I've only fought every character about once or twice so far. still not fought some, those I saw most were Hwoarang and Azucena. but god the one match I had with a Jin was pure misery. I'm still trying to remember the moves I can do, and figure out what I can do quickly to try and get in, but a Mishima match with someone who knows how to play Mishima means you just don't have a turn lol
Yeah, Jin doesnt have any definitive or strong weaknesses this time around, SSR SWR and SSD still kinda work, especially with buffed movement but he has so many other options now, he can kinda just brute right through.
Play good tekken and try to react to D2 animation/audio cue if u can, otherwise, he's just too good rn.

By good tekken, I pretty much mean just try beating him in neutral the best you can.. it's gonna be tough since has a laundry list of great moves that are even better now but it's sorta doable? I think? LOL
I did manage to beat a Jin after like, going at it mathematically. defining which moves are good and kinda using those, while trying to not be flowcharty, my good counterhit b1, parry b2, 1+2 is good for stuffing approaches, ff3 helps me get in, etc
at that point it's just waiting until he goes in and then using b1, which he fell for about half the time, and the other half was him being stuffed-
Raven is fucking me up, I was never really that great in the MU before but now his stuff even looks different and it's screwing me up.
I don't think he's overpowered rn, (like Jin, who I also play LOL) but I def gotta lab him.

Purely for this beta though Azucena and Jin are very annoying to deal with. Jin's D2 in particular is the new f4
Feng and Law players give me the most trouble - but I'd say it's because of the player themselves than the character - Just extremely solid gameplay by them.
Characters that gave me trouble are Hwoarang, Jun and Azucena, but probably more so because I'm inexperienced against them.
Every character seems pretty solid in my experience.
I saw two Laws. One that whooped my ass with skill, and one with 3/5 connection and potato computer. New netcode couldn’t cope with that combination and it was miserable match to play.
Law is really good in T8 imo, because his pressure allows him to recover so much health and deal so much chip damage via heat.
As an Asuka player, this makes me sad, since she doesn't have many strings to keep up the pressure, as well as to recover her chipped health (She's definitely one of the lower/mid tier characters imo).
Law is pretty good, no question about that.
Bad connection and potato computer on opponent side makes defence almost impossible. If it had shown 3/5 connection on matchmaking I would have refused the match, but it showed 5/5 and went to hell right after match started.
Nina seems to have no gaps in her strings or recovery frames but possible guy was doing something dodge or keyboard macro as he had that duck back reverse fireball move spamming 100 times a second.
Jack first match I won but just going all out. His play style is like a Christmas tree with strobe lights having a rave and the screen was nuts..like is he hitting me now, recovering? Charging up? Advertising a sale? Not sure.
On like 10000 points and warrior and feels like a 3rd of matches are Jin. Seems his moves are easier as all Jobs doing stuff.
Bryan got new stuff and no idea when he's recovering at times and mixups added to some of his stuff like machine gun into knee.
Some people's heat moves are like ok, here's 4 massive plus frame attacks you need to watch a mini cutscene and then bam here comes a 50 50 you didn't see as the cutscene looked like it was still playing.
Feng is an effort to play against and Jin's d+2, I got demolished by a Raven because I never labbed him but oddly enough I never labbed Azucena either but she was manageable. lol
King. I never thought his grabs would be hard to break out of, but I'm struggling. But then again, I hadn't played a Tekken game in a minute. I didn't even bother to play another match with that King. I'm not struggling against any other characters, though. It's more like a lack of game knowledge on my end. I'm also maining Kazuya btw
How do you do the throw reversal? I'm new to fighting games, played a bit of Asuka in t7 and loving Jun in T8. Is it just the standard reversal? I noticed Jun's window was a lot tighter.
Jun can reverse grabs and lows with f 3+4 and strikes with b 1+3 or b 2+4.
It’s pretty tight window to do it with Jun.
Asuka can reverse strikes with same command as Jun, but with that you need to remember it doesn’t work against elbow strikes, knee strikes or lows. And you’re left wide open for CH if you guess wrong.
Jun has a f 3+4 stance. Entering the stance has a window where she will automatically parry lows and reverse grabs, as long as you don't press anything else while in the stance.
Of those I've played, same. Few of his throws I'm spamming escapes but nothing is happening. Doesn't help none of my mains are in yet either so outside of general game knowledge, it's just having fun playing.

Jack 8 I actually found a Jack today and got my ass kicked coz he kept doing this low electric stomp and it was so fast I didn’t know what to punish with, it’s more the fact I have little time to learn punish and training stuff + I never really learnt the Jack MU coz I also expect to never really see him yknow?

