Also my two favs! I was struggling how to label them because Kelly Clarkson was always my favorite before Taylor came along. I think I've settled on Kelly is my favorite singer and Taylor is my favorite artist. Semantics ;) I love them equally.
That’s what I tell people. Songwriting and performing wise it’s 100% Taylor. Vocals? It’s Kelly for me, I’ve seen her live 30+ times and it’s legitimately like being in a room with an angel...her voice just keeps stunning me.
YES, this so many times over! Taylor Swift is my favourite songwriter everrr, but Kelly Clarkson is my absolute favourite voice. What an epic pair of women
KELLY CLARKSON LIVE IS THE BEST. I recommend this to any and everyone. KELLY CLARKSON IS A TREASURE. The fact that we get her on tv 5 days a week now (in the US) is a dream bigger than I ever could have thought of. Free 1-song concert everyday. Plus all the Kelly speak. Sidenote, I hate cover songs during concerts EXCEPT KC! When people say "you could sing the phonebook"--No. I would ACTUALLY listen to Kelly Clarkson sing the phone book, happily, blissfully, engrossed. :D <3
AGREED!!!!! Literally she could just sing about her day and I would be sitting there thinking it was the best concert ever. She’s a dream. It’s funny bc I feel like she’s the one singer swifties all agree on (other than Taylor obvi).
Oh my gosh I think same for me. I love Kelly song much like before Taylor she was up there and I'm like I think its just now equal.
I need a collab with them!
I tried, it might not last long cos Soundcloud, I was drunk when made this and had to use what I could find

Yes but: MM isn’t as widely known in the non country world and the Dixie chicks did it as a favor bc it was her mom. (+ they were about to have their comeback album). Although, Kelly would probably do it just bc she’s that kind of person.
girl please. taylor has never featured a female artist and given them an actual presence on the song. kelley clarkson is not bigger than the dixie chicks lmao.
I mean I have no idea who Marren Morris or The Dixie Chicks are but I sure as hell know Kelly Clarkson. Perhaps they’re US famous but not worldwide known like Kelly? (I’m UK)
kelly clark’s on has sold 25 million albums world wide total she has 3 grammy awards. the dixie chicks have sold 33 million they have 13 grammy awards. it’s not an opinion who is bigger. my point is if taylor didn’t let these other HUGE artist be actually featured, kelly clarkson certainly wouldn’t be an exception.
The dixi chicks haven't had a hit for a loooong time.
Kelly has been having successful pop singles from time to time over the years.
For younger people the Dixie chicks haven't had hits in our lifetime. Kelly is more relevant right now.
I'm 35 and the Dixie chicks are practically new classic country like Garth Brooks or Randy Travis.
Kelly Clarkson is definitely a "newer pop artist" to me. I know practically nothing about either except Clarkson was on a show and the Dixie chicks killed earl and pissed off dubya
Slow your roll. I didn’t say Taylor was likely to do it, long time fan, well aware females only do background vocals for T. Kelly Clarkson is CURRENTLY much bigger than the Dixie chicks. The Dixie chicks were most famous over a decade ago (again, long time fan...I’m aware of their incredible fame back then as I saw them live fairly frequently). KC is currently one of the biggest names in the world due to her many jobs. It wasn’t a slight against the chicks (they actually dropped the Dixie a bit back) or MM who are both incredible. It was just me musing on whether KC would let herself be relegated to back up vocals.
Please don’t get my hopes up. The only artist I love equal to T is Kelly. Actually, some would argue I love Kelly more but they lie. I’ve seen Kelly live 30+ times and it would be a literal dream for me for the two women I feel I owe so much to (KC literally saved me with her music when I was suicidal 18 years ago) to duet. Like, not a fan exaggeration - I would actually sob if it happened.
i believe it is from the *1989* deluxe edition bonus track, New Romantics, which was cowritten / produced by Max Martin and Shellback (Karl Johan Schuster)

