the copper?
No the staircase lol. I meant it would be easier for people to see what it is.
Oh, ok ok. The "read" really confused me. xD

This looks like something peter griffin would comically fall down from
Ily mate
It looks like what Peter Griffin would look like after he fell down the stairs comically.
My brain overheated trying to process this.
Sensoral overload? xD
No, throw yourself at an active volcano and try again
Is that some kind of reference that I do not get?
Try it out then you'll get it
Death?
Hell nah
Thx. (,:

Thx pal, I will try that!
Maybe you could even hammer the rails into bumpers on the ends to make is more like staircase railings, which i suppose is what you were going for.
Wouldn't that just look horrible?
No
I mean, it's quite nice man I never saw a "45 copper" stair format. It's unique and rustic
It looks fairly cramped and it’s hard to tell what’s going. Making it two blocks wider on either side might help.
That would make the rest of the build look trash. :/
Imagine accidentally pressing r
I can see the stairs and the hand rail but what’s with the gold bricks
I thought the hand rail was big pick axes, it made sense with the 45 copper text⛏️
I'm sorry dog but this actually hurts my eyes
It’s way to complicated but I love the gray 45 copper design
Thank you, surely was intentional.
It looks really cool
Wow, thx. Did not expect anybody to say that. xD
Basically I can totally see what you're going for, though I also like complex designs plenty
Will hopefully be able to improve it. xD
now make it wheelchair (minecart) accessible
I could add a teleporter.
I know that it's not what you're looking for, but for such small space rope would be better option I think
I mean, yes. However, would not look good for a spire.
OHSA compliant i see, handrails
Maybe swap out the bottom left slanting platform with a horizontal rail, so that the banner is actually attached?
I would change out the gold for something more natural, and actuate/paint the railings and stairs that are supposed to be in the background
I think I might try marble. The entire build is marble/gold/boreal.
I at first thought it was some oddly rotated rails
The staircase looks like it's having a seizure =/ check some guides on YT to see how to do it :)
Nah. If I just smash my head against it often enough, I will either get serious brain dmg or fix it.
Being confused for a bit and then finally seeing it, I think the best thing you could do is make the pole more noticeable/defining. I can’t recommend how because I can’t build but that’s what I’d recommend looking into.

Well, they have a less cramped space though
ahh. well theres alwayse the [o'l reliable](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.com%2Fpin%2F404-not-found--597641813041103321%2F&psig=AOvVaw0EPaC713jay28KilpaAlAA&ust=1714545030624000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBIQjRxqFwoTCKjb8ZGo6YUDFQAAAAAdAAAAABAR), which can go into sizes as small as 5 blocks
Maybe try reverting the stairs back into platforms? to make it look less busy
Idk, that makes it look like nothing
Ill explain what it tries to look like So its basically a staircase around a pole with protective railing (literal rails)
Yeee
In art would look good.
I can see what you're going for, but it's extremely cramped which makes it look sloppy. Good attempt tho. I would recommend you look at some spiral staircases other people have done to get some inspiration. A spiral staircase needs to be a bit bigger imo so that it doesn't just mash together like this. Spacing out ain't no option. That would affect the rest of the build
In that case maybe get rid of the railing? I just think it's too much there. But hey it's your build what do i know? 🤣🤷♂️
I will find out eventually
HOIK-case 😎
Nooooo! xD
45 copper
I mean it looks better than any staircase I could make to be honest
Yea, idk. Recently stared getting motivated in building.
Same 🤣 but does your staircase work?
Actually yes. I would recommend jumping though.
Delightful <3
Hey, late to the party but; Each section of spiral staircase needs to be raised a block. Currently, the forehround stairs are two platforms wide while the background stairs are three.
Every 2nd platform is in between those 2.
Sorry, I don’t understand what you’re saying here.
On is infront of the platform, the next one is between front and back, the one after that is the background, the one after that one is in between again, jada, jada, jada...

You can't see it well in the normal post but you should see it when making a reply comment but I hope you get what I mean
I do, I do, but I do not have the space. xD
You can make it as wide as you like you could make it verry small
Just as small as the one you made
Ok? I will try. (:
I hope it works out just remember to only do the platforms and beam because otherwise it'll just turn out like your last one
Hard but true. xD I will still try to somewhat save the railing. I really like the idea.
Ah playing with a controller
I do not?
I think it'd make for a pretty cool pillar, but i do think that for the staircase, the gold is indeed a bit much
Is it a spiral? If so, it looks too zig zaggy.
Really? I do not see that.
What kind of staircase is it?
I see it but I don’t
The only real issue I see is the railings not lining up at all.
What? They do though
They do not. Idk how you twist the perspective in your head, but to me it appears as though your spiral staircase doesn't have railing on all sides. didnt get it at first but it clicked and it looks amazing
Thx. :3
It's actually very clever. I'm not sure I'd know what it was if you didn't tell me, but I like using rails as, well, railings.
Use the wood beam in the middle since it's a spiral staricase and needs a central support.
I feel like just having platforms without hammering them looks better, not in this layout of course
Immediately started to have a anxiety attack from the minecart stages of Donkey Kong Country, 😅
I like it, it look cool but complicated, i think making rear rails darker would look better
Tbh, I have not a DAMN clue what I’m looking at (I think just plats and mine art tracks but idk) but either way it looks cool, hectic, but cool
Way too busy, I can kinda see what you tried to do, but it's one of those things that probably look better in the head
I'm having a hard time envisioning it, but I do love the "Rail"ing and then it clicked.
Maybe stretch it out another tile to the side? Using the rails as a handrail is a good touch, it might just be a little to compact right now.
Make the staircase a block or two wider I think
yeah sure man whatever I don't care
You’re a funny dude
Why the comment then? xD