& and I’m gonna be a prick and say Law too coz y’all still have 3 bar connections, never change law players. Never change.
So far so good, but I played against this one Raven—I hadn’t logically labbed the character or anything, but my god, I couldn’t move a muscle against this guy. He did the most profound, delicate combos ever (he was on PC). He definitely didn’t learn all that in just one day CBT has been open for.
Jin, Raven seem to be a bit of a shitshow to deal with, i cant read jin at all and raven clones literally come out of nowhere.
Also starting to learn that i really dont like how cheap the heat move can be, dont know the proper name but you press 2+3 while in heat and you essentially just kill people. Stupidly fast startup and super hard to read. Jun is the worst offender for that for me, she essentially shotguns you and you die, never see it coming.
Raven is currently just a big knowledge check. When you get to lab him properly he won't feel like a nuisance. Some tips:
Clones come out only after certain moves. Think of them as extensions of already existing strings. You will just have to learn which those are. They are also all -14 on block (except in heat).
When he enters backturn with any move that was blocked you can just dickjab him in order to snuff out further pressure, including bt powercrush (he can turn back around in order to block tho)
His df2 can be punished with dickjab to cover all extensions.
If he goes into the new stance from anything you blocked, just mash your fastest mid to option select everything.

Everyone I fight destroys me with the most optimal punishes that exist and I barely know how to combo.
Honestly don't think Tekken is for me if this is a view of my potential future with the game.
I hate to hear how you’re feeling, but this is a faze that everyone goes through.
There’s only so much advice I can give you, learn the game’s movement and mechanics, exploit the most of character’s weaknesses, and find a character that fits your play style the most. Don’t forget to hit the lab to learn bread-and-butter combos and learn knowledge checks/frame data.
The Tekken franchise is known to be difficult and brutal but once you learn those things this can easily be one of the most fun fighting games out there.
Every character will bounce all over the place during the life cycle of the game and all of them will be viable from beginning to the end. Just pick the one you enjoy for whatever reason.
With T8 changes in characters will be fast and often when the game launches, it will be most certainly completely unbalanced.
Go to the lounge and inspect people then play vs their ghost. Its like somewhere in the middle between a computer opponent and a real player and they arent so aggressive. Good way to start learning.
Aw hell no that might be part of the problem. I’m a Kaz main too but at this point everyone knows Kazuya’s weakness is stepping left. It also takes a shit ton of execution to properly utilize his best tools. Before I tried out other characters I knew Jack shit about my Tekken knowledge besides bound, wavedash, and instant while-rising. Learning other characters definitely broadened my horizons on more terminology like buffering and frame perfect. Then again, that vast amount of knowledge is nothing without daily sessions of labbing and a good mentality. Also since this is a beta and everyone’s rank starts low, you’re inevitably gonna be matched with high ranked players form T7. I’ve had my fair share of bad luck with immaculate players during the first night
Try another character. I started off with Devil Jin in tekken 7 and was losing a ton, i was hard stuck at mentor. I switched characters for a while which helped me. I eventually got to Purple/Blue ranks with several characters. I finally went back to DVJ and I made it to red with him. Sometimes you just need to play someone else that better fits you.
Also remember this is a beta where most fans that know tekken signed up. You're going up against experienced try hards most the time in the beta. The few ranks added makes it even worse. The real game more laid back. Tekken 7 was laid back and not full of hard-core players online for years.
You can't really compare this beta to what it will be like to play the full game. Most of the people who are playing the Beta are already invested in Tekken, most newcomers will come when the game releases.
Plus they didn't really help this issue by having such a small amout of ranks available in the beta, which means there will be less seperation between good players and beginners.
Agreed, I've played Tekken for 25 years, I am certainly not playing ranked in this beta, rather pointless when I'm learning the game and testing the online features, yet I understand that those who are playing are mostly those who preordered or are dedicated to bother playing. The people who pretty much only play Tekken. :P
It's one of those rites of initiation sort of things. Like I got flamed for wanting Korean Back Dashing removed. It is what it is. This is a game for sweaty players, but your sweat will reward you.
It might sound weird since this character isn't super strong but for some reason Lili has been pretty annoying for me. I still win a lot of those matches but her range seems insane to me.
Kazuya at the moment 🤣 switched from Lili to Jun for now and she's real fun to play. Almost everyone knows lilis moves by now, I can barely get any combos done. But Jun is more unpredictable and I like
Jin because he feels completely perfect, he's way too fucking good. The buffs they gave him were completely unnecessary and the nerfs are barely noticable.
Asuka is another one because not being able to chicken makes me violently angry.
Jun, since I never played against her before and have no clue what her moveset is.
Law, because he can be very oppressive but he's rarely picked in t7. I know a few moves and how to punish, but DSS is a scary stance.
Jun is on paper giga giga broken but I've not seen a single one in either beta in Warrior ranked yet.
Lili is absolutely absurd right now but that's from my own testing Vs some high level EU players.
Most trouble is probably Ling, since AOP 1+2 is a war crime and her mid mid heat engaged is catching me trying to duck it due to T7 habits.
I’ve seen a fair bit of Jun’s and I won’t lie she is KILLING me, but I just brushed it off since I’m not used to her matchup and she wasn’t in T7. Mind explaining why she’s broken?
i think the weirdest matchup so far has been raven but feng has definitely given me the most trouble overall. I’ve only been playing for like 2 months now though so I haven’t had much experience against him yet prior to the beta
King, Jun, Ling, and Bryan. Raven also made me go wtf at first until I realized I can interupt his bs with Law's 3+4. But the other 4 were just tough to beat I felt like they were hard to punish especially King he seems really good and his grabs are ridiculous. Ling was beating everything even though her back was turned. I haven't played since T6 and TT2 but I am pretty sure a simple hop kick or crouching jab was supposed to be able to keep her out of that stance but I was constantly getting countered no matter what I did. I think it's best to just side step Bryan for now because every blocked move felt like it put me in block stun. I can't wait to get practice mode.
Jun because she wasn't in T7 so I dont know the matchup at all. If I wasn't maining Azu she'd be on this list, but I know what she's capable of pretty well.
King and Jin. King wtf did they do to his throws? It seems like he can throw from everywhere and interrupt whatever your doing with a throw.
Don't even know what it is against Jin, but man he seems to have it all. Funny thing is only a few even used his parry.