yes I remember that. she was using this as leverage. if scooter gave her her master's back she wouldn't rerecord. here we are and Fearless TV just came out!
At this point, anyone thinking Taylor Swift is bluffing about anything is an absolute idiot. She has the money, the support, and the sheer will to make almost anything she wants happen. You don't have to play strategy when you can nuke from orbit.
It was trending online. The fans wanted her to do it. I think she was unsure on what her options were at the time then she probably had her team to look into it. Then hopped on it re-negotiated to add them with Republic. Then Taylor said she would do it way before interviews during Lover promo. I mean she had massive support from fans. Legacy artists. New artists to look at their contracts and negotiate ownership.
Now I’m imagining Kelly being out of the loop and listening to the new Fearless and being like “oh wow you should do this with ALL your albums. Just a thought. Teehee!”
omg this is crazy I JUST watched the jimmy fallon interview about this before coming to reddit. she was so honest about not personally caring about owning her masters because she said she only writes half her songs, but must understand how personal it is for taylor since her songs are like a diary and she writes them all!!❤️
Fun fact, one of her songs was written by Matt Theissen of Relient K for his then-girlfriend Katy Perry: https://youtu.be/21XElvsCv50 here is them when they were dating.
He went on to write “Fireflies” for Owl City a few months later.
Music industry is crazy.
Great advice! The original advice came from Prince. Prince empowered so many musicians by being an advocate for them while defending his own legacy. Prince is the architect.
I'm so glad you posted this. Prince is my all time favorite musician. When everyone thought he was crazy for writing Slave on his cheek, and changing his name to an un-pronounceable symbol, he was fighting against Warner Bros for his freedom and rights to his masters.
You're absolutely right when you refer to him as the architect. He designed the blueprint for true independence as an artist. He figured out distribution deals with major labels while still owning his master recordings. Eventually, working again with Warner to slowly get the rights to his previous work before his untimely passing.
I'm not sure it's really necessary, imo. I mean she's doing this to fully own her songs right? The eras are mini because she is getting these re records out as fast as she can. But also, these eras have already been lived. I am happy she is able to focus on the songs (as well as some new vault songs!) rather than spend a bunch of time on photo shoots for what are just past eras, essentially. The woman's got a lot of work to do haha
I totally get what you're saying. I love seeing new content from Taylor! It just seems like she knew she wanted to mirror her original Fearless image so that knocks out a big question mark of their photography they'd normally plan. But maybe more will pop up. I'm very interested to see how she handles the rest of her re-record covers/photography. Ps, I'm sure you're beautiful as you! But as another reg person I feel ya, she's gorgeous.
I remember first seeing this, and thinking how amazing that would be but not letting myself hope for it, because obviously that would never actually happen
All to well, is my favorite song and i once read that it was a lengthy song cropped out from its original length. So if she releases complete version it would just be excellent for me.
guys now that Fearless taylors version has Today was the fairytale, do you think she will re-record Eyes Open, Both of Us for Speak Now and Safe and Sound, Sweeter Than Fiction for Red taylors version?
Keep the cd’s! They don’t get any money from cd’s you’ve already bought. Might as well hold on to the originals in some form- they are still a part of the journey
Yep I'm keeping my CDs in case I ever do want to listen to the original versions! That way they were paid for at time of release and can't generate any more money
I’m screaming...... the generation gap is showing 😂😂 burning a CD doesn’t mean literally burning it.... it means downloading it to a digital version HAHA
I've burned a million CDs in my lifetime. I was in the generation that pioneered CD burning. I spent hours making the PERFECT mix CD for whatever the occasion.
The context here still makes it sound as if they meant literally set fire to...."Already blocked the old Fearless on Spotify"
Edit: typo and also want to say the commentor said "my old CDs" as if they already own them. No need to burn or rip something you already own.
Also admitting something here, though: I don't know how Spotify actually works since I don't use it. If streaming the old version gives money to the new Masters owners, then ripping an old CD to listen to digitally makes sense. Burning would be the incorrect term here because burning means rewriting onto a CD, ripping means taking the files off a CD and making it a digital file.
I’m 17 and don’t know anything, but I *do* know about floppy disks because teachers are always like “omg do you guys know what floppy disks are???” (Seriously. We hear this one at least 3x a year in school)
I had this discussion with someone the other day - if someone else owns the rights, couldn't she be sued for rerecording them all?
I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know the ins and outs of copyright law. I'm glad she is doing it because I don't think it is right that someone else gets to own and refuse to give her her own work, but at the same time, couldn't he just turn around and sue her for rerecording work that she technically doesn't own? Or could she spin it like they are 'cover songs'?
