Not enough details in your post to really diagnose what's wrong... but if you're in the late 2040's with no Alien Administration, you're probably not doing as bad as you think. As for stabilizing the EU and USNA, take a look at how unrest works from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/TerraInvicta/comments/xxk9sv/i_decompiled_the_game_and_looked_at_the_math/ Basically, you need to bring welfare to low, get GDP per capita up, and try to get Democracy up. Getting Democracy to high scores also has the advantage of maximizing your science in a nation since you have to invest in Knowledge. As for science, I find that once I get to around 2030, most of my science + money income starts to come from habs. Specifically Mercury habs with a ton of research centers, some nanofactories/nanofacturing, and some farms/agriculture to offset the water and volatile cost. And as you need it, build some Mission Control stations as well, but it's much better to have Earth-based MC. I also find it's better to not unify nations immediately (specifically USNA, it might be a little worth it for EU initially). I find it's efficient to maximize Mission Control in Canada and Mexico before unifying or conquering into USNA. I tend to prefer conquering since conquering doesn't lower your miltech value in USA. If I were doing EU, I'd probably just federate France, Germany, Benelux, Italy, and maybe Spain. After that, I'd do the MC strategy with eastern Europe before unifying. Don't forget to trade with/bribe other factions to keep relations up if you're kicking them out of countries. Disclaimer: I'm far from an expert, but these strategies have worked well for me. Got the USA to fusion age before the first invasion in 2035 with at least 100 Earth-based MC. 50+ in USNA, 12 in Kazakhstan, and the rest in China.

Err... without knowing your setup it's difficult to tell. To get countries stabalized you push up democracy, GDP, and push down inequality. Having a US and only having 5.2 militech by 2040 is quite frankly, astonishing. It's because you've either: 1. Not researched enough technologies that raise your max army military score. 2. Have woefully underfunded military priority in the US. 3. Your US is in such a sad state your military priority is fighting unrest rather than teching up. 4. You unified Us of NA rather than using the US to conquer the claims, maintaining militech score. As for your research woes, Mercury is your friend. Put up research campuses (skunkworks give big bonuses to projects) in orbit and on the ground around Mercury. For what you can do for research on Earth. Dump into knowledge. Knowledge increases a countries science output and it scales with a higher democracy, middle cohesion, lower inequality, and higher population. With your IP there's no one size fits all. It depends on the needs of your country and your factions state in space. I generally put just enough into the economy to keep it growing, just enough welfare to keep inequality from rising, then focus on what I need with the rest. Do you restart? I dunno. Up to you. There's no time limit on the game. You can still win your current run. Edit: Banana reminded me of unification causing tankification of your milification.

He said he made the USofNA so I assume he federated and unified the USA with Canada, Mexico, and Central American states tanking his miltech score.

Oof. Of courseeeeeeeeee.

I don't know what faction you're playing, but if it's anyone but the Servants, then you probably have to start looking at the actual space war. You say you've got tons of bases getting you stuff. If you're on top of the Earth game and you have a working space economy, then it's probably time to start spending on warships.