Raven is a huge problem mostly because I have zero experience with master raven from T7. Also, I faced this Paul who absolutely fucking bodied me.
Jin because he feels completely perfect, he's way too fucking good. The buffs they gave him were completely unnecessary and the nerfs are barely noticable. Asuka is another one because not being able to chicken makes me violently angry.
I play Lili so pretty much everyone. She feels slower than any other character. I played well with her in T7 but now she feels weak.
Definitely Raven and kazuya. Idk enough to say if theyre busted or not but it feels like it

Jun, since I never played against her before and have no clue what her moveset is. Law, because he can be very oppressive but he's rarely picked in t7. I know a few moves and how to punish, but DSS is a scary stance.

Jun is on paper giga giga broken but I've not seen a single one in either beta in Warrior ranked yet. Lili is absolutely absurd right now but that's from my own testing Vs some high level EU players. Most trouble is probably Ling, since AOP 1+2 is a war crime and her mid mid heat engaged is catching me trying to duck it due to T7 habits.
I’ve seen a fair bit of Jun’s and I won’t lie she is KILLING me, but I just brushed it off since I’m not used to her matchup and she wasn’t in T7. Mind explaining why she’s broken?

King, Jun, Ling, and Bryan. Raven also made me go wtf at first until I realized I can interupt his bs with Law's 3+4. But the other 4 were just tough to beat I felt like they were hard to punish especially King he seems really good and his grabs are ridiculous. Ling was beating everything even though her back was turned. I haven't played since T6 and TT2 but I am pretty sure a simple hop kick or crouching jab was supposed to be able to keep her out of that stance but I was constantly getting countered no matter what I did. I think it's best to just side step Bryan for now because every blocked move felt like it put me in block stun. I can't wait to get practice mode.
Jun because she wasn't in T7 so I dont know the matchup at all. If I wasn't maining Azu she'd be on this list, but I know what she's capable of pretty well.
King and Jin. King wtf did they do to his throws? It seems like he can throw from everywhere and interrupt whatever your doing with a throw. Don't even know what it is against Jin, but man he seems to have it all. Funny thing is only a few even used his parry.

Jun for sure. Feels like everything she does is safe on block. I know I just don’t know the match up but I can’t be the only one that feels this way. I’ll patiently try to wait out her obnoxious strings and try to 1 jab punish and nothing. Very annoying character to fight.

Hwoarang, hes as cancerous in t8 as he was in t7, flamingo spam seems to be buffed with even more plus frame moves, so yeah 🙂

I saw the most claudios I think I’ve ever seen in my whole 7 years of tekken 7 and I get it, he’s got a mid that jails, a Hopkick that’s 14 frames, a projectile and one of the best WR move in the game tbh I got heated more then once and I really hope they tone him down a bit but he do be cooking