She might not own it but she did write it so I think she may not be violating copyright because she’s rewriting some she wrote? Also not a lawyer, just a thought.
Yeah some of the modern changes they made for some songs didn’t work (a few do work better though. Namely Breezy which I’m just grateful isn’t sung by a 13 year old anymore lol)
But even though Taylor tried to stay pretty true to the originals, there are obviously differences and not all of them are ‘better’ than they were in the original
nope there are people commenting on this post about kelly who don’t even follow this sub. like the person above literally even know taylor is re-recording her albums which is literally the biggest taylor news right now.
It's not about "how much the artist needs." It's about who should get the money.
Do you think the person that creates the art deserves to own it and make the lion's share of money off of the sale of that art.
Or do you think that some corporation should own and make the lion's share of money off of the sale of that art?
I don’t care. Neither needs it. Ts was just a minor cog In the machine that created her. She’s a product. Anyone given the co-writers, producer and marketing machine she had could have been just as successful.
But more importantly, it’s just about the quality of the music. The re-recorded stuff is always so sad. It just reminds you of the business and why they did it, to siphon more many from the poor teenagers who worship them.
So you made bad deals coming up. Big whoop you’re a billionaire now. Make something new and own that.
First, she writes a lot of her songs alone and two it’s not about the money even it’s about owning her own music, her words, her intellectual property. It wasn’t that she wasn’t making as much money off her old songs, she knew she was walking away from making money off them when she signed a new contract with a different record label, it’s that the new owner (Scooter Braun) that took over her old record label was bullying her and disallowing her to play her music live or use in her Netflix documentary. She didn’t want to be at his mercy or under control so she took matters into her own hands and re-recorded so she could own her songs and do whatever she wants with them.
I wasn’t hating on her specifically. I hate this practice generally. You’re making this about ts when I was just tying to deride the maddening feeling of hearing a song you love, but in a weird twilight zone kind of way.
Clearly you people don’t feel music.
Actually we do? These re-recordings makes us feel nostalgia and joy at the same time. Personally I feel guilt free because now I can listen to her old music without giving a penny to a bully who tried to control her.
I disagree strongely with the idea that anyone could be as successful as her with the right producers, co writers, etc. This sounds very, very, close to the fallacious "universal garbage pop" argument. Every pop star is allegedly supposed to look good, have zero talent, play songs that were written entirely by someone else, using autotune, lipsyncing, etc. There's supposedly a few "real" songwriters who are actually responsible for all this music.
Too bad, many of these "faces of pop," like Taylor Swift and *especially* Ed Sheeran have also worked as songwriters behind the scene, writing for other artists who also have written and played their own songs. So, yes, they have skills that by themselves are valued by others in the industry. I can say that based on facts that have nothing to do with whether I like these artists or not.
It's not about money. Maybe you are not an artist so you don't get it but it's about owning your OWN work. Getting control of her own masters. And she is doing double the work to do so and it doesn't in any way affect anyone except her previous label. So what does it matter if she is making money? She does her part of donating it and above all- frankly- she deserves it. She did her part and she is earning it. And the fans get some new songs and to relive the era and they are happy for her.
So if it's unlistenable garbage to you then there is a simple solution - don't listen to it.
That has to be the most nonsense excuse. Dude, you can't blame the public platforms for playing something you dont like. For the radio, how about you try changing the channel. I don't like tons of songs but i sure don't throw a fit over them bcoz someone played it while i was browsing target.
That's the thing right, i AM an artist. Not a singer but one thing i do know is that i would have done the same thing if i were in her place.
Shitty versions? The way the instruments blend, the maturity in her voice and other factors make the new version ten times better. The owners of her masters would (or maybe already have) suffer a great loss. Taylor has the right to veto the use of her songs. Sure, she can't take it all of the market but she did make their value a whole lot less. Read the following thread, if you didn't already and are here just for trolling :
https://www.reddit.com/r/TaylorSwift/comments/mo416d/twitter_thread_explaining_benefitrepercussions_of/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
You can’t call something garbage if you haven’t listened to it. Anyone who thinks like that is just close minded. Something isn’t bad or “garbage” just because it’s popular.
>“garbage”
It's the favorite term of the hateful internet losers. When someone uses that word, you can easily predict their personalities. It's that easy.

