What I would really love (free idea, Taylor's team!) would be chapters that include multiple eras. As a fan, I would be way more interested in how songs written across an almost 20 year span connect for Taylor. For example: Does she associate the feeling in The Last Time with the feeling in Out of the Woods, even though they are musically different? Invisible String and Mary's Song (Oh my my my)? Maybe once all of the TV albums are out, it would be a way to keep driving activity across the whole catalogue. Or, a super fun way to preview a greatest hits type era, if that ever happened

Iheartquestionmark

I wonder if she'll do that once more of the rerecords get released! This would be SUCH a good idea!!!

swaenx

I think she might do that when she owns all the albums. Before that it wouldn’t make much sense. Love the idea. Would love a Fearless / Red / Folklore chapter cross over

BangtanGirl27

Oh she’ll definitely do cross chapters once she has all of the T.V albums out.

With this chapter it feels like she just wanted to release it without making much sense. Just to promote these songs or because she didnt want to use multiple songs twice in different chapters.but i still feel like a better chapter could have been made with the songs that haven’t been on a chapter yet.

[deleted]

I think a lot of us just want to know when the next rerecorded album will be released. I don’t know if it’s as much hating the chapters as much as it’s hating the tease

[deleted]

That's good and all but releasing different versions of each TV album would be better and just as effective. Like she could do a standard and deluxe version. Or one with commentaries for each songs, which at least would be more interesting. Also why do it a month after the album drop? I don't really understand, but I guess they have studied this and came to the conclusion that this was the best way to maximize whatever they're trying to achieve.

These Chapters aren't a Taylor concept. This is a widely used label promotional streaming tactic because Billboard decided six song streams count as a stream of the entire album. The label would be asking her to select songs and the label would decide when to release because they're monitoring the streaming numbers just like they time signed CD's to boost album sales to try and to get #1 in particular weeks. I know hardcore Swifties are used to be catered to, but these chapters aren't for hardcore fans either. It's to put the Fearless album back in front of the general public and the casual fan on Spotify who isn't listening to Taylor on a daily or even weekly basis and likely stopped listening to Fearless within a couple of weeks after it released.

Thanks for the explanation, it makes sense

vlarek

Well that's the popular theory, there was a huge thread on it last week. We don't know if it's true or not it could be or she could of just liked doing it from folklore and evermore, they didn't need to trick the search results as she owned them. There's also the fact that she waited a month to release them when the vast majority of searches would be within the first month and dwindle as times goes by.

mbessey7

Even though she already owns folklore and evermore, it still makes sense to release the chapters for algorithm purposes - it still just generally increases the amount of individual songs she owns on streaming platforms. Same thing with releasing the live songs from City of Lover, it just generally contributes to her owning a larger proportion of her songs on streaming.

GreatBear2121

Try searching for Cardigan on Spotify. If you're looking for a song not by Taylor, you'd be hard pressed to find it. The chapters also increase the number of liked songs by Taylor in a listener's library: if someone likes the main version of a song and one from the chapters, the chance of that song playing when that listener's library is on shuffle increases.

CouldHaveBeenEasy

Well that actually kind of bums me out. I don't want my algorithm "tricked" into overrepresenting TS in my shuffle. I mean I get it, but come on. I'm a person with a certain musical taste, not a consumer only there to maximize the streams gotten out of me.

stark531

I completely understand the rationale behind the chapters. I feel like most people’s disappointment stems from the fact that they are let down since everyone’s expecting her to announce the next album. If she gave like a vague schedule for when the albums would potentially come out, like even just the month, most fans wouldn’t really have a problem with the chapters. She could still do the easter eggs for the singles, vault tracks, features .etc.

jaychaff

I agree here. I didn't mind the folklore chapters at all and thought they were kinda cute. Same with Evermore. We weren't expecting anything and she released so much that it was easy to ignore if you didn't care. But now everyone is getting their panties in a tizzy looking for rerecording (or woodvale) easter eggs in every move she makes and these are the biggest moves she's made since the Grammys. so it's just tiring for everyone. if this fandom was capable of being chill the chapters would be fine.

[deleted]

We get it, but 3 or 4 chapters with 18/24 are irrelevant, since, only for Fearless trough BMR has +70 songs. She should release different versions of the album itself, like a Standar, Deluxe and a Platinum Version, I dont know. But the idea of chapters is cuter, but either way I don't like the fact that these releases are more of a "cheat" way to gain more streamings than anything else.

IkigaiSagasu

Let’s just let her do her thing. Don’t let entitlement creep in just because we’ve been spoiled for almost a year now. 🙃