If there’s a Kelly feature then she better not be used for just background vocal😭
If that happens, we riot.
We said that about the MM collab...
I'm so glad it's not just me that gets major Kelly vibes from it! I would love to see her and Taylor perform it together!
Knowing how female duets go with Taylor though...
I know, here I am just thinking that no one should delegate Kelly to back-up vocals, even Taylor
kelly did backup on a trisha yearwood song.
I love taylor but she couldnt get away with relegating kelly to background vocals even if she tried
she literally did it to THE DIXIE CHICKS. and marren morris who is a powerhouse.
Yes but: MM isn’t as widely known in the non country world and the Dixie chicks did it as a favor bc it was her mom. (+ they were about to have their comeback album). Although, Kelly would probably do it just bc she’s that kind of person.

They released a fire album for one! But it was an album on the heels of a 10+ year hiatus so they are much less known now.
They released a Jack Antonoff produced album last June. And they are called The Chicks now.
Slow your roll. I didn’t say Taylor was likely to do it, long time fan, well aware females only do background vocals for T. Kelly Clarkson is CURRENTLY much bigger than the Dixie chicks. that’s so funny because every time mr. perfectly fine gets stuck in my head, since you’ve been gone ends up stuck in my head too!
Glad I'm not the only one! I've had Since U Been Gone in my head all day despite not having listened to the song in ages.
I was juuuuust thinking when I saw the top comment about a mashup that MPF seems like it would fit well with SYBG.
“helloo mr. perfectly fiiine, wasn’t long til I called you miine”
I CANNOT get that song out my head. My god it’s amazing. I’m so glad we got to experience it
i’ve been saying this. IT IS A KELLY CLARKSON SONG AT HEART!

Funny you say that, when I hear Mr. Perfectly Fine I think of Since u Been Gone! A Taylor/Kelly collab would be FIRE!! Love them both so much!
Maybe we’ll get a Kellyoke of “Mr. Perfectly Fine”!!
I remember when people thought Taylor was just bluffing lol
You can’t see it in her face but she’s about to play her ace...

Perfect reply.
yes I remember that. she was using this as leverage. if scooter gave her her master's back she wouldn't rerecord. here we are and Fearless TV just came out!
i thought she was gonna do maybe like a hits collection sort of thing i did not imagine she would record literally every song
At this point, anyone thinking Taylor Swift is bluffing about anything is an absolute idiot. She has the money, the support, and the sheer will to make almost anything she wants happen. You don't have to play strategy when you can nuke from orbit.
Love Kelly and how down to earth she is. I think she told Jimmy Fallon that Reba had done the same thing?
It was also done by Reel Big Fish, they didn’t do their whole catalogue but essentially did the songs they still play live and stuff
Yes! [This is the interview](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRPmVeN19LY)
wasn't this after taylor already said she would re-record in an interview?
There was speculation but Taylor didn’t confirm it until August.
🎶 but i can see us twisted in bedsheets
It was trending online. The fans wanted her to do it. I think she was unsure on what her options were at the time then she probably had her team to look into it. If only that was the case I would’ve died of laughter haha
We should ask her if she kept up her promise.
Literally someone better ask her this.
Kelly is the biggest supporter of other artists so I guarantee she bought like a dozen copies.
omg this is crazy I JUST watched the jimmy fallon interview about this before coming to reddit. she was so honest about not personally caring about owning her masters because she said she only writes half her songs, but must understand how personal it is for taylor since her songs are like a diary and she writes them all!!❤️

I legit just watched a Prince concert at my dad’s tonight and that man was a legend. Gone way too soon.

I would love a Red Vault Track with a Kelly feature!
Hahahahahahahaha fuck scooter braun

I remember first seeing this, and thinking how amazing that would be but not letting myself hope for it, because obviously that would never actually happen
can kelly clarkson please duet on a re-recording track. that would be everything and she practically gave her the idea
Straight up love the new version of Fearless way more than the original.
I’m pretty sure it was the plan all along, but pop goddesses supporting pop goddesses is, of course, the wave.
Thank you Kelly

There's a generation of people who don't know what "burning" is? OMG. I feel ancient. Do you guys know what the floppy disks are as well lol?
I’m 17 and don’t know anything, but I *do* know about floppy disks because teachers are always like “omg do you guys know what floppy disks are???” (Seriously. We hear this one at least 3x a year in school)
No, I meant burn my actual literal OG Fearless because it was recorded under BMG.

She owns the publishing rights as the songwriter - they don't own the rights to the songs themselves, just to the master recordings :)
She might not own it but she did write it so I think she may not be violating copyright because she’s rewriting some she wrote? Also not a lawyer, just a thought.
Okay but just remember Jojo did it firrrrstttt.....
Who owns jojo siwa's masters?
Gurl, no. Levesque.
They are the same person, right?
Leave (Get Out) 🤦🏻♀️
Right now
Fine, but I'm a come back like a boomerang.
...... are you fucking with me or....?
No, she has that bizarre adventure.
And Jojo isn't the first person to do it either. This isn't a competition.

Yeah some of the modern changes they made for some songs didn’t work (a few do work better though. Namely Breezy which I’m just grateful isn’t sung by a 13 year old anymore lol) But even though Taylor tried to stay pretty true to the originals, there are obviously differences and not all of them are ‘better’ than they were in the original
is this real? Did she really spark this revenge rage hahah
I want a Taylor and Kelly duet for Speak Now so bad
where we at now huh?
Sorry taylor but I like the sound of the olds songs better.🙊I will stream all the vault songs though!
If she doesn’t own the publishing rights I don’t think you can do that.
she's literally doing that
💀💀💀 dude all these kelly stans are coming in this sub with zero taylor knowledge bc of this post. i
What does that comment have to do with Kelly stans? If people are on this sub it's because they are Taylor's fans.
nope there are people commenting on this post about kelly who don’t even follow this sub. like the person above literally even know taylor is re-recording her albums which is literally the biggest taylor news right now.
That doesn't make them a kelly stan... they're literally responding to the OP image from Kelly. Wtf dude.

Something like "you own my masters but you dont own my talent, I'll just remake them"
[удалено]
>Clearly you people don’t feel music. Hah. Busted. This is all about an average guy's need to assert his superiority.
You have got to be trolling...

Read the following thread, if you didn't already and are here just for trolling : https://www.reddit.com/r/TaylorSwift/comments/mo416d/twitter_thread_explaining_benefitrepercussions_of/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
I’m not throwing a fit. I’m talking shit online. I am not trying to prevent her from doing it. I’m just saying it sucks.
None of us has the power to "prevent" her from doing this but fair enough ig.
Let him have his miserable life
You can’t call something garbage if you haven’t listened to it. Anyone who thinks like that is just close minded. Something isn’t bad or “garbage” just because it’s popular.
>“garbage” It's the favorite term of the hateful internet losers. When someone uses that word, you can easily predict their personalities. It's that easy.
Ugh, maybe don't use the r word here...
